I ordered the brisket hash which was brisket burnt ends, crispy potatoes, chipotle aioli, queso fresco, peppers, two sunnyside up eggs and fluffy thick Texas toast. The bartender told me to try the house made spicy chili oil and it definitely added more flavor to the already flavorful hash. I came by on a very rainy Saturday which may be the only reason there wasn't a long wait. There was a short wait for tables but things moved quickly. The interior is decorated like an old time diner. the staff are all really nice. Most of the seating is up against the shared booth although there's some table spots for large parties. We didn't get drinks but they had a wide selection of creative cocktails, most of them Mexican themed. The food was alright. It's mostly elevated brunch diner takes. The chicken fried chicken was absolutely massive but also extremely salty. It came with crunch but the dish managed to be both salty and bland. Portions across the board are huge and easily shareable for two people. Doves is a very cute diner in wicker. I'm glad I tried it but not sure if I'd come back. read more

When it arrived, the presentation was nice but the bread was burned to a charcoal black. I felt that overall the dish lacked the flavor I'd hoped for, and that the salsa was too watery to serve as a primary source of seasoning. The staff was friendly enough, but did not give a compulsory ask about my experience or question why less than half of the dish was eaten by the end of the meal. Other menu items looked intriguing, so I may give Dove's another try down the road and update accordingly. In the meantime, I recommend ordering another dish and hope that some of the points mentioned above are addressed. read more

The hash comes with toast but in retorespect, I would've opted for some tortillas to make some delicious tacos. Would strongly recommend and be sure to use some of their chili oil and hot sauce. The brisket is decadent and the vinegar based hot sauce does a perfect job pairing with the richness of the brisket. I've been to Dove's many many times. And I've recommended it to friends coming to Chicago. The ambiance, service, food have been consistent every time. My last visit we were taken care of by Miranda and I brought my family. She was attentive, and accommodating since we asked to be moved to one of their center tables. Dove's is not the best for a large group. It's small and cozy. My boyfriend and I love sitting at their bar, right by the record player. Dove's is a staple for me. I no longer live in Chicago but I try to stop by every time I'm in town. This last time felt a bit different, it felt busier and more popular, I guess. But I also went on a Sunday summer morning. The farmer's market sets up right next door in the Wicker Park - you can stop by before or after brunch. Food is on the heavy side, some of the menu items change and they make sure to top off your coffee. One thing - I do not like the masa pancakes...and the mole spiced syrup that comes with it is also a miss. The waiter brings out the pozole in a GIANT bowl the size of my head which I thought was crazy (there was more bowl than the soup). I think I would prefer a smaller bowl because it made eating a bit difficult. It comes with toppings - tortilla chips, avocados, lettuce, radishes, and lime. Honestly, this was just ok. Yes it did fulfill my craving of something warm but it was just lacking flavor. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt hence my score because their other menu items look absolutely delicious. There's only also a few tables and mostly bar seating, so I wouldn't recommend this as a good spot for larger groups. Once we sat down and ordered, we waited some more - our food took about 45 minutes to come out. The brisket was super tender, and I love the crispy smashed potatoes. The portions are pretty big here, so come hungry. Overall the food is great, but service was extremely slow.
