Went to Douglas VW to check out the 2019 AllTrack as a replacement for a BMW SUV. A male met us as we were approaching the showroom. We explained what we wanted to see. His response was that there were one or two on the lot. We walked to the rear and saw a Red and a Black AllTrack. The man stated to my Wife. "These cars are pretty expensive. They cost $30-$35,000". My Wife's response was "Well my BMW cost over $40,000." The man went to get the keys for the Black AllTrack. While he was gone, my Wife told me how RUDE and presumptuous he was. I just picked up my car, and I am very impressed with Rick Szucs and the entire Service Department at Douglas Volkswagen. There were a few reasons why a normal dealership would have given me sub-par service: My Jetta has 83,000 miles and is outside of warranty, so not much money to be made off me. Also, I am not actively in the market for a new car, so again, not much money to make off me. I was coming in off-the-street as a one-time customer, who was looking to get a couple recall items fixed on my car. All that to say, I was shocked with how well I was treated by Douglas Volkwagen. They treated me like a loyal and valued customer. They even did more work that I asked: a free synthetic oil change, car wash, and loaner vehicle. Their appointment process was a breeze and service was zippy and punctual. They followed up with an email survey just now. Incredible experience. I live in Hoboken, so the Manhattan VW is much closer to my home, but I will be driving myself to Summit, NJ from now on! read more

Picked up our GTI from Douglas VW last week. Vlad was a professional from start to finish, and wasn't very pushy. I did my own research and we arrived at a fair price. I bought my VW in 2009 when I was living in Chicago. I recently moved to NJ and my front headlight went out. Not knowing where to go, I searched for a VW and saw Douglas was on my route home. I was so impressed by the level of service that I received! Not only did they fix the problem, but they checked for recalls and found several open recalls (I had taken it into my shop in May 2012 in Chicago and they did NOT address these!). They told me it would be ~3 hour wait if I wanted to go ahead and fix the problems, and they offered to take me to the mall or borrow a car to do my errands due to my errands. During the safety check they found several issues that could be a problem (cracked part), yet they were not pushy about having me fix the problems there. I appreciate that they valued me and my time as well as looking after my car. I will continue to repeat my business there due to their service and taking care of me and my car. read more

Normally take my car to Three County VW but decided to bring it here since it's closer to home. What a mistake. I'd been feeling a jerking movement for a few days and suddenly while driving on the Parkway I heard a loud sound coming from the left side tire. The lady at the service counter looked at me like I was crazy, and asked "Did any light come on?" essentially questioning why I brought the car in. No, lady, I'm going to wait until it breaks down one me completely. A technician stated he and another drove the car twice and found nothing wrong. I insisted. On the third supposed inspection something was found; a detached hose and missing caps, which would've been noticeable at the first look. He also took pictures (not obvious at all!) I was told he gave me two or three discounts. When I showed my hubby the pics he said I got dupped, and after thinking about the whole situation, he's right. The picture of the missing cap had a clean right around it, which meant something was clearly covering it. Had the cap been missing, it would've looked as dirty as the rest of the hose. They noticed I insisted on something being wrong with the car and took advantage of it. Also tried to get me to replace the brakes for $600 something. No thanks. No loaner car either. When I dropped the car off I figured I'd talk to a sales person about leasing another VW since my lease is over next year. I was told that I was over mileage (as most people are) and I'd be better off waiting until the lease is over so I wouldn't have to pay the rest of the initial lease off AND the mileage. What?! This would be my fourth VW, a loyal customer, and you'd make me pay the rest of the lease amount AND over mileage? FOH! I'll go back to Three County VW. read more

Where do I start?! This place ran my credit without my permission, decided to be nice and give them a try. Already uncomfortable about the credit check without permission, talked to Rodger after a text or two he stopped writing me. They called me before my appointment and encouraged me to come in. Get there, the customer service was bad. Stood there for a while with a group of cis white men that wouldn't even say hello. Finally I leave and someone decided to come and assist. He escorts me in and I'm letting him know I came to speak to Rodger. Rodger walks up and didn't even introduce himself. He asked me what did I need and I reminded him who I was from our conversation over the phone and he stares at me blankly . I asked if he remembered me from the situation and the only thing he says is " I talk to alot of people". From there he asked me "what do you want to do?" No discussion, no means for my privacy in the space, just blatant lack of care for the customer. He in fact talked to me as if I was poor/in desperate need. I politely said I rather not move forward. Too many red flags and the energy is very unthoughtful in here. Not only did they waste my time but also messed with my credit without acknowledgment. This dealership is a bunch of cis men, mainly white that only care about their money and not the experience especially the thoughtfulness of black customers. The lease on my Tiguan was set to expire and I knew that I wanted to lease a new Tiguan. I did my research online and got quotes from a number of local dealers. Then I turned to Yelp to help me choose the right dealer to work with. Douglas VW had the highest rating and the most helpful reviews. A few reviewers mentioned Tito so I was pleased that he just so happened to be the salesperson I met when I stopped by the dealership. Tito was terrific - straight-forward, no games, and very pleasant to work with. He gave me a good price and a fair deal. He made the process very easy and painless. When I picked up my car, Christopher Ng handled the paperwork because I arrived later than planned and Tito had another appointment. Like Tito, Chris is pleasant and professional. After finishing the paperwork, Tito took the time to sit with me in my new car and review the new features. Like most dealers, parts and labor are overpriced, but that is only where the problems at Douglas Motors begin. It is difficult to get an appointment. They assign you to one of their customer service people and once you're assigned you can never talk to anyone else. No one else will take your calls or make appointments for you. If the assigned person is out, too bad, you'll have to wait until your person gets back and feels like calling you. They don't provide loaners, but they have a shuttle that will take you anywhere within 5 - 7 miles. This would be a good thing if you didn't have to wait so long for it. There is only one driver who doesn't check where anyone else is going before leaving. Even though several people may be going to the train station, the driver will go back and forth one at a time. I've stopped using this dealership, but before I did, I was never able to get any problem resolved in one trip. They NEVER had the parts necessary to do the repair. This always amazed me, it's the dealership after all. Their process was to order the part, then send you a postcard (no phone call, no e-mail) then, and only then, you're allowed to make a follow-up appointment. In addition to the annoying assigned person thing, I've never waited less than a week to get an appointment. On top of all of this, they manage to find something else wrong with the car, or failing that, they try to sell you some bogus service like cleaning the engine. read more

When you need to make an appointment you have to leave a message and then wait home for hours to get a call back. When you call to see if your car is ready you have to leave another message and then wait hours for a call back. Today I called service for an emergency. Still waiting for a call back 70 minutes later. At first I spoke to the receptionist,explained to her that I really needed to speak to some one. She said if someone answers the call if not I would have to leave a message. So I did and still waiting. I have purchased 2 vw's from them. First a Eos and then the Jetta. When Douglas had the Ford dealership down the street I bought 4 fords from the dealership. I'am buying a volkswagen cc for myself next month,but it will not be from Douglas,and I'm still waiting for that call back from service. read more

Ugh! Stereotypical "car salesmen". Held my car for a week for estimates, then when they gave me the costs they were outrageous! Of course, they "found things" I didn't know I needed... So I asked if I could trade my car in instead of the repairs. They said sure and gave me pricing with a salesperson that looked like he just graduated sales training; gave me every 'line" in the book ("What can I do to put you in a car today?") and that crap. Went to shop at other dealers and got a fantastic deal at "another" VW dealer. Douglas' deal was over $200 per month higher ON THE SAME LEASE, plus they wanted over $5,000 down!!! A&&holes. Typical car salesmen; they jack up the price and screw you on repairs and try to rob you on the sales side thinking they're giving you a "good deal". Don't waste your time or money. read more

I've been pricing around the atlas. I have a price and term im set on if a dealer offered it to me I would have signed that day. No big deal. Called Douglas made an appointment to see mike. Arrived he was with clients also no big deal. I sat and waited he introduced himself. Spoke very frankly what I wanted the term price all the above. Said he had a model he could give me a sick price on. So I waited. Lot kid brings up the wrong car. I let mike know he says ok I'll send him to get the rite one. Mind you it's about 45 minutes I've been there. So I sit and wait. Fast forward about another 45 minutes. The clients he was with leave. And he gives me about 5 minutes of his attention. Tells me I don't have the car we initially spoke about it's sold. And he's price some things he doesn't want me to wait around anymore. I spent 30 minutes driving. An hour and a half siting waiting for a total of 5 minutes with a sales guy that writes my name and number on the back of a copy of another customers license. I don't ever rite reviews this is actually my first ever. But how I was brushed off and not taken serious and the obvious time wasted with not a care in the world really pissed me off. Not even invited in his office to actually talk a deal out just I'll call you and have you come back Monday like I wanna take another trip to have the same experience is horrible business to me. Maybe this place just wasn't meant to be. The car market is hot rite now and a I get that. But don't treat a prospective customer with disregard because you have other people waiting to see you that showed up after I arrived. Extremely Unsatisfied Customer!!!! Never do business with these guys. I submitted a complaint to the better business bureau on these guys to resolve trade-in payment charge. I received an offer to settle and accepted the terms. The case was closed as satisfied, but I was still billed for the trade-in charges. If I could give this place negative stars I would. We came here after my father was sent a text message (professional right?), saying that he was approved for a loan and to come down. So we drive the 40 minutes, he takes the info and brings over the special finance manager. She was rather brusque and took everything and went back to run the credit. Meanwhile we had started looking at cars and narrowed it down to 3 possibilities. We go back in and the salesman comes back with the manager and she rather snootily tells us there is an open repossession on our car. I knew there wasn't, but to appease her I called the financier and verified in fact there was no repossession. It was an error on transUnion's end where they did not mark a previous repossession as redeemed. Meanwhile she's nastily telling my father to hide the car and not to make a payment on it. After trips to a few dealerships my quest to lease my first new car seemed to be hopeless. Every place wanted to get me into a car, at their price without concern or regard for mine. Of course these prices were fair for a fully optioned top-of-the-line vehicle offered by each respective maker. Unfortunately, I was in the market for an affordable mid-sized sedan with a couple fairly common convenience options. I would walk into a dealership and most times was greeted happily, given a high level view of any model I showed an interest in, and even allowed to test drive then we would sit down to talk about the financial aspect; it was at this point that the conversation stopped and the dictation began. I was of course asked about my budget, which I put forward and said there is some room for me to go higher (I generally tried to keep it within reason of advertised prices/sales). I was met with a number that told me they either were not listening at all or at the very least had taken my numbers, doubled them, and then as a courtesy taken a few dollars off of the top. This was, to say the least, frustrating; counter offers were equally fruitless. My experience with Mark Van Name at Douglas Volkswagen in Summit, NJ was the polar opposite. I wanted to preface my review with my experience because this may be what you have felt in your trips to other dealerships, do yourself a favor and avoid more bad experiences, go to Douglas Volkswagen in Summit, NJ. With frustration mounting I decided to try another dealership that was on my way home from work, Douglas Volkswagen in Summit, NJ. When I walked in that evening I was greeted warmly by Mark Van Name (who would ultimately get my business). We sat down at his desk and he made sure I was comfortable (did I want some coffee or water, ect). We then went into discussing what I was looking for. From the start I could tell that he was listening to me, he intently took notes and asked questions to make sure we were both on the same page. He could plainly see I was very focused on a particular model so most of his additions to this conversation were to inform me of further options within that category or to add helpful, relevant information, NOT to steer me toward a model/options that I did not want. After carefully listening to me he told me that while he did not have the particular color I wanted he did have a model with all of the same features that I could see that moment and should I decide to lease with Douglas it would not be any trouble at all to locate the precise model in the color I wanted and have it transferred. Then it came time to talk about finances. Mark was very carefully listened to what I was looking for and tried to understand a clear picture of my budget. He then took all of that information and very shortly was able to come back with a price that was right in my budget, I was so satisfied with it I did not have to haggle for pricing. I was glad to accept Mark's offer. He further made himself and Douglas stand-out because the follow up was outstanding. He kept me up to date and informed me when my car made it to the dealership and was ready for pick up. He followed up when my plates arrived. He and Douglas proved that that they were less interested in simply getting me to buy a car, they were truly interested in my continued business and overall satisfaction. read more

I'd love to leave zero stars. Sent me a letter about helping people get on track blah blah blah. Spoke to 2 representatives on the phone who took the EXACT same information from me, it's been placed on the managers desk, you just have to come in, he already has your application. I go in and the manager asks me the same questions again, shocked and appalled that I already have another vehicle. All of this was discussed prior. Approved by the bank but they want a trade in, I told him I can't trade in, as discussed 2x already, I have a lease. So they request that the bank remove the stipulation. Then I sit for 35 minutes just waiting, then I'm told to go home because they can't get through to the bank. Get a call the next day asking if I'm 1099, no I'm not. Provided pay stubs from my state job. Get another call back stating that my pay stubs are generated wrong or I'm 1099 because my income doesn't match. So I made up fake pay stubs for the dealership that was stalking me to add 4 new inquiries to my credit report for no reason. I didn't even bother asking what idiot can't read a pay stub. Don't even bother. Everyone else sitting there miserably seemed to have their time wasted too. read more

I had to take my car to Millburn Collision to do a simply wax job that Douglas Service center tried twice and could not do and the their body shop wouldn't even try! Millburn Collision did the job, charged me almost nothing and were very confident in the work they do!!! For a $30,000.00 sticker price car, that is the treatment I want!!!. I was driving a volkswagen beetle and really wanted to trade it in for a white gti with plaid seats. I didn't want any other color or leather interior. I went to Vlad at Douglas because he had helped my mother out in the past with her Jetta. Although there were only 2 white GTIs left from 2013 in the system, Vlad made it happen! On the busiest weekend of the year (Black Friday weekend), he had the car shipped and ready for me in under 48 hours. The car is prefect! I was searching for a compact, family friendly, fun, and functional car to keep up with my expanding family, and after doing research narrowed it down to two cars, one of which was the VW Golf. I knew that VWs were quite reputable and reliable from friends and family, but just needed to decide where I would ultimately go to get mine. The customer service I received from Isaac Bunton and the efficiency of which we were able to close a deal came as an extremely pleasant surprise after spending hours and wasted time at two other dealers beforehand. Knowing exactly what I wanted for my purchase, Isaac was kind, funny and a joy to work with ensuring all of my requests and needs were met and all within an hour as I was in a bit of a time crunch as well as I had somewhere to be that evening. TO Head of Service: I've needed to use your department more than once. First time, 'we wash your car each time'~got it back clean, people were kind. The gentleman who should have taken me by alphabet didn't. Facing, he sat to the right of Dominic and treated me with kindness and great respect. Last 2 times Dominic helped me. Might get the job done, yet indifferent to me as a human being and could care less about me or why I am there. BOTH times, LOANER CARS truly disgusting. Dirt , mud, in the seats, everywhere. & SMOKY! WHEN I GOT MY CAR BACK, LAST 2 TIMES, the inside filthy. Yesterday, again, the gas and break pedals full of mud. RUBBER MAT AGAIN! greasy !!muddy. No paper ever on the floor. BOTH front windows fully down, which in a car being taken care of properly you don't do!! and the inside seats, dashboard, everything filthy. There was another scratch where the key goes into the ignition, radio panel full of finger prints, scuff marks by the door. I take care of my car. I asked Dominic, which I shouldn't have to do! to please have the gentleman be careful inside the car. I need a new driver rubber mat now. The felt on the windows now have dirt where they didn't before. YOu've shown me and my car no respect. I should have nothing to complain about ; people being mistreated & companies misrepresent themselves warrant how I feel. I care about being treated kindly~Dominic doesn't know how to do that. & no one has yet to treat my car with the same respect they'd treat one they truly cared about and wanted to keep as clean and in good standing as possible.
