Updating my review, this likely applies for all the locations, I either get doughnuts here or primarily urban space. I am dropping it down a star because lately the doughnuts I got have been inconsistent and not as good as I would hope. Sometimes the glaze just tastes like powdered sugar and not the flavor and the doughnuts have been far too greasy. Hopefully, this is corrected soon. I'm basically addicted to all things sugar and have developed a bit of a donut obsession over the past few years (3.5 hour donut crawl anyone?). So naturally, I've been dying to visit Dough and I finally had a chance to last weekend during my visit to NYC. I stopped by about 30 minutes before closing and was able to try 3 of their flavors - Plain Glazed, Cafe Au Lait, and a chocolate based one I forgot the name of. THE GOOD - I prefer cake donuts over yeast donuts, but I thought the texture of their yeast dough was great - delightfully fluffy with just the right amount of chewiness. THE MEH - I'm HUGE on the glaze, and although the flavors were pretty good (i.e. I liked how the glaze on the plain donut was a little milkier in flavor), I thought that the glaze:dough ratio was on the lower side. In fact, the glaze on my plain donut was so sparse that I definitely had bites of donut without any glaze (sadness). - Nothing really caught my attention - the "traditional" donuts (i.e. the plain glazed) were done decently but not amazingly, and the more unique flavors (i.e. cafe au lait) were not particularly interesting in the flavor profiles. At the end of the day, I thought the donuts were just okay. Happy birthday! I mostly relied on the midtown location for my Dough fix, but I couldn't keep away from the buy-4-get-2 promo celebrating the location's 2nd birthday. Two years older and no worse for the wear, it looks just as I remembered, and tastes every bit as good. The full range of flavors were on display today, and they each looked great. I went with a salted caramel chocolate, plain glazed, cinnamon sugar, lemon poppyseed, hibiscus, and passion fruit. Each one a work of art, in form as well as taste. Highlights were the decadent salted caramel chocolate and the complex passion fruit, but each was very good in its own way. Don't come here if you have a food allergy. They gave us a donut with nuts after we specifically asked if it contained nuts since we have a nut allergy. Before we ordered a cafe au lait donut we asked the girl behind the counter if it contains nuts. She said no. I took a bite then realized the whole thing was covered in nuts!! My boyfriend took a bite before me and immediately started to feel his throat itching. This place is deadly and it seems the staff do not receive training on food allergy. If you have a food allergy I DO NOT recommend coming here. It doesn't matter if you asked. Absolutely love dough! Even though I've only visited dough a few times only, I've had dough doughnuts numerous times! All the flavors are delicious! My favorite is the cafe au lait and second the coconut. I also enjoy the almond mocha, hibiscus, lemon poppy a great lot! Besides the flavors, it's the cake-like, fluffy textures that make me fall in love from time after time! The store has about 10-15 seats, so it's possible to not get a seat. Or a wait is necessary. Generally, I would grab a box or a few in the bag and go. Despite of the long times in the morning and weekends, the cashiers and boxers/baggers are very quite, efficient, and friendly! I'm not a 100% sure if this is right but a donut tends to cost around $2.50 to $3.00. The best darn doughnuts I've ever eaten anywhere on Planet Earth. Gorgeously light but plus-sized and only $3 each! It's a modest looking little shop, with a clear view of the kitchen in the rear and a refectory style table if you wanted to eat in and have a coffee. After having one with a margarita glaze and enjoying it so much I came back the very next day and internally screamed when I saw they had lemon meringue doughnuts available. But there was a queue, and sure enough as it got shorter my lemon meringue-y treats became fewer in number. I thought I'd get lucky being next in line but the douche in front of me ordered a mixed box of six. Hope he choked on it! Variations on the America's favorite pastry. I love donuts as much as the next guy, and after a quick lunch, our sweet tooths were calling out for some nourishment. Dough had a surprisingly long line at 2PM, and we decided to sit through 15 minutes of waiting to get at the doughy circles behind the glass display. Dough has a variety of traditional and fruity flavors. You can see the entire production through the glass behind the counter. All the colors are so vibrant, and I really wanted to buy a six pack to split but just ended up getting two of my own: chocolate glazed with cocoa nibs and passion fruit curd-filled. The passion fruit curd was extremely powerful. If you're not a fan of lemon bars, stay far, far away. The jelly in the center was so tart and sweet that I had to scoop a little out in order to enjoy the cake. The chocolate was a little more traditional, and I loved the crunchy cocoa nibs, mixing up the texture and adding a little bit oomf. We had a birthday in the office the next week, and I ended up sampling everything else on the menu. My favorites are passion fruit (non-filled), and earl grey. The others were not too memorable, although I remember being disappointed by pumpkin and coconut. At $2.75 a pop, they aren't ridiculously priced, but I need to be in mood for Dough. My only regret when visiting this Quaint little shop in Flatiron last night, was not ordering a box of 6 (and sharing my 4 with a friend)! God's soft, fluffy, breakfast/dessert creations are made perfectly here. Like everyone else here, I had the Dulce De Leche after a friend recommended this place. You can see the actual donut making process in the back with the oven and the workers kneading dough and everything. This place is a small bakery that has a few tables for seating and a small selection of donuts. Some of the best doughnuts in the entire country are being sold out of this new Manhattan location of the Brooklyn mega hit bakery. It is a happy time. The donuts here are so fluffy, light, and nicely textured that they, along with Dough Loco in Harlem, are definitely the best yeast donuts I've had in NYC. I have eaten a lot of them over the last year and again at the new location today. Here are my 5 favorites: 1) Hibiscus Doughnut: I always find that the acidic based glazes (like on passionfruit, this one, and lemon poppyseed) just cut the sweetness and oiliness of the doughnut so well. This one is particularly amazing 2) Lemon Poppyseed Doughnut: This kind of reminds me of lemon poppyseed cake and it is tasty. I think I like the Passionfruit just as much. 3) Dulce De Leche: The Dulce de Leche doughnut is drenched in a thick dulce de leche glaze studded with sliced toasted almonds. It is awesome. 4) Cafe au Lait: I do not even know what the crunchy things are on this doughnut (they're on both sides!) but they are absolutely amazing and the slight coffee flavor in the smooth glaze is addicting. 5) Passionfruit Doughnut: Seriously this is more like #2 for me but it is a lot like the Hibiscus so I didn't make it higher. I get this all the time. Y'know maybe this one is actually my favorite and it should be #1 and not #2 or #5. Anyway, whatever you get will be awesome. There was a huge line when I came here at like 5:15 pm on a Saturday and it actually went by really, really fast. Then we end up cutting each donut into 4 piece because they are just soo huge and dense. They go well with tea/coffee/as breakfast- despite the sweet topping the dough isn't actually that sweet which I like, I wish they had an old fashion style or one that's more plain or not as glazed as the regular plain glazed they offer. Been here twice and I do like think their doughnuts are pretty good. The first time I came here, I had tried the Almond Crunch since it was so popular. I thought it was good, but nothing amazing to be honest. I wish there was more of a coffee flavor to it, but it felt more almost more like a chocolate doughnut. But I still enjoyed it. Even though they are more yeast-y, they aren't super dense and heavy. I came here a second time for the All Chocolate Takeover pop up for the weekend. They had partnered with Callebut to create 15 new chocolate doughnuts. I bought 6 to try out at $3.50 a piece and thought they were pretty good. The flavors I tried were White Matcha, Custard-Filled with Hot Fudge Glaze and Cone Bites, Roasted Banana-Caramel, Tropical Dark (Passion, Pineapple and Orange, Chocolate Arroz con leche and Brazil Yuzu-Ginger. My favorite was probably the roasted banana caramel, then the custard filled one and matcha. Beside the filled doughnuts, all the rest of the doughnuts were pretty much the same except that a different glaze was used for each flavor. The upside was that they weren't overly sweet, so eat one wouldn't be too crazy. The sizes of the doughnuts were quite large too, so for $3.50 a piece, they aren't too bad for the price. If I were to go back, I would probably just pick a few that I really want to try since the base doughnut is all the same. One thing I don't recommend is getting them at Wholefoods. I tried it there once and they were dense and somewhat dry. Maybe they aren't as fresh, so I would recommend you just get it from their stores. I also love that the store has utensil and plates for you to cut up and share with people. Why am I so happy? Well two things: First of all there is a "Dough" right in my hood, so although going to BK is not really an issue, I like the fact that Dough is just a littler closer to me. Second, they are better tasting and cheaper than Doughnut Plant! ( sorry but I had to say it) I mean is there any other information you need?....lol of course ...the Doughnuts of course! As someone who has found donut heaven while in Downtown San Diego at a place called the Donut Bar, Dough is a great competitor on the other side of the coast. The size of the donut is roughly the same: massive is the proper term to describe it. The selection is intricate and well crafted. The pricing is also solid, much like my beloved donut shop back on the west coast. This is indeed a great find. I picked up a Cafe Au Lait donut for $3 and it's super good! There was something about the topping that I couldn't get away from and had to try. I went in on a relatively quiet morning since it was the middle of the week, but this was definitely delicious! One thing I would note about the texture of the donut is that it is fluffy, but has a bit of a cakey texture going. It's great. If you're a die hard Krispy Kreme fan, this might not be it for you since those are just too airy for me and Dough has slightly denser donuts, which is fantastic. Ran into the place while I was waiting for the store next door to open. And I'm so glad I did! The donuts here are simply the best! People rave about the cafe au lait. It's good but it's not on the top of my list. It tastes like a cafe AU lait except sweeter! A bit too sweet if you ask me. The passion fruit is fruity and refreshing. Almost tastes like guava. Its different but very good. The lemon poppy is my boyfriends fav! My favorites are the NUTELLA and the coconut. Feel free to pass on the cinnamon and sugar donuts. The Nutella is every hazelnut/nutella-lover's dream. It looks like a small sugar donut, but when you bite into it, an explosion of Nutella filling comes out. It not thick like the one you see in the jar. It's still rich, gooey, and delicious. And there's so much of it and not enough at the same time. If you love coconut (ESP coconut milk), get the coconut donut. The glaze is like a coconut milk cream topped with toasted coconut flakes. It doesn't have that fake coconut taste. It's just simply sweet and savory. Be prepared to wait! There's usually a line! Do what I do, order half a dozen to go! read more
