Went here for early dinner before the show in Sight and Sound. Food was fresh and delicious. I had the slow roasted beef with the homestyle butter noodles. He had the special with the beef sandwich and french fries. Dessert was delicious. Ice cream so creamy and not too sweet! Service was pretty good! The place was so packed and people were waiting, so we sat at the counter. The people were nice and scooted over to give room for me and my bf. The restaurant had a friendly and homely vibe. This was a very busy place, but we didn't mind the wait to experience an Amish meal. I ordered the Homestyle Butter Noodles served with slow roasted beef on top. I chose not to have the stews tomatoes on top. The beef was so flavorful and tender. I really loved the noodles. They were thick and cooked perfectly and had a great taste. My husband ordered the Hot Slow Roasted Turkey and he said it tasted so fresh and was tender. He ordered the side of noodles and also thought they were very good. We went on Saturday 3:30 pm, there was a 25 minute wait, which was on point. But totally worth the wait. Had an all female staff and believe overheard it was ran by all females as well. Service was quick. Food was delicious, warm homemade rolls with their home made peanut butter spread was complimentary but truly was a foreshadowing for the meal! I ordered the open face roast beef with mashed potatoes with gravy and Mac and cheese-- all delicious. My significant other order the wings-- super crispy and well sauced. Our children got the hot dog and chicken fingers. For dessert we tried the apple dumpling it came out steaming hot with homemade ice cream. We are back in Lancaster and Katie's Kitchen is a must stop for us. When we walked in I was so glad we did not have to wait. The service is always great! I ordered the Western Omelette with your choice of bread. I'm thankful they offer gluten free toast and it was really good. Plus, You must try their strawberry jam on your table. It is so good! My husband order the Southern Omelette and added crispy bacon with the sausage gravy. He ask to try a sample of each gravy and they were both really good. What a great mom and pop Amish diner. Came here for breakfast one morning and was not disappointed. Now the place gets crowded, so expect to wait. But once your seated the food comes out rather fast and is tasty. Everything we got was very good and had a slightly different take on traditional breakfast food. The sausage gravy was good and had a slight lemon zest taste. I also enjoyed the eggs and cornbeef hash. Kids enjoyed the pancakes and the coffee was nice and fresh. Service was fast and friendly. This was the recommended place by the restaurant we were trying to get takeout but they were too busy for takeout orders. Also finding great reviews, I decided to come here to order takeout. Upon arrival, the place was also packed. I the place has a diner feel and is worked by a group of Amish young women. I was directed to the cashier counter to place takeout order. The gal was little frazzled but was friendly and eager to help. I placed a to go order for chicken salad sandwich, tuna salad sandwich, grilled haddock, meatloaf meal & a slice of carrot cake. Overall service is great and food was amazing. The only complaint was that in the midst of hurry, I discovered that my carrot cake was charged but was not packed. We loved the Amish young ladies who served us. Unfortunately we did not love the food. Obviously many people did because of the number of people waiting for a table. I've been coming to the Lancaster area for several years and I have tried multiple Amish cooking Buffett. I always thought that Amish food was bad but I was sure because because Buffetts are famous for offering fast low quality food. So this time I decided to try Amish food at a restaurant hoping to find better quality Amish food .... So we came to Katie's kitchen. As a result we confirmed that Amish food is terrible everywhere !! Unfortunately Amish was not better than a Buffett, in fact it was worse as the price was comparable to a Buffett but with more limited options. So we are certainly not coming back. By the way, the reason why I still gave it 2 stars and not one is because the peanut butter spread and the ice cream was really good !!! All the rest of the food not good at all. Chicken was dry, pasta was soggy, pasta sauce over the beef stew seemed like taken out of a can, shrimp was disappointing .... Very sad experience. read more

Awesome dining experience! We ordered our wraps prior to visiting the Strasbourg Railroad. It was about 5 minutes from the railroad. Great variety of options to chose from on the menu. We had the bbq beef wrap and the chicken cheese steak. Both were flavorful, delicious and reasonably priced. There was about a 45 minutes wait to get a table. The staff were very friendly as well! It is a sit down restaurant. Nice, friendly, and clean. Service was relatively quick - we didn't experience the wait time like other reviews - we did go in around 4:30pm. The food was ok - personally the food was too sweet for most of us but we went for the experience. I thought it wasn't anything super different from American food. I think their home made pies are something to try - the crust and crumble on their pies are a little different from typical American style pies - may be a little more dry and crumbly??. Very nice place to visit if you are in Amish country and like the idea of a restaurant run by Amish. Everyone was very nice and service was quite good. There was a wait time, even though it was somewhat past peak lunch, so be ready to wait. Most patrons are tourists or local non-Amish. The meal was good; the best part being that the noodles were homemade. If you like soft homemade noodle texture you will like that. Most menu options are not classic Pennsylvania Dutch however. My son got a hamburger with fries. Not everything is in-house; the ketchup was a Sysco product. My favorite part was the lovely items for sale along the walls, including many clothing items. The prices were very reasonable, not the inflated specialty shop prices but something you can pay if you like traditional clothes. They also have lots of girls' clothes and t-shirts. A few books and home decor, all of it at a sensible price. Checking it out is a good way to spend your wait time. I am very glad we went. Staff is friendly, but don't expect casual conversation or small talk. The Amish live a "separate life." I'm cool with that. We ate there twice...first dinner, then breakfast. Dinner wasn't bad, but I eat very simply by choice. I was psyched for the stewed tomatoes, because these bring back a fond memory for me as a child. They weren't as expected, but is this the Amish way of cooking? I don't know. Breakfast consisted of a vegetable omelet with cinnamon raisin bread. I don't eat eggs, but I will make an exception for an omelet. What surprised me was that the omelet wasn't browned and the vegetables were not cut or diced into small pieces...green pepper slices and sliced tomatoes. Onion chunks the size of my thumbnail. Why do I think this was a microwaved dish? The cinnamon raisin bread was not locally baked. Just pick up a bag at Giant or Weis. This may be unfair, but I think people give the Amish the benefit of the doubt because they are a unique people. People are going to tiptoe around them when they write reviews. We arrived at the restaurant and was told it would be a 55 minute wait. We are from Roanoke VA and Katie's was highly recommended. We waited and noticed that customers that had arrived after us were being seated. We inquired how much longer our wait would be when a table of 3 that arrived after us was also seated. We were told 15 minutes. They then seated a party of 2 that had arrived some time after us and were seated in a booth. I asked the hostess if they could seat a party of 2 in the booth that could seat 4, why couldn't they seat the 3 of us that had been waiting. She did not reply. I experienced racism that I could not believe right in my face by a person dressed as Amish. We were the only people of color in the restaurant and we had no choice but to leave! Tried out lunch this time. This place is hopping on a Saturday at noon! We were able to get a table for 7 within 30 minutes of arriving which is impressive. Everyone is so polite. Food menu has a lot to pick from. The burger buns are a little on the bready side since they are handmade and Dutch style rather than the brioche we are all used to. I'm am here on vacation and we stopped after visiting Amish country. The restaurant was very busy but our wait time was about 20 minutes. The food was amazing I ordered a grilled turkey sandwich with homemade chips. The sandwich has this amazing honey mustard sauce that is so delicious. The restaurant is very clean and they take great care cleaning all surfaces after each group. The service was excellent and the server was so cheerful and sweet.
