We were there with a party of 13 bikers and had a great experience. Service was prompt and professional. My wife and I ordered the chili and a beef sandwich. Both were very good, as were the fries. Sat at the bar and enjoyed drinks and dinner for a recent Cubs game. Bartender, mike, was fantastic and welcomed regulars and newbies alike. Fun, welcoming atmosphere. Celebrated runs with free Jell-O shots and had a taster of homemade pumpkin ice cream for customer appreciation. Tip for Doyle's: sell the ice cream. (Maybe this is more a plea from me). This is a decent place for lunch in a small town. Nothing exceptional. Pros: Large portions, food isarrives hot. The breaded mushrrom app was crispy and delicious. We had the Doyle's special roast beef sandwich and the Ruben. Yummy, crisp french fries. The sandwiches were fine, nothing exceptional. They claim they have the best Ruben outsided of New York City - dont fall for that. I prefer my bread buttered and grilled, not just toasted. This little gem has The Best pot roast I have ever had!! It melts in your mouth and has so much flavor it's heaven. Friendly waitstaff, music, and TVs. The only bad thing was the woman's bathroom. The ceiling tiles are moved aside so you see the inside air ducts. read more

THE WORST CORN BEEF SANDWICH EVER! You would think that a place trying to emulate something of an Irish Pub that they would have an outstanding corn beef right? It wasn't even close - served with lettuce & tomato (WTF!) - and there was more lettuce than corn beef!! That's just wrong - take a lesson from Epic Deli in Johnsburg or Eleven on south Wabash in Chicago, the sandwich from Joseph's Marketplace in Crystal Lake is 100 times better (and half the price & made right - lettuce & tomato OMG). Pretty much exactly as you would expect. Stick with the bar food and sandwiches which are good. The pot roast and meatloaf are to be avoided but burgers, wings, fries are all good. Found this place while dining at another restaurant in the same town the week before, and decided to give it a shot. First we got the wings for an appetizer. According to the menu they are award winning wings. Don't get me wrong they were very very good. The sauce was a little too spicy. My complaint about the wings is how small they are. They were really tiny. I didn't feel they were worth the price. For a sandwich I got the Doyle's special which was roast beef. My wife ordered the Reuben. So we cut each of our sandwiches in half and gave each other the other half so we could try both sandwiches. They were both very good, but a little tough. I would try it again. We wanted to go to some steak place in Wilmot, WI..not far from Richmond and it was packed and well, I don't eat steak and they had 5 things on the menu steak, more steak, grizzle (not really) shrimp, and lobster. But it did look like a great place for drinks, they have a famous Pink Squirrel...you don't see that everyday but it was not for me. Doyle's was the only other place we knew of in the area, unfortunately we didn't drive around Richmond much because as it turns out there is a bistro down the street. I was with my mom and at first sight I was concerned with the large amount of bikers but we gave it a shot. The best thing about my experience was they give you a basket of packaged crackers with butter, I can't remember the last time I've seen that. I am a bit of a picky eater so I got a cold sandwich and then I was worried what my mom would get...oh she soaked up the atmosphere...and got a full slab of ribs! That's my mom, a real motorcycle mama. Needless to say, next time I'm up in this neck of the woods I might stop in for a beer, but there HAS to be better pub grub around. read more

We went there last night for St. Patricks Corn Beef & Cabbage dinner. It was one of the most disappointing meals I have ever had. It started with our Guiness' arriving in a plastic cup and ended bad with the dinner itself. The vegetables were extremely overdone and just tasteless mush, the very thin sliced corn beef was like chewing rubber. I look forward to enjoying the annual Corn Beef and Cabbage feast every year, but I will never go back to Doyles Pub for St. Patricks again. read more

I have to start out saying I don't like wings. Never did although I've tried many. But we make a point to stop when we go through town just for their wings. I LOVE their wings. Now mind you because I am so wing picky that is what we make a point to go there for, but we've had many other great meals there too. Love their fish fry and have heard great things about their pot roast, but I found the wings before I tried their pot roast and we don't get to go enough for me to give up my wings for something else. Their atmosphere is nice, and their service is always exceptional. We don't live nearby, but we try to plan our trips up to Wisconsin to go through Richmond just to stop at Doyle's Pub. read more

Ate here with a friend last week - first time for both of us. When we walked in the place, it was like a ghost town. Only one couple eating and a couple of people at the bar. Sign said wait to be seated, but there was no host in sight. We waited for a bit and poked our heads into a room off to the side - still no sign of a host. We were about to seat ourselves when he the host came out and greeted us - who turned out to be our waiter. Had the chicken caesar salad, which was good. I like that they add veggies - cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes and onions to the salad. Not your typical ceasar salad but I liked it that way. Dressing that was served on the side was good, and I'm picky about dressing. So, 4 stars for my salad. My friend had the french dip sandwich and the meat had a couple of places where it had a lot of fat and gristle. She said the fries were just "OK". Service was attentive and friendly. Would go back again to try another dish. Saw a big deck on back so would be fun to sit out there in the summer. read more

The service at this restaurant is the worst. It is bad enough the food is only average but they charged me extra for items I did not order. Our group stopped here over the weekend. Although there were 20 of us and no reservations, the waitress said they could do individual checks. They took each of our names and our order. We did not mind that the food came out at separate times. But at the end of the night the waitress showed up with multiple checks, groups of 3 or 4 per check. Nothing was separated. That would not have been a problem if she got each bill right. I had 2 extra beers, a salad, and Coke on our bill and none of us had them. One beer was a blue moon from another person at our table. We asked and that person gave us the money for theirs. The other beer was a Guinness which none of at the large table ordered. The waitress said it was a large group and we owed for all. We asked to speak with the manager and he said he would take off the extras. There was no bill receipt recalculated. She came back with pencil figures stating they were removed but the figures did not add up. She said I owed we were still short. So with the extras items not removed, I HAD to pay $29 for 1 small chicken wrap and 1 drink. This is ridiculous. The manager needs to get a grip on his service. I will never go back to this place again. Our group will have to check out other restaurants that are fair. This one is NOT. read more

Was here just this last Friday for dinner with my wife. I had the fish fry and wife had the bangers and mash. I was disappointed. The fish fry was recommended, but just wasn't that good. I can't even say it was really bad, just didn't taste like anything. Very very bland. Wife's bangers and mash was good however. The food is average - typical bar food. The service was so-so. They offer a 1/2 pound of wings for $9 and a pound of wings for $13. I ordered a pound of wings and asked if I could get half in one sauce and half in another. When I received the bill, I was charged for two half pounds of wings. When I brought it to the waitresses attention, she said, "That's how we do it when someone orders 2 sauces". I asked to see the manager who told me he understood my frustration, but he was unable to change my bill. I won't be returning. read more

It started out well enough-lots of cars, packed bar, a wait for a table, so we thought we had landed on a promising eating spot to add to our rotation when we are in town. The owner was friendly and found us a spot at the bar, and the fellow there poured a couple of tasty black and tans while we waited to be seated. When we arrived at our table, the friendly waitress took our orders and we should have been warned when her response to our question about how the liver and onions, instead of an endorsement, was that she hadn't had any complaints about it. So my partner order it, while I got the fish and chips. My dinner was acceptable, but from the very first bite of the liver, it was clear that something was off. We told the waitress and she cleared it away, but didn't offer a replacement meal. It ended up that we were still charged half the cost of the dinner. So what started out well ended up with a dining experience we will not repeat. Too bad, too. It's a cute place. read more

I like the location of this place, and it USED to be a pretty decent place to have a few tasty pints. This was BEFORE the remodeling. The remodeling had significantly changed the overall atmosphere of the pub, and more so to an unfriendly one. The food though has always been suspect. At times the pizza would be wonderful, and at other times down right awful. Steaks and burgers?? Forget it! Over priced and poor quality. In fact, the last expensive burger I bought tasted old, and the fries were cooked in the same oil fish had been thus leaving a pungent smell and flavor of fish. What I find most perplexing is that its employees, and the local papers, say this place consistently wins awards and accolade for the best food in McHenry county! Either these publishers are paid off, or the people of McHenry county have no idea of what good food is. My last experience at this place was several years back on St Patrick's Day. A beautiful Sunday Wed. afternoon it was, with temperatures flirting with 70 degrees. The wait staff, and more specifically the owner, did NOT want to setup tables on the outside deck and serve us out there! I was astonished at the attitude, especially considering our group consisted of roughly 10 people, (and more were coming outside all the time) all of which were ordering food and plenty of drinks with PLENTY of money to spend..after all St Patty's day is when you let it ALL HANG OUT!. This would easily get an 'F' in any business 101 college course! I've only been back once for a pint of Guinness and it was great, but there are other places that offer Guinness on tap that is just as tasty, cheaper, and in a far more friendly environment WITH far better food. Sad, truly sad. Any entrepreneur with some money to invest could open a similar pub and theme and BLOW THIS PLACE away..Richmond is a charming town...it deserves better. read more
