Hi I'm A returning customer who had brought there Benz in to fix a car problem. It took A week to even have them open it up. When they did I had them look at the starter to see if starter was matched up with fly Wheel and nothing was jammed in there. They told me it was not. So They Charged me 2 hour's worth of work $260.00 which is fine but when I looked in at starter is was just Hanging there. They left the 2 Front windows down the whole time for BUGS and Dust to collect. I Called Jack to see why this had happened. He had No answer on both and it makes me wonder why people can't do their job right. INITIAL REVIEW: I have taken my Lexus IS to them on a couple of occassions to circumvent the exorbitant cost of dealer oil changes/servicing. While I have found the oil changes to be a discount to the dealer, the qoutes I have gotten from them for brakes are actually a lot higher than Lexus of Westminster. While they were willing to negotiate the price down, they were not willing to match. Perhaps more disturbing, and the reason for my single star rating, is the inconsistency I experienced. I was told my rotors measured under spec and needed to be replaced. When pressed if they were sure I couldnt get one turn out of them, they assured me they were 1mm under spec even though no one had written down the exact measurement. Having received a cheaper qoute from Lexus and also needing some recall work done I opted to have Lexus do the brakes. Not only did they measure the rotors to be 1/2mm above spec, they were able to turn the rotors rather than replace them saving me a couple hundred dollars. This means that Dr. Import is either incompetent in their measurement or dishonest, neither of which are acceptable. I won't be going back which is disappointing because the gentlemen there are very courteous and friendly and the showroom is very clean and organized. I was hoping I could find an honest and reasonably priced shop that I could rely on. The search goes on.... ADDENDUM REVIEW: After having posted my initial review of my service experience at Dr. Import, I was contacted by both the management at the shop as well as the shop's owner. Both expressed concern over my disappointment and the service I received which was reflected in my review and wanted to make it right. The owner in particular, who was very curteous and professional, felt strongly that his mechanics are honest and accurate and requested I bring my car back to have the rotors measured. Admiring his willingness to get involved and his concern over the integrity of the shop and its reputation, I acquiesced. Long story short, we measured the rotors and they measured .1mm under spec. In other words, Lexus turned the rotors for me resulting rotor that was .1mm under spec. Dr. Import was clear to say that this is against the law and it is their unwavering policy to only turn rotors if they are sure they will remain above spec. While I respect their policy, I will forever accept a rotor .1mm under spec vs. completely replacing a rotor. Not only did Lexus save me the expense of replacing the rotor, I believe they were very reasonable in their judgement to turn the rotor. Aside from the measurement issue, I was disappointed during my initial experience that it appeared my orginal rotor measurements weren't written down. This was confirmed by management for which they apologized for and were sure to state that this is the exception. All in all, I very much appreciated the dedication to customer service at Dr. Import. While I disagree with the policy at the shop, they technically did not mis-measure the rotors. I would have felt more comfortable had they properly notated the rotar measurements but aside from that, everything was above board. Everyone was very respectful and warm during my return visit despite my negative public review. I will continue to have oil changes done with Dr. Import but will be tentative about future services going forward... trust should be earned. read more

They would not answer the phone (called multiple times on the Saturday before mid day and this morning) so I drove all the way down there and the smog check guy tells me it would be a couple of hours. Note it was 8am on a Saturday and no one was there. No customer service here. Avoid at all cost. read more

My Volvo was having some sort of transmission/power loss issue and I could not pin point it. I brought the car in and he made note of exactly what I wanted checked out (check engine light, gear change trans issue, and replace a headlight bulb). When I called the next day to see how things were looking, he rattled off a seemingly endless list of "problems" stemming from error codes. Error codes are great, but in my personal experience not every error code failure means a part has to be replaced. Regardless, my transmission had not yet been looked at, but so far the work was estimated at $2100. I told him that that was more than I was willing to spend and I did not want them to work on the car and I would pick it up by the end of the day. Total bill for labor and part (headlight) came to $160...I can stomach that. When I got in my car in the parking lot and turned it on, it immediately began idling incredibly hard. I drove it down the street to see if it just needed to get going, but it got worse. My whole car was shaking and every time I came to a complete stop it felt like it was going to sputter and stall. I brought the car back and explained that my car was running horribly and it has never done this until now. After diagnosing the car, it turns out one of the cylinder coils was now failing and had to be replaced. I was told that this was not directly THEIR FAULT, but the "test" they ran could have caused an already damaged coil to fail....sure......I could not drive the car and I needed my car for the weekend so I had now choice but to have it fixed. Part was $40 (understandable) but the labor cost was $120....a lot considering other mechanics I've now spoken with estimate this to be a 10 minute job. So in the end, I brought my Volvo in to be diagnosed and hopefully repaired, and I left paying almost $300 for them to plug in a computer to read error codes, break a coil, and then charge me to replace a coil. Thanks but no thanks Dr. Import. Too many other shops out there that take pride and stand by their work instead of their silly customer service facade of fake smiles. read more

I brought my car here for a check since I had a potential buyer. After 2 hours of waiting I get my car back with my sunroof stuck open. I asked the guy at the front desk asking if they were going to at least try to get it back in the closed position. The man at the front desk shrugged his shoulders at me and said "well I was not informed not to press the sunroof". I am extremely annoyed that he did not take any responsibility for getting my sunroof stuck and did not even have the courtesy of putting it back in the correct position. read more

A car repair shop? Ahhhh, but only on the surface, because really, it's much, much more. Its family owned & operated & these people are salt of the earth & honest as the day is long. They sell & fix cars like no other & I mean NO other & they show free movies with free popcorn on Saturday nights to the public, how great is that? I mean, WHO does that???? They were voted the #1 business in the OC, NUMBER ONE BUSINESS in ALL of Orange County people! From San Clemente to Seal Beach & EVERYWHERE in between, A Repair shop, a repair shop!! Now, You may wonder why I'm writing this & I'll tell You. I refer Everyone I know to these Folks because They have NEVER disappointed & have NEVER let me down. And because my parents god rest Their souls, ONLY took Their cars to THE DR. That's right; They drove 12 hours, 683 miles for 22 years JUST to get Their car serviced! I mean, that's GOT to be a record right? The last time my Mother made it down was the first time by Herself without Dad & THE DR. had flowers & a card for Her, some HOMEADE cake, & many kind words, laughs, tears & memories. Before my Mother passed, She meant to send a thank You card but never got the chance. I'm fulfilling Her wishes now by saying thank You to EVERYONE at THE DR. for 22 honest, solid, loving years. I had engine rebuilt which cost $14k. Within 7 months since the re-built. I had my car brought it roughly 4 times. One was for the original problem which I thought they addressed, but apparently they did not. The second happened just recently after having the car less than 24 hours after they worked on it. They charge me twice for a diagnostics which they should of got it the first time. I believe they take advantage of the consumer because they know that they have something over the consumer (i.e. fake facade of caring, car engine warranties, the quote "specialist" which they will send your car back to the authorize dealers because they cannot figure it out.) read more

Our old Volvo's "check engine light" is on. We take it to 15 different places, including several Volvo dealerships. No one can seem to find the problem, with most of them draining our pockets and telling us this part and that part needed to be changed. Dr. Import came to our rescue. From the moment we took the car in, we felt like we were in good hands. Arun was great to talk to and he provided us with a tour of the shop, which was clean and organized. Jack is an awesome mechanic, with the knowledge that he has and he's so patient they were working on about 20 cars that day, & it took about 45 minutes with the oil change. They make it known that they're not a drive-through quickly lube and they really will do the best they can with repairing your car and maintaining it up to your standards. they also have a private workstation if you were to be stuck there all day waiting to get your car fix which includes Wi-Fi and a large desk, well Anyways glad my mom got me a Groupon to this place because I don't know too many honest mechanics. read more

I took my mom's car here because of the reviews. My mom owns a C-class 2004 benz. The mileage on her car 48,000, the car was making a roaring noise.,with a hesitation in shifting. Mark at Dr. Import kept the car overnight and called the next day saying it was the transmission, and cost to replace the transmission was $4,700.00,wow the price is right but with that mileage, I could not believe it. So I called her regular mercedes benz dealer back east and he said no, take it to the nearest mercedes dealer it could be one of possibly two things.So I took her car to the mercedes benz dealer her rear brakes were dry rotted and the bad shifting part cost $140 to replace $300.the total under $700. The only reason for rating this place a one star is because you can't give any lower. Being a woman does not mean take advantage of me please, nor does being elderly. read more

I have serviced at the dealer for my Mercedez SUV. Mark recommended a new transmission when it has 42k miles on it and cost $8k. I spent $120 for this analysis and took it to Fletcher Jones Mercedez and got help from Jon Derby. FJ charged me less than $1k total to repair some transmission plate and not getting a new transmission. Mercedez assisted 50% for the part cost. I called Jack at Dr Import to let him know of this problem at his shop because I had been their regular customer. Now, I have serious concern and can't recommend this shop. read more

Would NOT recommend! Service advisor recommended "much needed" work that, after second opinion from the dealer, was not needed at all - let alone near emergency repair basis. Service advisor was, of course, very nice but I really felt as though he was trying to take advantage of me. Would not recommend and definitely would NOT trust them. We bought a Volvo 960, sight unseen with the intention of driving it back to Wisconsin. A pre-purchase check revealed a couple of small problems, so we contacted a place recommended as fantastic by a friend to do whatever seemed smart for a long road trip. The 960 is great, but the day I was supposed to take it to Dr Auto it refused to start, so I had it flat-bedded to Dr Auto. They could not replicate the no start. After a conversation with my son in WI we decided to replace a shift switch to be on the safe side. It was corroded! They also took care of a control arm that needed attention, flushed the transmission and brake fluids, checked the differential and changed the oil. Service was great, parts are top notch, everyone there is not just polite and friendly but pays meticulous attention to detail. They do not do things that do not need doing and communicate with the customer all the way along the line - and they do not assume you are an idiot. They were even smart enough to get Marilyn Carlson to paint a mural worth looking at if you need to wait. Originally a Volvo shop and still a great Volvo shop. Excellent service. I have been going here since their old location when they only worked on Volvo's. Jack is the most friendly and competent service advisor I have ever worked with, anywhere! While they can be a little pricey sometimes they are completely thorough. If you have something fixed, you will not have to come back because they only fixed part of the problem. You can leave them with just about any car, any problem, and not even have the slightest worry that they will fix it correctly the first time. The service I received at this place was unbelievable. Several friends recommended I take my car here and I am so glad that I did. I absolutely HATE taking my car to a mechanic. I don't know what to believe and I always feel like I'm being lied to. I initially took my car to the Acura dealer and the cost to have the 100k mile maintenance done was outrageous. I walked into Dr. Import and they put my mind at ease immediately. Jack took amazing good care of me and my car. He explained that his mechanics do not work on commission and will never recommend to fix anything unless they thought it was absolutely necessary. I'm shocked that this is the first review of Dr. Volvo. I call it that because they started out in life repairing ONLY Volvos at a location across Euclid from their present location. These guys are always fair and very customer oriented. I've even called up Jack (my favorite service advisor) to ask for advice on a car that my daughter had taken to a Volvo dealer up in Culver City. He confirmed what I already thought - which was that the dealer was basically ripping us off. I've brought 3 different Volvos to this place over the years, and even bought a used Volvo from them, and have almost always been happy with the service, and always happy with the honesty.
