Dr Joe Is the worst dentist I have ever been to. He removed my fillings without my permission and later developed horrific complications. What is more interesting is a strange experience I have never encountered in the past: Dr Joe held a negative personal bias against me because I share the same name with somebody he had a problem with in his personal past. I work in the intelligence community and have very little contact with the outside world. I know everyone I have had contact with in the past 20 years. I am absolutely certain I have never had contact with him. He continued to maintain that negative attitude toward me. He treated me like some like of criminal even though I paid for everything in full and in advance. Any time I tried to start a friendly conversation or ask a serious question he would clam up and say little. But with other patients he would go on and on and just would not shut up. I had other dental procedures that I had paid for in full, and they were never completed because he would constantly delay with no explanation. What is more: he has his friends and family write reviews for him on Google. He also pays for fake reviews on Google. If you study the reviews for his google page, you will find that a lot of the reviewers have the same divorce lawyer in Knoxville, Tennessee and the same tax attorney in Chicago. He did a root canal on me that never felt right. I went back to him 4 or 5 times and nothing was solved. I've lately been experiencing infection. I went to an Endodontist who did a 3D image. He found that Dr Joe did not get all of the root cast curved off. Dr Joe went straight down and did not curve which caused an infection which created major bone loss. The only thing that can be done now is to pull the tooth. In addition, my wife had upper dentures made by Dr Joe. The actually were missing 1 tooth which again after several trips back and forth, this was never corrected. We now have to pay out of pocket for new dentures. I had a horrible experience with this dental office. It started off okay for the first cleaning or two, but when I purchased whitening trays, the girl who did my moulds was so rude and really not careful and she cut the corner on my mouth, right at the crease. The cut then got infected after a few months (crease cuts don't heal the same as other lip cuts) and I had a fungal infection as a result. I know it came from her. I really hope she uses different gloves for their other patients' sake. The trays were not the right size for my mouth and the whitening gel burned my gums on more than one occasion. After seven years I am so disappointed in the standard of care provided here. My wife and I have come here for many years. At first this office was all about hygiene and maintenance. In recent years it has switched to procedures and major treatments. I write this at 4 am, as my wife stands crying in our living room because of care she received at Dr. Joe's Dentistry. We have called Joe all week and not received any call back from him because the office's terrible answering service and insufficient emergency contact information. She delivered a baby 6 weeks ago and says she experienced nowhere near this level of pain (possibly an exposed nerve). She has left many messages and I have also called to get her some help. Last Sunday, my wife received two temporary crowns and she mentioned that day that he used a lot of anesthetic. At first we thought nothing of it, although she felt like it was way too much and he was in a hurry. On Monday and Tuesday she noticed some discomfort which was persistent and worsening. By Wednesday she was in so much pain that she had to call the office. Then we lesrned Dr. Joe was out for the week. As we discussed what might be wrong she described the procedure to me, she mentioned that they never checked her bite with the new temporary crowns. Because of this mistep we had to see another dentist on Thursday and he had to shave crown down significantly to repair the rushed work. He was visibly concerned with the care that she had received and this made us even more concerned. In addition to all this, my wife has since mentioned to me that the Dr. said she needs crowns, but he did not bother to explain why or explain the issues which could have resulted from treatment. This lack of communication is incredibly irksome and unfair. We have a small baby at home and this whole debacle is draining. Today it is Saturday and Joe's assistant talked to her yesterday while he was checking office messages. Apparently he did not contact the Dr., instead the assistant just suggested she should "wait till the new crown comes in". Meanwhile, my wife is now crying on the couch. I suspect she may have needed a root canal and Dr. Lee or Joe has failed to refer her maybe he did not notice how deep he drilled, I can't say. I really admired and respected this man but watching my spouse writhe in agony is completely ridiculous. My experience with Dr Joe was not good. I am not a mean person and I don't like to say mean things about people so I feel bad about writing this review. I went to Dr Joe because my friends recommended him to me. So when my crown had loosened and I didn't want to go to downtown L.A. to my regular dentist, so I decided to try Dr Joe because he is local. Like I said before, I am not a mean person but I have to tell the truth because other people might suffer. I don't think Dr Joe knows what he is doing. First thing I noticed about Joe is that he doesn't talk a lot. I ask questions and he doesn't have a lot of say. When I asked him about his special in-house crowns he seemed to get annoyed. Despite the extremely high cost of his crowns, I decided to go ahead with the procedure. Everything seemed fine for the first month. And then the crown came off. The special in-house crown that they had installed and I had paid for was just a broken piece of glass. When I called to explain the situation, they told me "sure come on in we'll fix it." But they could not re-schedule. They were always too busy. Finally they called me back to tell me they had an opening - only problem was that it was that I had to wait: four months! I obviously won't be going back. When i told my friends about Dr Joe, they understood why I was disappointed. My husband and I saw this facility back in 2018. We went on different days. My work was minor and my husband had a few things done plus a tooth extraction. I received a summary of benefits and they reversed the billing. I called the front desk and explained to them that the summary reflects that I had the tooth extraction, etc. The receptionist/billing at the time thought nothing of it but said she'd take care of it. I followed up, she said she'd take care of it. FAST FORWARD to 2022 - I went to another facility and needed a filling...but they said it can't be done because I have no tooth, it was extracted! This place is more about marketing than caring for patients. They didn't honor the free cleaning offer even though my child had insurance and needed more dental work. That would have definitely made them money. I had asked specifically about the free cleaning prior to, but confirming. The appointment but was assured it would be covered. The Steve, the office manager, explained a few days after that free cleaning for insured patients really doesn't mean that because they don't really know how to process my child's insurance. It was through a large California insurer.They did request a second cleaning for my child before the dentist could even see her. When Dr. Joe finally cam e to the examination room, they needed to schedule the exam for another day. Ultimately, I found a an up front dentist who was more than capable, because my daughter, an early teen, didn't think Dr. Joe answered her questions. He kind of talked down to her like don't worry. I believe he wasn't necessarily trying to be condescending, but just not used to answering inquisitive kids questions about their health. I did end up paying for her free cleaning, no way Steve of Dr. Joe were going to lose a nickel even when Steve admitted he hadn't understood her insurance, even though they again had said it would work for their offer. He doesn't tell you why you need the dental work he is recommending. He will just tell you some basic information. But he wont tell you why you need sealants. I cracked my tooth. I went to Dr Joe's office and he told me that they could fix it and woo, woo, woo. They talked up how great their crowns was and they told me that they was made in-house. So I decided to go for it. It cost me a huge chunk of change. But I needed it because I like to chew my food. The crown didn't fit perfectly. My bite was off and it just wasn't right. It felt like I was chewing with a flat tooth. Then by about the second month the crown broke. I pulled it out of my mouth and I discovered that all it was was a cheap brittle piece of porcelain. The staff here is pretty good. So I am saddened to say that Dr Joe is a horrible dentist. His skills are sub-par and he doesn't know what he is doing. He is still a rookie. We took my toddler here for a dental emergency on a Sunday, she fell in the bathroom and knocked her front tooth pretty hard, the gum around the tooth was bleeding and of course lots of crying. Dr. Joe was very gentle and it was her first dental visit. Luckily she was fine and didn't hit it that hard, she displaced it but not badly enough for it to be loose. Dr Joe's cosmetic work is horrendous. He has no eye for detail. It's all done quickly and without care. If you are the kind of person who doesn't care about their teeth and just want to get them serviced in anyway possible, then Dr Joe is fine. I went to Dr Joe based on a friend's recommendation. They always call me at least 3 times before my appointment asking to move it to another day, and they charge you $75 if you have to cancel your appointment within 48 hours. Last time I went I was informed when I showed up for my appointment that it would be at LEAST a 25 minute wait. Would have been nice to get a phone call in advance for that. I would like $75 from them for cancelling on me. As far as dental services are concerned. They are nothing special. They do standard quality work. They drilled holes in between my teeth where there were spaces and now I have plaque all over my teeth. I should never have gone to Dr Joe. Very regretful. read more
