We eat out alot and travel all over. This was the single worst experience we have ever had. Not one person in our party touched their food. It looked like it was sitting in the walk in for days. An ice cream sized scoop of gelatinous, cold chicken nestled in week old greens and a clear film on the tahtziki. Disgusting. It took 45 minutes for a series of cold plated mush to hit the table. My girlfriend and I decided to pick a new place for dinner tonight and had heard great things about Downtown Social. We had stopped in briefly once but wanted to go for an entire meal and a relaxing evening. We were first impressed by the ease of online reservations. We were able to reserve a table for 6:00 and were very impressed by the questions that came along with reserving online through an app called Open Table via Downtown Social's website. For example, one of the questions was regarding what we wanted in a table, and we requested that it be away from live music if there was any scheduled. Upon arriving we were escorted to the Bourbon Room, a quieter part of the restaurant, and the part the hostess knew to take us to after seeing the special request listed in our online reservation. After settling in a friendly man named Dan came over and chatted about the specials and gave excellent recommendations for both food and drink. He was honest with his suggestions, which is extremely important for my indecisive girlfriend, who can pick multiple items on a menu and agonize over what to choose. Dan gave an excellent suggestion of the delicious salad we had as an appetizer, and our meals to follow. His partner in crime was a man named Max, who was just as attentive and personable. Those two worked seamlessly together and took care of both the bar and the tables of patrons in a succinct fashion. They were never overbearing and extremely attentive. The food was amazing. I had the salmon burger and my girlfriend had the chicken Philly. They were cooked to perfection and we were pleased that they were perfectly portioned and not the oversized portions seen at most other restaurants. We had room left for dessert and an after dinner drink. This was the perfect dinner and ambiance for a relaxing Saturday downtown. We will surely be back to visit Dan, Max, and the tasty menu. Had a terrible experience here for dinner. We were not greeted until almost 10 minutes after we sat down at the bar, and then our greeting was "You all set?" as if we were leaving? The steak was over cooked and dry, our salad came with wilted lettuce, and the drinks were syrupy. Multiple bartenders walked by us and no one stopped to ask how our food or drinks were. This review is not based on the actual place or the food. It's for the overall vibe that I've gotten on two different occasions from the owner? Manager? My first experience was on a Wednesday Take A Bite event. I was very excited to take a look inside as I'd been eagerly awaiting the opening of this new spot. The owners were at the front door and I told them how nice it looked. When I asked if they had a happy hour, they said no as if I'd offended them. If every place in Saratoga offers them, I hardly think DS is too good for them. Then me and my friends went in after the balloon festival and even tho there were several open tables inside and outside, we were told-not in a very friendly way-that we couldn't be seated and that the wait was 45 minutes. He even said we couldn't just try the bar for drinks. When we mentioned the open tables, he said "that's not how it works." Lol. Maybe you need to hire more people then. Ironically enough, the bar in the back-which if I'm not mistaken, is part of the same restaurant-was completely dead. Why not offer us a table there? Big mistake. Oh well. A long overdue review. I was visiting the area from NYC a few weeks ago and I ate dinner at Downtown Social on a Friday night. The place was completely filled and live music was playing. An awesome vibe to the place. We stopped first to have a drink in The Bourbon Room. The cocktail list was very impressive and the bartender was very helpful in picking just the right cocktail for me. We then went into the main part of restaurant for our meal. I was with 4 other people and we all enjoyed our dinner, from appetizers to desserts. The staff were very knowledgeable and friendly. I wouldn't hesitate to go back and I will recommend to all my friends in the area. read more

While the whole bar/club is great, the Bourbon Room is the real gem of this bar. It is a quiet, relaxing room off to the back of the club where you can enjoy an amazing cocktail or spirit with a bartender that is extremely knowledgeable to the point where he can improvise amazingly. On a trip with my younger brother he asked for something "fiery." The bartender created an amazing drink that included a smoked sprig of rosemary, smooth rye, and a misting of absinthe. Decided to stop in while traveling through the area. Brisket egg rolls were good but for the price expected more than 2. Waitress had to track down my drink because she thought I had it already. ?? Ordered pulled pork sandwich. Portion was fine but the toasted bun was burnt so I ended up just eating the pork. Steak fries were seasoned but not listed that way on the menu. Again portion was fine. The other person in my party ordered the fajita bowl. Really enjoyed it. Huge portion. I'd like to think that when they can serve a full menu with no restrictions that things will improve. read more

This place is fantastic. We were visiting from Brooklyn and met friends here for dinner. The service was prompt and friendly. The food, from the chicken and waffles, to the meatloaf, to the vegan curry dish were all tasty and satisfying. They have a pretty good draft list that includes local beer. I have been there twice and will be back again soon! The food is outstanding and they have a variety that is great. They serve 'favorites' for those who are not adventurous and some slightly different for those who like a variety. The servers are great - they check with you often but never when you just put food in your mouth (I hate that how do you answer?) and not so often they are annoying. If your food takes a few minutes they keep you posted so you don't wonder if you've been forgotten. Prices are very reasonable. It is close to parking and downtown. Service was excellent, very well decorated. Food was majorly disappointing. If they're going to serve lunch and charge the same as for dinner, then the portions need to be adequate. My Caesar salad had cooked anchovies and was served in a very small bowl. They charged 7.95 for something that seemed less than a side salad. I have never had nor heard of cooked anchovies for a Caesar salad. I requested a couple changes to my order of the fried chicken sandwich, aioli instead of Russian and toasted ciabatta instead of brioche. They were very accommodating to my request. My buttermilk chicken sandwich was overcooked to the point that it was inedible and was missing an item that it should have had per the menu. The ciabatta was not toasted. I believe they used chicken thighs, the waitress graciously offered to get a new one. I was reluctant as I usually just don't ask for things to be replaced. I couldn't even cut it with a steak knife, so I took her up on the offer. The replacement was much better but the quantity was lacking. My SO didn't like the mac and cheese and wasn't thrilled with his burger. We got wings to go for my son, he didnt really like them tastewise. We did let the waitress know we were a little disappointed and she comp'd one round of drinks and an appetizer. I've been to most of the restaurants in the immediate area and their portions are adequate and appropriate for what is charged. On a positive note, our dog loved his doggie ice cream. read more

This was my first and last time there. Fairly large place but poorly ran. When you talk about basics of service such as saying Hi or Hello what can I get for you there is no such thing. We felt like getting a drink at the downstairs bar was too much of the bother. Bar attendants were busy doing anything but being polite and available. We left to check out their bourbon room. Set at the nice dark bar and waited. No one approached us. We found a menu on the bar and decided on our beverages just to find out that the bartender was wrapping up with mixed $12 drinks... I find that a bit pricey for GF .. and mentioned that due to short staff he only serving drinks from after hours menu. Excuse me? Took menu out of our hand and walked away. Ok we figured to go with a beer and get a nice stout. Well they didn't have it. Their beer selection is weak. So after all the bother and no one wanting to take our money we walked out. Big fan of downtown city tavern went last night and as usual it was packed. We were at Larac today so we thought we would give Social a try and were we glad we did. We like to order a few tapas and share. So that's what we did. We love Ban mi sandwiches so when we saw the ban mi nachos we knew we would try them they were Awesome! We also had the Mexican street corn and the grilled corn cheese and spices were excellent. We also had the lump crab cake and it was pure delight. Our waitress was excellent and she told us that the menu is totally revamped by the new chef. What great ideas and flavors the chef has created. I really liked the potato sticks with the crab cake I hope the chef will add a Cuban frita "hamburger" made with ground beef and spicy chorizo and topped with those yummy potato sticks. With all the international flavors on the menu the frita would add to the wonderful choices. Hats off to a wonderful meal and ambience! read more

Exceptionally slow service was cold when it came out. 10 minutes before drink order taken. Duck fries were not great and no dip was offered with it. One of those restaurants where chips or coleslaw come with meal not a French fry Definitely need more staff. They plated food wrong and gave to wrong people with out checking. Had a great meal here last night. Scallops were superb and the special halibut was cooked to perfection. Farm to market beets complemented the rice with the halibut. Beautiful place but inconsistent and poorly managed. I've had drinks at the bar several times. Service is ok depending on the bartender. I've had dinner here twice. I had the same dish on both occasions (vegan curry stir fry). The first time service was good and the dish was excellent. The second time the service and the dish were horrible- we had interactions/service from 4-5 different individuals. My water glass remained empty for almost the entire meal even though I was the only one at the 4 person table not drinking anything but water. The dish was basically a pile of mushrooms with little to no sauce or flavor served over tasteless rice (the first time it had an assortment of veggies including eggplant zucchini etc and was served with a light but substantial coconut milk based curry sauce). Another party member's pasta dish had little to no sauce on it either. The servers continually hounded another member of my party about being done with his meal when he wasn't. Once he was, and his dish had been pushed aside, several servers walked by leaving it on our table. Server pushed wine on tap for fourth party member as if there were no other wine options. We had to wait forever to get our check and then again for my card to be picked up (by yet another staff member). I won't return for meals here but will probably stop at the bar again. read more
