    General Gau's Wings
    Gary G.

Stand-alone building just off 290 seems to be primarily a watering hole. General Gau's Wings: Very small wings, practically pigeon-sized, but for $15 you get 10 connected drum-flat pairs, so that's 20 pieces at 75 cents each, which I consider a bargain. Fully coated in a sauce darker than your typical General, and with a bit of an oyster saucy feel. Good mix of sweet and spicy. Crisp exterior; fairly moist interior (tough to accomplish on such small wings, but they did). But most importantly, these wings had so much flavor under the sauce that they must've been marinated. I'm very eager to try their regular wings now. Near-elite. Sweet and Sour Chicken (on combo): Pretty standard fare. Crispness was okay, no puffiness, typical meat-to-batter ratio. Sauce a bit on the blush side of bright red, no gumminess, and sour mixed in with the sweet. Cherries and pineapples. A little above average. Pork Fried Rice (on the combo): Invitingly dark of color, but not as much on flavor. A bit sticky. Not dry, but close. Pork seemed to be the only inclusion (not an issue; just pointing it out for those who aren't into egg, onion, or bean sprouts). Average. Egg Roll (added to the combo for $1): Standard issue, old school design with mostly celery and some faintly colored pork specks. Crisp outside, kinda dry inside. A bit below average, but serviceable. While not a home run of a visit, enough good signs to warrant a return, especially to try wings and to see if the pork fried rice fares better on a night visit (when I can also partake in a mai tai).

4 pieces of Toro (fatty tuna) - the order was 6 pieces but we devoured two before I could snap a photo!

Updating with another must share - for Toro (fatty tuna) fans - you literally cannot get a more reasonable delicious Toro. We ate two pieces before I snapped a photo - so the order came with six pieces - and it was fantastic. And the price? $11.95. INSANE. We've payed twice as much for three pieces at other restaurants.

    Delicious Mai Tai here.

I really love this place. An easy off/on Rte 290. The food here is always fresh and perfectly seasoned. The Egg Rolls are the star of the show with the beef chow foon right behind it

This place is great!!! Mai-tais, pu-pu platters, pork fried rice!!! What else do you need! It's always the first stop when I'm in the area!

I love coming here. Jackie and Fu are great, the regulars are a lot of fun, and the drinks are strong. As far as the food goes, the Salt and Pepper Wings are great and the Philly Cheese Egg Rolls are also delicious.

Little surprise in a small town. Visited with family, Mai Tai was nice and strong on a cold night. Lo Mein was delicious, tried the pu pu platter as well. Did not let us down.

Disgusting food if they actually want to call it food. Like the cleaning people decided to cook for them. The worst excuse for Chinese food.

Awful. Ordered chicken chow mein. Tasteless, slimy, very little chicken, a glob of gel. Pretty poor.

We took our two younger ones there for a quiet Easter Sunday dinner together. So many interesting things on the menu, we way over ordered. But everything was delicious. We had the pork belly confit, the cheese bread, the octopus, and the parm wings to start. They were all polished off quickly. Our pork belly did seem to have missed a sauce, but we just dipped them with the cheesy bread sauce and was very happy. My son ordered a few different skews and thoroughly enjoyed his Picanha, sausage and cheese and chicken heart. My youngest said the chicken hearts were the best she had ever tried. High praise from a kid loving chicken heart since just a tiny tod. My wife and I both ordered the ribeye over mushroom risotto. We order medium rare and both of ours came perfectly done. Both our kids thoroughly enjoyed trying our steak and risotto. My daughter and I both enjoyed mixing my son's Yucca mash with the risotto. She practically scrapped my plate clean. We all had our eyes on the pineapple, but all agreed we were overstuffed and will defer to next time. We even had leftovers to bring home to one happy Puppy. Will definitely return!

For food we had the fish and chips and the regular cheese burger. The burger was 9/10! The bread was fresh the ingredients felt fresh and cooked to the temperature I asked. So, when a good friend called and told me that there was a new one that opened in Shrewsbury, it was off to the races. I had to experience this. Service: We got seated nearly instantaneously when we got in the door and the place was already quite busy by the time that we got there. My friend got a salad of some sort with a sandwich and I got one of their signature burgers. The waitress appeared in a timely fashion, took the orders, had drinks on the table in no time, and was very attentive to any and all needs. Ambiance: It was on a Saturday during sports season, so there was a lot of noise and chaos going on, but that is always how I remembered the Ground Round. It is NOT a restaurant that you are going to read a good book in. The fact that this restaurant also had high cathedral ceilings which increased the acoustics, made it a little more unbearable for people who like quieter spots. But to me and my friend, it was not a dealbreaker. Food: After all, what were we doing there for anyways, but the food? It was very good. She enjoyed her dish, and my burger was actually one of those "skyscraper" burgers that are impossible to grip with two hands or get into your mouth for a bite. After dining at the Ground Round again, I am moderately confident that I could take a bite out of the Prudential Center if the need arose. Don't get me wrong, the burger was tasty, juicy, and done to perfection, but it was yuuuuge. Overall, if I could give the Ground Round a 1/2 a star I would make my rating of them a 4 and a 1/2 stars venue. I will definitely be back and look forward to meeting my friend there again for lunch. :) -S
