Ive been skeptical of a lot of boba places popping up and Cheese Tea was one of them. Id like to think I'm a boba fanatic so I like to try any boba place I come across. It took me a while to be sold on the cheese cap and while Hana Tea was the one that intro'd it to me, Cheese Tea made me fall in love with it. The two times I've visited i got their Brown Sugar Milk Tea, with and w/o brown sugar boba. The boba was soft and Chewy from what I remember but what really took the drink up for me was the brûlée cap (cheese foam with a torched top). There's something about the way the salty sweet goodness of the brûlée cap complements the milk tea and how throughout the drink you'll get a slight crunch from the crushed brûlée topping. Satisfying. Not to mention the interior is seriously the cutest thing, and it's so cozy! The owner was also very helpful and welcoming and it's definitely a place I can see myself coming to more often if I'm around the area. I would like to give this place a 5Star but I have yet to try other options in the store but more options means more potential! :) read more

Anyways, I still wanted to add what I ordered and now I remember why I haven't gone back! When I first got introduced to cheese foam in the mainland I was on the hunt for it in Hawaii. Since it was a new thing here not a lot of places had it and I remember this place being a newer place having it. Let me tell you now that if you like your cheese foam being on the saltier side this is what it tastes like. Not only that, but there's better boba places on the island that are known for their boba and this ain't this chief. Sorry to say but I am not happy with it. We showed up around 11 AM on Thursday, August 8th, and the place was empty since they'd just opened up for the day. My first impression when I walked in was that it's a very cute place, even though I had a hard time finding it since the signage was pretty small compared to the other businesses nearby. My niece got the fun fun green tea & she said it was ok, but just a little too sweet. I got my daughter the purée mango smoothie without the cheese mousse as she doesn't really like it. The drink itself was ok, but you can really taste the fake syrup even though it's made with fresh mangos & syrup. I would've asked him to leave out the syrup had I known since I did ask him if it was made with real mangoes, but he didn't mention the syrup. I ordered the brown sugar milk tea for my son. He drank less than half of it just so I wouldn't get mad at him for wasting my money, but he finally confessed & said he didn't like it. My season tea was not very good either. This place was different! This is a super cute small place, perfect place to sit and study in this area. To get here, we got lucky with finding a parking spot out front on the street. We were able to park near by and walk around the plaza. We ordered a potted plant Oreo and cheese milk tea and a cake batter milk tea. They were very interesting. The cheese was weird. The bobas were smaller than I'm used to. It's a different taste for sure. We're always up for trying new things and that night we were trying cheese tea drinks! This was my first time going to Cheese Tea as I've been on a mission to try brown sugar milk teas from different boba places on the island. I decided to check out Cheese Tea since we were in the area and the reviews about the brown sugar milk tea w/ boba seemed very good. We decided to park at Ala Moana and walk to the shop since we didn't want to deal with finding street parking or having to pay for the parking lot in the back. It's only like a 10-minute walk to and back so I didn't mind. Plus I thought it would be a nice walk before I indulged in a cup of milk tea. When we walked in, there were no people; just the workers. It was nice and cool inside which felt nice after our walk from Ala Moana. The place is decorated super cute with cat stickers and whatnot. Just feels like a cute cafe. They also have a couple of couch seatings which looked really comfortable. I know they're known for their cheese foam, but I can't bring myself to try it as I'm afraid I won't like it so I got their brown sugar milk tea with brown sugar boba. They made my drink very quickly obviously since we were the only customers at the time. The drink itself was okay. I've definitely had better from other places. They put brown sugar syrup around the cup, but there just wasn't a strong brown sugar flavor at all. Kinda tasted like I was drinking regular milk tea. Also, the boba was quite hard and chewy. I didn't care for them and ended up leaving most of the boba balls in the cup. One of my new favorite tea places. Mostly because I LOVE cheese cream with my milk tea. Finding parking may be tricky but if you cant find metered street parking nearby, then you may park in the structure. They validate 50% of parking fee. If you're gonna be fast, the first 10 minutes of parking is free anyway. This place was recommended to me by other tea shops that I frequent, just because they know how much I like cheese cream (a topping that i have only found at Hana, Icy Bubble, Tea Home, Teaspresso and select Taste Tea locations). I must say though, if you tend to like creamy drinks, like the cold brews at Starbucks are you new jam, then you will like this place. Of course, the usual other tea options are also available. What a cute and unique tea place in town. Don't let the name throw you off, Cheese Tea is a nice addition to the many tea spots in town. While it offers your typical fruit, milk & boba teas, the real attraction are the cheese caps! Think of it as a cream cheesy, slightly salty addition to their already freshly made fruit teas. I've been here twice already and tried their teas with & without a cheese cap. I say go for the cheese cap if you want something more filling. I got a cheese cap on my messy strawberry tea, it tasted like a strawberry milkshake without the bloat! I do prefer the cheese cap on the messy mango tea however, possibly because mango is a much stronger flavor. On my second visit I got a pineapple green tea with brown sugar boba, refreshing! My wife's go to is the messy mango. They have a cool variety of toppings including oreo cookie, and offer board games & free wifi as well. It's open until midnight, so it's a great evening hang spot. I finally stumbled across Cheese Tea! After trying a couple of other places with cheese foam, I was convinced that I had to try it! Located on Kapiolani next to Gyu-Kaku and the Original Pancake House, Cheese Tea combines my dreams of milk tea in a cat themed cafe! I really wanted to try their boba, but was unable to. One thing that's good is that their boba is fresh, but they were making it and it Would definitely have taken too long. So I asked for recommendations. He suggested the Hong Kong Style milk tea with the coffee jelly and topped with cheese foam. Boom, sold! I got it 50% sweet, which was perfect for me. I really enjoyed the black milk tea, not too sweet and just the right mixture of milk to tea. My first time trying cheese foam was... strange. Since I got the strawberry smoothie, the sweetness of my drink completely overpowered the cheese flavor. In fact, I couldn't even tell there was cheese foam until I got to the bottom of my drink. When I did get to the bottom, I found the foam saltier than I thought it would be; when I got to my house, I found my partial lactose intolerance more triggered than I thought it would be. While the workers were very nice and helpful when to came to parking payments/validation, I would have to disagree with what a former review mentioned since the person who we spoke to about the drinks didn't seem to be that knowledgable about the teas. My friends and I inquired about some of the differences between teas and the person basically just either repeated what we had already stated or pointed to the pictures on the side for reference. I have a new crush and it's cheese foam! I've been reading about this boba craze but didn't get to try it until today. I almost experienced a head-on collision on my way to Cheese Tea because a lane was contra-flowed, and since I'm not a townie, I had no idea that that's what the traffic cones placed along the lanes are for. Hey, Department of Transportation, signs posted on the orange cones come in handy for those of us who don't live in town and are not aware of this traffic regulation! Just saying. Anyway, Cheese Tea's storefront faces a busy street. Parking is two doors down from the store. I went up the parking structure and the spaces are very tight. The overhang is extremely low. So if you have a tall car, don't even think about parking here. The owner/barista told me that there's parking on the ground level. You have to pay for parking but they validate at the store so you can get a discount. I ended up looking for street parking because the structure was just too scary for a suburbanite such as myself. I tried the milk tea boba with cheese foam and now I'm hooked. I only wish I tasted it before leaving the store so I could have ordered another one. As it is, I only got the small one just to taste it because I was still full from lunch. Also, I would have wanted my drink to be a little colder. The boba was warm and he didn't put enough ice so the drink was kinda room temperature and included some ice chunks. Luckily the boba and cheese foam made up for all of those things. Cheese tea brings the"cheese on tea" concept with a bit of uniqueness to it. The atmosphere seems to center around cats as there are images of cats everywhere. It brings a cozy feel to it in which I feel like I'm in a nursery or children's play room but without the kids. Even the trash can and the light bulbs are decorated. They have pretty good selections so I would probably recommend trying a couple of different drinks before reviewing which may mean more than one visit. Overall, it's a great place for a pit stop if you walking to and from ala moana and Ward. Overheard they use whole milk. Apple Pay friendly in which the receipts can be texted to you. I came here on a whim because curiosity struck my fancy and even though dairy isn't too fond of me, the term curiosity killed the cat definitely played out in the end. Located on Kapiolani before the parking entrance, you'll find this cute cafe decked out in cat wall paper and cute coasters at their cozy sit down tables. They also sell cute phone charms if you decide you have to leave with another souvenir besides your milk tea. Tried the Uji Matcha with cheese first. Honestly the cheese itself tasted like whipped cream cheese with added extract of some sort. It paired and mixed well, but I'm a simple kind of girl so the next time I went I just had it without cheese. Final verdict? I really like the vibe in this place! It's kind of a hole-in-the-wall but there is definitely always people coming in and out. The lighting, temperature, furniture, decoration, and overall mood at this shop is 10/10! Unlike many boba places, this place gives off a really home-y feeling. The lighting is warm. The furniture are fabric and squishy (I.e sofa and seat covers). The DECOR are cute cartoon/animated cats everywhere(coaster, wall stickers, pillow, figurines)!! I love it. I have yet to find a go-to drink, but they have so many unique options. Such as yakult drinks and fruity flavored milk! All the drinks I have tried were pretty standard. Location wise, it's right on Kapiolani street. Next to Gyu-Kaku and around the corner from Ichiriki. There is always one or two street parking along Kapiolani street, but I do believe they have a parking structure where you can get validation? Ok, to start off, this place gets a 10/10 from me for design. Very cute & so much character. I absolutely love the colorful couches they provide, it definitely makes you want to sit & enjoy your drink there. As for the milk tea itself, for me, it was alright. The cheese foam wasn't my favorite. I say that because it has a very strong smell & I'm not a super big fan of anything cheesy/milk smelling, so that's just a preference thing. But I will definitely try this place again, minus the cheese foam. They had some pretty interesting options on the menu that I definitely want to try! One thing that I found confusing was their validation for parking. I wish I took a picture of the sign but totally slipped my mind. It told you how much the parking was for upstairs, downstairs, etc.. but what I was confused about was they only validate to elite???? I'm not sure what that means or if I was even reading it right but I was kinda confused about that. Anyway, this place is very cute & definitely a boba place that gets a lot of hype for a reason. I had the plant milk tea and the presentation is incredible. Most of the time when I get food or drinks it never looks like it does on the menu's photograph but this time it did! Even though you could taste the 'cheese' the drink was super good I'm new to cheese foam and theirs wasn't as strongly flavored as other places I've tried. The interior right on entrance was super cosy and they also have different board games and card games to play on the side. The receptionist was super nice and asked for all the adjustments that we wanted to add on the milk teas and I just LOVE all the names that the shop has come up with for their different drinks. Me: Let's try Cheese Tea! Husband: What's THAT?? Sounds gross. Me: Com' on. Seriously, don't you remember drinking this beverage in Taiwan...um, back in 2010? Husband: Nope, I can barely remember what I ate or drank yesterday. Well, so I dragged my grumbling husband to Honolulu's first Cheese Tea café located on Kapiolani Boulevard in the Blackfield Building. He had this look of disgust on his face with the mention of cheese + tea as I tried explaining what this odd-sounding combination was. As I remembered, cheese tea is nothing more than another version of the already popular iced teas (green or black) with or without milk and boba but topped with a cold foamy layer of milk and cream cheese sprinkled with salt. As stated in some of my earlier reviews, I'm not really a fan of milk teas or boba teas but mainly because I'm mildly lactose-intolerant. However, since our visit to Taiwan nearly a decade ago, I remembered this treat and wondered if it would EVER catch on in the US like boba and milk teas have. Also, I've seen the so-called cheese teas offered in Los Angeles' Little Fluffy Head Café and on menus at Gong Cha (yes, Fox E., I looked at the New York and Texas menus that you've visited). This café is cute and compact with seating for at least 20 people (8 2-tops and counter with stools). The décor features cute cat banners, cushions and wood coasters for your feline lovers. Also, they serve their beverages in recyclable covered cups. They have FREE WiFi. Parking is semi-validated in the attached parking structure and rates are dependent upon which floor that you park on (see photo). Today, we ordered 2 beverages to see how the flavor compared to what I remembered. -Watermelon smoothie with cheese: fresh-cut watermelon was puréed and topped with the cold cream cheese foam. You could tell that the smoothie was made from REAL fruit and not powder. There was a natural sweetness so no additional sweetener was added to the smoothie and it was complemented with the somewhat tangy overlay. The cup's cover facilitates drinking just the smoothie through a straw. BUT, to get the optimal flavor of your beverage, don't use a straw but tip your cup to about a 40-45 degree angle to sip both cheese and sweet smoothie. Trust me, you won't regret this! Ahem, I'm saying this even as I'm a NOT a boba or milk tea drinker. $5.75 -Hong Kong-style Brown Sugar Milk Tea with boba and cheese: we stepped out on a limb (we're mildly lactose-intolerant) here to order this beverage as it's made with whole milk blended with black tea. Also, it was capped with the signature "cheese" (I think it would sound more appetizing to be called "milk foam"). I remarked to the owners that their boba had a good consistency/texture with a slight chewiness. They replied that they make the boba in small batches every hour to ensure proper texture and freshness. As for the brown sugar, I noted that they use the Chinese brown sugar bars (unrefined cane sugar) and not the processed brown sugar crystals. There was a more distinct and complex caramelly-molasses flavor without being overly sweet. The black tea gave this beverage a little earthiness which balanced the caramel-flavor. We liked this beverage and amazingly, we've not had any digestive distress. LOL. $4.50 Anyway, my husband admitted that he enjoyed the beverages as we were given a Loyalty Card so it looks like we'll be back to try more fruit teas or smoothies with milk foam, cheese...don't want to push our digestion with more milk teas! read more

This is probably one of the few places that I'm excited to try out their entire menu! I have been to this place 5 times in one week during their grand opening, which really says a lot. LOCATION + PARKING: It's located in the same building as Gyu-Kaku Kapiolani and the parking lots are shared. There are free parking in the front of the store after 6pm, Sundays, and holidays. I believe there's a time where you cannot park in the front because of rush hour so they'll tow your car, but I'm not sure between what time... so it would be good to check the parking sign when you're there! The street metered parking is $0.75/hour. I think parking in the building structure is an inconvenience though... foot traffic would be ideal. You can park on 2 levels (ground level entering from Hopaka Street, or upper level entering from Kapiolani). Ground level is $2 per 20 minutes, upper level is $1 per 20 minutes, but if you ask for a parking validation/stamp at Cheese Tea, you just have to pay them (Cheese Tea) $0.50 + tax per 20 minutes or $1.50 + tax per hour. This was something I wish I had known during my first 2 visits here. The really nice parking booth person told me this the second time I came here! BTW Cheese Tea actually PAYS for the parking validations so that their customers could pay for it cheaper. And honestly, my thoughts on paying $0.50 + tax isn't that bad as opposed to $2 at the booth, think about it. DRINKS & PRICE: my go-to would probably be the blueberry smoothie, messy milk drinks, or strawberry milk shake. Some of the drinks I've tried reminds me of my childhood but I can't put my tongue on it. The cheese cap is very interesting, savory to mask the sweet drinks. I wouldn't recommend the matcha plant milk tea though, it was actually a blended drink which was a surprise to me. You can ask them to lower the sweetness level depending on the drink too (i.e. brown sugar milk tea.) the price ranges from $5-$7 including toppings that you might want to add on. There's a section on the menu where there's already drinks with the cheese cap included. For the price though, I think it's great because their cups are soooo strong and sturdy, you could probably use it as a reusable cup. There was a time I accidentally dropped my cup of drink in the store but NOTHING spilled. So wonderful. SERVICE: The owner (I believe) is phenomenal. Everytime I come in, she would always tell me "omg you're back!" and would genuinely thank me for supporting her business. She'd always made me feel welcomed and happy to be there. Also, going back to the time I almost spilled my drink, she genuinely cared about my well-being instead of the mess I could have made in the store if it weren't for the sturdy cups. I was honestly embarrassed for being the clumsy person that I am, but the owner reassured me that it's nothing to worry about. ATMOSPHERE: With that said about the service, it feels like home in there! You can do your homework if you need to since they provide free WiFi. The decors are so cute because there's some TsumTsum collection hung on a wall, animal pillows as a back cushion for the seats, and wooden cup coaster that's of a cat! I loved how they already had napkins with the business logo printed on it. Overall, I really like this place considering that it's new. I love the blueberry smoothie with cheese cap a lot! I never thought I would've enjoyed cheese cap as a topping until I tried it at Cheese Tea. The only issue I had from this place was the time I ordered the matcha oreo plant milk tea and the lady taking + making my order wasn't in a very pleasant mood, and the drink was tasteless to me.. it was like drinking only milk. Another thing I think should've been implemented was that after you pay for your drinks, they should offer/bring up if you need to buy parking validation because I tend to forget to ask, and ended paying $2 (for just that 20 min I was there) at the parking lot booth. read more

Oh my goodness! Heaven in a cup! I have to admit, the name of this place threw me off a bit. I was actually slightly disgusted (and terrified) at the thought of cheese in my tea. Then one day a class mate of mine's at the medical school upstairs, came in with a cup and it looked so delicious, I had to try it. Their teas are so good I almost can't picture myself drinking tea from anywhere else. I've had a few different types and every single one of them was delish. I definitely recommend their Brown Sugar Milk Tea, Hong Kong style with cheese and their Passion Fruit green tea (it has real Lilikoi and calamansi in it!) So so good. 4.5 stars Cheese and tea? Hmm that sounds a bit odd but little did I know, it's delicious. This place is located on Kapiolani in the same building as Gyu-Kaku. This place is small but so cute and cozy. I love the cat coasters and pillows! Oh and their cups! Their cups are adorable and they're reusable so we bring ours back whenever we come. I also got to meet the owner, Kyla who also makes the drinks. She's super friendly and will answer any questions you have. They don't have a huge menu but they have smoothies, milk tea and messy milk! Messy milk is like a milky flavored drink made with fresh fruits. messy milk blueberry is like blueberry cheesecake The fruit tea is also yummy and has fresh cut fruit in it. I also like their milk tea since it's like real Hong Kong milk tea with a stronger tea flavor and not as sweet. You can also get a cheese cap on any of the drinks. The cheese cap is interesting. I've had cheese on milk tea before but this one tasted richer and a little more cheese like, not as sweet. The prices are a little higher than most milk tea places I've been to but everything is made fresh and they use fresh ingredients too. Cheese Tea is such an adorable boba shop! Stopped by here while visiting Ala Moana Park (it's not a far walk if you're looking for something sweet after a stop at the park) and from first impression, the interior was so cozy. Cat decal and plushes everywhere. We ordered the Plant Milk Tea and Berries Smoothie. Both were great! The smoothie didn't taste artificial, and the milk tea wasn't too sweet. I've always wanted to try cheese foam topping on tea because who doesn't love cheese?! I walked in with 40 minutes to spare and the people behind the counter were all SO NICE. Very welcoming, very appreciative of their customers and extremely knowledgeable about their tea. After going back and forth between the plant oreo matcha and the plant milk tea, I opted for the plant oreo matcha with cheese foam. The cheese foam is not my cup of tea but the plant oreo matcha I'd definitely get again! I even saved the cup because it was so cute. Too bad I was on vacation all the way from Maryland!! Not happy at all. Hana Tea closed its Dillingham location so I went to what I was closest to and had most reviews. This is so milky, not enough tea and all and the boba is definitely old. I love this cafe! Cats are my favorite and I think the theme of this cafe is adorable. The decals all the way to the coasters, pillows, and logo go along with the theme. I come here every now and then with my boyfriend to study and appreciate that it's a pretty quiet environment. Most cafes get crazy loud but here is always pretty chill. Prices are about the same as other cafes and they have lots of yummy choices for their drinks. This time I tried the Plant Milk Tea and it's yummy and so cute! I think their milk tea is delicious and the cheese on top is nice to get every now and then. I really liked the mint with the Oreo crumbs to look like a plant it was a fun touch. Usually I get my favorite which is their White Peach Oolong tea but I'm glad I tried something different. I always like coming here it's so chill so I don't always have to study at home. Order up front and they bring your order to you. They also explain how to best drink whatever it is you ordered. I've been hearing a lot about cheese tea and it sounded horrible to me. We tried Happy Lemon (not available on the islands, but in CA) and really liked it. This isn't bad, but isn't the same. The cheese is not what you are thinking, its not salty/savory. But more of a cream cheese, foamy topper. I had the strawberry with cheese topping, one of the suggested drinks. It wasn't bad and was really pretty to look at, but overall would probably try another place before coming back. read more
