Douglas Burgers is a small charbroiled establishment in North Long Beach that is located on Cherry between South and Artesia. This place always seems vacant and upon visiting yesterday with my family I now know why the restaurant is always empty. We decided to dine in and as I attempted to pay for my 3 meals at the counter (which came out to $51 and some change) the older man working the register declared that my card did not go through when I clearly got charged on my behalf. I showed him the transaction and how it deducted money from my bank account but he blatantly declared there was nothing he could do about it. My hunger diminished and became replaced with anger and confusion as I couldn't reach a customer service rep from my bank to dispute the transaction at that moment. Hangry and anxious, I gathered my family as we just decided to head somewhere else to grab a bite while I'd resolve the transaction dilemma later on. We were all in the car and ready to take off from the parking lot when the same old man comes bolting out with a crumpled up receipt stating that my card did go through after all and that the receipt was simply stuck in the little machine. Mind you, he told my boyfriend that his seems to happen occasionally with customers which must totally suck on the behalf of consumers. I mean what happens if we just left the parking lot while all along I did get charged for that food? We came back inside, sat in a booth and was immediately served our meals and drinks. I ordered a bacon avocado cheeseburger combo for myself, a chili cheeseburger combo for my brother, and a regular cheeseburger combo for my youngest bro. The burger was extremely bland and consisted of more bread than patty, sauce, or toppings. I used to work at a charbroiled burger spot and I know when old fries have been refried which is exactly what my family and I were served yesterday. The fries were so gross, hard, and stale that my brothers and I didn't even eat them, they managed to finish their burgers but I could only take a few bites just to feel like I got my moneys worth (which was definitely not the case here). I also ordered a few sides of thousand island and even the sauce was bland. Douglas Burgers definitely gets two thumbs DOWN from me based on the quality of food, price-point, and my overall experience here. Whoever is deciding to keep this business afloat definitely has their work cut out for them. I don't recommend this burger joint to anyone as there are much better charbroiled burger establishments available in LB. read more

I realize it's tough out there for the small businesses, however, I think these guys are a little deceptive in their advertising. Outside of their restaurant they have a poster of a humongous plate of chili cheese fries with a Coke. It's a chili cheese fry meal for $8.80. Sounds like a great deal, right? Well, when the guy actually brought out, our chili cheese he looked a little embarrassed. I would be too, The order would have fit in the palm of my hand. It should have been maybe a two dollar upgrade to some french fries. It was so small, that my friend and I had to go to Burger King to pick up some extra food because the chili cheese fries special was really just a snack. I have come here for years even many before YELP wait was that a thing?? Anyway I guess it had to be. For years this was my go to spot. Love almost everything about it but as of late I have had one issue. I have been on a major pastrami kick an have tried this place a handful of times and each time been charged something different and given something different. The flavor is ok but the first time it was overwhelming with mustard and pickles. The second time it was just a little to oily. And today I made sure to ask for light mustard and pickles and there where none until the last few bites. Please can you figure it out? P.S. make sure to ask for no chili and cheese on it unless that's what you want but I don't know whose doing that anyway. Pull up in the drive thru to let them know you placed an order then pull up. My go-to is the Chorizo burrito with everything on it + hash browns (sometimes I get beans) but hash browns are better. Douglas had been my go to spot for over 20 years. I remember in middle school a few of my friends and I would always come eat here. We would order the 4 piece chicken dinner. It came with 4 pieces of chicken, fries, a salad, and toast. It was big enough to feed all 4 of us. Or the chili cheese fries, our all time favorite. I've tried nearly everything on there menu. My favorites are: The chili cheese fries, deluxe burgers special (2 for $3.99), the breakfast burrito, and the spinach omelette. The portions here are HUGE and you'll leave here full and happy. The service is consistently good and I've never had a bad experience, not once. I would rather eat here than any of those low end fast food joints. Coming back to North LB after a tradeshow one night, I decided to stop for a burger and fries at the local Jims, Tams, Fantastic...oh wait, this one is Douglas Burgers #2. It was okay...a total-3-star experience...food was okay, service was okay, it was clean...yeah, I'd go back. This morning, I woke up and thought...damn, a breakfast burrito from Boy's, Yellow Basket, Flame's...Douglas Burgers would make a lot of sense. I roll up in the drive thru and although it's there on the bottom right corner of their menu board, I asked "do you have a breakfast burrito?" The speaker responded "Yes, would you like ham, sausage, bacon or carne asada?" Oh Wizard of Oz speaker box, did you just say Carne Asada Breakfast Burrito?? I'm in!! $6 and change later, and I get this burrito home...damn, it is loaded with a simple 5 ingredients, each one complimenting the next. A huge burrito where a soft & warm tortilla wrapped around a smooth layer of beans, melted cheese, egg and of course carne asada which i found really flavorful for a hole in the wall burger spot.
