This was probably the most pleasant time I have had with a restaurant staff in a Chinese restaurant....ever. Everyone was very friendly. The food was typical of a Chinese-American casual restaurant. Eveything was good but certainly not fantastic. We ordered the Peking Duck which was pretty tasty and prepared two ways. The skin was crispy but I wished it was a bit warmer. This is the sit-down Chinese restaurant I've been searching for. Two things that surprised me right me right away. First, the decor is actually tasteful and interesting compared with the utilitarian look of most Chinese restaurants. My wife especially like the tea display. Second, the service is friendly and prompt whereas most Chinese restaurant seem to carry that weird indifferent attitude. I wouldn't say the food is "authentic", but it's good enough. My wife and I ordered fried pork dumplings for appetizer, and garlic eggplant with chicken and chicken pan fried noodles for entrees. The dumplings were deep fried rather than actually pan fried (leaving the rest of the dumpling wrappings "al dente"). Close enough. You probably won't see true pan fried dumplings unless you're in China town. The chicken were good cuts of white meat, which my wife really appreciate. Kudos for not skimping on traditional ingredients like shitake mushrooms and soybean stalk in the pan fried noodles. The flavor of the entrees were very good, and the portions were very generous. We got another meal out of the leftovers. Both my wife and I are looking forward to our next meal here. p.s. The wife and I were shopping and decided we wanted Chinese for lunch. We happened to drive by Dragon Gate and stopped for lunch. I found it odd to find the place completely empty at noon on a Saturday. It should have been a sign, but we just didn't really think about it that much. We ordered and were soon brought our soup, then glanced at each other simultaneously with the first taste. Both bowls were extremely cold (barely lukewarm actually). My wife pushed hers aside with plans to ask the waiter to have them heated, but he never returned to the table. I finally decided to eat mine anyway, but it was completely tasteless. Our waiter then brought our entrees to the table. I had Orange Chicken with fried rice, she had Kung Pao Chicken with white rice. Like the soup, BOTH meals were barely warm! By this time, there was only one other couple in the restaurant, so there's no reason it shouldn't have been served immediately after cooking. We waited a few minutes for the waiter to return, but again, he'd vanished. We finally decided to eat our meals cold, but I then found mine, like the soup, to be completely tasteless. It was so bland, I didn't even know what to try adding to it to add a bit of flavor. I glanced at the wife and after 2-3 bites, she pushed hers aside to join her cold soup. I followed suit and we then waited for the waiter to return, which again, did not happen. I guess he hangs out in the kitchen (?). When the waiter finally came back to the table, he seemed oblivious to the fact we had barely touched our meals and simply asked if we were ready for the check! We then asked for take-out containers and figured we'd take them home, doctor them up to add a bit of flavor and have them for dinner. For the record, we are in our late 60's, are VERY world traveled, have actually been to China and I personally lived in S. E. Asia for 5 years. Chinese food is one of our favorites and we know how it's supposed to taste. After a bit of discussion, we both agreed this was the worst Chinese food we've ever had. The only one worse was actually an AYCE buffet that turned out to be a terrible mistake. To make matters worse, the non-existent service and total lack of concern as to why our meals were barely touched, would most likely make this experience worse than the buffet as far as the overall experience is concerned. Reviews here seem to be all over the map, good and bad, but we will NOT be returning to find out if we just happened to be there on a 'bad day'. read more

The food here is incredibly tasty. I can see why they are rated so highly. I was in a meat mood - I wanted all meat, so I tried their roasted pork and their ribs (appetizers) and were pleasantly surprised. I ordered the house special lo mein to go with my meat (nom nom nom), but I think for future orders, I will stick with the house special fried rice (which my sister ordered). The house special lo mein/rice contains shrimp, beef, egg, pork and chicken - of course the type of meat in these dishes may vary by restaurants. Great chinese food in Pines! It was rated as the best by Channel 10 food survey as well. I usually order dishes from the special chinese menu. They also have a special menu which can change daily, as it is created by the chef. Service was prompt and friendly. We had the crab rangoons ( tastey though mostly cream cheese, which is common) and the pot stickers which were very good. We then had the orange peel chicken which was flavorful (it comes in different levels of spice- I got medium and it was not spicey at all but good, I'd suggest not getting weaker than medium because id guess it'd be bland). The sweet and sour chicken was typical (chicken served with the sauce on the side- good sauce, but I like sauces actually cooked in personally). We have eaten here many times. The service is usually very good. In my opinion this is the best chinnese food in southern Broward County. I always have the hot and sour soup. I get it extra spicy with pork. It's not watery , and it's loaded with meat and vegetables. We had crab ragoon I like that it's folded into triangles instead of made to look like a flower. I had general Changs chicken , I got it all white meat. It was not heavily breaded and the sauce had great flavor. We also got shrimp fried rice. This place is the BOMB.COM! Every time I walk in here the owners are super friendly and it's as if they know me personally, and he's funny too. The service is always good, and not to mention the food is absolutely delicious AND fresh. The egg rolls are not too impressive but that's okay because the meals make up for it. I always get the lo mein and it is easily the best lo mein I have ever had. The egg drop soup is great, too. Went here on Mother's Day (May 13, 2018) and they would not let you order the combination dinners off the menu (which they gave you) and stated that it is Al La Carte only for tonight (which was Mother's Day). What a rip off to take advantage by making you spend more money just because it's Mother's Day. I was with four people and if I could get the combination dinners like we always do, it would have cost me &43.00 but by ordering Al La Carte it cost me $65.00. It really makes me upset when you patronize a local business in your neighborhood all the time and they stick it to you on Mothers Day. I do not feel this is a good way to do business at all. I've been a customer of dragon gate for the last 10 years and have never had a bad experience. I've dined in, ordered delivery, ordered takeout, all good! Nelson is the best waiter I have ever met! He really cares about his customers and will even remember your order! Anna is the best delivery driver ever, very sweet and kind. The restaurant has been open for over two decades now and Im glad I found them. Their fried rice is the best! Chicken wings and egg rolls are delicious, not too heavily fried. their house steak was my fave dish before I became vegetarian. Now I love their fried tofu with red pepper sauce. They have a lot of vegan/vegetarian options. The restaurant is always clean and the food always tastes fresh. When you dine in, you are served fried chow Mein noodles with their house made duck sauce and mustard along with house made oolong tea! All complimentary! The place can get pretty busy for delivery on the weekend so it's sometimes usual to wait a little over an hour to receive your order so plan ahead! I also love their annual Chinese New Year celebration. The restaurant is authentic and owners are very friendly, I'm glad they keep the traditions going. read more

My family has always enjoyed Dragon Gate for so many years. We decided to have dinner there the other night. We heard there were new owners and wanted to give it a try. First let me start off by saying the waiter came over and placed 2 bags of crispy noodles on the table. Both were in bags and also placed little packages of duck sauce and hot mustard on the table. This is usually given to you if you order takeout. We both looked at each other like why ?? My husband and I ordered shrimp with Chinese vegetables and chicken with mushrooms and egg rolls. The egg rolls came out dripping in grease ugh. The the 2 dishes came out not too bad but pretty flavorless and they used canned mushrooms. Not at all something we've ever had there before. We found the food to be below average and won't be returning again which is sad because we like supporting local businesses but the new owner needs to realize you can't serve food like that. I have been a customer at Dragoin gate for almost 20 years - last year the business was sold and the new owners are cheaping out on the food. The portions are way smaller and the food has lost a lot of taste making me think that the microwave is doing a lot of the cooking. The service is good but very rushed with everyone seemingly having to do multiple things at once. In years past the restaurant was pretty full for lunch and dinner now only a couple of tables. BUT the VIP dining room behind the door gets heaping food - we can all see the steam rising so know it is well cooked - and lots of it. Celebrated my cousin inlaws 45th birthday at Dragon Gate, he said their food was good. And he was right. It was 11of us we ordered family size and shared. We started with green tea and soup cause we were cold from being caught in the rain. I got the chicken hot and sour soup it was delicious filled with mushrooms, tofu and just the right amount of spice. We order the chicken fried rice it was good just the right texture of rice and chicken. The vegetables fried rice was also good but it could of used a little more vegetables. The sweet and sour chicken was good at other restaurants usually it is full of batter then meat, but not in this case and the sweet and sour sauce is on the side. The chicken and broccoli was good as well tender chicken, broccoli soft yet crunchy just how I like it. Horrible customer service combined with a bad attitude. They don't even deserve the One star. We ordered food for delivery and the girl told us that it's going to be an hour, however; after an hour and 10 minutes I called them to see why is the food delayed, she told us that she was going to call the driver to see where he is and call me back, which never happened. So 10 minutes later when I called her back to see what's going and why I never got a call back, she put me on hold and when she got back online, she informed me that the driver has just left. At that point it was already 15 minutes past the promised 1 hour and it's a 15 minutes drive from our house. We decided that we weren't going to pay for the order because by the time the driver would've gotten here, it would've been over 30 minutes late and we decided that it was unacceptable to wait for that long for food. I asked to talk to the owner at that point but to my surprise he was extremely rude and was trying to justify their mistake and turned the whole scenario against me that it was our fault because we said that we weren't going to pay for it once it got here, so he just cancelled the order and turned the driver around. You expect rudness and bad attitude from staff but not from a business man who is the owner who should be hospitable and big on customer satisfaction instead of argumentative and trying to justify his mistske by turning it against paying customers!!!! read more

I have been patronizing the restaurant since I moved here about 5 yrs ago. The food is decent and service is typically fast and courteous. Very disappointed at last visit. I asked for fried wontons to go with my egg drop soup. I was told that I could not have fried wontons with my soup. I notice that two tables near me have fried wontons on their table. She stated that they ordered them separately and they come in an order of twelve (although one table had a much smaller order) for $6. Well an order of 12 works well for the table of 5 people. I just want 2or 3 for my soup. Can you charge me for that? The answer was no. Now that is just not smart business. So you lose the money I was going to pay for the soup and the 2-3 wontons. Smh. I have been coming to Dragon Gate for years, and it is THE best Chinese restaurant in Pembroke Pines. My family and I have it a tradition to visit Dragon Gate atleast once a week to enjoy our family dinner. We always order the Salt and Pepper Shrimp which is lightly breaded, fried and sauteed with salt and pepper, bell peppers and onions. It is simply delicious!! Since there are many little ones in our family, we love to order the Chicken Udon noodles as it is a favorite amongst the kids. As much as I love they take out food I can no longer stand the rude staff. I mean we have been ordering from them for years!! Now the food has changed and the attitude... How can you make a customer happy if you answer the telephone with a nasty attitude like you angry you're taking an order?? I don't understand places like that. I'm just now disgusted with the service they provide. I would have given one star but nope two stars stands. Note to dragon gate whether you know it or not being friendly is a wonderful way to keep long standing customers. A phone call doesn't even last that long.
