The owner treats the staff like garbage. All of the patrons just kept staring at each other because of how awkward it is. It's happened every time I go there and the last time was the last straw. He is obviously a narcissist, and even if the staff is family no one deserves to be treated like that. I felt terrible for the kid working the register, packing orders, answering the phone. It didn't matter how he did something it was considered wrong to the point of being yelled. He even told the kids to hurry up so he started to walk faster between the phone and the counter and he tripped on the rug so the guy yelled at him to walk and that he would t pay him if he fell because he was being a dumb ass. Not to be confused with Dr Beat (Gloria Estefan), Dr Death (Murderer or Angel?), Dr Mengela (ew) or Dr Who (Who?). Dy Gyros has pretty good products - although they are nowhere near as good as the ones at Jimmy's, which closed down, and was one of my favorite Gyros in the country, just across the bridge in Davenport. Olympic in the north of the city is also better, but these guys are friendly and it's tasty and fairly affordable so four stars is definitely correct. read more

This is a place I used to come quite often but hadn't been here in a long time, so I decided to stop in for a gyro. First thing I noticed walking that the place needed a deep cleaning and a little sprucing up. It's clear that the decor and look hasn't been changed in years. This place really needs a deep clean and a fresh coat of paint. The service here was pretty poor, I read exactly what I wanted off the menu and the lady behind the counter didn't seem to understand and had to go get another employee to actually ring it in, (I didn't order anything special, I ordered straight off the menu board.) also I asked for dine in and when my order came out it was to go. To their credit they quickly corrected it. The gyro I got was the one bright spot, it tasted excellent, full of meat and the right amount of toppings, I got a "Greek Ruben" which is a variation of a gyro with gyro meat, sauerkraut, cheese & thousand island. This is delicious if a little messy, just make sure you got some napkins. The fries were bad, they were the coated kind and despite being just cooked, were already cold and dry. They also were broken into little pieces which made TJ em very hard to dip in ketchup. So if you are going to go here, stick to the sandwiches, and get the food to go. read more

Ordered Gyros from here and was very disappointed. They advertised as being #1 in the Quad Cities. That honor is not real if they call these good (not even close) the meat was dry and tasted as if it had been frozen, sauce has no flavor and very little on the sandwich, Onions have no flavor but do have a crunch. These are, absolutely, the best gyros ever. And Joyce who works there is a total gem. Also, some of the best french fries I've ever had. My favorite is the Gyro Reuben. Genius combination! And so flavorful and satisfying. I tried the chicken gyros once and didn't like them as much as the regular ones. If I wasn't in the mood for gyros, I would also just come for the fries. They're battered and super crispy on the outside and delicious and creamy on the inside. Also they make their own rice crispy treats once a week or so and they sell out FAST. For good reason. They're amazing. While also being great quality, I think compared to most gyro places they also have some of the best value. Great Gyros and amazing value for the quality. I was in the neighborhood, in the mood for gyros and found this neighborhood gem. They're running a special for the whole month of January, $4 per gyro. At that price I bought two. They were overflowing with tasty, perfectly seasoned meat, a good amount of flavorful tzatziki sauce, and the pita was warm and soft and slightly charred with a great taste. One suggestion that would make it even more excellent would be dice the tomatoes and onions smaller. They were pretty big chunks, especially the onions. The place was busy and it seem to be very popular. Makes sense with the price vs excellent quality of food ratio. read more

I've eaten there a few times in the past. Food was always good. Today the gyro meat was not warm. It also was not sliced, but was in chunks. I didn't think it had the flavor it should have if warmed on the rotating spit rack. The place is not what it used to be. It was well-worn and not very clean. All of the Pepsi products except Pepsi and Diet Pepsi had tags on them that they were out of service. I tried the Diet Pepsi and there was no syrup there either, just carbonated water. The only drink I saw that was available was the Lipton Iced tea on tap which is horrible with its Lemon flavor. I get the impression the place is on "it's last leg." Dr. Gyro is a good place to get gyros that are not made with pressed square meat like strips. At Dr. Gyros they actually have the meat on a spinning spit. Then shave off the meat onto the pita. Fresh onions and peppers added, (tomatoes too but i leave them off). The pita bread they use is also tasty. The actual location is not amazing, just an old diner with fresh paint and clean. Recommend : (what do you think I am going to recommend at a place called Dr. Gyro, the cheeseburger?) Regular Gyro double meat -no tomatoes (personal choice) They cater also! read more

When Dr. Gyro first came to town, I begged my mother to take me, despite the absence of Yelp in my life and no idea what the hell a gyro was. The Doctor popped my gyro cherry, so to speak (hungry yet?), and there was no going back. I've had countless gyros in the intervening years and let me tell you, nobody does it like Doctor Gyro. Okay, that could be an overstatement (I've had A LOT of delicious gyros since 2001), but Doctor Gyro makes a darned good sandwich. Today I ordered a traditional gyro combo. As you'd expect 'combo' is shorthand for 'fries and a drink,' and it all showed up at my table not long after I paid. The fries were good. The gyro was great. I ordered a side of tzatziki in anticipation of the possibility that my gyro would be too dry, but it wasn't at all. They were very generous with meat and toppings. The pita was great. I doubt they make their own pita in-house, but mine tasted very fresh anyway. The owners at Dr. Gyro have kept the building looking nice and made some upgrades to the decor and menu board since opening. Everything was clean. There's quite an extensive menu, but I've only ever gotten a gyro. I doubt that their cheese curds, fried mushrooms, and similar greasy spoon fare is actually homemade and wouldn't waste my time on it when their signature dish is done so well. read more

The gyros are on the name of the place so they should be good, right? Fortunately, they are! Very tasty and sizeable gyros are what you are going to get. The onion rings I got with it were normal, nothing special, and pricey. Had my first meal there over summer. Menu is crammed packed full of many varieties of meat delivered in a Gyro style. I was more curious with their specials board. Seemed to be a weekly posting. This week they had a Reuben Gyro. I love Reubens and I love Gyros, so I figured that this was a safe purchase. They gave me what I asked for: lamb cut thin, with white onions, cucumber sauce, sauerkraut, thousand island dressing, and seasoning salt. It was exactly what I ordered but not what I thought it was going to be. (Thought it was going to be a Reuben sandwich and all it contains wrapped in a pita.) The combination of lamb and thousand island was not the best and left a weird taste with me the rest of the day. I think I just ordered wrong because the servings were large and the lamb by itself was good. I think you'd be safe trying something more traditional. read more

Please READ Kitchen nightmares the moment you walk in the door and look to the left where your food is cooked there is food particles thrown everywhere it has not been wiped up or clean very unsanitary in the cooking department. After sitting there for a period of time I heard the manager and the owner talking about an order that came in on the phone 45 minutes earlier and had not been picked up the bags of food were sitting on the counter where I could see them.about another 30 minutes later so a total of an hour and 15 minutes the girl called and said she was sorry and she would be there shortly rather than making her fresh food they gave her the old food. And did not say anything. I think they forgot I was sitting in there after she left they talked about how it was not their fault that she called and did not come for an hour later and if they did not feel the need to remake the food. She apologized multiple times while she was in there for being late that did not help it look like she might've been a hairstylist.and then a short breath later the owner said now where did all the business go. Well obviously when you treat your customers that way and give out that kind of quality and keep your establishment unsanitary that's where your business went somewheres else . Sometimes you just crave a gyro, and when that happens in the Quad Cities, everyone I know runs to Dr. Gyro. I dare anyone to come up with a better Gyro place for the price. The location is definitely what I would define as "dive-y" but the food is greasy heaven on a pita, so I can't complain. On tuesdays they have a great deal where you can get 3 gyros for $9. Genius. $3 for a meal?!? Grab two friends and chow down. As a side note, there is a wall in the back reserved for those who can complete the "Mount Olympus Challenge". so let me tell you my honest opinion. I've worked in the restaurant business for 10 years.. working my way up to kitchen manager. I moved here from out of state and was looking for a job, got hired on at dr. gyros. Most of the reviews are just coming from a consumer standpoint, and they have no idea what is really going on in the kitchen and "behind the scenes". The produce, meats, sauces, vegetables etc are ok, it's all stuff you can buy yourself at the store. HOWEVER... the kitchen is filthy, nothing is clean, the owner doesn't wear gloves, there is no handwashing sink that works in the kitchen. poor management, disorganized.... has lost 8 people in a couple months.... guy tries to work his employees 6 days a week, 10 hour days, open to close, no overtime.... and treats everyone who works for him like , ... kisses the customers a s s, because he wants your $$... he won't be open much longer i guarantee, not with the economy, lockdowns, and his terrible management and disrespect for his employees. We had both Gyros and Italian Beef. The guests raved about how good the food tasted and that is was such a good idea to deviate from traditional outdoor wedding foods. Weird service. I'm pretty sure the owner is the one that rung me up and he was kind of a jerk. I'd been standing there for 5 minutes while one employee completed tasks with his back to me, no greeting. Then the owner came out of the bathroom and was not friendly at all. I love Dr. Gyros! We have been coming here since 07 when we moved up here from Chicago. I love their soups, always fresh and homemade. The Gyros are awesome! They give you plenty of meat in them, better than that "other" place, lol. Also, their wraps are great too! If you've got gyro fever, see the doctor. Dr. Gyro. (To be clear, that's not pronounced anything like "gyrate.") Now that the obvious/cheap joke is out of the way... seriously, the gyros are pretty good, and HUGE, however it kind of weirds me out that you can get sort of untraditional toppings on them. Forget that noise, go for the real deal. I believe they often have specials where you buy two and then get even higher cholesterol. The fries are pretty good, from what I recall. FUN FACT: This building used to be home to a Dunkin' Donuts when I was but a wee lass. Though there are no longer Dunkin's in the QCA, I thankfully no longer live there, and can, also thankfully, satisfy my craving for mass produced baked goods on just about every fucking block in Chicago. read more
