This review is for their buffet restaurant only. We were here on a Friday for lunch and had the entire buffet restaurant facing the horse course reserved for corporate event. The staff was friendly and courteous. Someone came to me as soon as I found my table and asked me for drinks, They have limited Pepsi options but no coke. The buffet lunch had many options including - salad, sea food, sushi, friend chicken, steak etc..There were multiple options for deserts too including cream filled cannoli. Most food items tasted good and above average for a buffet restaurant. The staff was prompt and always available. We had good fun. Right in the middle of town. My first time here and I'm impressed. Placed in the middle of the city, I arrived late night and slight difficulty trying to figure out where to park. Parking lot signage isn't well lit and there were temporary barriers all over the place. After getting a spot, I walked in and was impressed by the large greeting area. They had already set up a beautiful Christmas tree that people were admiring. In the vicinity, is also an upscale shopping area. Now the place is broken up into a casino and adjoining hotel. I've never stepped into the hotel but judging from the outside it's easily over 400+ rooms. There's a nice club here and in that night a pretty good band. The dance floor was packed and so was the bar. The gaming floor is large. I really liked the set up. All the pits were next to each other and fairly large. This is the largest casino gaming wise I have seen so far in the East coast minus Groton. I know you read the Mohegan Sun review. Dealers were friendly and so were the bosses. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves with the occasional "I can't believe the dealer did that?!?!?", moans. Overall three stars. Place is well maintained and people friendly. Room was clean and quiet. I wasn't crazy about the check in where they make you wait since you can't get in early without a fee. I had to wait on line for about 10-15 minutes in order to check in. I find this bad customer service since they make it costly to check in early. Don't waste your money on the slots. We played poker and the machine miraculously got a better had every single time. Didn't hear or see anyone win anything substantial in the two days we were there. Just a lot of zombies sitting alone playing the slots, losing every time. If no one ever wins anything, they won't go anymore. The algorithm of those slot machines must be made to make winning anything nearly impossible. I didn't even get an extra buck out of them. We didn't play much as a result. Food choices were not too great. No vegetarian options and all overpriced. I think they remodeled the hotel so the rooms seem nicer than past reviews state. But NO Microwaves! That caused us to cancel our second night and stay elsewhere. We want to heat up our leftovers. Probably will never go back. read more

I'm giving this place 1 star because at least it was clean. From closing down a full table at 1:30am, to false advertising. This place looks great if you look at the website images. The pool looks amazing and it has amenities like a day spa. Totally different story when you arrive, from the pool being close now and looking nothing like the image, to the spa being closed down for months. Even the front at the building list all these nice things, but I guess false advertising doesn't exist in Dover DE. I planned a trip here for my Mom & Uncle's 70th Birthday celebration to include 36 family members to stay over night at the hotel and dinner at the Sugar Factory. I made arrangements thru my so called Casino Host for the hotel part months in advance and everything was completely wrong it took an hour to get me checked in and same with the Sugar Factory. it was very disappointing as we LOVE this casino on a normal basis and my mom drove all the way from Myrtle Beach SC to spend her Birthday here. read more

I would give this hotel experience 2.5 as it was just ok for me. I stayed here for two nights and I must say I was soo glad to get home and sleep in my own bed!! I liked that the hotel offered plenty of parking, I ended up getting a spot very close to the hotel. When I checked in, the staff was nice but seemed very inexperienced about their job. The lady asked for my debit card to put a hold on the room and without me realizing she even charged me for my two nights upfront without my authorization! Then when I told her I wanted to pay in cash they told me I had to wait until the next morning ( ughh) So the next morning I asked them to reverse the charges so I can pay in cash and they acted like they didn't want to do it! Overall I ended up having to call my bank and they immediately removed the charges from my account! Hahaha meanwhile the lady staring at me like a dear in headlights! (and I sighs) So after that fiasco was over I felt much better however I wasn't that impressed by my room, although it was spacious and offered great amenities, the bathroom to me could of used some remodeling. I don't know if it was me but my shower had two heads the handheld and the regular and for some reason the water only worked from the handheld that was in the corner of the shower ughh and the water came out so hard! and I can't forget that my hotel room carpet had stains on it! Now let's get into the casino, so the hotel offers a casino and I liked that the entire casino was smoke free and the machines and area was neat and clean!! However I didn't like that the casino didn't really have a good variety of dining options, I just wasn't impressed by any of the restaurants they had to offer plus the food was on the pricey side. I would give this hotel a zero or negative number if I could. I've stayed in two different room and both have smelled like cigarette smoke horribly even though the room has a sign saying not to smoke. I called and complained they said someone would come up with a machine and I had to be out of room for 30min. I waiting an hour no one ever came. I called back and complained again and they finally sent someone with a machine to "clean" the air in the room. The room still smelled and was a mix of smoke and chemical now. The room was not vacuumed because there is crumbs on the floor and toe nail clippings. It's ABSOLUTELY disgusting!!! I would NEVER chose to stay at this hotel again. Seriously what kind of housekeeping is done here. Very upset at my choice to stay here. Will not be returning after this visit. read more

Been coming here regularly for the past 6 years. Wife and I smoke. Never a problem as they did have 2 small smoking sections or we just went inside and played. We're not THAT addicted. Bally's added a large expansion to the one smoking section. They now advertise that they have the largest outdoor gaming area in Delaware.They actually do have the largest. However, whover was involved in the planning or budgeting for this expansion decided to leave out a few items. You have a large contingent of elderly and disabled that use the smoking sections. When they did the expansion, they did not add any heating or air conditioning in the area. They had to bring in spot coolers over the summer because it was baking in the section. Now that it is winter, people are bundling up and carrying blankets around to stay somewhat warm. Don't know why they decided against adding at least some HVAC in the area. We have been to LIVE in Baltimore and never had an issue in the summer or the winter in their smoking section. Seems like they want the money to keep coming in but did not want to expend the money for customers comfort. read more

This venue is NOT accommodating to minorities, especially younger ones. Although I am a 30-year-old woman, I am very small and look about 18. I felt racially profiled from the moment I began I loading my bags. I am a wealthy attorney from the south, traveling for a family funeral and the racism experienced *here* pales in comparison to that of the south. I've traveled the world and never been met with the hostility experienced within the first 15 minutes of being here. We have been going to Dover Downs for years. Now that Bally's has taken over it's just not as much fun anymore. They have hiked up the amounts to play using the slots and payouts are low. For. Saturday night the crowds were small and restaurants full which tells you the gambling is not going well for anyone. read more

I wish there were something good I can tell you about this place but unfortunately I can't think of one thing. From the moment we checked in and paid an additional $50 charge to check in early, to no cleaning service. When we checked into our room, they gave us two towels for two adults. We left the room the following day to visit relatives, and when we came back, it had not been cleaned. When we called the front desk, they told us that's not common practice unless requested. We asked if they could please make up the room. We returned three hours later to find an uncleaned room and no clean towels. We called again and the evening person told us you spoke with the day person not me. Today is day three and our room has still not been cleaned because the housekeeper wasn't feeling well. The restaurants and hospitality staff is severely understaffed. The coffee shop could not provide cappuccino's or latte's because the machine was broken. The casino had very few table games open and you were limited to black Jack and roulette during the afternoon. read more

We decided to stay here even though we didn't plan on gambling because of the convenience of not having to leave the hotel if we needed anything. We weren't disappointed. The check in process was seamless, even if the line to check in was quite long, taking almost a half an hour to get through. There were only 2 staff members checking people in, which seemed odd because CLEARLY it was a popular destination, but they worked quickly to move the line along. The room was stunning and very comfortable, especially for being one of the cheaper places to stay in the area. Breakfast is NOT included, but the Sugar Factory located within, offers a really good breakfast. Yeah, it's a bit more than going to a diner, but it IS the Sugar Factory. There is a coffee maker in the room with Lavazza coffee, so it's good, but I like real creamer and not that powdered stuff in a packet. I DID notice as we were checking out, there is a coffee vending machine in the lobby that makes lattes and espresso. The casino is HUGE and is full of mostly slots. Parking is the reason I didn't give it 5 stars. It's a HUGE parking lot, that fills up after check in time with not enough handicapped parking spots located near the hotel entrance. read more

I love Dover Downs when they were one of the only casinos around Virginia and I still love here the best till this day. The casino is all non-smoking so the air in the casino smells good and clean. The tables, machines, and chairs are not nasty from cigarette ash which I love being a non-smoker. The casino staff and hosts are very friendly and make me enjoy playing whether I win or lose money. The parking is plentiful unless it is Race weekend which I experienced having to pay for parking. Most times it is easy to find close parking and parking is free. Casino has table games, slots, poker(live and video), horseracing, sportsbook, and much more. There are free drink stations that you can help yourself to soft drinks and water, and cocktail hostesses that are around to serve you alcoholic drinks and specialty drinks. I usually play Craps here and I love that they are not too busy and I can always find a spot on the table to play. I've been trying to get a comped room here but unfortunately haven't been able to with my work schedule and the busy weekends. But overall, I love this casino and have loved staying at their hotel as well too. read more

But being harassed by a smelly homeless man kept the night interesting. He followed us from the bar and all around just because when we first arrived I gave him $5.00 because he was panhandling and looked like he needed it. Big mistake on my part. I used to love coming herewith my mom and her seniors citizens crew before COVID. So mom and I decided to come here since we knew what to expect. I did read that some things were unavailable like the gym and pool. I saw they had a few new restaurants also. Well when we got here we noticed that the casino has new times. That's cool. I wanted coffee and sweet perks near in the lobby is closed. So I had to get coffee at another place I. The casino. . It was good but high priced. So we got hungry and didn't feel like driving. We went to Sugar something this new restaurant. Over priced and over cooked hard chicken, Watch your dental work. So the room was nice and clean. Thank goodness. They did have us near the garbage compactor outside and we had to hear that several times during the night which is annoying. We never stayed in a room heAring that. So we went out for the day and return to our room and it was not refreshed. I called housekeeping and they informed me that they don't refresh the room until you check out. Really. So I asked for new towels, cups and coffee. They spent a guy up with a huge bag with stuff I requested. This new way of life is different. Later the next day I notice the hot water knob fell off so I had to call for them to fix it, they did. But the number one issue I had was at 1am the toilet would not flush. The handle stopped working. I called for maintenance. They said someone was on the way. No body came. My mom had to go in a bag because the toilet wouldn't flush. So I got up at 6am and called the front desk again. This time guy comes up with a plunger. That's not what I needed but that's what they told him. I went to the buffet for the Christmas feast only because Hollywood Casino in Charlestown, WV (the absolute best outside of Atlantic City in this region) was closed on this day. The shark was undercooked. The fried chick was undercooked. No boiled shrimp. Their version of fried shrimp are extremely petitie popcorn shrimp. My brother laughed at the sushi as the person rolling it didn't know what they were doing but they tried their best. I think next year I will just have to drive the extra 1.5 hours to Atlantic City and eat at Borgata. The sweet tea was the only good thing offered this day. They didn't even have stuffing/dressing to go with the dried turkey:( I'm still trying to figure out why this place is AAA-4 diamonds. They advertise a multitude of restaurants including a buffet. We aren't gamblers but enjoy casino buffets. Their billboards on the highway advertised multiple eateries so imagine our disappointment of entering the casino, snaking our way through the slot machines to the furthest recesses of the casino only to be told the buffet permanently closed a while back, yet there are still signs pointing to where it used to be. Have been going to Dover Downs for years with great experiences. Even hosted a nice private event in their conference center; excellent catered buffet. But lately there are some serious negatives. Some of the hotel checkin staff are rude and have bad attitudes (mainly the male ones). Asked one for front facing room, he said ok. Got to room and it faces back. We booked through Travelocity which listed terrific amenities and photos made it look like (and referred to it as) a LUXURY hotel. In reality, it is on the side of the road with our view from our "upgraded" 10th floor room being that of the shopping center across the street and parking lot.SIMPLY PUT: Health concerns prevented us from enjoying BASICS that EVERY decent hotel has!!!!!!!!!!! The website and everything else promoting this "hotel and casino" as luxurious on website (jacuzzi and pool......both of which were incredibly FILTHY......not just dirty but YEARS of neglect were clear from the pictures you can see the LITERAL RING AROUND THE TUB!!!!!! The "jacuzzi" was the size of a regular bathtub so it would be an extremely intimate experience if you DARED to go in but honestly, it was all FOAMY from people using it as their personal cleansing bathtub and/or no cleaning/maintenance. My sister and I LITERALLY would not even put our FEET in it to see how it felt !!!! We wanted to swim but the pool was only 3 feet (no big deal there) but it was SMALL - the size a jacuzzi should be, lol..........and it was DIIIIIIIIIIIRTY- again - years of neglect: MOLDY!!!!! I honestly do not know how they stay open due to the HEALTH VIOLATIONS!!!!!! The buffet made BOTH my sister and I SICK so that HAD to be from the awful food (animals were fighting over crab legs that were dry tasting and since no crackers were given you had to use your hands like a caveman !!!!!) The gym that smelled of cat spray (of all things, oddly enough???) prevented us from our daily workout. REPULSIVE! Again, if we KNEW the hotel was so horrendous I would have booked us at the Hilton across the street where we are members of HiltonHonors and even so.......thinking about it, the poorly lit dangerous parking lot and clientele would not even make it worth it.We will NEVER return; in fact we are embroiled in a battle to get a refund or at least reduction due to the fact that we were not able to use the jacuzzi, pool or gym (FILTH!!!). We were absolutely horrified upon pulling up and seeing that this was an outdated, filthy building among TJ Maxx, Target, Super Cuts, etc. and MOST IMPORTANTLY- do NOT risk your health and safety. That's the bottom line. If we lived closer I don't think I'd even go! It is really that bad. I will say one nice thing: they have one good machine that my sis and I had a ball with and we had a good laugh about the fact that it was SOOOOOOOOO bad..... we just had to laugh! It is so dirty and the best part (SARCASM dripping off that word "best") was that upon checkout, the "supervisor" of the desk (whatever that means) was NASTY when we simply asked for our folio (bill broken down). She simply took out a calculator and showed us 209 (advertised price) plus taxes plus $50 incidentals fee. She said "you ain't got no incidentals so that will fall off" ........ well we shall see if that happens. I doubt it. My sister is writing to the DE department of health and to the board or CFO- trying that hard because it was THAT bad........ I can't believe this joint is still operating !!!!!! I just don't know what's going on at this place anymore. Recently, The Sheraton had closed and sold their reservations to Dover Downs. They must have transferred some of their employees and crappy ways of doing business there too. There was staff at the hotel desk who didn't know what they were doing. When you stay at the hotel as an elite member you are giving drink tickets to the lounge. After checking in we had to go to see a casino host to confirm we were eligible for the tickets. Then we had to return to the desk to receive the tickets. Upon returning to the hotel desk I witnessed another staff member hand over drink tickets immediately after another guest checked in. I was about to go ape sh*t on these girls. My prior visit to last night I was swimming with wifey and my parents. We go to the pool at 8pm and there were no towels at all. We had to call the desk for towels. They close the doors at 10pm and we knew this. We were out of the pool and changing our clothes when at 10 o'clock sharp a few members of the staff came in and rudely told us to hurry up and leave. My father and I were standing outside the women's locker room waiting for my wife and Mom to come out. We could not believe how ignorant these a-holes were. There was a male rent-a-cop there and he had the audacity to ask if there were any more females in the locker room when my mom and wife came out. His tone was quite ignorant and I told him to figure it out himself. read more

Standard. Nothing shiny. Casino is okay. Nothing stands out too much, plus I found myself wishing they had more options. The space is fairly large, but it was not overwhelming. The buffet is great, but after hours the food choices are not that great. The front area is nice and the staff is a mix of helpful and indifferent. Poker Room: Spacious and plenty of games, although it was all $1-$2 even on a Saturday. The dealers were pretty good and since the alcohol is not free there are fewer drunks. Main Floor: Plenty of slots and a batch of table games. Minimums were less then Charlestown. Be aware of Bay Bridge traffic in the summer since that is a bottleneck and you can wait a long time if you go Friday/Saturday, To bad the alcohol wasn't comped and it was pretty cold inside but otherwise its a good little spot with more to do then WV and much closer then AC. read more

I liked Dover Downs Hotel and Casino because it's a nice conference center without being huge-- it's not ultra plush or a luxury resort, but a nice hotel at a casino. Comparing it to the local resort and convention center at National Harbor, it's a reasonable size as the Gaylord at Nation Harbor is ridiculously BIG. You have to trek a mile to get the the check in counter. Ask about the nearest bathroom, they'll tell you downstairs and across a football field. Here at Dover Downs, it's spacious, but everything is in a decent proximity. The rooms are between really nice and standard. The rooms are currently smoke free, but it's obvious from the smell embedded in the walls and carpet that it was formerly a hotel that allowed smoking. The hotel is aging a bit, but it's still comfortable. I had great sleep. Dover Downs is also located on a strip that has everything from Friday's to Ruby Tuesdays, Noodles and Company, Olive Garden, Coldstone Ice cream and more. I didn't visit the shops at the hotel and casino, but there are plenty of stores around to suit your needs. I'm not a casino person, but I will be back if I'm offered to go. read more

I stayed overnight at the Dover Downs Hotel & Casino on March 24th for a food show. Since I booked my reservation at the last minute I almost didn't get a room, but the woman in reservations helped me get a room (and I got the group rate for being part of the food show!). This is a great hotel for business purposes. My hotel room was huge and included the most comfortable bedding, free WIFI, flat screen t.v., desk, and a huge spa-like bathroom with luxurious toiletries. The room was very soundproof and I slept like a baby that night. The following morning I was able to make my way downstairs for breakfast and I ordered a coffee, breakfast sandwich, and a fruit cup for under $10 at Sweet Perks Cafe. (Since I did not have a car I was very grateful to have this cafe onsite so that I did not have to eat from a mediocre buffet or pay $25+ for room service.) My only complaint was that although the bath towels in my room felt heavenly they left lint EVERYWHERE. I had lint on my skin, in my hair, all over my clothes... it was a complete mess! The room was large and clean and the sleets weren't cringeworthy. The casino was popular with a variety of people of all ages, genders and races. I find it disheartening that the most racially diverse place I've visited in months is a loud bastion of clanks and clangs which visit luck to few and tragedy to many. The breakfast foods lacked quality I am used to in foodie capital PDX. The bagels lacked tooth and the. Breakfast pastries. Looked Costco ish.
