This is the kind of place that you can come back to over and over again. The food was fresh and tasty, and the desserts were on point. I ordered a six ounce lobster, and when it came out over-done my server Kathy, immediately snatched the plate from me before I could even object and had it replaced with an amazing tender succulent lobster. Kathy made my visit here. She went above and beyond, was so pleasant in demeanor, and understood immediately my situation and was completely empowered to change it without making me feel uncomfortable at all. Epic! Overall the food and service are what you expect from a fine dining restaurant. This last dinner wasn't up to the norm. The liver was dry and not flavorful. The side of coleslaw wasn't very good. The best was the sword fish appetizer. Highly recommended. My wife's shrimp was also very good. I was disappointed the server didn't redspond when the plate of liver was still vedry much uneaten and the coleslaw was sent back as too bad to eat. Hopefully the next meal will be better. read more

Called ahead to reserve a table for 25th anniversary. Didn't think it was necessary but wanted a lake view to celebrate. Oh boy, when we got there it was completely packed on a Thursday at 6:00 PM. Grand Mere went above and beyond holding that ONE lake view table for our dinner. Those servers were hopping! We had great service and excellent food. Ribs, perch and filet. My husband loved the liver pate and escargot. We were surprised with carrot cake for our celebration. Wonderful service by Ava, who clearly loves her job! We began with house made breads in a basket with whipped herb butter and pate. Crispy plump chicken wings with a hint of heat, served with sauces on the side, amazing house made soup and a crisp yet juicy chicken breast with parm crust. All this wonderful food while overlooking Lake Michigan. I'm sure sunset is very special here. There are a few dining areas and a separate large bar. Pricing for food and wine was reasonable. Never been here before I was invited to a friend's birthday party this past January. The venue was crowded and bustling with life and social gatherings. Parking was a little challenging to find a spot because so many people were here. It seemed to be popular place to be on a weekend evening. Not knowing what to expect, I was dreading if they had anything on the menu for vegans. I did however got the waitress to custom make a pasta with marinara sauce with various veggies which turned out to be surprisingly very good both portion-wise and was pretty flavorful. I found myself enjoying this surprisingly simple dish. Though the waitresses seemed overwhelmed that night, they were very kind and accommodating to my preferences and I was satisfied to find something that suited my vegan needs. The service was good and ended up being a good night after all. I don't know if I'll be back since they don't have much for vegans, however I was grateful for that pasta dish. read more

Great service, even when crowded a few days before Christmas. Nice extra touches like a gluten free menu, providing a tray of different breads and spreads and refilling it when you empty one (and providing gluten free chips for my wife). Called around 1pm on a Friday and was able to get a table for two at the bar at 8. We were seated right away and they brought us a basket of bread and a drink menu. Waitress was really helpful and let us try a couple of wines to pair with our steak and brought us an extra plate to split. Bread - this was a pleasant surprise. Butter is very rich and chicken liver is flavorful Oysters - very large and fresh Clam chowder - lots of clam and tasty with the horseradish and tobasco Ribeye - not sure this was even ribeye. My husband and I have been waiting for a special occasion to try one of the area's favorite restaurants, so when he surprised me by taking me to Grande Mere Inn on my birthday, I was delighted. The restaurant does not have outdoor seating but they placed us at a table next to the window with a spectacular view. With its hunter green walls and wooden ceiling, the decor evokes a sense of nostalgia from a bygone era of fine dining. The menu is uniform with specials that seemed to be a tad more creative, though no less delicious. I was absolutely thrilled with the entire experience and am excited to bring friends and family. I've forgotten to put my review on here because I've been busy since I got back to my home state of Texas but I can finally put "pen to paper" so to speak. This should have been written on Oct 9, 2020. First- The service. We had the best waitress. I don't remember her name but I do remember her smile and her wonderful, happy personality. She was super nice and was very willing to explain the dishes we were curious about. She recommended a great wine for me to pair with the meal and brought the food out in perfect time. She even went so far as to get me the recipe for the cherry "sauce" that surrounded the wonderful baked Brie. She went and asked the owner who was more than happy to provide it. She went above and beyond and I'm so very appreciative of her service Second- And just as important. The food! Dear lord in heaven, thank you for some of the best good I've had in years. Let's start with the appetizer before our regular appetizers: the bread. Three different kinds, one garlic I think, one rye and I can't remember the other. All three were good as well as the spreads. Our first "real" appetizer was the Brie in puff pastry surrounded by a lovely and delicious moat of cherries. Perfectly baked, perfectly gooey, which was perfect with the cherries. The second app was the swordfish strips. Also perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned, and perfectly paired with whatever the dipping sauce was. For my "main" I ordered the walleye as it's a fish that I've never tried before and therefore wanted to try it as simple as possible so I could truly taste it. Broiling was the way to go. It was very light, mild, and flaky. It had a horseradish dipping sauce which I would have never thought to have done but it worked absolutely wonderfully. It came with a side of herbed potatoes that were also good. This was an amazing dinner to say the least and one that I thouroughly enjoyed. I will try my darndest to get back here. Grand Mere Inn has great seafood and steak options. The bar area is cozy and the main dining room has a great view of Lake Michigan--especially during sunset. There is plenty of parking available. Food is slightly pricey, but the quality is up to par. The jumbo shrimp and perch are great choices. Most of the entrees come with two sides. The atmosphere feels cozy and familiar, like visiting your grandparent's house during the summer. read more

First off we had a reservation, and we had to wait when we got there. It was finally our turn to get seated and I guess people the owner knew came in right when we were going to be seated and they bumped us and gave our table to them. Needless to say not very happy about that being that we were now 30 minutes passed our reservation. Anyways, that's the only bad. They seated us finally at the exact table I wanted, great! Our waitress was awesome! My Filet and shrimp were perfectly cooked, all the seafood was outstanding and the service was great! My wife's seafood platter was excellent, oysters Rockefeller were delicious, and they pour a very good Manhattan. The ambiance of the establishment was very comfortable, and reminded me of when my parents would take me out to old upscale established steakhouses when I was a child.
