    Swedish Cardamom Rolls.

Built next to the Saffy's Restaurant is a small, unassuming café selling uncommon pastries and delightful coffee. Saffy's is a Middle Eastern Restaurant with with a very healthy regular clientele. Immediately to the left of it is this charming café. The serve the typical varieties of espressos, cappuccinos and other coffee drinks both hot and cold. I found their espresso to be very smooth with only the faint bitterness that I enjoy in things such as dark chocolate. I ogled the baked goods for a while: chocolate chip cookies, biscuits and muffins before order a potato and curry boureka. Bourekas are a flaky pastry (filo/puff pastry) with a filling that are then topped, typically, with either sesame or poppy seeds. They are popular within Sephardic Jewish and Israeli cuisine. With the potato curry filling, it was much like eating a samosa with an extremely flaky, soft exterior. You could definitely down a couple of these in a sitting (they also offer feta/spinach fillings). And then there's the Swedish Caradamom Rolls: holy moly are these things delicious. Soft, tender pastry with just the right level of sweetness. I am very happy to have this place in my neighborhood. Recommend.

The Arabic breakfast is FANTASTIC! Best meal I've had in a while. A total delight. Try it!

This is one of my favorite lunch places in LA. Another fantastic meal. I wish I could try breakfast items but I am obsessed with the pita sandwiches. So damn good. Had the chicken today and the gem salad. Excellent. Always prepared with such care, always delicious. I didn't love the roast on the cold brew, bit too bitter for me but I don't care. I enjoy the food so much. Lovely service. The patio is so pleasant. If I lived in the neighborhood I would be there weekly. I am determined to try the Arabic breakfast next trip.

Food is really good and unexpectedly coffee and tea are great as well. I appreciate that the food is very light. But still carry enough aroma and spices that compliments the lightness of it. If that makes sense. Just like the tea - it's light, not so sweet. But the fragrance and the subtle sweetness is perfect. I see many reviews giving one star due to service. The service was good. I appreciated the lady who took our order. She was direct and told us what to expect in how to retrieve our order properly. The waiter who brought us our to-go food was friendly.

potato curry bourekas and black tea

I took a walk over here from Kaiser Sunset. It was a nice quick walk. I ordered the Arabic Breakfast so I could try the Shakshuka and have a little food left over for later. I also had the black tea and potato curry bourekas. Everything was really good! The shakshuka was just the right portion and very flavorful. You can either dip the challah bread in it, or spread the clotted cream and honey on the bread and it was so tasty. I would love to come back and enjoy my meal and sit outside. I would definitely recommend it checking this place out. The Arabic breakfast includes: shakshuka, chopped salad, marinated olives, clotted cream with wildflower honey, toasted challah! So yummy!

I'm still thinking about that pita sandwich that led me to Saffy's Coffee & Tea recently which is next door to the mothership, Saffy's. Smokey, fatty beef and lamb brisket chopped up inside a pita with tahini, zhoug and amba is much deliciousness in my tummy. Like anything from the Saffy/Bavel/Bestia restaurant group, it's tasty but pricey. At $21, you figure you'd get a bit more but that's just how they work leaving you to want to order another for an arm and leg. But overall, very good pita sandwich. On another occasion, when this brunch spot first opened up, we took a challah bread ($16) and some whole wheat chocolate cookies with red walnuts ($4) to go. Pretty good but like I mentioned, you'll exchange your arm and leg for small portions. There's open seating at their covered sidewalk patio. It's self serve here. So you'll have to grab your own utensils and napkins. They cool thing is that they have sparkling water on tap. Service here could use some improvement. I noticed the tables had sauce stains and crumbs and weren't cleaned off.

Loved this spot! We came for brunch. Got the arabic breakfast and the spinach feta boreka. My favorite was the saffron oolong arnold palmer - SO flavorful. Next time will come back to check other items! Cute spot with nice outdoor seating on weekends and the interior is done well.

The Arabic breakfast is soooooo yummmmmmy! If you love a savory breakfast then you will love this dish. Everything was packed with so much flavor and the thick challah was perfect for dipping into the shakshuka. The salad was refreshing and the clotted cream with honey satisfied my sweet tooth. It felt like a very balanced breakfast that is shareable with someone if you get another small item. Service was quick, we sat outdoors and there was a lot of seating!

    Shashukha and that dreamy challah
    Tami N.

One item that has continually remained on my mind since my visit to Saffy's is their challah bread. The bread thought even triumphs over my personal trauma and that says a lot as an adult with innate emo tendencies. The perfect conduit to the challah is their delicious and flavorful shashukha in a great breakfast portion size as well as their honey butter that is part of their equally tasty and wide variety of their Arabic breakfast. Suffice to say, go brave the East Hollywood parking situation (I found a lovely spot right behind the infamous blue Scientology building) and do anything to try their fluffy challah. The Spritz was also light and a good way to start your breakfast per my personal recommendation.

    Chicken pita
    Paula T.

Bavel/Saffy's is by far some of the best middle Eastern restaurants in LA. The chicken pita at Saffy's was absolutely delicious. If you've ever been to Miznon at the Palazzo in Las Vegas, this chicken sandwich pita is right up there with theirs. I like how they chopped up the seasoned chicken, added a crunchy slaw with a mix of sauces in a pillowy pita bread. My only suggestion is to go a little bit white on the sauce since the chicken is already seasoned and it can get a little salty towards the bottom of the bread.

Arabic Breakfast plus potato curry bourekas and portuguese

I was craving for shakshuka for a while so I did some research to find one of the best shakshukas in LA. I finally chose Saffy's Coffee & Tea and it didn't disappoint! OMFG Arabic breakfast was to die for. Each dish was flavorful and spectacular. Salad was extremely refreshing. Poached eggs on shakshuka were perfectly cooked and well seasoned. Clotted cream with honey was scrumptious and went very well with challah bread. Finished my meal with potato curry bourekas and portuguese custard tart was perfect ending for my brunch. Only downside was parking since I had to drive around the place for 15-20 minutes to find a parking spot. Forgot to mention about cappuccino and matcha tea here! Both were great as well :)

Saffy's is the sister restaurant to Arts District stalwarts Bavel and Bestia. Like Bavel, it serves Middle Eastern cuisine and has a wood-burning oven. Coffee and Tea is their adjacent coffee spot which opens daily at 8 am and serves breakfast/brunch from 9 am Wed-Sun. Finding parking was relatively easy on a weekday morning, but surely would be much more difficult in the evenings and all-day on weekends. This is a residential area filled with apartment buildings. Saffy's building is beautiful and retro. Saffy's offers 5 breakfast items and 4 lunch items, plus a few pastries (sweet and savory) and breads. It's a fast-casual place where you order and pay at the counter and your food is brought to your table. All seating is in their outdoor patio, with a few high-top chairs inside. I went with their most substantial breakfast item, the Arabic Breakfast, which includes their shakshuka, chopped salad, marinated olives, clotted cream with honey, and challah bread. I also ordered a herb lemonade and a boysenberry cheese danish. Everything was delish. The hot dishes are prepared in the restaurant's kitchen, and you are allowed to use the restrooms in the restaurant.

Based on my memories, this LA location keeps it consistent with a similar taste and texture as the NY location. 3.5/5 Chocolate Chip Walnut: This cookie was tall and slightly undercooked in the middle. The middle was a bit on the squishy side, and crunchy on the outside. Due to the undercooked quality, it's not a cookie I'd get regularly, though I am a big chocolate chip cookie fan. 5/5 Rocky Road: This was delicious. I'm not usually a marshmallow fan, but the addition of this ingredient formed a nice chewy consistency that I expect from a cookie. Chocolatey tidbits were well melted into the cookie texture and produced some fudgey notes. The cookie sizes are large and potentially shareable, and feel like an every once in awhile treat.

I got a sausage bbang, a chocopie, and a dalgona latte. The sausage bbang was soggy on the bottom and honestly tasted like it was from the day before. The chocopie barely had any filling, just a thin layer of marshmallow and jam. It honestly felt like they used most of the marshmallow for their Dubai choco cookie because it's probably more profitable, instead of properly filling the chocopie. If that's the case, it's better not to sell it at all than serve something like that. The dalgona latte was also disappointing. With ice, the drink only filled to the bottom third line of the cup marking. Clearly, they skimped on the milk. There was also a weird moment when I paid.
