Very disappointed with our experience at Doug and Lynda's Ski Shop. We purchased new snowboard gear, based on their recommendation, that broke on the first day on the mountain under normal use. When we returned, the shop refused to stand behind the product, blamed the rider, and offered no meaningful resolution--ultimately telling us to take our business elsewhere. Poor product quality and unacceptable customer service. We would not recommend this shop and will not be returning. read more

I went in the store out of curiosity. I grew up in the PNW and grew up skiing most of my life. With no mountains in Texas the store intrigued me. I was blown away by the inventory they carry here. I think you would have a very hard time, not finding what you're looking for here. They have everything that you would need for skiing or snowboarding, including jackets, pants, boots, skis, bindings, goggles, and anything else you can imagine. Huge variety and they also had a nugs display in the back. If you think of a company that makes winter clothes I am sure they will have it from Columbia, Patagonia, north, face and many more. I had an excellent experience at Doug & Lynda's Ski Shop! First, being a total newbie to winter sports, I had done some preliminary research on what I needed for my first snowboarding trip, but I needed some more direction with picking out the right gear. Having been in retail management for 20 years, I really appreciate people who are passionate, knowledgeable and focused on matching customers to the right products. The team here checked off all the boxes and got me set up with everything I needed for my trip. From the moment I walked in, I was really blown away by the extensive assortment of product. There is something for everyone and at a variety of price points. Before I elaborate on my experience, I want to mention that I think the prices are spot on. There are different ranges of gear and you go with what level of durability is needed. I was super-happy with everything I purchased...I got everything from base layers, socks to a ski bib and jacket and it was perfect for my trip. I definitely got my money's worth and feel really good about the purchase I made at Doug and Lynda's. The employees definitely know their product and I felt I was steered in the right direction based on my needs. I will definitely be back to Doug and Lynda's next ski season. I had had an absolute blast on my vacation and felt like everything I purchased exceeded my expectations in performance as well as keeping me warm and dry. I've lived in this area for 5 years and this place never seems to be open. Obviously, it's seasonal, but I just never saw anyone in it. I also wondered why there would be a ski shop in the North Dallas area, but you never know when it might be useful. Finally, the day came when I was going on a ski trip in Colorado and I needed some proper ski goggles. I took a chance and came here hoping it was open and it was. I came in and was helped immediately (I think it was Doug that helped me). He was great and showed me what I wanted and was a great help. I got some goggles and was very pleased with them. The shop had a ton of gear and supplies. If I ever need more ski gear, this is the place to go. read more

I have long loved going to this shop for over a decade and have consistently raved about the products, the service and the hospitality. Unfortunately, today they have lost any and all further respect, recommendations, and accolades for being a landmark in downtown McKinney. My son and I had parked in their private parking lot that is right next to Hugs Cafe. I am a small business owner and had donated a decor item to the cafe for an event. Today I was parking very VERY quickly (as I had both my teenage son and my toddler son in the vehicle) to run into Hugs and grab the donations. Afterwards we were going to go look around at Doug and Linda's ski shop but that quickly changed. I was loading up the items in my SUV and was approached by a gentleman asking if I was about to leave the parking space because the lot is private- he did NOT ask if I was going to perhaps shop in the ski store at all-- which might be the better approach. I explained to him that I was picking up a donation at Hugs Cafe and I'd be right back (I purchased drinks and cookies to support the cafe). The gentleman couldn't have cared less and made me move immediately. I get it, people take advantage all of the time but I can assure that I have paid for the parking lot for years and I was only trying to support their neighboring business- Hugs Cafe, Non profit organization. His approach is completely uncalled for as he told me to go talk to the owners. - just be kind. I would have reacted completely differently if I was approached in a different manner. This is also my first Yelp review- EVER. Thank you Hugs Cafe for your hospitality- offering to carry everything I had donated, and my drinks. My son experienced a very uncomfortable shopping experience with this store and from the reviews I can see this is an on going issue. I told my son to go there with his friend because they were going on a ski trip and I had gone here before myself and spent well North of $3k which is easy to do in this store as it's a bit pricey. None the less my son and his friend both went to this store and my son was followed around the store by a older short haired woman and questioned the entire time he was there. He was intending to purchase some things but felt very uncomfortable about doing so because he believed he was being profiled as trying to steal something. Now my son is a white male with long hair and his friend has long hair as well but not as long as my son along with having a scraggly beard which really shouldn't matter but clearly he was being profiled. Well he found a hat he liked and they only had one left so he decided to walk around with it while looking around for other things. When he decided he was too uncomfortable to shop there he put the hat back on the rack and when he walked up to the register with his friend he was questioned about the hat and the lady asked him to show her where the hat was and he politely showed her where it was but clearly this was her suspecting him of stealing which lead the store clerk to decided to keep his friends credit card without him realizing it so she could check her inventory first before she gave it back and when his friend realized he didn't get his card back he called and spoke to the same clerk there and she advised she had the card but questioned him on a gator being missing which is something that goes on your sunglasses and he advised that he knew nothing of this and nor did my son. Now my son did look at these items but didn't take any of it. Given the fact that she followed him around the entire store she should know this. None the less his friend went back to the store to get his card and will never be back here again. I will make sure the word gets out that this store is ridiculous and not very people friendly. If you have that big of a problem with folks stealing your items maybe you should invest in security tags rather than profile your customers. Myself, friends and family will never shop here again. Learn to treat people better. read more

Wow! This store is amazing!! We are so lucky to have it in the DFW (and even luckier to have it in McKinney :)). They have everything that you could imagine and more (I am not sure why that other reviewer didn't want store credit...they carry Uggs, Yeti, North Face, Patagonia, and the list goes on...). Everyone in the store was extremely friendly and helpful (I sure needed it since this is our first family trip). A worker even helped distract my son so I could finish my decisions up. They also have great sales/prices. You can get last seasons stuff for 30-40% off. It was impressive how much they have and sell....they were constantly moving inventory when I was there. As a newcomer to the snowboarding scene, I was ready to go back to Colorado for my second year in a row, but hesitant to invest in the pricey gear associated with the sport. My first year I borrowed most of the clothing from a friend, and rented just about everything else. This year I was ready to throw (slightly) more money down and spent some time looking through REI and Sun and Ski. My goal was to find a nice, quality pair of snowboarding pants for less than $100. After shopping around, I felt defeated. The only ones I ever found in my price range were online, and looked like the color palettes had been picked out by a blind person. While driving on the Tollway, I noticed a billboard for Doug and Lynda's and thought I'd check it out. They claimed "prices too low to advertise!" but I was still skeptical. Since it's in downtown McKinney, I expected a tiny hole-in-the-wall mom and pop type of place. However, I couldn't have been more wrong. This place is huge! They have possibly the best selection of snowboarding and skiing gear and clothing I've seen. And the best part? Their prices are amazing! They put all of last year's items on sale for 40% off. Who cares if the gorgeous hot pink Columbia pants I walked away with were from last year? What matters is that they were only $80- well within my budget. I even was able to try on about 5 different pairs, all last-season (but still fabulous) and reasonably priced. I'm definitely coming back next year when it's time to buy a jacket! read more

I had an embarrassing time going into this shop. If you're not white keep a look out because I'm assuming the shop owners/workers have probably never seen an ethnic person who skied! I went in with my little sister and her friend and I had worn the bottom hat on the bottom in the attached picture with the north face logo into the store. Of course I went in to purchase things for skiing so I bought more hats (bottom two in the pic) ski pants, and jacket. Point is, as soon as I walked in I tucked my hat into my open purse and walked over to the hat section. I believe the elderly blond lady working felt like my sister, her friend, or I would dare to seal from their shop. I've never stolen anything in my life before so being followed around the shop for no reason felt extremely uncomfortable and unwelcoming! I only bring up the whole race thing because we were literally the only brown people in the store! And I spent a really good amount of money there even after having this lady follow me around. She did ask us if we needed any help but after politely denying the help and informing her I was simply looking around, she kept following us. I am never going into that shop again. I even told my bf about this and he brought up he fact that maybe if I had gone in there with him (because he's white) they wouldn't have followed us around. I've never experienced this in my life before. Especially when my sister, her friend, and I look like any regular person. I am telling all my ski friends NOT to come here. My wife and I went into this store yesterday to buy some ski wear prior to our trip. We noticed everything was on the expensive side but decided to move forward because they are the only show in town. Even REI does not carry much in the way of ski wear/equipment. After getting home, my wife found the ski googles she thought were lost. No problem right? We'll just return the the goggles we just purchased for $150.00. Before leaving for the store, I looked for the receipt and noticed in small faded ink, the statement that they do not give refunds. ??? In disbelief, I called the store to confirm their policy and sure enough, NO REFUNDS. I was shocked. They will however give you store credit to purchase something you do not need. We did not see this policy stated anywhere in the store, nor were we told at checkout. Not a good way to do business. My advice, which I will follow from now on, is to wait until you arrive at your destination and purchase items needed from a real ski shop. read more

I was having a hard time trying to find a pair of snowboard pants that would fit my big bottom but small waist. I went to 6 different stores and had no luck. I ordered some on line and they didn't fit. Thinking that this store would be too expensive and have a small selection I didn't consider coming in period boy was I wrong. I saved so much time and money by coming to this store. They have very good rates on their stuff and an amazing selection. SO many different brands. I ended up getting my boarding pants. BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!! The people here are so sweet and helpful. I've never been skiing before and they helped me find everything I needed. There is such a big selection for all shapes and sizes. Lots of amazing deals, practically everything is on sale and things that aren't are still very reasonable! The store is very organized and nicely put together. Also, they have a shop in the back of the store where they fix, tune up, wax and sell skis/snowboards! So cool! I absolutely love this store! This is where I went before my snowboarding trip to pick up a new coat, pants and whatever other supplies I needed. After living in Texas for a few years all my cold weather wear has disappeared. I got there a little later then I expected after missing the exit, but they were very helpful recommending everything I'd need. Starting with coats and pants, all the way to pointing me to the long underwear and goggles. They've got some good quality products and much cheaper then you'll find Colorado (or probably any other ski resort). A few comments though, the gloves they recommended, Burton Baker gloves weren't waterproof. It was probably worse since it was above freezing when I was at Vail. Make sure you get something waterproof. If you are going snowboarding for the first time I'd recommend getting gloves with wrist supports built in, or buying slim ones you can put under your gloves. My wrists were sore for over a week afterwards after catching myself several times from fairly minor falls. You might not be able to find the integrated ones here. And socks, buy some nice thick socks, don't skimp. I got some Wigwams here and my feet were cold the day I wore them. The thicker burton socks I picked up on a whim at REI kept me much warmer. If you are looking to get equipped before a trip to the slopes this is a good place to go in Texas, although a little out of the way. read more

After going to Sports Authority, REI, Sun and Ski I was very disappointed and not impressed any of their selections as far as ski wear and accessories go. I couldnt find anything. So I decided to take the 30 mile drive to Doug and Lynda's. I couldnt have been happier. They have a huge selection of items. A ton of pants and jackets and accessories to choose from. All different styles, top name brands, colors, everything.The colors of ski pants were limitless as well as for jackets. They also have great sales. I bought two North Face jackets for 40% off. I left 120% happy and satisfied. This place was a blessing!! read more

Doug and Lynda decorate their walls with borders made of snow sleds. A quick phone call with straight forward answers brought us here on day-before Christmas shopping for active children. I was anticipating pricey sleds and found, instead, competitive prices with the Internet on everything in the store. For price and time sensitive shoppers, consider there are no shipping costs and no waiting for delivery when the snowy forecast has been made. All their sleds were high quality. Worst customer service EVER! 1 older woman and at least FOUR teenager/college students were working on a SATURDAY NIGHT around 6 pm and NONE of them were on the floor helping customers.! Who knows how many others were working because we only saw HALF the store (ski clothing section). There were at least 30-50 people in the store constantly. They must had been ringing people up, right? NOPE!! They were counting money and receipts. Yeah! If you ask for help, they look at you like you are putting them out. Then, point in the general direction of where the item is or walk you over to the section with an attitude and leave quickly. They don't offer to help find other sizes or help fit the skier. Non-sale items are often found on sale racks and sale items on non-sale racks! No locks on dressing room doors that are located in the back of the store- fully exposed to other customers! They have 1 small bench outside each dressing room so your significant other can sit and make sure nobody opens your "stall" while you are in your drawers! It is complete chaos! SMUG SMUG SMUG. Huge store. Lots of variety. Sale items, if you get lucky and find one on the correct rack, are priced well! However, non-sale items are more expensive than Amazon. Just sayin! I would had been willing to pay a higher price if the service was even average. But, customer service is really bad at this mom and pop shop. Good luck! read more

I recently purchased all my skin gear here for my upcoming trip on monday. I gotta smokin deal ya heard! I decided to retire the snowboard. Brad helped me out along with Fred . They were the most helpful,kind,and cutious people. I would have given this place 10 stars if i could have. In my expierience in life I have learned that your best service is at a ma and pa shop like this. I would glady support them even if it was gonna be summer heat for the next 10 years :p .
