I don't like Marinara for spaghetti sauce - too sweet and their bread is also too sweet. I like garlic bread to taste like garlic and not a sweet bread with a sprinkle of garlic on it. I make real home made spaghetti and will turn down what comes from Grinders since it's not up to my standards on what REAL Italian spaghetti tastes like. Too sweet and no spices. Trust me when I say the people raving about the spaghetti have no clue what they are talking about. You can buy better spaghetti sauce at the grocery store. Top shelf called "Raos". 100 times better than whatever they serve here. I only gave it two stars because the Gondolas are pretty awesome. But it's the only thing that is worth eating here. I was mentioning to a co-worker that I would be in Moline and his first response was, "Are you going to get some Grinders?" I had no clue what he was talking about so he went on to explain their melt-in-your-mouth garlic bread and great food overall. I figured I would try it out. The place used to be some fast food place and it still has outdated chairs and booths but I didn't mind. They have a small ordering counter and the guy behind the counter was so nice and helpful! Their processes reminded me a lot of Fazoli's but the food is way better! I ordered the Manicotti dinner based on other reviews and got the garlic bread. I opted for their house Italian salad dressing and it was good. The manicotti was terrific! The meat sauce had great flavoring and was not clumpy (which I liked). The garlic bread truly was melt-in-your-mouth! Awesome food overall! The place had a steady coming and going of customers and I can see why. Grinders has always been a favorite until today. We ordered 2 lunch meals (there were 2 of us) and a family feast. Even though we paid $50 for our meal, they wouldn't bring the family feast out to the table so we couldn't eat any of it since it was a to go item. Not sure the reason behind this"rule" since we had paid already.. Here's a picture of my baked chicken sandwich.. 5 chunks of chicken on one half. Shouldn't this be a chicken breast if it's a sandwich? Or at least say it's chunks on the menu? In addition it was over cooked. Ok. Today I used a card and was charged 4% above the listed price for my dinner. I complained to the clerk and she and the owner explained they charge 4% for the card. He said it means the same as the sign. They consider their 4% discount is the advertised price on the menu. Very deceptive. Why not say "there will be a 4% charge for using a credit card" ? Came in at 7:59 exactly- on March 14th, 2016 they close at 8:30. Party of 3. Was told by manager I couldn't eat in dining room. Hourly worker said it was because it was a "pain in their ass". Lady with dark rimmed classes (manager) was rude and inconsiderate like always. I've been coming to all grinders locations since I was a kid and have never been treated so rudely so consistently. Grinders. Glorious. The bottom line is that this is good cheap food. Each lunch special comes with your choice of a pasta dish and cinnamon bread or garlic bread. I highly suggest going with a friend, each getting the lunch special, and splitting the bread (each get one type). Everybody wins. As far as decor, I am fairly certain that back in the day this was a Hardee's, and you might never know if it weren't for the throw back seating that still has the Hardee's "H" back. They have also put up some divider stuff to mask it's Hardee's past, but I think the draw here is the quality of the food for the price. read more

I`m here to tell you if you offend people with penny antic`s like this you will pay the price. It`s not a great deal of money, just .85 cents on my order but it does show me the lack of managment when you can`t add the cost into your overall menu or absorb the cost as part of doing business. In today`s environment most people do no carry a lot of cash so they are stuck paying your 4% fee. Just know that when I come back for my next visit for some great pasta, I will walk out the door if I continue to see a 4% fee added to my bill because somebody is to stupid to figure out how to recoup that bank fee and price it into your over all cost.. read more

I grew up in Moline. Now I am in Chicago. Many times when I come home to visit my parents, I take a tub of spaghetti and some garlic bread back with me to Chicago. Bringing Grinder's back is worth it. I have yet to have better spaghetti and especially garlic bread anywhere else. Grinder's is good and reasonably priced. I've always loved Grinders' spaghetti. Whenever I would visit my grandmother here we would pick it up. Today, I went in with my family after meeting with a funeral home to prepare for my grandmother's funeral. Every member of our party ordered their own sandwich or pasta, but I just wanted a half gallon of spaghetti for myself. The woman at the front desk told me she'd have to charge me for a plate, but I said I could just eat the spaghetti out of the container. She said okay. Very rudely. We went to the table and sat there for about five minutes, then the manager came out. He said that he would be able to bring out my family's food, but they wouldn't serve me a half gallon of spaghetti in the restaurant without explaining why. I asked if I could eat it outside, and the manager started getting sassy with me. He argued with my mother who just had to prepare her own mother's funeral, and we ended up demanding a refund and we left without our food. The moral of the story is, if you don't know what's going on in other peoples' lives, don't be a jerk. And maybe explain your policies when you come out and say that your customers can't eat your food inside of your restaurant. I will never be returning again after being a customer for over 15 years. Last time we got carryout I decided to get the meatball sandwich based on a friend's recommendation. The good news is that the sandwich was really good. The bad is that one end was burned to a crisp. It was black. I seriously don't know how they could serve this to a customer. Had it been in the restaurant I would have sent it back.
