This BBQ is simply not good. Dry brisket with no flavor. They do not give you any bread with your bbq, you have to ask for it and they'll give you a look if you ask for extra. Dozier's Grocery & Market in Fulshear - I have been a customer for over 15 years. Never have I been treated so poorly - by the owner himself. I wanted to buy a simple BBQ plate to break a $20.00 but I noticed the pork ribs were dry. There was no sauce on the relish table and I needed a T of sauce to cover up the dryness. Their BBQ chicken is always extremely dry and I stopped buying the chicken years ago. The last time I bought ribs they were very dry with very little meat. Their brisket was dry last two times even when I requested "loose or fatty cut ".In order to get sauce he informed me that I would have to purchase a container for almost $3 which I thought was a waste of plastic and a large waste of sauce. I would have happily bought a squirt into my container but his tone to me was hostile - maybe I caught him in an unusual bad mood. After 15 years he should know a long time customers name not "mam". I wasn't asking for something free just not wasteful & not in an abrasive manner. I never understood why a BBQ market could bake potatoes yet not make their own potato salad - their bought potato salad is the worst I have ever eaten - stopped buying that years ago too. Their meat market is expensive but outstanding - I will miss their bacon which is probably the best in the US. Yes you do make your rules as the Owner - but I as the customer do not have to visit your store or continue to refer your business to the masses ever again. These people. We have been there to process our game for the past 6 years and it was excellent untill now. Took this years game there and i was very disappointed. Had a giant male Fallow deer already quartered including neck meat. About 150 lbs meat and bone. Only got back 65lbs total meat. Almost all was burger and pan sausage which is 30%to 50% added beef or pork. They kept some for themselves for sure!!! read more

I wish the previous management/owners were still running the place. Dropped off 2 red deer and a fallow and only got about 100 lbs of meat in return. It's a big no for game processing. Would seem they empower women to man the game intake center and yet these women found it too much trouble to unload the game from the cooler, didn't offer a place for my son to wash before he handled the game after the trip back from the lease, didn't offer a hook to handle the meat and explained it was too much trouble to cut the scull to remove the antlers. Seems Dozier's can't be bothered to provide services that are common to processing wild game. Sad to see a business that has been in Fulshear for decades descend to total apathy toward customers. Best chopped beef sandwich in the world. Period. Tender, flavor that is out of this world amazing. I lived in Houston for many years and would make to 30-40 minute drive without batting an eye to savor one of these mouth water delicious hunk of meat sandwiches. This is my go-to place for beef jerky. Whenever we to any locations west of us, I have to stop at Dozier's to get beef jerky, meat or baked goods. I've been going to Dozier's since 1969 when I was sophomore in high school. It was excellent then and it's still is in 2019. It's changed hands since '69 and that's all that has changed, except for the addition of stainless steel to the preparation area. I love this place. Here is my spill on Dozier's. It is a great place for many things. The obvious reviews are for the BBQ which I agree with most.....it's dang good. However, what I haven't seen reviewed here is the meat market they have (steaks, pork, quail, boudin, chicken, etc). Both fresh and smoked meat is available at the meat counter. You can't get a better steak cut for you in the area. They have a great selection of meats available on their racks and if they aren't already cut to your size they will cut your size specs for you on the spot. They also have some great boudin. I always get a couple sticks of their 'hot' boudin for a weekend snack. I would say the hot isn't overwhelming but you do get a little kick from it. The staff is always friendly and the atmosphere is exactly what I expect from a small town grocery store. That BBQ smoke hits you right when you open the door. I came in for a sliced beef sandwich and some potato salad. The potato salad was really good but the flavor of the briquet was just so so. My son took a deer there to be processed and they called to say it was ready Dec. 13,2014. They called again last week and said if we were not there by the 23rd of Jan, they would sell it. I arrived Sunday after hunting and went to pick the deer up and they said it was sold. No compensation or anything offered. It is sad since the last deer they did for us (also 2014) with Jerky and sausage was great. i am going back to Junior in Wharton, imagine if this was the only deer we killed this year, it would have been terrible. One of my local hot spots to stop in for some good bbq. Dozier's is the place to go. I like how it is in Fulshear so its in a little town and has that nice feel to it. I either get the pulled pork or the chopped beef sandwich and the meat is always good and I always get mac n cheese to go with it and potato salad. The mac n cheese is good, I would recommend it with whatever choice you get. But as for a local hot spot I would ask anyone to give this place a shot. read more

I've been taking deer to Dozier's for the last 10 years to get processed. Until the brothers sold the business everything was great. The last couple years I've dropped my deer off have been a disaster. December 2019, they lost my back strap and ended up giving me some poor guys back strap saying that he "never wants it". Who Knows. This year January 2021, I ask for jalapeño only sausage and I got jalapeño cheese. I specifically told them no cheese and laughed about it with the guy because he said he really liked cheese. I want to add that the bbq inside isn't the same either. The new owner changed the way they do brisket. I couldn't finish my 15$ plate because it wasn't good at all. I'm pretty nice being in the service business myself but deer is hard and expensive to get, plus pay 300$ for processing. Not so Funny thing is the guy giving my packaged meat was reading off the page and said here is your jalapeño sausage. My wife is cooking gumbo so i went out to get the sausage from the freezer, she cuts the package, then tells me its jalapeño cheese. I figured, hopefully, they did just one that way, Nope, all 30 pounds jalapeño cheese. I don't eat freaking cheese!!!!!! Doziers, you have lost a customer for good. read more

I had chopped brisket and pork ribs today. There seemed to be a lack of smoke flavor on both and the brisket was clearly soaked in sauce or some type of vinegar-ish liquid to keep it moist. The ribs were tender and looked good but lacked the smoke flavor i expect from texas bbq. Prices were reasonable and the environment was a step back into the past which i like. The food was really good. The sausage was the best I have ever had. Usually the casing on sausage is tough. This sausage was moist and tender. The ribs were fantastic. I am used to eating ribs with sauce. These just had a dry rub on them. But they were amazing! And the brisket was great also. The beans are just regular ranch style, nothing to brag about. The potato salad was delicious. All in all, we will definitely come back for the barbecue. And we might come back to the meat market. read more

I never thought I would be givng a 1 star review to this place. Not sure what has happened to Dozier's recently, but the last time I stopped by to get takeout brisket it was not edible. I have eaten here at least 10 times over the last 5 years and it was aways very good. UNTIL the last time in November. I thought it might have been a fluke until I talked to a friend who had the same experience. I even sent a comment to their website expressing my disappointment and got no response. Been going to Doziers from the time Ed started making BBQ in his store that was up and across the street. It has had it's ups and downs, however even when it was down the service and food was better then good. With so many BBQ places around now I still make time once a month to go there. I can remember back in the 70s business men would drive out from Houston to eat lunch there (and that was when Westhimer was 2 lanes from Willcrest on). I have been eating at Dozier's on and off since my Dad would stop there on our way to Hempstead 50 years ago. The BBQ has always been very good. I stick to brisket and sausage and have never been disappointed. As far as the negative comments on here by a few folks, did you notice that almost all of them offered their opinion and then proceeded to insult others who disagreed? If you don't like it, that is fine, never go back. Nice country store atmosphere. I've eaten here several times over the years but the last time wasn't that great. The turkey was Lunch meat equivalent in taste. The sauce was watered down. Horrible!!!! Hands down the worst barbecue I have ever attempted to eat in my life. The chicken had neon yellow fat pockets leaden throughout the meat. It was disgusting. I hoped the baked potato salad might at least satisfy my hungry and growling tummy. No! it was absolutely nasty. Tasted rancid like it was prepared with ingredients that had gone way beyond there expiration date. Save your money. Go anywhere but here. I am shocked by the positive reviews. Seriously what are you people fresh out of prison or raised on frozen dinners? Though I have to add I have eaten frozen dinners that tasted like gourmet food compared this inedible overpriced slop. Ed Dozier, founder of Doziers G&M was an award winning pitmaster and many of his recipes are still used at this establishment. Their chopped beef sandwich is extremely good.
