I've been a regular at York Vet Center since 2019, at which time I had three senior cats who've since passed away but not before receiving top notch care from Dr. Herman and his staff. I currently have two dogs who I've never brought to a vet other than Dr. Herman. As every pet parent knows, the importance of finding an excellent and trustworthy vet cannot be overstated. I implicitly trust Dr. Herman and the staff at York Vet Center and cannot imagine bringing my beloved four-legged children anywhere else. But enough about my feelings - I'm not the patient after all! Every one of my animals has been so happy on every visit to York Vet. I don't understand how that happened with the three cats who had previously been nightmares during vet visits - especially when two of them had to have dental surgery at York Vet - but I don't need to understand it to appreciate it. We have been coming here for around 2 years now and it is obvious that York Vet cares deeply about their patients, even being as busy as they are. Great care by Dr. Herman and the entire staff is so nice and courteous. We have had only good experiences.

It has been a bit more than a year since our Lab mix died and a day doesn't go by that we don't miss him. Our dog died from a blood disease, he did not have enough platelets and had internal bleeding. Upon his death we obtained his chart and saw that our dog had been anemic since May of 2022 but we were not made aware of this and he was not treated for this. May '23 low blood count, but again we were never told. April '24, blood in stool. Dr. Herman gave him Metronidazole. Blood work was preformed and his platelet count was critical. We were not told of this situation and the doctor gave our dog his yearly vaccines which is contra indicated when an animal is sick. The doctor never told us to take our dog to the hospital until the end of April when he continued to bleed from one nostril which is indicative of a critical situation. We spent $20,000+ and our dog endured much suffering as well as our family enduring this. YOU SHOULD NOT GO TO THIS PRACTICE. DR. HERMAN doesn't respond in a timely manner, has his tech people performing procedures he should be doing, and doesn't take care the way he should. In May of '22 our dog should have been treated for anemia. We are so sad to have lost him. He was a love and suffered so much.'DON'T USE THIS PRACTICE! read more

I scheduled a drop off appointment for my Dog (as this is all they had available) and was told on the phone that it would take one hour. They also confirmed that it would take one hour when I dropped him off. When I returned an hour they told me that noone had time to see him and that I could either wait or reschedule. I couldn't wait as I had to make a work meeting and had to leave. I saw the doctor running around basically saying that he was doing the best he could and just kind of putting his hands in the air. I now have to figure out where to take my dog on a Friday night for his eye infection. Had I known that they didn't have time to see my dog today, I would've scheduled him an appointment elsewhere. This was our first experience here and was super super poor. Do better. Don't take appointments that you don't have space for and be a little more apologetic when someone has a sick dog and has taken time out of their day for no reason due to your poor planning. The office was run down and smelled strongly of bleach additionally. read more

Not only are they incredibly knowledgable and professional but, they're also kind humans who genuinely put your pet's wellbeing first. We adopted Dasha, pictured below, at the beginning of the COVID pandemic and were able to get a next day appointment with Dr. Herman. As first time pet owners, we had a lot of questions and Dr. Herman took the time to genuinely answer all of them and made himself available for any follow ups on the phone. We continued to get incredibly personalized attention as we took Dasha for all of her shots and later got her spayed. I couldn't recommend Dr. Herman enough. I am deeply grateful for the care that has been provided to Cassie. My 10 year old cat is allergic, asthmatic, and typically suffering from some sort of digestive issue. In summary - before she was treated by Dr. Spencer Herman - she was ill for about a year with either constipation or diarrhea. Her asthma was mostly under control at this time - but I placed myself into deep debt taking care of this poor baby. At the old clinic - an appointment would average about $400 per visit. The previous clinic also wasn't doing their own ultrasounds - they would hire a freelancer to perform them and this would always cost about $500. The freelancer came in twice a week and unexpectedly - so the clinic staff would order all pets to be brought to the office before 8 in the morning - and the pets would be available for pickup in the evening after 6pm. Expensive and traumatic for both the animal and the human. Doctor Herman was able to perform an ultrasound right in his office  - and it took about 5 minutes. Not only that - but he was able to show me what was going on, and educate me about what exactly I was looking at. This is the kind of care and compassion I appreciate and respect in a nice human being. It goes above and beyond. I am so deeply grateful for the care, compassion, and kindness on behalf of Dr. Herman and those I have met from his staff: Jamell, Norman, and Nadira. Thanks for being kind, patient, and present while I run through questions and concerns. Cassie is now at a healthy weight, breathing normally, digesting properly, and not scratching her skin off. TLDR: York Vet Center and Dr. Herman are excellent and reasonably priced. You should make an appointment now. I am admittedly very particular when it comes to choosing a vet for my dogs (they are, after all, like my children). Since moving to NY 3 years ago, I have struggled to find a vet that I really trusted with my dogs. However, early this year, after reading the good reviews that York Veterinary Center received, I decided to go ahead and book an appointment for my older dog and I am so happy that I did. At the time, my dog was 12 years old and I knew that she was getting very sick. She had already been diagnosed with kidney disease, but her health seemed to be rapidly declining. I brought her to her first appointment with Dr. Herman and he recommended an ultrasound, which ultimately indicated that she had a significant numbers of masses on her liver and spleen. While the outcome of my visit seems negative, there are a number of things that really stuck out to me during that visit. First, Dr. Herman is great with animals and he truly cares about them. And I am not talking about the "I am pretending to care about your animal, so you continue to bring business here" type of care. It was obvious to me he genuinely care about making my dog comfortable in with him and the other staff members and giving her the best care. Second, I really appreciated the way that he explained the prognosis for my dog and the various courses of action that could be taken in conjunction with how each course of action would realistically affect her and her quality of life. He also suggested ways to manage my dog's pain and symptoms while I made a decision with how to proceed with her care. At no point during that conversation did I feel pressured to take one course of action over another, but rather I felt that I was given all the information I needed to make an informed decision about my dog's care. He was (exceedingly) patient while answering my laundry list of questions. Third, every single staff member at York Veterinary is so friendly, kind, and accommodating. Needless to say, I was not in my best emotional place that day, but Dr. Herman and the staff made it easier to the extent that they could. I can't say enough how much I appreciated that. Finally, after every single visit York Vet Center calls me to make check in on my dogs and make sure they are doing well and that I have no questions. Unfortunately, my older dog has since passed, but I continue to take my other dog and, now, my new puppy to York Vet Center and I am not sure who is happier about it: me or my dogs. I love it not only for all of the reasons above, but also because Dr. Herman is the most reasonably priced vet I have ever been to. And my dogs love it so much that I actually have to DRAG them (including my extremely shy rescue, who is afraid of everything) out of York Vet Center and then down the entire block before they stop trying to go back. After adopting my Black Lab mix Nash a little over 2 weeks ago- we set up an appointment with the UES Vet Center for a wellness exam to see if he could go under anesthesia to get neutered. Of course we had to wait until the end of this month to go in which was fine. We weren't in any rush because Nash wasn't exhibiting signs of any urgent services. However he began feeling lethargic, lost his appetite and had shortness of breath. I immediately called UES Vet and was told I couldn't bring him in even though it was an emergency and I had a future appointment with them. I found Dr. Herman's Office through InstaVet and it possibly saved my dogs life. He made my boyfriend and I very comfortable throughout the entire ordeal because we were terrified and didn't know what was going on. After sparking my pups appetite with a can of food we began the examinations. He was thorough, patient, funny and calming. He took Nash's temperature even though he couldn't feel for a fever and found he had a temp of 106- very dangerous for puppies. He ran some blood work and he also discovered it was UTI related and sent us home with 7 days of antibiotics, canned wet food and kibble for the day. He told us to come in for a check up tomorrow which is exactly what we'll be doing. Nash even left with a nifty bandana and a new chew toy which he loves The price was affordable too! I left with peace of mind that he would get better. We were even able to call him later that night when he had an upset tummy and told us what to do. I'm so grateful we found you Doc because living in the East Harlem neighborhood can feel like a desert when your only option is Banfield Nash is happy, healthy and loving his new diet you recommended as well. 5 stars all the way! read more

I took my dog Fred for his first visit and I was very impressed with Dr. Herman. He was super knowledgeable and let me know all the pros and possible risks for a tooth procedure for my pet. Also, Fred is a jittery chihuahua and his staff, including himself, took great care to calm him down as they were checking him during the visit. Fred responded well to them! The overall experience and knowledge of Dr. Herman and the staff was impressive. We've taken our pets to several other vets in the neighborhood and weren't impressed by our experiences. When you find a veterinarian office suddenly opening up in the coveted UES, invariably the first question is - How expensive, then In that order, is the vet any good?. The answer to both queries resides in one Spencer, Herman, DVM. Then when one is accustomed to paying exorbitant vet charges, you freeze and suddenly let out a howl when you hear that your first visit is $40 (for new clients ). His Regular fee $80. It gets higher depending or bot if tests are ordered or surgery occurs. Then you're still getting a great cost savings. I'm now of the believers who in the past paid anywhere between $500 to $800 at another Eastside vet's office. And over $200 for a feces sample testing. Dr. Herman's fee: $50. But how good is Spencer Herman? Personally, what I have observed so far, the youthful Herman can stand tall next to most other great vets in Manhattan. He is self-assured to almost bordering on cockiness. But don't misread what you just read. He believe in his knowledge of veterinary medicine which defines the best in his profession, Tall, thin, handsome, Dr. Herman, on occasion, will defer the charge for an office visit, just the medicine he dispenses if no full exam is required. Said one customer, "He is a real cost-saver. I don't know what I would do living primarily on Social Security and what she laments as a meager pension "If Pepper really required expensive treatment, I know that Dr. Herman would get me the best price. God bless Dr. Herman." The office are attractive, and extremely clean. Receptionist Nedeira, is a beautiful young lady who man's the phone and seems to perform the responsibilities of an office manager. She is adept at billing and other aspects of the position. Dr. Herman is an amazing vet who goes above and beyond. I had a Shih-Tzu names Dolce who almost made it to 18 years old. When she was about 12 our family vet retired and from age 12-16 we were in limbo. Enter Dr. Herman who helped her live comfortably. He cared about her and often called just to check in. He made the unbelievably painful euthanathazation as humane and as comfortable as possible and you should have no qualms whatsoever about putting your pet's health in his hands. He also has quite an amazing and compassionate staff. After Dolce went to the rainbow bridge we received cards from his office. Above and beyond is the term I'd use to describe his practice. Had an appointment and called to see if it was okay to arrive 15 minutes late and was told YES. Arrived as scheduled and they set me up with the vet. Midway through the appointment another vet comes in and makes me exit the room because the next appointment had arrived and my dog now had to be seen after them. After ALREADY BEING IN WITH THE VET! Asked what would happen when the next appointment came in and couldn't get a proper answer. Horrible service. Lack of professionalism. Not recommended. Next time, instead of losing a new customer, the better alternative would have been to tell me to reschedule when I made the call informing them that I would be arriving 15 minutes late. Dr Herman had the equipment (ultrasound and X-ray) and expertise that kept Mikey comfortable with his cancer. He even included so Chinese herbal medicines.
