Update review: responding to the owner…read more I want to correct several points in this response because your company's internal notes do not accurately reflect what occurred in our home. First, I have never disputed that the capacitor tested poorly and needed replacement. That is not the issue. The issue is how the overall service was presented. We called for an intermittent ticking noise while our AC was cooling properly. Multiple components were presented as the solution associated with that concern, yet the original noise was not properly identified or resolved. That distinction matters. Second, your statement regarding the refrigerant does not reflect what was communicated to us. My husband knew the price per pound. Cost was not the reason he limited the refrigerant. He specifically asked your technician how much refrigerant the system needed, and the technician responded that he did not know and told my husband to tell him when to stop. My husband stopped him at two pounds because he was being asked to authorize an unknown quantity without being given a clear target. We strongly dispute any documentation suggesting otherwise. Third, although your technician mentioned a possible leak and used electronic detection equipment, no leak was located. Your own subsequent visit also failed to locate a leak. The independent company we hired has likewise been unable to identify the leak your original technician suspected. That company has had to continue diagnosing and monitoring the system. Saying that additional refrigerant was later provided "at no charge" also does not erase our concern about how the original service was handled. By that point, our home was experiencing cooling problems that did not exist before the original appointment, and our family had already incurred additional expenses, including two nights in a hotel with our minor child. Regarding the signed paperwork, this is also part of our dispute. The documents were presented electronically and scrolled through for signatures. The technician's detailed narrative was not individually reviewed with us before signing. Therefore, repeatedly referring to a signature does not resolve our disagreement about what was actually said and communicated during the appointment. We have never asked Alvarez for financial gain. We asked for a reasonable refund so that we could apply those funds toward properly addressing the system with the company now assisting us. We were even willing to discuss Alvarez retaining the reasonable cost of components that were actually necessary. I understand that Alvarez chooses to stand behind its technician and internal documentation. We stand behind what actually occurred in our home. Those are two different accounts, and repeating the company's notes publicly does not make our experience untrue. We contacted your company for a noise not because our home was hot or because our AC had stopped cooling. What followed was a confusing, sales-driven experience, disputed documentation, refrigerant added without a clearly communicated target, additional service visits, additional expenses, and ultimately a loss of confidence in your company. We attempted to resolve this privately and requested what we believed was a reasonable resolution. Alvarez declined. At this point, I will not continue debating the same facts publicly. I stand by my review and my account of our experience. Any remaining dispute can be addressed through the appropriate consumer-protection and dispute-resolution channels.

This company renovated two bathrooms and hooked up our brand new kitchen 2-1/2 years ago. I am a…read morelicensed contractor and had to foster new relationships with vendors because I was 4 hours away. The tech was mildy experienced and hooked up may items incorrectly which we had fixed at our own expense. The most recent being the master bath shower pan that was not done to code for two reasons. The first reason was there were no dam corners above the curb as required by the Florida building code.  Dam corners are put in so if there is ever a leak where the shower enclosure penetrations are, everything stays protected.  This is evidenced in the 2023 Florida building code chapter 27. They really need to educate themselves.   Also, this pan should've been pre-pitched with either a Styrofoam liner or with floor mud before the pan was put down. This is Florida building code and is the way that I do it in my business every day.  Placing a shower pan directly against raw concrete without a proper slope, almost certainly leads to a pan failure. Water will pool beneath or inside the pan, rotting the surrounding structure, fostering mold, and compromising the waterproof seal which is exactly what happened.    I paid them to do this correctly and I had assumed that it would be in accordance with the Florida building code. I was not living there and was not able to be there to supervise.   When I contacted them, Luis argued with me and told me that it was done correctly, the same way he did when he hooked up our Alkaline Water machine where it was reversed, and the Alkaline Water was coming out of the small spout where you couldn't even fit a cup under. He actually called me "picky."  I have never, in my 37 years, doing kitchen and bathroom remodels, called a client picky for wanting something to work as designed and intended. I requested a refund on what was paid orginally (not the amount to rip everything out, pay for a proper pan to be done, and re-tile. That cost will be over $10,000.00. Their response is as listed below: Thank you for reaching out to us. We have received your request for a refund regarding the shower pan installation completed at your Tampa condo in December 2023. As a General Contractor and fellow industry professional, I believe you can appreciate the operational standards necessary to maintain the integrity of a specialized trade like plumbing. Because of our respect for your professional background, we want to address your concerns with complete transparency. Our standard service warranty on labor is one year from the date of completion. As this project was completed over two and a half years ago, it is well outside our established warranty window. More importantly, our records and your recent correspondence indicate that another contractor has already opened and manipulated the work area to perform their own diagnosis and remediation. From a protective and liability standpoint, it is impossible for us to honor or evaluate a warranty claim once another party has touched the work. In our industry, it is unfortunately common for a competitor to attempt to discredit previous work to justify their own scopes. Because we were not given the opportunity to inspect the issue first-hand in its original state, we cannot verify the conclusions drawn by a third party. That being said, we truly value the long-standing relationship we've built with you. Because you are a VIP customer, we are willing to offer a professional courtesy that reflects that status. While we cannot issue a refund for work that was accepted and remained functional for over two years, we would be happy to send a senior technician to look at the issue and suggest a root-cause fix. Had a new fridge put in and the guys who put in the new fridge said they couldn't touch the water line of the old fridge and that the valve from the wall needed to be replaced so that the water line from the new fridge could be connected, and to call plumbers for that. We called them and they arrived an hour earlier than their estimated time range. Long story short, the plumber guy said replacing the valve in the wall wasn't necessary and the hose from the valve could be connected to the new fridge. He said this to me like I was a moron, which I don't know much about plumbing, so I'm probably a moron when it comes to that stuff. But the way he said it and looked at me rubbed me the wrong way. He then puts a fitting thing on the fridge hose and connects it to the valve hose coming from the wall. It takes him maybe a minute to do this. He tells me it's gonna cost $340 or something close to that. I ask why so much for having done so little, he said he had to drive forty minutes and says it like it makes total sense and I'm the idiot for asking such a stupid question. Which I just bought 2 weeks ago so money isn't overflowing. The only issues I had was the price, it was $555.00 to replace the heating element (a $30 part although they spent 2 hours) and/including a 3% charge ($16.00) using my debt card. I know this is a common practice but had I know I would have gone to the bank. The price was awfully high and although the guys were good and did get my hot water back, I will have to search around next time if I can wait on the issue.

He came out on Tuesday (12/16) and advised that the leak was coming from the tank and he would need to go to the supply house to pick up the necessary part and come back the next day because he didn't have it on his truck. I was OK with that. He calls me Wednesday (12/17) morning to tell me that the guy at the supply house ordered the wrong part and that he would have it Thursday morning. Come Thursday morning he calls me and tells me that he must have written down the wrong part # (rookie mistake !). He asked me to give him some #s off of the toilet tank -inside and on the lid. I took several pics and texted them to him all the while remaining very patient. He advises me later that he got the right part from the supply house and that he would swing by in the afternoon after he handled a couple of jobs. So around 2:15 on Thursday (12/18) I get a text saying that he is on his way to Brandon (where I live also) to install a toilet and he would call me once he was done and on the way. About then, my patience started to run out. I texted him suggesting to him that he come to my house first and bump the other person in Brandon after he takes care of me. I told him that it was only right because of what had happened the last few days was not my fault-why should I keep getting pushed to the back of the line??? He texted me back to say that he was no longer able to do anything for me and that I should call another plumbing outfit. I was very disappointed in how he handled this matter to say the very least. He should have done his best to make things right. They certainly didn't do everything they should have because after a week we were met with a bunch of error codes and the system would not run for more than a few days at a time, which quickly became frustrating. The old plumber suggested refitting the pipe and a complex solution that made me wonder if there was a better way to do it. After calling a few plumbers who did not want to inherit someone else's mess, I got a hold of Ivy Plumbing and they could not have been more friendly. Put my mind at ease that they've dealt with these situations before and would do their very best to take care of it. The tech came out and did an assessment, and the quote for repairs was a third of what the original plumber quoted and much less complicated. We haven't had any issues since and I am so happy I went with Ivy. They are professional, take pride in their work and display the highest levels of customer service.
