Anyway when they built this Douglas we lived right across the street dad worked in a factory on Curry St....he work so hard. When dad paid on Fridays we got paid...my dad was toooo strict. Dad would give us $2.00 then dad would let us go to Douglas...we got beef dips...shakes....fries.....steak sandwhich....sodas with 3 of us we had 6 bucks. Well as we got older the Greek boys worked there on the grill moved in our apts. We loved those sexy boyz if dad knew no more Douglas for us. We would go there on Fridays with my older aunt sometimes...we got made becuase she flirted too hard. We still go there time to time the food is okay not great but you do get a lot...the burgers are really good. This is staple eatery in northern Long Beach. I I've been coming here since I lived in North Long Beach and they never failed to satisfy my cravings. Make sure to try the pastrami sandwich. It is really awesome. And their menu is actually pretty well rounded from breakfast to Mexican to steak and fried items as well as salads. Definitely a good recommendation. Every Douglas burger joint usually offers overall the same kind of menu, but each one is different in their own way. The burgers are very similar to all the other locations. I think I came on an off night. My food was bland. I had the avo burger & onion rings. Ok, so one of my pet peeves is shreded lettuce in burgers/sandwiches. All it does is fall out. I understand you save time using the same lettuce for the burgers, salads & tacos, but it makes your burgers unappealing. And I'm a big girl. I sure do eat my fair share of burgers. I'll prob stay away from these ones. Burger and onion rings were bland for my taste, but I'd rather have them underseasoned than overseasoned. Nothing a little jiggle of the salt shaker won't fix. I always assume that when food has less salt than necessary its because a lot of older people eat there. They've been there for years, and it clearly shows that. Their personalities aren't that bright. But they're nice enough not to make the experience unpleasant. I ordered over the phone the other day 2x breakfast burritos, for me and my girlfriend. I wasn't expecting anything to rant and rave over. But these things were huge & really heavy. I ordered the sausage burrito. When I bit into it, it was perfectly cooked. But the funny thing was, this burrito was more like a country style breakfast, all wrapped up. I didn't sense anything in there that would make this thing "Mexican" in any way, except for the little tub of delicious salsa they provide with it, and the tortilla it was wrapped in. I really want to like this place, I do. These type of burger places are usually a late night guilty pleasure. The staff is super friendly, that is the only reason this is a 3 star. I have had the chicken salad, which was decent. I also had the gyro which was pretty bad and the burger on about 5 separate occasions; every single time its just a dry, bready burger with limp lettuce. I haven't watched them cook it, but it seems to me like they cook all the patties ahead of time and just re-heat them on the grill top once ordered, thus rendering them dry. Dry dry dry. That much stayed the same until I came across the one on Cherry during one of my night time bike cruises, a few bucks and a nickel burning a hole in my pocket. After having a look at their menu, I decided to give their Chili Dog a go, just to see what level of fast food I should expect. The chili was standard but copious, and the hint of mustard gave it just enough zip(keep in mind I'm not terribly fond of mustard). What really surprised me, however, was the hot dog itself. Not only was the flavor more hot dog-like than many I've had before(I.E. lots of savor and a nice bite of spice), but it's girth was also mouth filling-ly immense-a nice change of pace from the puny wieners I'm used to sticking in there *ba-dum tish*. Went in around 7:30-8:00 pm ish. Not really busy. No customers. Pretty quiet. There were four workers I saw but none greeted me in a timely fashion. Once the guy saw me, he told his other coworker and when she came to the cashier it was as if she didn't want to take my order and I saw it in her face that she was going to give me attitude. While I was ordering I observed that the person cooking didn't wear gloves.. I saw a man proceed to touch his phone.. Not sure if it was the same man cooking. Anyways, the lady who took my order was very rude. I understand it was night time and she was probably very tired but that is no excuse to be rude to someone who hasn't done anything wrong. I went to Douglas the other day and I went thru the drive-through. They were serving walk up customers at the drive-through. I waited for a group of three ladies to finish with their order and get their food and then I was going to drive up I have already placed my order. Then this Karen walks up to the drive-through in front of my car stopping me from driving forward, she refused to move waits for her food and then I'm able to drive forward. Douglas should've refused to place her order or to give her food until they finished with my order. This is just an example of horrible customer service. I will never shop there again. read more
