We dined at Dragonfly for an early dinner while we stayed at the Hotel Zaza. Our reservations had us seated immediately and we placed an order for cocktails from the extensive craft cocktail menu. As we enjoyed these, we shared the Curious Traveler, a sampler of lamb lollipops, crispy Brussels, and deviled eggs. For our meal, it happened to be DFW Restaurant Week and we selected choices from the four-course menu. The Summer Salad, Sesame-Crusted Ahi Tuna, and Half-Rack of Lamb were superb. We finished with the Cappuccino Creme Brûlée and another round of cocktails and left quite satisfied. The service, ambience, and cuisine were all top-notch. Imagine walking into a beautiful antique looking restaurant with one of the best ambiences to match. The servers did their job to a T, never allowing the water to reach halfway empty. Then the food comes out looking like pieces of art, each with their own charm. Then you decide the dig in, and it tastes like a piece of fucking cardboard. My girlfriend and I had an anniversary dinner here, and we were told that everyone loves the food. To its credit, the place was chalk full of young professional people. We ordered tuna nachos, and we got 4 chips with unseasoned tuna and arugula. The main was perhaps even more disappointing. I ordered the ribs, and it seems like the chef is allergic to seasoning. When I say there wasn't any seasoning, I quite literally mean the piece of meat tasted like nothing. My girlfriend got the poke bowl that was a repeat of the tuna. You can get better at any other poke place. This place is horrible for food but great for ambiance. For the price, this place sucks and I will never be back. read more

The burrata toast was an amazing make your own take of bruschetta elevated with cherry tomatoes so juicy you had to keep the napkin prepped. The tuna with the spicy mustard dressing was the perfect light yet hearty start to a fantastic meal.... Perfect share for 2 or as part of a group share. 8 oz filet, whipped potatoes: Classic filet done to perfection and whipped potatoes that leave you sorta never wanting to let the plate slip away. It was thst sorta night. Kudos to the chef. Drinks: Spiced Old fashioned: Great spiced spin on a classic cocktail. I prefer Buffalo trace when available. Our first night at the hotel we wanted to experience all that the hotel had to offer and we dined and suffered at The Dragonfly. The chocolate martini was sub par. The brussel sprouts as an appetizer were nothing but char and zero flavor. We knew at this moment we were likely in for disappointment. We considered leaving, had a conversation with our lovely server... I wish I could recall her name, and bravely made our choices. I ordered the braised short ribs and I have a few words bland, bland, bland. Where is the flavor? What do they have against seasoning? Is the Dragonfly also the restaurant for hospital food? I am truly at a loss. The restaurant has such amazing ambience you think you are in for a culinary adventure. The menu LOOKS fun and adventurous but the flavor is a snooze. If you do decide to eat there, take a trip to the local Kroger and pick up some spices and put them in your purse and season your own plate. Otherwise, just don't. Dear Dragonfly, Thank you for rectifying what could have been a difficult situation for me. I truly appreciate Mariana for coming through and helping me out in a tough spot. On a frigid night, when the restaurant said the outdoors was open for business, she accommodated me to the empty patio and turned on the heatlamps, even though no one else was around. Ok, I know it may have seemed crazy being outdoors in two coats but I have my reasons. Being a loyal Zaza and Dragonfly customer, I always appreciate the attention to detail and the little things that make for such an amazing consumer experience, and I'm thankful to have had the opportunity to explain a few concerns and get an immediate response from people who really care about their patrons, regardless of how much or little money they spend at this establishment. I loved how it felt like we were in a fancy restaurant from the 80's. it felt out of a movie the way we walked into the hotel zaza to get the restaurant. our server was so sweet and recommended us her favorite drink on the menu. Went to the dragonfly for a Mothersday Breakfast with my family. We got to the restaurant at 9 AM it was very empty only 4 to 5 tables full tops. We are told that all the big tables that accommodate 4 adults and 2 kids are reserved so our only option is to sit at a very small high top table. Which is unfortunate because my mom has a back problem making it difficult for her to get into the tall chairs. My youngest son is 2 and needs a highchair and the highchair they brought us was so much shorter than the hightop table we couldn't even see him below the tabletop. We would have been ok with all this if the place would have been as booked as they described but we were there for over an hour and the restaurant was just as empty when we left as when we got there. We talked to the manager and showed him a picture of the empty six-seater table right next to us that was empty the whole time we were there and he said "they cancelled." So I showed him a picture of the FOUR other six-seater tables that were also empty the entire duration of our time there and he said "I have no explanation for that." Pretty sure that's your job to have an explanation. Service wasn't great we sat there for 40 mins with just our drinks and no food which is why I was particularly upset when he said the empty table next to us canceled because the hostess and our waiter had plenty of time to ask us if we would like to move to the bigger table considering my youngest who was in the highchair was literally below the table line and it looked pretty awkward. I was sent in to do restaurant/bar review by an independent outside company. The staff at the bar were very welcoming and friendly. The bar manager even pulled out my chair for me. I did some light bites and a few drinks and loved it all. A bit overpriced in my opinion but Hotel Zaza is on the super expensive side as well so they have to keep up. Very quick to bring out the food and the lamb chops were amazing as are the dumplings. I would return again for sure. Limited space so don't try to bring a large group but fun and inviting atmosphere for a pre-dinner drink. read more

Wow! Seriously some of the best steak I have ever eaten. While staying at Hotel Zaza on 8/26/16, Brian and I decided to go downstairs to check out Dragonfly. The dining room is beautiful but noisy in the bar area. Luckily, we were seated in the more private back dining room. While trying the bread basket (the jalapeno cheddar bread is delicious) Brian P. and I opted for the Butcher Block ($130) which came with three steaks and a side. Our meal began with a goat's milk cracker which was comprised of a goat's milk ricotta, spanish chorizo and mirco greens. Next, came the butcher block. Our server, Christopher, who was fabulous, explained each one. First was a hanger steak, topped with thick, smoky bacon. The next steak was a marinated strip steak which was delicious. The last steak was a huge ribeye topped with pickled beets. The steak, especially the strip steak, was so delicious that I told our server that I couldn't have dessert because I wanted to keep that steak taste in my mouth for the rest of the night. If you can make the trip to Dragonfly and try their steaks, you won't be disappointed. read more

This restaurant is located in the swanky Hotel ZaZa. Unfortunately it should stop being a restaurant and just make it a bar. Two decades ago this was the happening spot to come to. It is definitely not anymore. The food and service are beyond pale. Two of us ordered the short ribs and both were lukewarm to cold, dry and served with the hardest Brussel sprouts I have ever had to cut. Also the Prosecco is overpriced. The shoestring fries were good but so are the ones at McDonald's. We had to flag down our waiter each time we needed something and the place is not that big. Any establishment that tries to be upscale but then has to hire one of Dallas' uniform police officers each night they have a DJ should rethink their marketing. Just call it a club and be done trying to serve lobster, filets and Brussel sprouts that are overpriced and underwhelming. The table next to us consisted of 4 guys in baseball hats. One of them had his hat turned backwards and kept swigging out of his long neck beer bottle while tipping back in his chair. Swanky? So yesterday we celebrated a birthday party and I need to say that I am really amazed how the manager controlled the situation, my friend had some personal issues and got there an hour late, they still gave us the table and arranged everything to make us feel as comfortable as posible. He also brought a nice little piece of candy that the chef made that day, special! I ordered two scallops. It came with the carrot risotto. It was good! The risotto was so unique. I loved it, actually more than I liked the scallops. The scallops were a little chewier than I like, but that's personal preference. My friends ordered the sumac lamb lollipops and they loved it. So sad to post this review, however needed to be said. Disappointed doesn't begin to express my review. Now, I understand a menu being limited given the pandemic, and difficulty having staff, yet what happened to Dragonfly? Apps okay, Salad, okay. I opted for the filet, cooked perfectly, asparagus, good, potatoes, nothing special. All in all, not the Dragonfly I knew before for sure. Nothing special to rave about for sure. Comparison to chain restaurant dining is appropriate The atmosphere well this is beyond description. A sign posted words a dress code, of sorts, think business casual at the VERY least. Now, I understand it is your right to your own fashion expression, yet, in what was once one of "the" top, chic and "it" places to stay and dine, has turned into a laughing stock of unruly patrons and wardrobe malfunctions at the ready. One woman disturbed our dinner, and distracted other patrons She approached our table and was wanting to chat. She was a bit playful initially, then her attitude turned around horribly! It was like a light switch. She became belligerent, forceful, argumentative and insulting. With absolutely NO provocation from us. Dressed in worn stained, ill fitting jeans and a graphic tee shirt, she could not have been more annoying. This was at the end of our meal, thankfully, so we just got up and left. Many more women were dressed so poorly. They were literally exposing themselves. Seriously? And I mean literally, exposing themselves. One, her shorts were so short and loose, everything was out (yes, everything) Another, well let's just say, her top, adjusted, constantly, throughout her meal wasn't strong enough to contain her girls. She was facing our table and impossible not to see. So we just laughed it off. And laughed & laughed. Again, not the "dress" that one expects going to a Dallas "top" spot. Some men, as well were noticeably not dressed in a manner once seen in a few years past. I see others have posted similar experiences. In conclusion, if we wanted to have dinner on the beach, or a rock festival we would have opted for that. Wanting to dress up for an evening out with friends or have an outstanding culinary experience that once was? Skip Dragonfly. However, if you want to have an evening of entertainment, people watching, Hit it up! This was a staycation for my husbands and our friends so Zaza was a great spot to choose. Poolside was fun! The Dragonfly staff was very attentive & we had excellent interactions with many from Thursday-Sunday. Zaza staff as well. Not their fault the clientele is allowed to come as you are. So the sign about "proper attire" needs to go if they are not holding patrons to higher standards of a fine dining experience. May return to Zaza for a stay and enjoy their poolside, but dining will be off property for sure read more

We ate dinner here on our first night at the Zaza as we were tired, it was late, and most importantly, it was downstairs. I had the pappardelle and my husband had a pork chop. I actually think my pasta was the winner. The red sauce was so meaty and flavorful, and the pasta was clearly homemade. YUM.. It was a large portion and I ate the rest for breakfast :-) We shared the Brussels sprouts which were sweet and spicy - delicious. Service was excellent and the wine list had some great options. Would definitely return for dinner. We returned for breakfast twice and I was underwhelmed by the migas and the smoked salmon bagel so I'd skip breakfast here but service was again very friendly and attentive. read more

Upon a recommendation from friend, I came to Dragonfly on a Tuesday afternoon to get a few drinks. Located in the trendy Hotel Zaza, Dragonfly is a really cool and snazzy bar that attracts the yuppie crowd. The venue alone is worth the trip as it has the look of a high end 80's bar in Miami. The windows in the bar look right into the really nice pool area, which only adds to the aesthetics of the place. They have a pretty good spirit selection and the bar area is huge. The drinks themselves are ok, certainly nothing special. I had an old fashioned and one of their other cocktails which were both just ok. However the main plus is that they have a large variation of all spirit types. Overall I'd say it's worth it to try this place based on atmosphere alone. Seems like a place that would be a lot of fun on Friday and Saturday night. Had a great "staycation" at Hotel Zaza. There are so many amazing things about this hotel. One of them is the restaurant- Dragonfly. The decor is just like the rest of the hotel- Upscale, chic and boutique. For breakfast I ordered the Crab Cake eggs Benedict. Picture this- it was a piece of Texas toast, with a bed of spinach as the foundation. Then a baked crab cake with perfectly poached eggs and hollandaise sauce on top. They served it with 2 baked potato skins with small chunks of bacon and cheddar cheese, a couple strips of asparagus and a Greek salad complete with feta cheese. This was absolutely the best brunch meal I have ever had! It was so good, I rushed down the next morning to get the same thing again! Also worth mentioning was the incredible service we got from everyone we came in contact with at the hotel, especially the manager, Brant. He is a true gentleman and made sure we had everything we needed. I can't say enough about this hotel, the service or this incredible meal. Thank you hotel Zaza!! I made dinner reservations at Dragonfly on a Monday night to celebrate my birthday. We arrived at 7:30 and were immediately seated in their lovely dining room. The restaurant is truly stunning. Dark and sexy, the chandeliers and artsy photos of celebrities on the walls lend a sultry vibe to the place, while the white tablecloths and long-stem wine glasses on the tables keep it classy. We were seated in a cozy corner of the back room, and when we requested the regular dinner menu (as opposed to the Restaurant Week menu) we were accommodated. Among the four of us we tried a lot of different dishes. Some highlights were the Green Veggie Handkerchief Pasta (fresh, handmade pasta in a scrumptious cream sauce) and the garlic mashed potatoes. We also tried several of their salads (all delicious) and the Ahi Tuna Tacos (which were just all right). One particularly unique flavor was the basil-infused watermelon that was served with my father's chicken dish. Definitely worth ordering if it's on the menu when you visit. For dessert, we shared the Lemon Basil Creme Brûlée (served with white chocolate chip blueberry cookies) and the Berries, Fruit & Edible Flowers. The creme brûlée was certainly unique, but the cookies were underwhelming and cloyingly sweet. The berries were $10 for a few raspberries, blackberries and cantaloupe, not really worth it. The service was good if not stellar (coffee was not refilled, bread request went unfulfilled) but when the server heard it was my birthday he comped one of our desserts, which was very sweet. Overall, it was a nice place to celebrate a special occasion. Some of the food was excellent while other items were not. Picture me sitting near the glass top pool, drunk as a skunk, and I notice a Gentleman wearing designer suit that probably cost more then my car. Well The DJ is spinning, the fists are pumping, the ladies are dancing (away from him) and I notice he was dancing on the glass top pool with a drink in his hand. So of course I get up with my drink and two step. It was raw as hell, I laughed and giggled falling over asking him if I can dance with his glass. Apparently this did not go over well but my boys had my back. Over the years I have matured a bit and stopped wetting my pants and now enjoy the scene without exhibiting Frat like boy behavior. Yes I said Frat boy because I get crazy like one. I wish I could say I morphed into a calm Britney Spears talking about the spawn movie and time travel when consuming alcoholic beverages. I strongly believe I would be more fun and less stressful when it's time to explain to the management why I am climbing on top of the balcony yelling O'doyle Rules" So now I have grown up a bit and only indulge in maybe a few pelvic thrusts at the bar. and pretty much chillax. I have enjoyed many dinners here and love everything the kitchen prepares. Recently just consumed the steak and mac and Ahi Tuna Tacos. High five they were delish. I ordered the crab benedict and was pretty disappointed in terms of flavor. The crab cake was hella dry and the wilted spinach accompanied with it did not match at all. If I'm paying that much for food, I would expect the quality to match up.
