The breakfast menu looks great, but we only had donuts from the counter on our visit. We tried the chocolate, glazed and sugar and they were all good, but the sugar is the best of them. They are a cake-style donut and it is 100% better than anything from Dunkin' Well worth the visit! read more

The best coconut donut. Seriously melt in your mouth good. I only wish they were bigger. Make sure to get here early during peak summer months. Love that this place has more than just donuts so it's great for dine in. You can even get breakfast combos that come with eggs, breakfast meat and a donut. We went there yesterday for our first time. They were out of donuts (only guaranteed until 11am) which we thought was ridiculous! If you are going to be a donut shop, you should have donuts available the entire time you're open. The food and decor was beyond boring. There was nothing quaint about this place. read more

Disclaimer - I have only been here twice (in the same weekend) and each time had something from the specials board. I have not tried their regular menu. I had THE best french toast of my LIFE here! Seriously. I've eaten a lot of french toast in my day and this place ranks #1 on my favorite-french-toast-of-all-time list. This was no regular french toast. It was the most special french toast that has ever been created in the history of french toast - CINNAMON BUN FRENCH TOAST! A giant cinnamon bun cut into three slices, and then french toast-ed (yes, french toast is now a verb). The most amazing breakfast EVER! Downy flake makes the world's best blueberry pancakes with their downy flake flour coupled with their famous blueberry syrup. Throw on a few pats of butter and you are experiencing pure Heaven! Add a side of link sausage or crispy well done corned beef hash and you are set til Dinner. Don't forget to pick up a dozen of their warm just made doughnuts also unique made with that flour so they are world class and reasonably priced. read more

Good local joint. Downy Flake has been around for as long as I can remember and it always delivers solidly good breakfast food (I've never been for lunch but I will have to check it out and the prices are fantastically low). It was busy on a Thursday morning but we only had to wait about 10 - 15 minutes; I can see why people indulge in a donut while waiting...the smell wafting to the benches outside are delicious. We ordered quickly but had to wait a bit too long for our food to arrive and coffee refills were not as speedy as you'd like in the morning. Omelettes were tasty - nothing spectacular but good basic food and nice sized portions. Most dishes don't come with homefries but they do come with toast or a homemade muffin which are really tasty. read more

Downey Flake is overrated. Soggy waffles, canned blueberries, and a cheap tiny sausage side all were not up to the standards you'd expect for a $75 breakfast (for 3). I'd heard so much about the the place, my wife went there as a child and loved it. Maybe the eggs are better, tough to screw up eggs. The donuts were the best part of the meal. read more

This is an institution. If you want to see local color you go here. Food is home cooked, no nonsense, with unexpected surprises such as the shrimp and corn soup which was superb at our tasting. Service is wonderful as the same waitresses have been there for years. Very family oriented and wonderful donuts baked on the premises for take out. Parking is tricky but again this place is a definite visit as a soak in Nantucket atmosphere. read more

The maple glazed and coconut flake donuts are amazing but the chocolate frosted and cinnamon sugar aren't to be skipped either. Do yourself a favor and get a dozen so you can try all the varieties. One of our most favorite places to go for Breakfast/lunch. The Blueberry Pancakes with homemade Blueberry syrup are unlike any other....Fantastic! I crave them when we are not on the island. Also enjoy the Surfside Scramble. My daughter is a big fan of their donuts, too. You can't go wrong, no matter what you order. The staff is friendly and attentive. You see many of the same faces year after year. New owners have taken over, but you wouldn't know it...no need to change what already works. LOVE THE DONUTS! We look forward to coming here every summer on our vacation to Nantucket. Breakfast is good, standard diner food on the cheaper side (well cheap for the island haha). The donuts are what we come for! They are homemade, only three flavors.. but the sugar donuts are SO GOOD! We always make sure to grab a dozen for the house before heading home, which usually "disappear" by the time we get back from the beach. Highly recommend. Parking lot fills up quickly though, so be patient! read more

THE BEST DONUTS I HAVE EVER HAD! Hands down. There truly is no arguing that they have the best donuts on the island but even more so I've never had a sugar donut anywhere that is even remotely comparable. Although the donuts are small (I usually eat 2 or 3 in a sitting) they are packed full of flavor, especially when they are warmed up for a few seconds. I've had other breakfast items and they aren't anything special but the donuts in my book give this restaurant a 5 star! read more

A good meal at a fare price. No frills diner that certainly has earned a great reputation for good food and typical Nantucket (mediocre) service. The place is small so not a place to take a large group, but certainly worth the trip for families or singles to get a good breakfast or lunch. If you're staying downtown then it's not in walking distance but worth a cab or bus ride to get there. In fact the parking lot is nearly as small as the restaurant so not having a car would be a benefit for you. The service is sadly their biggest fault. Had I sat at the counter, service looked to be much better, table service however was very poor. read more

Quite possibly the best cake donuts I have had (move over Dunkin's you're not in charge in the cake donut dept.) The blueberry pancakes are really good with the signature blueberry syrup. Tried delivery via delivery.com (fried chicken for dinner). Well, what a mistake. Got call from delivery.com saying restaurant said they had no record of order (entered last night via delivery.com), said it would take the restaurant an hour to cook. Asked if that meant delivery by 7 p.m. She said yes. Food arrived at 7:25. Had ordered a whole chicken. This one came with four wings. Tasted like shake and bake. Bad experience and won't be doing this again. I know the Downyflake and wanted to support it in the face of Covid. But the food was terrible and the delivery mechanism was a total scam (I contacted delivery.com to complain and they won't take public comments on their website; said they'd tell their "team" and said management would review within 48 hours. I said there was no point since they don't care about quality or service). Thought the Downyflake did. But I guess delivery.com is the new uber. Won't be ordering in through that platform or restaurants who use it ever again. read more
