A great grocery and BBQ joint where all the locals seem to hang out at after church on Sunday afternoon :) The small grocery up front, order BBQ at the counter past that and take a seat. They also process there own meat. I noticed their deer processing building about a block away as well. Ordered the three meat plate with brisket ribs and sausage. Brisket is OK, a little too trimmed up but still good flavor. I really enjoyed the spare ribs, they had the perfect pull that is not fall off the bone, but with just enough tug. Simply seasoned with just salt and pepper. No complaints about the sausage either. Sides are are well made. Good sauce, and really good house made hot sauce, though I needed very little. Filling, and with good prices. I have heard that the BBQ chicken plate is the way to go though. Need to check that out next time. Then the processed meats are all top notch. The house smoked bacon and jerky are fantastic. You got to love all the old Houston Rodeo posters and photos of past BBQ competitions. A friendly, down to earth local gathering spot that is becoming all to rare inside the loop. Instead of trying to be the next Killen's or Franklin's, I wish all the new places opening could keep it simple and charming like this. read more

Spent $30+ for two people. Sausage was bland. Chopped brisket sandwich was like a gelatinous clump of shredded crap on a bun. Threw the sandwich away after one bite. The mac and cheese was like box brand. The ranch beans tasted like canned ranch beans. The baked potato salad was not to my liking but I don't know what it was supposed to taste like. Very disappointed. Usually they are good. Just picked up 3 beef brisket baked potatoes and a beef brisket sandwich and the meat was all minced and hard. I've been driving out to Fulshear for Dozier's BBQ since 1970. The food was always great with one of a kind flavor. We drove out regularly for BBQ, the brisket, ribs, sausage, smoked turkey and chicken never disappointed us. A while back John and Smedley sold the place. When we first went with the new owners in charge there was minimal change and food was still good, not the great flavor we came to expect but good. Over time they've continued to make changes. While the remodel is nice and the place looks better the flavor and quality of the food has continued to head in the wrong direction. The last couple of times we went were very disappointing, so much so that we hadn't been back for over 2 months. We decided to give it one more try for lunch today, total disappointment. We're not going back, it's such a shame that a place that's been a favorite of ours for 5 decades has slipped so far downhill. Too many other BBQ places to go to for decent food to waste time driving out to this place. I had always heard good things about Dozier's but I had never been in. I decided to get some carry out for last minute family that was coming by for dinner. The employee that helped me on the phone was very patient and helpful with helping me place my order without ever having seen a menu. She was happy to go over my options and even called back to correct herself on the amount of macaroni they had available. The inside of the store is much bigger than I expected. I thought that it wouldn't have much seating based on what I had heard, and the size of the exterior, but I was wrong. I will definitely have to come back to dine in. I ordered 2 lbs of the brisket, 2 lbs of sausage, macaroni and cheese, green beans, and baked potato salad. I also bought two pies, and some fresh bacon from their cooler section. The macaroni and baked potato salad was incredible. We will order those for sides more often to help supplement large parties at our house! The Mississippi mud pie was a bit dry, but everything else was good. Overall, the food was flavorful and good, but I feel that the price on things like the fresh meats and pies was a bit steep. They say there's barbecue out there on the coastal prairie just south of Katy. Barbecue so good you just might forget you drove all the way to Fulshear to get it; barbecue so good that the DEA once shut it down for a week because there were suspicions of methadone in the rub and/or sauce. Yeah, barbecue that good. Hungry and hopeful I headed for the sleepy hamlet that is Fulshear and the Greater Fulshear Metropolitan Area. Like a lot of great Q joints, this place doubles as a meat market and processor. This is always a good thing because at least they're capable butchers and generally make their own sausages. Dozier's is no different in that regard. Dozier's bright light and wood trim serve a a local focal point. Regulars are greeted by the folks behind the counter as one of the owners strolls from table to table conversing with friends. A steady and diverse flow streamed through the doors making me realize Dozier's is no secret in these here parts. Step to the counter and rolled with the triple nipple, you know, three meats and two sides of BBQ testimony. And let me tell you what that Q said. The overly trimmed and thinly sliced brisket was fair. While it had a good smokey flavor, it lacked any real umph from the bark or fat. It was average overall. The ribs were not too hot. They were overcooked and had become a little tough. They weren't inedible, but instead left the impression that the ribs had passed their peak. The house made sausage was a good ole kielbasa type link sliced on the bias. It was arguably the best thing on the plate. Even better was watching the girl behind the counter slicing it in a matter that made me certain I'd be getting a four meat plate. That poor thing will be in mittens soon. The sides were actually decent. The cold, creamy potato salad was better than most. As were the ranch style beans; good, but not amazing. Unfortunately, I don't remember of the sauce to comment. I feel I should break down this review into two recommendations. 1. If you live in the Greater Fulshear area, you should eat here all the time and occasionally make the drive over to Midway or Swinging Door. 2 If you don't live in the Greater Fulshear area, maybe I saved you the trip. I gave one star as the food is usually good! Horrible customer service! I made an order online through their website in which I chose to "pick up." When I went to pick up my order I was told one of the meats I ordered was sold out. The female employee was extremely rude and was very put out to have find what was available in order to substitute my order. I chose another option of what was shown to be available and then was told again very rudely that my next choice wasn't available either. Normally I would have said forget it but I had already paid for the order online. I made another selection and she defiantly began making my order. I couldn't wait to just pay and get out! She rung me up and said thank you and proceeded to walk off. No receipt. I asked her politely for a receipt and she really let out a loud sulking sound! When she shoved the receipt at me I looked and it was $10 cheaper than what I paid online! I asked her why and showed her the receipt on my phone. After she studied it she said I had ordered through door dash and that was the reason for the up charge! When I explained that the website doesn't state that I was ordering through door dash she said "too bad have a nice day" in an extremely sarcastic voice! The website does not mention door dash or of this charge at all!!! I asked to speak to a manager and the said he was gone for the day. I'm so livid as this is not the Dozier's I have visited over the past 4 years! This establishment has completely lost my business! read more

So amazed and grateful I went into this amazing spot! They have a huge selection of homemade preserves and pickled veggies. I love the ingredients too. For ex, "strawberries, sugar, pectin, citric acid" are all the ingredients in the strawberry preserves which is yummy. The bbq is darn delish! My favorite meats are chicken and sausage--perfect texture on the sausage. I loove the baked potato salad... Sooo yummy! The smoke on the pulled pork was perfect. The sauce wasn't too sweet, smoky, tart, it was just right... Perfect variety of stuff for sale. I picked up baby wipes that were accurately priced. And the place is sooo clean--I love it! I once accidentally spent 100 dollars here on nothing but different jerky's lol. The meats are all smoked in varying styles and woods depending on the cut and type of meat. The butcher was incredibly friends and happily educated me about every single meat I inquired about. It was so interesting! I had no idea jerky had such a culinary art form to it. After tasting about 4 or 5 different types, I proceeded to order each one. It was during check out that I found my order total came to 100 dollars. Umm...what? *blank faced stare at the cashier* We took the jerky and headed back to my parents house where everyone who's a meat eater proceeded to revel in it's goodness and it was gone within the hour. I'll start by saying that we used to eat here 10-12 times a year. We slowed down over the past couple of years to 1-2 times because the value of what you get for the cost went way down. We just tried it again, giving it another chance due to hearing there was new ownership. First, the lady behind the counter was not friendly at all. The website says that on Tuesday's they have a sandwich, side, and a drink for $9.95. They didn't honor this because it was a holiday. Christmas Eve is not a holiday, nor does the website say anything about this. She failed to give us 1 of our 4 drink cups. When we asked her for the 4th cup, she said she could charge us for another one. We told her that she had already charged us, and gave her the receipt. She just set the cup on the counter, no apology, no here you go, nothing. Next, the food was not nearly as good as it used to be. The brisket was meh, the sauce must have changed for the worse, and the coleslaw was barely edible. I hope they can turn it around. Great TX small town feel. This is my kids' favorite spot to eat. It's the only thing we've seen that matches what their pre-conceived notion of what "Texas" would be. Good food, awesome jerky. Get the 3 meat plate--best deal for your money. Getting two of those feeds a family of 4, plus abundant left overs. I just wish they would serve better bread with their platters! But, the white wonder bread seems to be a standard at awesome BBQ places from here to San Antonio. We are so happy we'll be moving back to Chicago soon, but this is one of the places we'll really miss! read more

Our visit today was 2 star; super dry brisket and the other meats were under seasoned, everything had a stale and over cooked taste to it. Good barbecue in the area - we frequently get it to go and have eaten in house once. It definitely has that 'good 'ole country store' feel to it which matches the area. As others have mentioned, it doubles as a meat processor, so you know things are typically fresh and smoked onsite. From our experience, it seems to be better at lunch than dinner - not sure why. How can anyone complain about Doziers? They're right around the corner from my shop (The Glass Guys on Gordon Side Rd.) and we can't eat there enough!
