This was…read moreactually the first place where I was introduced to shabu shabu, and it's what started my love for this type of food. I remember it being really affordable back then, but of course prices have gone up over the years. These days, the cheapest small size is around $22-$24, which isn't shocking with inflation and higher wages. One thing that hasn't changed, though, is the tiny cup of ice cream they give you at the end of the meal, which is a nice little touch. The seating is all bar-style, which can feel a bit overwhelming if you're an introvert like me and prefer having your own space. That said, it's not uncomfortable. People mostly keep to themselves, and the servers don't bother you much either. They'll check in once in a while to see if you need anything, but they're not constantly hovering. What really stands out to me about this place is the goma sauce. When it's done right, it's seriously good--rich, nutty, and super flavorful. Honestly, it's one of the best goma sauces I've had, and it makes the whole meal that much better. Even after all this time, that sauce alone reminds me why this place left such a strong impression on me in the first place.

The meat is always high-quality and consistent, but my favorite part is what they do once you're done with the meat...they make your leftovers into a flavorful ramen bowl! Highly recommend!

I can understand how business owners, managers, servers, and customers are all caught within the vicious fluctuations of markets and so on. However, what I was recently served at Kaizen Shabu last week was, to my mind, an egregious example of a restaurant offering well below the bare minimum of what should be expected for the prices listed (and my photos will show this, I believe). At the outset, I want to say I have no grievances with the servers. Our server was kind, attentive, and was elegantly multitasking. Bravo. Now, the food: we ordered the salmon "sashimi" plate, and what we were handed was a platter of the thinnest, grainiest, obviously-thawed and poorly sliced salmon I've ever eaten in my life. I was a bit shocked. At Cal Shabu Shabu (and other shabu places I tend to frequent more often), sashimi is... sashimi. It *looks* like sashimi because it IS sashimi: a piece of salmon purchased by the restaurant and knife-cut into appropriate portions depending on what portion size the customer has ordered. It is sashimi that gleans in the light, where the striations of fat and tissue are visible to the naked eye on the fish itself. As you can see from my photos, we were served paper-thin salmon that I could barely peel off of the plate with my chopsticks without ripping the fish into smaller, grainier pieces. It was all but inedible, in my opinion. This is not sashimi, and to serve such a thing for the price listed is beyond atrocious: it is an outright deception. Now, onto the side of veggies and noodles that come with every order of meat or fish. Perhaps the cooks could not be bothered, but what I received was broken tendrils of 2-inch udon haphazardly thrown into a bowl. I'm not sure if this is an issue with the chefs, with a dwindling supply of food nearer the end of the night, or if this restaurant truly does not care about the quality of what they are serving customers. Again, I think my pictures speak for themselves. I used to love coming here as the atmosphere was chic, and the servers are so kind. After my last dining experience, however, I cannot justify the price of my bill in the face of the quality of the food I am being served. I won't be returning, sadly. I hope the manager has an opportunity to look at these photos and perhaps reassess what can be done to improve what they are serving their customers.

If you love Korean BBQ and like having lots of choices, this place has a really good AYCE selection. They have brisket, beef belly, bulgogi, pork belly, spicy pork, chicken, shrimp, octopus, sirloin steak and more. If you choose Premium, you get even more options like short rib, lamb and ribeye. And of course, one of the highlights for us was the beef tongue! Our whole family LOVES beef tongue, so we were very happy to see it here. We like to grill it until the edges are slightly crispy and eat it right away while it's hot. So good! They also have lots of Korean sides and appetizers to enjoy between rounds of meat, including japchae, fried rice, kimchi fried rice, soft tofu soup, corn cheese, fried gyoza, chicken wings, ramen and more. The AYCE prices when we visited were: (Aug 2026) Lunch - $23.99 Regular - $29.99 Premium - $39.99 Lunch is Monday-Friday from 11:00 AM-3:30 PM, excluding holidays. For all the choices you get, I think the prices are pretty reasonable, especially if you come hungry! Another fun thing about this restaurant is that a robot brings the food right to your table! Our kids thought it was fun, and honestly, I did too. It definitely makes the whole Korean BBQ experience a little more interesting. I also really liked how clean and well-maintained the restaurant was. The dining area felt clean and comfortable, which is always important to me when we're eating out with the family. The service was great too! The staff was friendly and attentive, and they kept coming by to change our grill plate throughout the meal. Anyone who eats Korean BBQ knows how much of a difference that makes -- no one wants to cook fresh meat on a completely burnt grill! We really appreciated that they stayed on top of it without us having to keep asking. Dining time is 120 minutes, which gave us plenty of time to grill, eat, talk and enjoy everything without feeling too rushed. Of course, we still kept saying, "Okay, this is our last round..." and then somehow another plate of meat showed up. That's Korean BBQ for you! Overall, we had a really nice family dinner here. Lots of meat choices, plenty of side dishes, beef tongue, fun robot service, a clean environment, and attentive staff. We definitely left VERY full and happy! If you're looking for an AYCE Korean BBQ spot around Santa Ana/Orange County, I think this one is worth checking out. We'll definitely be back the next time our family is craving Korean BBQ and beef tongue!

I ordered a Ka Moa combo plate with teriyaki chicken and chicken katsu as well as spam musubi. The food was, in a word, delicious! The chicken katsu was solid, not as crispy as I would like but I did take it to go so that factors into that. The teriyaki chicken was outstanding, perfect flavor, a slight sweet char taste where it was flame kissed, I would order this again and again! Their Mac salad is different from what you get from an Aloha or Ono, not as sweet and didn't have the tang but even with that I enjoyed it and would eat it again. The only thing I would skip next time is the musubi. While it was okay in flavor the ratio of rice to spam was so far skewed it didn't seem worth it. As a whole this spot is incredibly solid and more than worthy of a 5/5! I look forward to coming back and highly recommend you check it out

No. No meant no table. She told me it would be a couple hour wait when I could see there were tables available. I made a reservation this Sunday. Unfortunately, buffet brunch only. I could see the chafing dishes from outside, but decided to dine here anyway. There was a family sitting outside on the patio, but since it was warm outside, when the hostess asked inside or outside, I said inside. The waitress told me about the $59/person Sunday brunch. No espresso drinks, but it includes bottomless mimosas. Champaign with orange, pineapple, cranberry juice, or all three. Yes, all three please. Eggs are custom made orders by request. The brunch buffet had great options. It included, pancakes, waffles, French toast, crepes, pasta, potatoes, cod, chicken, meats, salads, pizza, fruit, yogurt, various breads, crème brûlée, and mini chocolates. My mimosa was perfect, since I poured my side juices in myself. The food all tasted great. My complaint is the eggs. I ordered two fried eggs. I had to remind her of the order because I believe the kitchen forgot my eggs. She made an excuse that they were busy. I don't think so, since I could see the three of them from my table. When I received them, they were hot and fresh, but the worst fried egg I've ever had. Ugly and runny. A fried egg should be the easiest thing to prepare. Disappointing. The entire time I was here, there were at most five parties. One was a large group celebrating a birthday. Not crowded on Sundays. No reservation required. I only had two separate plates of food and a plate of desserts. Unless you eat or drink a lot, the price of the buffet brunch is not worth it. In summary, service was good. My champagne glass was never empty. Excluding the eggs, all the food tasted great. I like the overall look of the restaurant. The Sunday buffet brunch is not my first choice.
