I've been a patient of Dr. Aaronson since 2009, after a friend referred me when another dentist told me I needed thousands of dollars in dental work. Dr. Aaronson carefully reviewed my X-rays and explained that those procedures were unnecessary, saving me significant time, money, and needless pain. His office is run like a well-oiled machine. My husband and I are always greeted by a professional, friendly staff and are seen promptly at our appointments. What truly sets this practice apart, however, is the level of care and responsiveness. This past weekend, my face suddenly swelled up and I was in excruciating pain. I called the office and left a message, and within minutes, the treatment coordinator, Camie, returned my call. She quickly arranged an emergency appointment with an endodontist and followed up with multiple calls and texts to check on my condition and walk me through treatment options. Beware, they are charging me unexpectedly without a matching claim from my insurance. Even though I have a very good insurance plan from Delta Dental, and I have asked the office multiple times whether my insurance covers their fees and they said yes, they called me in for a consultation, and are now charging me $500 for that. They are not being helpful on explaining where exactly the fees came from, as my insurance claims don't even show the balance they claim. I recommend being aware of this fact, as this happened to me TWICE in a total of 4 visits for myself. read more

Would never recommend this practice to anyone if high quality work, honesty / integrity are important to you as The Patient. If you're looking for average, patch up care, then it's perhaps temporarily acceptable but you should know that you'll end up coming back again to have more work done to either fix the previous dentist's work (fact) or run into new problems that suddenly require attention. You will be charged more money, at already inflated/higher prices than most other NYC dentists but the extra unnecessary work should also be taken into account as you'll likely be going twice for the same issue. I never believed this until it finally happened to me. My referrals I sent here over the last 25 years, all had major issues with the work soon after. It was always blamed on some other dentist who no longer worked there or the patient chewing hard when they ate. I went here for nearly 25 years (across 3 decades) myself for only regular cleaning. One or 2 of the hygienists were good. Over the years, I kept referring many friends, coworkers and family for dentistry work, most of whom never returned to Theodore Aaronson's practice but went back to their regular dentist for plethora of reasons, predominantly due to prices and sub par / lower quality of work. This dentist not only attempted to defraud ME for charges neither my insurance nor I authorized prior to my scheduled minor procedure, but he then reported me to credit bureaus since I refused to pay bogus charges that were never discussed nor agreed upon but inserted last minutes by the dentist because the procedure didn't go as planned. When I pressed the dentist to provide proof, they could NOT because no approval had taken place beforehand. Dentist pulled 2 wisdom teeth, one of them very fast, the other took nearly 2 hours because he broke it while rushing to get to the next patient ($$$$) and left the roots in there. Heavy bleeding ensued and I started being in extreme pain. For 5 years, each time i went for my regular cleaning, since there was no other work to be done, this office kept asking me to take out wisdom teeth that weren't bothering me. Their argument was always, "it's quick, painless and cheap." None of which turned true. In 30 years since my credit was established, I've never been late on a bill, let alone be reported to Credit Bureaus. This is my only blemish, so that alone should hopefully say something about the tactics of this practice. Their dishonesty is beyond deplorable. Immediately after having both wisdom teeth removed, I confronted Theodore Aaronson himself about the erroneous charges. He sat comfortably in his strategically secluded office in all the way in the back, minutes after I had my 2 wisdom teeth removed. He seemed more preoccupied reading through his pile of newspapers, while I stood there bleeding profusely (and swallowing most of the blood). However, he did acknowledge his/their billing mistake. He then assured me that this matter would be sorted out immediately once his office manager returns from her knee surgery and agreed that I shouldn't pay on my way out. Total lies of course!! I went home and weeks later, once I began being harassed for the money that never belonged to this practice, I attempted to call and speak to the owner (Theodore Aaronson) himself. I thought that after nearly 3 decades of friendship, he'd at least have the decency to pick up or call back!!! He NEVER answered any of my calls nor made an effort to stand by his word, which clearly, meant nothing. Shameful but understandable I suppose after 40-50 years of being in the business. While the credit blemish won't do much harm to me, it is sadly not the case for many others. Please stay away from these predatory practices as well as ungrateful and disloyal individuals who will stop at nothing to cause harm to loyal patients or people in general. 3 decades of loyalty and referrals = Zero.00. This office practices unethical and deceptive billing. I went in for a fairly common but expensive procedure, and asked multiple times for verification that they were in network. They said yes, only to then spring on me after the procedure that they were not in network. On top of that, they added an extra, unnecessary procedure without informing me it was not at all needed and not covered under insurance either. When I confronted them, they dodged answering my questions and said I should be grateful because they essentially could have ripped me off for even more. They then expressed that writing negative reviews online or taking legal action, both of which are well within everyone's rights, would be perceived as extortion. My complaints are in line with the others you see here on Yelp. There are plenty of good dentists in the city: why go to one like this who you cannot trust with your wallet? read more

As I had mentioned in my original review of Dr. Aaronson's office, I have been to a few different dental offices before due to relocations and job changes. I've encountered incompetent office staff in a couple of different dentists' offices before and I never expected to encounter poor service in Dr. Aaronson's office, which was why I'm feeling very disappointed (in addition to angry) right now. I made my appointment for today six months in advance, as was the procedure at this office. Two weeks ago, I realized the appointment conflicted with my work schedule at my new part-time job so I called to see if I could reschedule the appointment for the following week instead of today but I was told that they're all booked up until mid-December. So I decided to take 2-3 hours off work and keep the appointment which entailed a 30-minute trek uptown and eastward. When I arrived for my appointment this afternoon, the receptionist told me they had called and left me a voicemail this morning saying the dental hygienist went home sick and that I had to reschedule. Needless to say, I was livid. It turns out they had called my old old work number. And I say "old old," because after I got promoted at my last job I was given a new phone number and the number they had on file was given to my assistant. This means whomever made the call this morning did not pay attention to the voicemail greeting which, I know for a fact, has been changed. However, I also know for a fact, Dr. Aaronson's office has my cell phone number on file as well because one of the receptionists had called me on my cell phone just 26 hours prior to confirm my appointment. One would think that a last-minute cancellation by the office would warrant more than one attempt to let the client know. Even if I was still working just 3 blocks away, I would have liked to know that I didn't need to plan around a cancelled appointment. I explained to them that I was getting paid by the hour and they were literally wasting my time AND money. In response, the receptionist asked if I could wait another hour until one of the other hygienists was available to see me. (Seriously, what a way to prove you're an incompetent idiot.) So I repeated that I was losing out on pay by being there. Then she asked if I could come back later on in the week OR the following week. I was baffled now. Just two weeks ago when I had called to reschedule the appointment, they told me they were all booked up until December! What kind of sheisty operation is this?! After this experience, I do not plan on returning to Dr. Aaronson's office. However, the performance of his office staff is not a reflection on the wonderful job the dental hygienists do. I would still recommend their service--with a disclaimer on the poor office staff and limited office hours. read more

Ermioni is the best hygienist I've ever had. She's friendly and tells me how my teeth are compared to last time and tells me which areas I could do a better job at brushing. I like how the office always schedules you with the same hygienist, so you get to know them. Electronic x-rays and big screens in each room all give it a modern feel. Fortunately, I haven't needed anything more than a cleaning and x-rays, so my time with Dr. Aaronson when he looks over my teeth is rather brief, which is fine with me and just like what I've encountered at other practices. I haven't had any issues with scheduling or waiting, but they do get booked up fast towards the end of the year. They are closed on Fri, Sat, and Sun. read more

Just got back from my first visit and it was really a good experience - the best dental visit I've ever had. They've got large LCD screens with cable so you can watch whatever you like while getting cleaned/worked on. They also bring up you Xrays on the TV so that you can see what they are talking about. Dr. Aaronson was like the company dentist at my old job. Since we were a few blocks away, many of my colleagues went to him and recommended him to me. I went to Dr. Aaronson for about 4 years and was very happy with him - though I never had any major work done - filled cavities was the max. I don't think ever waited more than 10-15 for my appointment (I always went in the morning before work though). They have a TV you can watch while they do your cleaning, which was nice. I definitely felt like I could trust this doctor (don't know about others in the practice). He filled one shallow cavity without Novocain (even though another dentist was going to use it) since he said it was shallow enough and I wouldn't feel it. Great! I was glad I didn't have to be put through the needles if it wasn't absolutely necessary. Later when I had other cavities and needed to be numb, I was scared and he was very good and gentle about it and had a special technique. I wish my insurance didn't change or I'd still be going here. read more

Worst dental experience with Dr. Aaronson for the most money. For about 5 years I went to Dr. Aaronson. As a struggling intern I paid well over $2K out of pocket for a crown but it never felt right, the bite was off, I was getting food stuck in there, etc. Every time I went back for the same problem Dr. Aaronson did a bit of work, claimed it looked perfect and told me to try it out and return if I continued to have problems. I wasted so much time away from work going back repeatedly to get it fixed and it never felt right. I suspected that the crown just didn't fit well and needed to be re-made but he refused to do so. At one point I got so frustrated that I actually cried in the office because it hurt to know that my hard-earned money paid for such a botched job and a smug attitude from my dentist. I eventually realized he wasn't going to do the job right so I found another dentist who confirmed that the crown needed replacing. I got it replaced and it feels great. In additional to his bedside manner, I question the doctor's work ethic. During my dental work, CNN was always on the television and I could see the doctor watching the news while he had his hands in my mouth. I wish I could give 0 stars, but Ermioni was great so 1 star for her. read more

My husband and I saw Dr. Aaronson for years. He is a good dentist. I had to stop going because of the location (inconvenient for me) and the fees. They are outrageous. I was told that they could not even look at an xray to tell me if they could perform an implant without charging me $100-after my husband and I had paid thousands of dollars for Dr. Aaronson's services for years!! I've never reviewed anything before, but I had a terrible experience with Dr. Aaronson's office. After my first routine visit, someone called me repeatedly to convince me to start an expensive Invisalign treatment. Months later, the dentist left my insurance network without notifying me -- I only found out months after that, when they began sending me confusing bills. I called my insurance company about those bills and realized the office had overcharged me over $1000 by failing to honor in-network rates (before they left the network). When I called the office manager, she tried to convince me that the office had made an agreement with my insurance company "over the phone, years ago" that exempted them from negotiated rates. This was a lie (I was eventually able to recoup the money I had overpaid by lodging an official complaint with my insurer). The fact that Dr. Aaronson's office stopped taking my insurance without notifying me is reason enough to discourage anyone from visiting these dentists. My experience wasn't as successful. Ermioni cleaned my teeth thoroughly. She told me I had an infection under a crown. She recommended using a $70 air floss machine and prescription mouth rinse for dry mouth which is $236.00. Then, she called in Dr. Aaronson, who is a very nice man, who looked in my mouth and accepted her diagnosis without looking at the x-rays himself. He then left and she walked me to the Reception desk to make an appointment with a periodontist and Dr. Aaronson the following week to remove the cap and clean out the infection. The receptionist quoted a price for a new crown. After I got over my shock,, I got a second opinion from a DENTIST. Guess what? No infection under that crown. I would have gone through that expense for nothing. I won't go back. I want a hands-on dentist who makes certain the employees that work for him give out the right information. read more

Avoid this dentist. The office is very nice so you might be misled into thinking you are at a professional dental office. I came here several times, had some fillings done. Dr. Aaronson walks into the room for 5 minutes quite smug and repeats what the hygienist recommends, walks out. The cleanings were done well. 1 star for that. The last time I went here I was told by him and the hygienist I need 6 fillings. I was very suspicious because of the way they were looking at each other. I went for a 2nd opinion and was told I need 0 fillings. The 2nd opinion dentist asked me if he should call Dr Aaronson and confront him on this? Dr. Aaronson put a huge filling in a molar which should of never been done. I needed a crown. It eventually cracked which led me to all types of problems I am still suffering from. No living being should live in those conditions. Get rid of the fish tank! Even when it was working there were too many fish for the size of the fish tank. I am now having invisline done and am very satisfied with the experience. I have to travel by taxi from 15th street and its a lot of travel time and cost to go there, but I trust Dr. Aaronson. and I have tried to find a closer dentist and was turned off by the offices I tried. I was a patient of Dr. Aaronson for over three years so I've had a handful of experiences to base this review on. Why did I not seek a different dentist over that time span? Well, I worked very close to his office and with work I just could not find the time to look else where. To be clear, I had a crown and a cap redone by the doctor as well as the yearly cleanings. The only good thing that I can say about the office is the hygienist that I had. Outside of that, everything else was plain bad. 1. the ladies manning the office were rude and inefficient. Last year I received a 'surprise' bill from three years ago and now I gotta talk to those women, who apparently aren't listening very well, to get information about this bill. A total pain to deal with. 2. As for the doctor, I don't, err, I know that he isn't very good at all. It seems to me that he's checked out in the sense that he is not paying attention to you when you speak to him. Either way, the crown that he replaced is literally 30% than what it should have been and the margin is noticeably above the gum line. To add insult to injury, I specifically told him that I wanted an 'all porcelain' crown, yet the guy got a crown with the metal band at the base of the tooth. Unfortunately, I assumed that he would do his job as expected and when I looked in the mirror I noticed the black band on the base of the tooth!! He had the gall to deny that I had made my request when I confronted him about it. 3. The cap that he replaced was done incorrectly. As per my new dentist (and this time I got a second opinion), the cap is not seated correctly and, thusly, is causing food to get stuck in between the adjacent tooth. In particular, the cap seems to jut out more on the side of my palate and, in so doing, it traps food easier than if the cap had been made and seated properly. These were two different times that I had work done by the doctor and in both instances he failed miserably (and it wasn't cheap). In short, rude office people and an incompetent (at the very least a careless) doctor. Not good. read more

I would never write a review of Dr. Theodore Aaronson if Yelp had not asked for it twice. What happened to me last June was so shocking that I can't even tell it here. A lawyer advised me not to: I don't have proofs of malpractice, so Dr. Aaronson may sue me for defamation. However, after reading many bad reviews about his practice - all of them apparently without proof - , I decided to warn innocent people like me. Friends said I was victim of a perfect scam, with no traces of the crime. But, looking at advertises of Dr. Aaronson, its hard to believe that such a professional, with more than 40 years of practice, needs to charge people for a work he didn't do. I went to his office because it's in my neighborhood. Working for the United Nations on a short contract, I don't have dental insurance. Friends say I was the ideal pigeon: foreigner, elderly, temp job, no insurance. I can't describe here what happened in his office because dr. Aaronson has different records of my dental chart in his computer! I saw them. If I complain to any authority, he can say that I'm wrong and then show my records as evidence. His assistant, who saw very well what tooth he touched (not fixed), supported his lie. After another dentist examined my denture and confirmed that the tooth dr. Aaronson insisted he had treated had not been fixed recently but some 10 years ago, I wrote (gentle letter) to dr. Aaronson, asked him to kindly review his records.
