This was a takeout order. The place is clean and well-maintained. The staff is friendly and efficient. We got a chicken combo and pork combo. Our order was out quickly and stayed warm when we got home. Chicken Combo- You get chicken katsu and chicken bbq with mac and rice. The katsu is crispy with a juicy interior. The chicken bbq is tender and flavorful. Pairs well with the mac and rice. Pork Combo- This comes with kahlua pork and bbq pork. The kahlua pork is tender and juicy. 808 is a tiny 3 table, very unassuming place but don't let that fool you! You can feel the good vibe from the moment you walk in and it continues in your interaction with the workers. Nothing crazy, just genuine good energy where you can tell they enjoy what they do and are happy to talk to you. I ordered a Ka Moa combo plate with teriyaki chicken and chicken katsu as well as spam musubi. The food was, in a word, delicious! The chicken katsu was solid, not as crispy as I would like but I did take it to go so that factors into that. The teriyaki chicken was outstanding, perfect flavor, a slight sweet char taste where it was flame kissed, I would order this again and again! Their Mac salad is different from what you get from an Aloha or Ono, not as sweet and didn't have the tang but even with that I enjoyed it and would eat it again. The only thing I would skip next time is the musubi. While it was okay in flavor the ratio of rice to spam was so far skewed it didn't seem worth it. When I see beef ribs on the menu at a Hawaiian place, it's a pretty straightforward decision for me! Although the ribs don't look like they have a ton of meat on them, once you get it off the bone there's actually a decent amount of meat. The marinade they put on these things is so good! Has a nice hint of sweetness and is very flavorful. Of course, any trip to a Hawaiian spot can't be complete without a Spam musubi! Their teriyaki Spam musubi is solid. The poke here is bomb and the inside of the restaurant reminded me of a lunch shack in maui. Will be back often for lunch and next time I am getting the ribs, my coworkers got them and they looked amazing. The service was standard and the people are all friendly. I love a Hawaiian plate lunch, but 808 Local Hawaiian Grill was not it for me. The Hawaiian bbq chicken was over handled, cut up to bits, and super dry. The rice was even hard and dry. But most offensive was the spinach salad dressed with...Hoisin or oyster sauce?!? Ay yo, Hoisin sauce isn't a salad dressing. Ugh, why do you ruin perfectly good greens like that?! Not the kind of place you can sit a really have lunch with a friend but if you work in a nearby business offices or the hospital I recommend calling in your order and then picking it up. so dummy yummyyyyyy! 808 is my favorite local spot for poke. although i can't compare it to poke from hawaii (i've never had the authentic stuff), i think the fish here is leagues ahead of its competitors in socal. poke has gotten so bastardized in the mainland that the poke is no longer poke, so a good place that serves it is few and far in between. anyways, i got the local flavor and spicy garlic with my go-to toppings of wonton chips and seaweed salad. flavors were good, but i was looking for a spicy kick to my tuna and it just wasn't there with the spicy garlic. rice was a lil overcooked and gooey, and some wonton chips were a lil stale. but by all means a knockout plate in the oc regardless. service was nice. i ordered by phone, and the guy who answered patiently listed out the flavors to me (i had no idea they had that many). ambiance feels kinda hole in the wall, but it's perfect considering that this place actually serves good food. wish the price was cheaper, but i'm willing to occasionally pay a hefty sum for good fish! portioning wasn't bad either since i can split it into two meals. ty 808!! read more

The Big Kahuna came with spam and sausage. It was too salty for us. The flavor of the Island Beef Ribs was good, but it was a slightly hard to chew/rip off the bone. The ribs were charcoal burnt all the way through there was no meet other than burnt crisp. HIDDEN GEM!! Ordered 2 musubis (one spicy spam and one shrimp tempura) and a small side of Mac salad. First off, the small side of Mac salad was only $2.75 and the portion is GOOD! For all the mac salad lovers you NEED to try. Rice for musubis was perfectly seasoned and gave a mold without falling apart. Spicy musubi had a real kick to it 7/10 spice rating which was just what I wanted. Shrimp tempura musubi was my favorite thing I ordered, there was this tangy sauce that was included in it that gave it such a unique flavor that I LOVED. I ordered online for pick up and it was ready right on time. Food was nice and hot, quite fresh. I got the Big Kahuna plate since they serve breakfast all day! It came with spam and Portuguese sausage topped with an egg. I ordered it with only greens instead of rice or mac salad, but it still came with those. Not too mad about it, the rice was delicious with a little sauce on it and furakake sprinkled on top. Had to try the mac salad and it was deliciously sweet. Overall the dish was good, some salt from the spam, sweetness from the sausage, and the gooey egg yolk tied it all together. My friend got the Momona combo plate which came with hawaiian bbq chicken, kalbi ribs, and beef ribs. It was all cooked perfectly. The chicken had that nice sweet bbq and char flavor. The kalbi was a little small, not a ton of meat, but tasted great. The beef ribs were huge and delicious! Perfectly paired with rice and mac salad. Will definitely try this place again sometime. Stopped by right when they opened up at 11AM and it did not disappoint! They definitely did start getting busier and busier as time passed as it was lunch hours and nearby a lot of businesses and CHOC. The service went by quick and they were very attentive towards us to ensure we enjoyed our order. My boyfriend and I weren't super hungry yet so we shared the combo with Kalbi, beef ribs and teriyaki chicken and a side of garlic rice. The garlic rice is definitely garlicky but also buttery.
