Extremely disappointing experience with Douglas Motors VW I truly regret buying my 2021 Volkswagen Atlas from Douglas Motors Corp. Less than a year after purchase, the check engine light came on, and after several visits, I was told there was carbon buildup on the intake valves -- a well-known issue in VW engines. What makes this worse is that when I first brought the car in, they cleared the warning light without doing any real repair, and told me everything was fine. The light came back the very next day. Then, instead of honoring their warranty or taking responsibility, they quoted me $1,400 + tax for a repair that should have been addressed during the warranty period. Communication with their staff was frustrating and inconsistent. Every time I tried to get straight answers, I got different excuses. The dealership seems more interested in pushing sales than standing behind the vehicles they sell. I've already filed a complaint with Volkswagen of America and the BBB because customers deserve honesty, not avoidance and blame-shifting. If you value transparency, accountability, and integrity -- please avoid this dealership. They treat customers like a problem, not a priority. read more

I had a great experience at the Douglas VW service center - Brian Ardente was amazing to work with. My tire unexpectedly blew out (on the turnpike). I showed up frazzled, as the shop was about to close, but Brian and some of the shop employees stayed late to install two new tires and get my car back to normal. I wasn't charged extra BS fees or pushed unnecessary services, which has happened at other VW dealerships. I sold my car to these guys a year ago. It was registered in NY. They never surrendered the plates and haven't been able to help me prove they've been surrendered. It's been over a year, I've had to pay $2000+ in insurance on a car that I no longer own because insurance won't release the policy on a car that still shows it's registered to me in the NYDMV. I purchased a leased vehicle at Douglas Volkswagen. To get over on me. They gave me a 5 year lease. They gave me the lease on a memory drive. I have never seen any do business this way. I was reeled in by one of the receptions name Patricia. Then I met Flo who helped me with obtaining a car. I traded my 2010 Mercedes in the value was $4000. I didn't check my lease on the memory drive for a whole year. Due to my hours at work I couldn't make it there. I looked at the lease and was floored me. After dealing with so many sneaky car dealerships/sales representatives, I am surprised I am able to give any a 5. Mike Tuzzo, our sales rep, was great from the start. We did not have to wait when we arrived for our appointment. He was pleasant, down-to-earth and not at all pushy. After test driving the car, he listened to our concerns and was willing to address them before purchase. When I was hesitant about something, he even spoke to his manager who then came and allowed us a day to test-drive the vehicle so that we would feel comfortable with our purchase. Mike was very clear about pricing and made an effort to work with our budget (ex: Since the car we were interested in was a Mazda CX5, we told him we would need to get it inspected by a Mazda service center and he was able to negotiate the price down in order to compensate for that additional cost). The only reason we did not purchase the car from them was because it was missing one feature that I could not compromise on. I was very impressed Douglas' Volkswagen customer service and would highly recommend them. After visiting 10+ dealerships in the past month, I can honestly say that this was by far the best experience. I've been bringing my car for service to Douglas for years, and even though I know their prices are way higher than other repair shops, I always felt that my peace of mind was worth it - that is, until my last visit this past January. On my last service they told me I needed to have the arms replaced, because it was worn out and causing an uneven wear in my tires , but back then I didn't have the time to leave it and said I would bring back. I ended up taking it to my friend's repair shop, because the dealership wouldn't answer the phone or my emails during the pandemic, and solved the issue. When I was back at Douglas this time, and after my car was inspected, Brian brought to my attention that the arms needed to be replaced, to which I responded that I had already done so. I told him I was very surprised and would text my mechanic right away to find out what happened. A couple minutes later, he came to the lounge area and changed the story, he said that the arms were replaced indeed, but that they were wearing out again. So, the arms were good for years, and then I need to replace them once again after 7 months of use. Really??!! That same day I was also told to replace the rotors and pads, I asked them to change the pads only and Brian said that wasn't possible because my rotors were rusty. Days later there was a snowstorm and my new rotors were covered in rust - I asked a friend about it and he said it is completely normal to have rusty rotors and that they only need to be replaced when they're giving you trouble, which of course wasn't my case. So, I probably shelled out almost $600 for a brake job that wasn't even needed, not to mention that they told me I would have to wait about 2 - 2.5 hours and it took them 3.5. I'm truly disappointed about this place and I'm never bringing my car again, or buying a new one at their dealership. They lost me. read more

When asking about the different trims he was able to rattle off the differences and couldn't have been more helpful and professional. In today's times of chip shortages, it is MSRP however they don't charge all the bs extra fees and was very straightforward buying. Also worked with Lou closing the transaction and he was well prepared and ready for me to sign the documents and get me out in my new Atlas. Everything went smoothly during my first visit to Douglas VW. I bought a low miles 2019 Golf Alltrack at a non-VW dealer and wanted to get the oil changed and have the car looked over. I also mentioned a strange noise I was hearing from the rear. Dominic, the service advisor, had the car checked out and it turns out they were able to diagnose it and help me schedule it for a warranty repair at a future date. The oil change was fine, of course. Everyone was friendly, and I'll be glad to return in the future. I typically do my own maintenance, but the oil change is not expensive, so it may make sense to simply take it back here in the future to save time. read more

There are plenty of other great dealerships who would love your business. If you do end up using this dealership, it's imperative you read your contract and take your time signing. They rushed me to sign saying "it's all the usual contract stuff" only to call me back 3 times to resign my contract. When my bill came, SURPRISE! My monthly payment changed from the agreed number. The sales men say that Lou in finance is old and loosing his wit. Why in the world would they have an old man loosing his marbles be in charge of contracts!!??? I love being asked to spend money to go to a dealership and sit in the showroom for three hours completely ignored by the bearded sales jerk who didn't even want to try to sell me what I wanted to spend my hard earned money to buy. I'm seriously hating the thought that I was convinced to do that twice. Your sales staff is hurting your business by being completely unwilling to work with the customers and use the information and documents they provide. The secrecy between your sales reps and the finance guys and keeping conversations and information about the customer private is concerning and aggravating. Clearly to stating the finance obligations to your customers is necessary to save them time and money visiting a dealership with a horrible reputation. I had been trying to land an ID.4 for a couple months. I'd called every VW dealer in NJ to get on their lists! One day while I was still in bed I receive a text saying there are going to be three available but that I had to call in now! As soon as I saw the message, I called James to hopefully snag one. He was still on his way into work, but he only had two left. The Kings Red w/Gradient had already been claimed. Thankfully I had always been partial to the blue and did not consider the Gradient package worth the extra $1500. Once he got in I put my $500 deposit down. I asked if there were going to be "market adjustments" and he said there wouldn't be. I was a bit skeptical about this, as I had recently walked out of a nearby Hyundai dealer after seeing an $8k markup on a Kona EV. I was told it would be about a week and a half for it to come in. A couple days later I get a text saying it was coming in the next day! Way ahead of schedule. I would be able to get it on that Friday. The experience at the dealer was very pleasant. I had to wait a bit for the car to charge but thankfully I wasn't in a hurry. James was as pleasant to deal with in reality as he was on the phone and the finance guy was not skeevy like the one I'd dealt with when I got my Toyota three years ago. It was good when I was driving through Summit everyday and could just stop by to schedule a service appointment, but now when I don't.. the receptionist connects me to my service guy, I leave a message, and no one ever calls me back!
