No smog re-inspections unless you want to pay full price again. Don't mind paying for a smog inspection if it fails but I was under the impression that smog places give you a 14 to 90-day courtesy. I can admit it's a bit silly for me to assume but I know it's 100% sleazy this owner did not make that clear to his customer before the service. Andrew is great! When my old mechanic Mike retired, I decided to try A1 for a smog check cause it was a block from me! Great! Nice guy! Clean garage. Went back for Oil change. Again great. A year later he did my brakes! On my next oil change he suggested a tune up and transmission service next time - neither had ever been done before in the 10+ years I got oil changes. We came in to have our tire checked out because of low tire pressure. The guy helping us said there was no tire issues but that the coils needed to be changed asap. He kept pushing about the coils. We ended up paying for the change and disregarded the tire since he kept saying there was nothing wrong with the tire. After he upsold us and we left the shop, 2 blocks of us driving from the shop and we still had the low tire pressure light on. We ended up going to another shop and they found a nail stuck in the tire. We felt lied to and tricked after leaving this shop. Never come here. read more

I have a lot of respect for Mr Andreh, three times he's been honest and saved me from spending money in things I didn't need. I have been coming here for a long time he does my oil changes and smog inspections, and now my breaks. I came in asking him for my breaks that needed to be replaced, also I asked for a transmission oil replacement. He said he could do both no problem, but before he did the transmission he asked what the problem was. After I explained to him the problem, he recommended I didn't do the transmission oil replacement cause it may actually make it worse but that I should take it to a transmission specialist. He could have done it and charged me for it, and I would have paid. I needed my radiator replaced (or so I thought) because my car was overheating and I was told by another shop that it needed to be replaced. Mr. Andreh looked at it and he said it was only the thermostat housing unit not the radiator. Thanks Andreh for your honesty. I also asked him if he could give me a quote on replacing the four struts as I was told that I needed at DISCOUNT TIRE CENTERS in Burbank, and he said after he inspected the car that I only needed the rear ones not all four. Today I came in for a smog test and I was out in less than 15 min. I recommend this place because he is a very polite and honest man, and I have never felt cheated or taken advantage of. read more

Great place, they really did their best to fix the problem. I thought it was a leak, but it turns out it was the compressor / clutch. I have a warranty that covers big things like the compressor (but not leaks in hoses) so I have to take it to the shop the warranty approves of. I wish it was A-1 because I know they would have done a great job, and not try and charge me for unnecessary repairs. If there is ever a leak in one of my A/C hoses I'll be sure to bring it here. read more

I've been taking my old Saturn to Andre for years. He is extremely honest and will recommend against doing work that isn't necessary. Most recently, my water pump died. Andre had it fixed the same day, and when I took a look at the bill and compared prices for the replacement pump, I saw that he charged me the exact same price as I would have paid at Pep Boys. Less honest mechanics would try to jack up the price. Bottom line: if you live in the Burbank area, Andre is a mechanic you should try. read more

I have sent all my cars there for over 15 years. I am a classic car collector. Jerry is a rock star in my world. Most of the time I worry about repair shops pulling one over trying to sell me a bill of goods. I have gotten to trust A1 so much I send my daughter and lady friends and buddies because I know he will be SUPER fair. He would have been able to charge for some small repairs and he tried to refuse payment on battery post cleaning for a lady freind.. Pulling a bumper out small amount on 4 x 4 but I told him as a small business man It costs money to run a business so I still demand to pay him. I have never had a more honest mechanic. He is now mechanic for all of my family and multiples of friends. When I read some of the 1 star reviews below I have to think knowing the A1 work ethic that must be someone had multiple pre existing problems that were exasperated by the problem he was addressing. I know if there is any trade that is a Murphy's law trade it is auto repairs. Give them a try and I doubt you will go anywhere else. I now live out of the area and drive to see him a fair distance because of his service and my trust of him. read more

I called ahead of time to make sure that they still did Smog Certification which they did. I spoke to a sweet man, Andre. Immediately I drove to the Repair Center and was greeted by Andre. I was in and out in less than 15min. Andre was so sweet and my Smog Certification was immediately transmitted to the DMV. I would highly recommend A-1 for any of your Smog needs. read more

Absolutely the best mechanic I've ever had the pleasure of giving my money to when my car refuses to keep working! I've brought my 2002 Saturn to him for at least 8 years, and he's been taking care of my friend's cars, as well. He's honest, and concerned about the cost of parts and the final bill, and just a great person. He'll do all he can to repair your car and make cost minded decisions in consultation with you. He'll give you options, if there are options, and let you decide before he spends your money. I worry that saying good things about him will crowd his shop with customers, and I won't be able to get my car in for care when it's broken, but if you're not going to Andre at A one auto, you're just spending too much for too little, and better he should be too busy.. read more

A-1 Auto Repair came on recommendation from a friend. The owner was prompt when I contacted him and when I brought the car in he quoted a very reasonable price to fix the water pump. He finished the job when he said he would and charged about what he had estimated. Overall, that part of the experience was good. Unfortunately, as soon as I left the shop and started driving down the highway, my check engine light came on. Additionally, the car was making a horrible creaking/grinding noise as I drove along (I never had that problem before the shop). I drove straight home and didn't drive the car again until I had a chance to investigate. From the codes I found misfires on all four of my cylinders and a VTEC warning. Before bringing the car in, none of these issues existed. I cleared the cylinder warnings and have not had issue with those since. The VTEC warning I'm still working on but am frustrated to have to fix something that was not broken before the shop. As for the awful noise, I have no idea what it is and I'm worried that it could be something serious. At the very least, its a terrible nuisance. In summary, I am very disappointed by the experience. The owner seemed nice enough but at the end of the day, my car had more problems coming out of the shop than going in. read more

DO NOT GO HERE. i have worked on cars for years, i know what im talking about. i couldn't sort out the repair myself because i was working. this guy charged me over $450.00 for repairs that didn't even fix the problem !! even after i had to have my car towed back TO HIM , 2 times right after he said it was fixed and ready for pick up BOTH times. after the 3rd time i got less than 4 blocks away , it broke down again! I had it towed to a trusted family mechanic in pasadena, Ends up, all my car need was a $75 throttle body cleaning.. A-1 has also ripped off other friends for hundreds, they too will never go to him again ! . STAY AWAY FROM THIS SHOP! BBB has been informed but for some reason he is still open to RIP you off.. out side of a no competence needed smog test, i say do not go here! these reviews must be from his family, and his nonchalant, arrogant attitude was disgusting. read more
