Great. Super comfortable, friendly, great menu. Took care of us in a large party a couple nights in a row.

This review comes after my second visit. On my first visit I ordered the roast beef sandwich and it was mediocre, at best. The French fries were outstanding! On my second visit, we ordered the California burrito and grilled chicken sandwich. Again, both were mediocre at best. Not horrible, but not delicious either. The restaurant is attractive, but the sandwiches are over priced by about $5.00 and bland. You get a small amount of the tasty fries. read more

I have been here several times- and this last time was not a typical experience. Had I done a previous yelp review- it would have been 5 stars- but based on my last visit Im making it a lot lower and I hope that this is just a one off. If I had scored it based on my last experience- Id have given it a 1 or 2 stars. Im hoping to have a better experience in the future. The place is very new, trendy, impeccably clean with attractive staff. It will definitely be the "in" place for the summer- great views of the lake and they have a lot of outdoor space that will be great come summer. Ambiance 5 star, bar menu and execution of drinks- 5 star all the way. They had a new pineapple paradise drink- gotta have it! Its like a dole whip turned adult beverage! Drink called purple rain- excellent. Something with empress gin- oh my! A smoked bourbon cocktail my husband loves. We have ordered most of the drinks on the menu and I think all of them are winners. (And now I sound like a lush- but these drinks are worth it) .....But this last visit- service was super slow - meaning- it took nearly an hour to get our food. And Ive never had pork belly done so badly in my life- it was absolutely dry and STRINGY. How does someone mess up pork belly so badly?! They succeeded in that challenge! The flavor would have been good had it not been sitting under a hot light for such a long time- it was more like jerky that pork belly. Again- Im not exaggerating on this one bit- it was visibly stringy when i was eating it. It took effort to chew something that SHOULD have melted in my mouth. My husbands brussel sprouts were something we've ordered lots of times before here and every other time- they were DELICIOUSLY crispy. But this time- that had a definite burnt smoky taste. Like an off-putting smokiness. When my husband complained - shortly after it was delivered- the server said "thats how they always were"- but something was definitely off this time. We told her we were accustomed to them and this time they were not golden and crisp- they were thoroughly brown. She didn't offer to replace them or have them made over again. My husband doesn't usually complain- so - after being turned off by the waitress- he just toughed it out- and ordinarily we never take anything home- but this time - the remaining brussels went home with us. I don't know why we bothered. Our other two friends had some sort of pasta and they both enjoyed their meals. Fortunately, the server was readily taking and delivering drink orders while waiting such a long time for food. We had eaten earlier so we just got appetizers that #1 took forever to come and #2- were shockingly bad. And again- Ive had good experiences here before but even my husband that loves the vibe of this place said "Lets just get drinks next time". And we will be back. But this last experience will take a minute to get over- Ive officially been put off brussels for a while! And that takes a lot for me! I really hate to complain about a locally owned place. But this review would have been a lot lower had it been my first time going there. My suggestion - drink here- but the food and service at two other local places Red Door and Bare Bones is way way better. The ambiance at Drift is hard to beat- but even though we had dinner reservations - they clearly were overwhelmed and it showed. This place is a pleasant and welcome surprise! 3 levels offer fantastic views of the lake and the sunsets. Make sure to check out the drink menu. I usually don't but was pleased to see not only a wide variety of specialty drinks but also a great selection of mocktails. On the advice of our amazing waitress, Ashley, we started our meal with the Pork Belly lettuce wraps. I have never had pork belly so it was a bit of an experience for me! We both enjoyed them & would consider ordering again. The appetizer menu has some great options. There are burgers/handhelds and entrees that were so appealing that we had difficulty choosing which main items to choose. We opted to try the salmon and we were not disappointed. Nothing is frozen, all fresh. It was phenomenal. Dessert was the best vanilla ice cream I have ever tasted. Ashley spent some time sharing the history of this place. It's worth asking your server...I do not want to spoil it!! I am looking forward to returning and trying other menu items. This is LaPorte's hidden gem. read more

My wife and I are here for the first time today and I will not be back. I had the rustic ribeye and it was extremely smoky as if it was marinated in liquid smoke. It was very overwhelming, the steak had the texture of what can only be described as wet dogfood. The potatoes were bland and soggy from the juices of the steak and mushrooms. I tried the potato first and then tried the steak after one bite I had a hard time swallowing and was beginning to feel sick from the texture. Our waitress had gotten a manager and asked if everything was alright I was trying not to make my wife not feel uncomfortable and I just said it's not what I was expecting it's very smoky. I have had smoked food many times around the country as well as in Europe having a dessert smoked right at our table. My brother has smoked his meats for 12 hours and I have never experienced something that strong. I have only once ever before sent a meal back ever before at a hole in the wall restaurant in Knox Indiana. The most upsetting part of the entire meal is that they left on the table not once asking to take it away. They did ask twice if I would like anything else but at that point I was feeling like I might throw up. We still had to pay for the meal I took one bite from and was asked if I wanted to take it home I considered bringing it home to feed to the dogs but didn't think I could stomach the smell without getting more nauseous. I absolutely hate wasting food I even had a huge black human hair in my breakfast sandwich from McDonald's removed the hair and finished the sandwich. I am writing this at midnight as I still haven't been able to eat anything and can't stop thinking about how pungent the steak was. Why would an establishment force someone who has already informed you they don't like and can't eat the food you served to sit and look at it and not take it away or at least ask and then charge them for the meal they didn't eat I mean I took one bite. It was $43 almost double the price of a well known steakhouse in Valparaiso and almost the cost of st Elmo's arguably the best damn steakhouse in Indiana. Ron Swanson wouldn't eat that steak. It was an abomination to meat. Very disappointed more so with how the situation was handled than that of the meal itself. I guess if you choose to go here and have a bad experience as I did then expect to pay for the meal you didn't eat and I suspect that if you choose to another meal they offer since you didn't like the first to pay for it as well. read more

Beautiful spot. Very nice lake view from the 2nd floor. Had a steak salad, wasn't expecting more than a routine steak salad. It was excellent. Excellent personable service at lunchtime. Enjoyed learning about the area from our waitress. read more

Food was fantastic we had the Heirloom Tomato Tartine for an appetizer which came out very quickly. I had the California Burrito the meat was very tender and tasty. My wife had the lobster roll which she said was delicious. Service was outstanding very knowledgeable and friendly staff. Location is great with a wonderful view of the lake and sunset. Drinks appetizers and dinner with a short tour of the upper deck in just over a hour. We will definitely be back. read more

Clean and new! Beautiful views of the lake! Server was kind and friendly. Food took 55 minutes to come out after ordering. We ordered hamburgers and chicken sandwiches. Half of us loved the food and the other half thought it was ok. One Burger was cooked very well done and dry. The other burger was great! read more

It took 60 minutes to get our appetizers and 85 minutes to get our dinner served, which is Luke warm. This was on a Wednesday so I can't imagine how crazy it is on weekends. The manager had some nice excuses, but no apologies. The wait staff is certainly friendly, but I can't see them staying in business if they treat their customers like this. First time there! The host staff, friendly and helpful. Jeff, the Assistant Manager friendly, helpful and supportive! Valerie, our waitstaff person, so great!!!! We were on the Second Floor where the vibe is vibrant and exciting! The food was first rate! Pork belly app was amazing!!! Lobster roll was a great twist of unexpected flavors!!! I don't normally leave a review but was really disappointed in my experience. We were on the second floor with gorgeous views of the lake across the street. Our food took sooo long to receive, but we weren't in a hurry so that was ok too. I ordered the California burrito that had flank steak on it. The flank steak was in chunks and VERY tuff! It didn't have much flavor. Keep in mind the prices are not cheap either. The views were beautiful and the staff was nice but if the food isn't on par people won't be returning. I've hesitated writing any reviews on the Drift because I live across the street and I want it to be great sooo badly. However, I've been here at least 7 times now and although the staff is very friendly and helpful, the kitchen is the worse I've ever experienced. If you get your food within 45 minutes it would be an absolute miracle. The menu is great and the concept is top notch but the execution isn't sustainable. I'm afraid that unless they make some changes quickly, this place will fizzle out and become something else in a year or two. I hope these bad reviews get attention and spark some sort of urgency to find a better a kitchen staff because whatever's back there now is not good. read more

Drift is the perfect place for a date night! The views are amazing, and the freshly cooked food is top tier! Nothing really comes even close to it in Northwest Indiana Area. The manager gave me a tour of the place and it really shows how much they love their job and location! Mad props and we will be back!! read more
