I can't say enough nice things about this shop and their crew. Last fall my trans started making noise until it failed. New Subaru transmissions aren't cheap and sadly they can't be rebuilt (thanks for nothing Subaru). That didn't stop them from looking at every option for me. We worked together and found a used unit with low miles. The cost was higher than I was prepared to put into the car (what major repairs aren't higher than expected?). But it was still nearly half the cost of a new unit from Subaru and "Ruby" is running beautifully. I can tell the negative comments left here are by people not used to the high cost of car repairs. They can't handle bad news so they put blame on the shop. Sorry, repairs cost money. If you want to stay on the road you need to put work in from time to time. I'd rather give that money to a shop that works WITH their patrons to come up with a solution that makes (almost) everyone happy in the end. Thanks guys! read more

Update 7/7/17: Received a call today from Dr. Nicks and was offered a free oil change because of my experience. Appreciate the follow-up and their attempt to make it right. Found Dr. Nick online searching for a place that replaces exterior lights on a Volkswagen. Spoke with Sean, friendly guy, recommended I replace all the lights because it would save me $ if one of them were to go out in the future (hence $67 for parts). I understood that it was a more complex than normal job because it was a VW, and asked how much it would be. I was told that they would find that out for me "later". Didn't get an estimate on parts or labor. Next call I received was from Sean telling me it would be done shortly and that he had taken photographs of the work. I'm assuming he told me that because he suspected I would be aggravated about how much it cost, which I was. The total for the job to replace my headlight and a daytime running light was about $350. $67 for parts plus 2.5 hours of labor. I'm not so much pissed off about how much it was as I am that I just feel blindsided by them. Should have been told how much it was going to be before they started the work so at least I could have been given the option. Won't be going back there. read more

Went in for a reseal job; replaced the torque converter too. Did not use exact factory spec tranny fluid for my model year (which is critical on my vehicle despite their opinion). Forgot to reconnect speed control electrical connector which I had to trace. But despite these difficulties the transmission has been running ok for a while now. read more

Do not bring your car here, I have had them install two used transmissions in my Audi S4 over the past few years, (both under 35k miles) and both either broke or we're not working correctly within a year. Brought the car back in to get the second transmission looked at and was told it was a motor mount (which was broken) was the problem. They fixed the motor mount, but surprisingly that didn't fix the transmission, the transmission still made noise when I picked up the car. The real problem though was the fact that they gave me the car back saying it was really leaking oil, which until that point had maybe leaked a few drops here and there. I was then charged for 2 quarts of oil only to find out when I got home they overfilled it by a quart. But it gets better, with the new problem of an oil leak I was high recommended to take the car right home and to not drive it. To my surprise when I got into the car they had put 40 miles on the odometer. Now I'm not expert but I don't believe a broken motor mount needs a 40 mile test drive to make sure it's fixed. Nor do I think it was a coincidence that my car was now leaking oil when it previously wasn't a problem, so the only real conclusion is someone decided to take the car out for a joy ride. I would not recommend bringing any car here especially one that you care about. They may smile at you while at the front counter but smiles don't help much when you get your car back with bigger problems then you brought it in with. read more

Thus far, the work seems top notch and its pricing was fair. But what I found egregiously lacking was customer service and continuity. What could have been an experience in excellence did not exist in the least. Sean, the service manager, continually changed his story about part orders and timelines. He also lied by omission, never provided updates unless I called and requested them ~ even at that point, I'd need to wait another 1-2 hours before a response was elicited ~ and often regarded my questions or comments with an edge of disdain. I asked for estimates and was blown off completely! My car needed a door lock actuator, and it should have been finished by Wednesday afternoon. This was the original story, but they needed to specially order the part. Somehow, however, it wasn't done until Friday at noon. How was it approximated that the work order would only consist of one hour of labor, though it eventually became three hours? And it could have been easily completed by closing time on Thursday. Yet it wasn't. I felt utterly blindsided by their inability to be straightforward and honest. Though I had a loaner car, I wasn't at liberty to drive it all over creation nor did I want to. Filling their gas tank before filling my own was not part of the deal. I had myriad appointments, errands and caregiving for my terminally ill aunt that had to be rescheduled or restructured because Sean couldn't be bothered to apprise me of the situation as it was unfolding haphazardly. All in all, it was a frustrating interlude that will never be corrected or duplicated because they are not getting another iota of my business. Case closed. read more

Recently had Lexus 07is350 tranny rebuilt by these guys. Also new torque converter. 154k on it and it was slipping every gear. The guys there are very friendly and knowledgeable. Did the work and it runs like brand new which given the age I didn't think it would really be the same again. If you know the is350, it's a rocket stock and with that familiar snap of second gear and hard accel through third it reminded me I when I test drive it first time. I am in love again. The 12000mi /1 yr warranty was also a pleasant surprise. I found out that my regular mechanic in Huntington ct and a friend who works at Subaru used this place for all trans work, so I called them up. Great service and stayed in touch with me throughout. Will use again if I need them. read more

My pick up truck was making a noise my brother told me the ball joint in the drivers side need to be replaced but he doesn't have the tools to do it, I bring my truck to this place they told me nothing was wrong with the ball joint they just need to be greased but my truck need new drums and a cylinder they charge me almost $800.00 in less than a month my truck was making the same noise, I went back to then. They said now you're truck need a new ball joints and they will do it for another $800.00 I went to MANNY AUTO IN WATERBURRY they did the job for $150.00 now my truck sound like new. I don't know if they really changed the drums and the cylinder. read more

This is the worst place I've ever had my car serviced. 1st I call them because they "look" like a reputable business BUT, When I 1st called, Shawn at the front desk, confirmed they'd tow my car for free and I confirmed that a clutch replacement, resurfaced my flywheel, replaced my clutch slave cylinder, and replaced drivers side Axel seal was considered a major repair. My original quote was for $1300.00 but after the slave cylinder it suddenly shot up to $1947.00 that included a $109.00 tow charge. It blatantly states FREE TOWING FOR ALL MAJOR REPAIRS on their website. His explanation was that he had so much trouble getting the transmission out and that he had to adjust the linkage... that it was only fair I pay a tow charge? It's a little confusing because the repair became more of a MAJOR REPAIR I should pay a TOW CHARGE??!!!??? Moving on The shifter felt a little loose but I figured, hey maybe it's due to a new clutch and the other work but to be safe I called a Saab certified tech at a Chevy dealership whom I've had work done by on my car before and mentioned that Nick jr. said he had mentioned adjusting linkage on my 5 spd manual 02 Saab 95 Aero sedan. It was then I knew something was wrong. The tech told me there is no linkage involved in the work he performed. He said the only linkage is in the shifter which had no reason to be touched. Over the next week the car began having trouble shifting into 3rd, 4th, and 5th gear. So this time I called AAA and had it towed over wasting 1 of my 4 free 100 mile toes because I wanted to avoid any confusion this time. When I call I had to agree to 1 hr of service which I agreed to as long as it wasn't an issue that I have a 1yr or 12,000 mile warranty, whichever comes 1st, from the previous work. A day or 2 later I call and Shawn answers telling me it's the complete shifter assembly and they are calling around looking for the part so I wait. Around 3 days later I call again he tells me the can't find the part and that they are looking for a used part to save me money but it would be under warranty but still they could not find 1. After 1 google search I find the part in New York for $100. I instantly call Shawn and give him the name of a company, the receptionists name, and the part number. Shawn calls me back but he leaves me a message stating he spoke to the company and the guys name I spoke with and confirms the part was being ordered and gave me a $347.00 estimate for all parts and labor. So I wait a week and call Shawn back and ask if my parts have come in and when the car will be ready. I get a "I'll call you right back". He calls me back confirming he just spoke to the guy and they should be there any day. I hang up, call the parts company and the same guy I've talked to every time I called tells me he has no idea what I'm talking about and he has never sent parts to Dr.Nicks or any company in the town Dr. Nicks is in. I immediately call Shawn and tell him he is blatantly lying and they never talked to him or anyone else from nicks and that I'm on my way to get my car and the police will come if need be. He hangs up probably because he was caught in a lie on record on my voicemail. I get a call back from Nick saying your car will be out front with the keys in it and he hangs up before I can speak. I get there, walk in, and have my phone recording video. Shawn was on the phone so while I'm waiting Nick jr walks out of the back so I say, hey Nick who diagnosed my car and what's the diagnosis? He says the shifter linkage is worn out ( which I can only assume is the linkage he said he adjusted during our 1st encounter. So I proceed to ask why I was told the parts were in the mail and as soon as my car was done, they'd call but the parts were never ordered. Nick tells me he doesn't order parts from companies he's not familiar with and that if I got the parts he'd do the work, but with no warranty. I said if that's the case why would Shawn confirm that he ordered the parts from the place I recommended and on their way over a week ago and then confirmed it on my voicemail an hour ago. He begins the (I'm caught stutter) Shawn enters the conversation at this point. He says it was a mix up of communication and Nick jumps in and says we thought you were ordering the parts. I told him, I talked to Shawn over a week ago and it was 100% confirmed that they were going to order and install for the quote he gave me and it's recorded on my voicemail which I asked if he wanted to hear it and all I got back was it was a mix up. Just as another family walked in. At this point he just wanted me gone. So I get a no charge, take your car and get off my property. I say I need a print out of their diagnosis and he's hiding in his office talking through the wall and he tells me go have Chevy do it but finally I get my diagnosis read out and explain if his diagnosis is incorrect and it turns out he's wrong. He will be billed. read more
