BEWARE OF THEIR WEIGHTS AND MEASURES / SCALES. It pains me wrote this review. We first visited Down on the Farm Creamery when we spent a weekend in Lancaster county. The place is so beautiful, serene and quaint. As many others have mentioned, they have an area where you can hang and relax and see the cute farm animals - really lovely. My husband recently took a solo day trip and returned to the creamery for some butter, ice cream - really delicious and loved it on our first trip. He got the butter again - the label read $6.80 per lb which is fine. The block of butter says it weighs just under 2 lbs, making it $13.26 in total. To me, the weighed was slightly suspicious and upon getting my hands on it, I decided to use my 2 different food scales to weigh it (including wrapping). As you can see, the block of butter weighs 1.15 and not 1.95. So they are not being truthful about their weights and measures! That really is just pretty awful in itself, therefore I cannot give them more than 2 stars. The quality of the items is great. The service is fine - they're nice and courteous. And I will GLADLY always pay for quality items and services. But I CANNOT get over this rip off. Won't be returning. read more

The vibes here are impeccable. We literally visited twice in one day, lol. Here's why: + Fantastic ice cream. Creamy, rich perfection. I tried cookie dough and strawberry and both were fab. + More than just ice cream - you can find ices, iced coffee and a variety of other dairy products in the store. I took home some garlic chive cheddar cheese and it was deliciousness. + An amazing place for kids. Ice cream alone will do the trick, but you can also find a fun play area with a wooden ship, railroad and swing set plus farm animals to feed. + The grounds are gorgeous with lots of areas to sit and fresh flowers. At sundown it's pure perfection, we got some gorgeous sunset views over the fields. This was a huge highlight of our visit to Lancaster, and will be a must if I go back. read more

A few minutes down from the Strasburg Railroad Depot is Down on the Farm Creamery! Bring the Lactaid -- this Amish run shop is dishing out some of the creamiest, richest, ice cream I have had in my entire life! We came for the ice cream, but ended up staying over an hour because my children loved their huge rainbow model train playground that they had outside the parking lot. There is also a petting zoo full of dozens of baby billy goats, pigs, and cows. I would have paid $30 per person (cry) for an experience like this back at home but all this extra fun was free 99. It is SO FRESH and delicious, nothing like any that we have EVER had before. My favorite is the cookie dough ice cream and Java. I can say that this place has the BEST ice cream that I've had in my 38 years of living. (No exaggerations). The people that work here (might be a family that owns it?) are very pleasant. There are not enough compliments in the world to give this place. It is one of the most beautiful farms I've ever been to - immaculately clean and orderly and so homey. There's puppies, goats, a playground, plenty of seating, horses, cows, a beautiful garden, and of course the most delicious ice cream. WOW I wish this creamery was moved right into my backyard. I could have this ice cream all day - so creamy and well priced - about $4 for a double scoop. How they're handling takeout: You're able to drive right up the counter and order ice cream (like a drive through service). Atmosphere: There's also outdoor seating with umbrellas set up, right outside of the store. In the store - there's a range of baked goods (whoopie pies), milk, and cheeses (along with a few cheese samples). The store is set up at the end of a road - worth the trip though. Food: I wish I could come here all the time. I particularly loved the strawberry ice cream, which isn't usually my first pick because some strawberry flavors taste artificial to me. This strawberry tasted incredibly creamy and like actual strawberries. Of course, I also ordered chocolate and peanut butter swirl - what an incredible combination. The scoops they provide are very large, and their waffle cones are freshly made (we watched a few getting made as we were waiting for our ice cream). So crispy!
