Dipped soft serve ice cream cone

This Dairy Queen location doubles as an Orange Juilus location so you get the best of both worlds. Let's face it this is no frills ice cream to satisfy that sweet tooth craving. Service was quick, friendly, and efficient. There was a steady stream of customers stopping in on a humid muggy Hawaiian day. This location has a few tables on the inside, so you can enjoy your ice cream or drink in the air-conditioned confines of the store. Plenty of public parking in the area.

Ice cream in Hawaii, what's not to love? Plenty of parking and outside seating make getting to and handling your ice cream fix a breeze. Not sure about some of these new flavors though. Churro ice cream? Peanut butter puppy chow? Ugh, no thanks. Just give me a plain old scoop or a blizzard that tastes yummy and makes sense, not something that sounds like it was made by a demented kid in a lab.

I love DQ. Sometime I wish they would be open a little later til 9 or 10pm too. Anywho I got the Oreo hot chocolate blizzard. One of my favs. Wondering if you folks wouldn't mind putting marshmallows fluff on it and toast it instead of whip cream.

While visiting muggy, muggy, sticky, muggy Kona, I was thrilled to see a DQ. Like a mirage in the lava rock desert. They're located in the Kona Commons, a newer mall between Kona Airport and Kailua Kona town. The store was clean, and service was friendly and fast. DESSERT: Oreo Waffle Cone Blizzard - $4.89 - Mmm, mmm, mmm good and so much better in a creamy, crunchy waffle cone! Clean and very easy to eat because it came in a plastic holder.

I haven't had soft serve from Dairy Queen in years and when I saw this in the Kona Commons Shopping Center, I got super excited. The shop is small but it's clean and they have a few tables inside. There were 3 small groups in front of me but I got my desserts pretty quickly. There were 2 people working; one person to take order and the other was making the order. After so many years, the soft serve still tasted amazing. If my stay in Kona was longer, I would have gone back on another night to get the chocolate dipped cone.

Aloha! That's it! This business is running 75 years. It has it's ups and downs, but it's nice they are still in the business. I ordered the original Otange Julias and it was good. My friend who tried this product 50 years ago said, that it tastes exactly like a last time he tried. I'm not sure if I would be back, because it's not my thing, but why not for someone else!!! I'm glad this company with such history is still around. Mahalo for reading this.

Their customer service reply really made up for the previous experience with their staff and they ensured me they would address the issue with their team. :) Old review: I visited the Gypsea Gelato in Kona today and was extremely disappointed with the service. I ordered a single scoop child's cone and was told "We only have our Ube waffle cones, we are out of the rest... but don't worry they don't really taste like ube". I said ok, that should be fine since my daughter wants a cone. When I get to the register, after they had already filled her cone, I was told the price was $8.50 for the child's size ice cream and charged an additional $3 for their "specialty cone". Prior to choosing the cone, I was not told anything about it costing $3 additional dollars. Nor that a kids size scoop for that cone would be $8.50 when it should usually be $4.99. So I paid $11.50 for a child's ice cream. When I brought my concern up to the 3 teenagers working there, they all made me feel as though I was in the wrong for not knowing my child's cone would be $11.50. One of the staff checked to see if there was a price on the front of the sample cone thinking she could rub that in my face but there was no price shared. So, I had literally no way of knowing how much I would end up paying until it was too late and no apology or kindness was shown whatsoever. Another staff member said "we aren't in charge of what they give us"... and to that I say, that doesn't absolve you from sharing the price of this speciality option -which again, was the only cone option offered. Had I known I would be paying $11.50 for a child's cone, we would have happily ordered the $4.99 cup. I'd appreciate if the manager would get in touch with me -not so much for the outrageous cost but more for the fact that their staff provided such poor service in not sharing the price, and not trying to kindly resolve the issue.

They claim the fruit is fresh and local but who knows how fresh it really is since it's frozen. The finished product is soft ice cream with icy chips of fruit throughout. I wasn't a fan. I based on the good reviews, I was really excited but this was a big miss in my opinion. I tried both the guava and the passion fruit and I preferred the passionfruit as it was less icy. Also at the bottom of the cup there's fruit flavor from the previous person as they use the same mixer over again so there are remnants from the previous customer's fruit in yours. The man working was super friendly so that's why this gets two stars instead of one star but this was a disappointment.

I guess I should have researched more thoroughly, but I wasn't sure if this place just had a small selection of vegan ice cream flavors available for the dairy-free crowd or if there was more to it. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the companies that make an effort (big or small) to accommodate for people with special dietary restrictions, but sometimes I also want more than the usual fruit sorbets or vegan chocolate flavor I usually come across. I would have been low-key disappointed if the only vegan-friendly flavor they had was coconut. So I have to say that when my partner and I decided to give this place a try after all, it had surpassed my expectations! They have two ice cream bases you can choose from - sweet cream (dairy) and coconut gelato (vegan). And they have three different sizes you can choose from. We went with Scoopah Doopa since my partner and I shared. Then you can choose 1-2 fruits which ends up being your flavor. I thought the fruits were going to be toppings, but they actually mix it all in together with the base so that you get a delicious, fruity, creamy ice cream! Flavor wise, we went with Soursop and Jaboticaba. Pretty new flavors to me, but they mixed deliciously well. The ice cream didn't come out to sweet and I'm contemplating on giving some of the other flavors a try while I'm here. What a treat! Service was really friendly as well. I highly recommend you give this place a try!
