I don't care what Chinese place I'm ordering from, I get the same thing. I call back after receivable the incorrect order and the order taker is rude with me. When I first moved to Davidson Co., my roommate suggested we order from this little place tucked away in a corner in a strip mall on West End. We ordered from there many times. Invariably, whenever we ordered, they would ask, always very loudly, "Do you know where we are?" and we would say yes, that we had been there many times. Invariably, they would always tell us, "We are in the corner." Things got more complicated when they moved to Charlotte Pike. They still always asked if we knew where they were, and we still told them yes, but they still told us "We moved. We're on Charlotte." This place could move across town and I would find them whichever corner or pike they were on. Moving from Cool Springs, where we had the much mourned Peking Palace, I was eager to find a Chinese restaurant to compare, and Dragon Garden is really the cream of the crop of take-out Chinese places. Their dishes are especially good if you ask for them extra spicy. It's never really spicy, but it just makes their food taste better. Ask for the vegetable spring rolls, because they are so much better than the pork ones. Dragon Garden also delivers, but it does take them a while, so I usually just pick up and if you do, your food is ready very quickly. I'm back to the living. We ordered from Dragon Garden a couple of months ago. The 3 of us felt sick after eating that night and the next day. The other night I read all the reviews again and decided to give them one more chance. Why would we order again? I like to give each place the benefit of the doubt so I never write a review without trying a business at least twice. This time we ordered: Vegetable lo mein Fried shrimp Crab rangoon Sweet and sour chicken Seafood combination The results: Vegetable lo mein - meh Fried shrimp - would you like a visit to the dentist? I don't. I tried to take a bite but it was so hard I cut it open, attempted to take a bite, couldn't and threw the entire bag away. ( The bag was so greasy I had to wash my hands after touching it.) Crab rangoon - tasted like old grease and was a weird yellow-orange color. ( crab rangoon is my favorite appetizer, but this was nasty ). Sweet and sour chicken - our grandson loves sweet and sour chicken but he thought this tasted "weird and greasy". He ate some of it because he was hungry but we woke up to the sound of him throwing up first thing the next morning. LOVELY. Seafood combo: what my husband ordered. ( When ordering over the phone I asked if the crab and lobster were real or imitation. She seemed insulted that I would even ask and assured me ALL seafood was the real thing.) My husband took one bite and let me know NONE of the seafood was real except the tiny shrimp so he went to throw it away. I stopped him, told him I wanted to taste it, had one bite and threw it in the trash. The next morning we woke up to our grandson throwing up. Get the idea? I have no personal vendetta against this restaurant.. Every word i wrote it true but NEVER AGAIN. I have been eating at Dragon Garden since i moved to Nashville in 2002 and they had a location on west end. I dont diversify a ton, so i've only really had the Sweet and Sour, sesame, and general tso's chicken. Each of those dishes is packed with flavor and delicious. The TSO is the best flavor i've ever had, which includes dining in NYC. I currently live in LA and can't get anything close to the flavor to curb my appetite. The lunch special is more than filling, and has a nice price of 3.99. Since i'm a long time customer, the staff is always extremely nice to me. The owner's children often work the phones, which can be a little frustrating if you call in. I've always either eaten there or gotten takeout, but i have heard from friends that delivery can take up to an hour and a half on some occasions. So i recommend the food highly, but pass on the delivery. read more

I first decided to try out Dragon Garden because it was very convenient to my house. I've gone back because the food is pretty good. I'm a Veggie Cho Mein and Veggie Fried Rice (1 pint each) kinda girl. The food is pretty much the same you get at any local Chinese joint, not really special, but good and close. I wouldn't suggest driving across town for it, but if you leave in West Nashville, or it's on your way home, definitely try it out. The prices are very reasonable. First, the food is perfectly fine. The shrimp toasts & egg rolls were tasty & everything we've gotten there is pretty good. The problem was the service & timing! I ordered online & was told the wait was approx. 25-30 min. Considering it was a Friday night, I expected it to be busy & take a little longer, so I arrived to pick up my order after about 35 min- was told my order wasn't ready. I figured that meant a few more minutes, which was fine. However, I then stood waiting for another 30 minutes in the cold! (They apparently had no heat, so it was about 40 degrees inside.) I scheduled a pick-up order so it would be quicker than delivery-that's the norm, right?! Basically, if you know that certain times are always busy, warn your customers that their order time will be doubled. Also, if someone arrives to pick up an order, tell them that it will be another half hour (I could have left & done errands in that time). Fine food, annoying experience. read more

My roommate (a New Yorker) and I used to live within walking distance of Dragon Garden and now we drive from Madison because their egg rolls are so good. Best egg rolls (they're made in-house and we get 6-10 every time), best shrimp Mai Fun, best sesame and General Tso's in Nashville. Our friends have ordered other dishes and said the same of those. The owners are great and welcoming people, so make the effort to pick up your order if you have the time and tip them well. They've certainly earned it! read more

Awful. Inedible. Ordered the beef and broccoli, fried rice, and orange chicken. The "beef" tasted like... I can't even explain it. Certainly not real meat. The orange chicken was just a saucy breaded disaster with barely any trace of chicken in it. We ordered take-out and I threw all of my food (and money) away after my second bite. My boyfriend hesitantly continued eating his meal and had a horrible stomach ache the next morning. Dine with caution. I will never even consider eating at this establishment again. read more

I just moved to Downtown Nashville, so I haven't tried many places yet, but I won't try this place again. I got the szechuan shrimp (extra spicy) and veg. egg rolls... the sauce was salty, but not spicy (although I guess salt IS a spice...), the shrimp were tiny and oddly grainy- like they were frozen for too long or something, and there was only ONE mushroom! All I can say is....wow. Just wow. Truly terrible food. I am far from a picky eater (and being a busy/broke grad student, I don't have time to be), but took a few bites and threw the rest away. I think this was the heavens' way of punishing me for my laziness. Didn't have problems ordering on the phone, although it was a little difficult because of the language barrier. Got Mongolian Beef and a side of hot and sour soup. Like someone else mentioned, the delivery guy was reallllly sweet. Didn't talk to him much, but the guy who delivered to me was a bit on the older side, looked like he had health problems, but was really so nice. Kind of broke my heart in a way (like when you see cute grandpas working at Walmart...). Opened up the bag. First off, the soup had exploded in the bag, covering everything else with soup (ended up being no loss haha). The Mongolian beef (should be beef + green onions) was beef + broccoli + white onion chunks and NO SAUCE. Not only that, the beef was literally the cheapest cut of meat I have ever seen. Thank goodness I was eating alone because I was literally spitting out half of each piece because they were inedible chunks of chewy fat. Sorry for that mental image, but it was as disgusting as it sounds! Hot and sour soup was basically....a container of congealed yellow, way overly salted jello. I asked for everything "extra spicy"....and apparently the only spice they had was salt. Even if it weren't tasty, I would have probably still eaten it just because I'm lazy/busy/don't want to cook. First of all I should admit that I am very picky when it comes to Chinese food. There are lots of Chinese restaurants that I refuse to eat at. Dragon Garden is kind of a hole in the wall but I will on occasion eat food from here. We always get take-out so I am not sure how the service is. (and they will deliver it to you free if you spend $15 or more.) The broccoli with the garlic sauce and the vegetable lo main are good. Husband got the vegetable egg foo young and couldn't eat it. We have ordered here for years and food has been ho-hum. For the most part the kids really liked it, but after last night we won't order again. I wasn't home when the food was delivered and the driver was very rude to my teens. He demanded a tip and then told them it was insufficient. I was mortified at this report. Upon removing the lids, the food appeared disgusting and gross. After tasting it, was even worse: mushy vegetables, broccoli nearly black. Robert Orr Cisco egg rolls with more doughy, uncooked wrapper than filling. The chicken with vegetables had brown salty gravy. The General Tso's was popcorn size chicken with bread stuck together in one big lump, same brown gravy. The egg drop soup was so old the eggs deteriorated into the metal tasting chicken broth, making it a thick clot. All so nasty, gave the entirety to the dogs. Beware! Awful. I went there on a first date last night. We were both in the mood for Chinese and had never been here so we went to check it out. We got there at around 9.30pm. The atmosphere was terrible. The owner was yelling at his wife the whole time, very loudly. And it didn't seem very sanitary. I ordered Shrimp in Lobster Sauce and my date ordered Cashew Chicken. We waited for our food while the yelling continued. Also it was extremely hot in there because there's no AC. When the food was ready the owner yelled at my date telling him to come get it. Then right as we sat down to eat, they told us they were closing and to leave. Their hours say they close at 10.30pm and it was around 9.50pm. (He had a night class and didn't get out until late.) We left and went to my house (again this was a first date!!). The Lobster Sauce Shrimp surprised us. It was just a large cup of barely cooked egg drop soup with 3 shrimp in it. Shrimp tasted like they had bad freezer burn. The Cashew Chicken that he ordered.... well he ate a little bit of it and said politely "Guess I wasn't as hungry as I thought." it looked better than what I got so I tried his. I ate a little and the chicken tasted like it was really old and the cashews were extremely mushy. It wasn't very expensive. Guess you get what you pay for. The owner delivered food to our business and was very rude to us as soon as he walked in slamming the food on the counter. We were confused about our total, when he arrived and he went off on us in front of clients yelling and saying "it's not a big deal it's only 2 dollars more!" and yelling the total at us. This is the second time I have ordered delivery from Dragon Garden on Charlotte Pike. Both destinations have been within 3 miles of the store. Both deliveries took one and a half hours. The food on the first delivery was really good so, it made up for the time it took to enjoy it. I can't say as much for the 2nd deliverys' food. There was a long curled metal wire in my Broccoli and Chicken...which tasted frezzer burned. The white rice that comes with the meal, didn't come in the deliver. The Vegetable Fried Rice was really good. The Won Ton Soup was really good at first, then started to smell and taste like Tea. ( strange, I know)...I paid for the order before delivery, the price was $18.46 and I tipped $5. Of course this transaction was before the food was delivered. So, no way to tip less....The delivery guy looked like a current drug addict and I am SO glad it was delivered to my job, I would not want this guy knowing where I live! I tried calling the store to inform them of my experience and forward them a photo of the metal wire so they can make sure more customers don't receive them, but when I asked for a manager or owner, I was told "small business, no manager, no owner, bye bye"....and they hung up on me. There will not be a third opportunity for my business. My advice would be to order from another place that values the customer that pays for their meal, full meal, metal free. read more

my office, located in st thomas hospital, ordered lunch to be delivered, and everything was fine, except that there was one item that was wrong in our order. i placed a call back to dragon garden to try to get the right item delivered, but the employee that answered the phone WOULD NOT COOPERATE! our conversation kept going in circles! over and over and over again! she wanted to exchange the wrong item for the right item (which they would have just thrown the wrong item away anyway. well, we HOPE that they would have just thrown it away anyway). i tried to explain to her that my coworker had already started eating the wrong item (good thing that she's not allergic to shrimp, like i am!), just because she only gets a 45 minute lunch. i explained that the right item should be delivered because my coworker was basically being forced to eat the wrong item in order to not run out of time on her lunch break. but, the employee wanted us to pay for the right item AGAIN, instead of simply delivering the right item, which was already paid for, to make things right. we already spent over $60 with dragon garden, including a $5 tip. no need to give them anymore money! needless to say, i, nor anyone else in my office, will be ordering anything from dragon garden, ever again. and, i will be spreading the word for no one else in my hospital to order from them as well... t read more

I WILL NEVER EVER ORDER FROM THIS PLACE AGAIN!!! AND NEITHER WILL MY OFFICE!!!! THE DELIVERY GUY ALMOST GOT VIOLENT WITH US OVER $2.00 CHANGE!!!!! PLEASE READ!!!!! My office (which has 30 women and 1 man in it) ordered from this restaurant to day - which was about 14 orders - and the delivery service was horrible. We called the restaurant back for him to speak with the woman there and he yelled and screamed refusing to speak with her one the phone. She could hear him screaming and yelling. He then started trying to walk up on people yelling and screaming about $2.00!!!!! $2.00 change!! To the point several people told him to back up because he looked as if he was going to hit someone or just start trying to fight everyone in the room. We finally had to tell him to leave or we were going to call security/the police. He got even louder over that telling us to call the police because we are trying to rob him of his gas money. Finally about 8 of us had to guide him towards the door for him to leave the office. Then the woman on the phone wanted to start arguing with the supervisor and dept manager over what had just happened. Needless to say they refused to give my coworker her change, the delivery guy took the wrong order back with him (we hope and pray they don't give it to someone else) and all of this over $2.00 and them messing up an order. Especially after seeing first hand the actions of the delivery driver OVER 2 FLIPPING DOLLARS....and the fact that they were insistent on taking back the wrong order. HORRIBLE customer service and very disrespectful driver! Someone placed an order to be delivered and when they called, the person that answered the phone told them that the person was on the way to pay to get the order. The driver was very rude and cussed the person and drove off with the order. Then called the restaurant to say what happened and they said the driver was mad and didn't want to deliver there anymore because they always have problems when they deliver there. this place should get a zero but i guess that's not an option. all of you giving them 4 or 5 stars are crazy and were probably drunk. i've ordered from them twice and each time was disgusting. i love chinese food, but this is crappy made, crappy service, crappy customer service over the phone, etc. first off, everything was poorly cooked. second, i ordered chicken and i dunno what they gave me, but it wasn't chicken. which scared me. it tasted like turkey or something--- and i've heard horror stories of chinese restaraunts and this might have been one of them. might have been cat. i'm not even kidding. it was really really nasty. my pork dumplings were undercooked both times, the dough was still squishy and uncooked. everything was horrible. but that chicken was really really scary. it was nasty. what a waste of money. oh and to make matters worse, i was sick the next morning. this is an all too common occurance, apparently because half of their reviews are horrible. i'm contacting the better business bureau and reporting them. this is horrible service and they need to learn a lesson or go out of business before they kill someone. literally. read more
