I haphazardly walked in here early Saturday afternoon with a few friends since we had a few hours until our feature presentation of the day was scheduled to begin. We couldn't really make out what type of bar Drink was from the outside because of its fancy tinted windows, and to be honest, I immediately started having second thoughts as I entered the bar since it was a lot more upscale than what I'd been used to seeing in San Antonio, but this all changed as soon as we sat down at the bar and let Tommi (sorry if I spelt your name wrong!) take care of our ethanolic desires for the afternoon. First off, Drink is the first bar I've seen in San Antonio that actually carries Hendrick's. Granted, I haven't ventured far and wide to look for Hendrick's (which if I were back home in the Bay Area I wouldn't have to) specifically, but to me it was like one of those creature comforts that reassured me that I was drinking at the right place. Another one of those creature comforts was displayed in the form of an empty bottle of Johnnie Blue still in its padded wooden casing, which I gave serious thought about ordering since I had just gotten paid yesterday, but before that thought had any chance to materialize into action, my friend out of the blue proposed that we take shots, so we ended up shooting liquid cocaines at three in the afternoon instead. Good times. Drink also carried the usual local favorites on tap; it took me about two pints of Shiner 102 for me to get over the novelty of seeing it on tap and decide that I didn't like it, but they did have it here -- their "before 9pm happy hour" specials would have ensured that my friend would drink here until 9pm, had it not been for the fact that we had already bought tickets for a 5.30pm movie. In the end, my experience at Drink left me drunk enough to wander into the concession stand at the Rivercenter AMC and take a ten dollar bet that I couldn't drink from the liquid butter dispenser (the one that they have for the popcorn) for 15 seconds, which eventually led to me passing out and missing the first 45 minutes of the movie due to a butter/alcohol-induced coma and walking out of the cineplex #6 with what now feels like a clogged artery on my right leg. If all goes well, my next yelp review should hopefully be of a hospital. Or an amputation clinic. Or maybe the local triple-bypass surgeon. read more

Just a few steps from the Riverwalk hustle and bustle, this place is a breath of fresh (and cheap!) air. Forget the fancy cocktails and overpriced ambiance. Drink Texas is all about the essentials: ice-cold beer on tap, a solid selection of shots, and a seriously impressive "marathon" happy hour that runs from 2 PM to 9 PM. Yes, you read that right. 2 to 9! That's a happy marathon, not just an hour. This place is no-frills in the best way possible. It's got that classic dive bar vibe: a bar, a few small tables, and a jukebox (or sometimes a DJ) setting the mood. The bartenders are super friendly and make you feel right at home, and the other patrons are just as welcoming. It's the kind of place where you can strike up a conversation with a complete stranger and feel like you've known them for years. What really sets Drink Texas apart is that it's one of the few places near the Riverwalk where you can get drinks that won't break the bank and stay open late. This was the highlight of our stay (we were at the Contessa, just opposite Drink). There are about 120 wines but only ever 20 on the menu since they apparently rotate the menu every week. You have to ask the servers about the wines, since they will open anything you ask for. While the wines are good (and cheap - yay - starting at $20/bottle), there's some real love in the cocktail list. The staff all have their own custom cocktails so it's fun to try their suggestions. The lounge seating is very relaxing, and the place never seems packed even when its busy (San Antonio seems to get busy from 10pm every night - presumably people work here?). A light food menu is available but this is the coolest and most relaxing place we found (also discovered they have a 30% military discount, which helped me). read more

This place is ghetto ! the first and only time coming here with my brother and niece we don't even make through our first drink before trouble starts . My niece and brother notice a patron hitting his girlfriend in the face so my niece quickly attempts to intervene and the abusive boyfriend shoved her then the bartender quickly notices and call the police having my niece and brother arrested. The abuser and his girlfriend somehow go on there way without incident. Drink at your own risk is all I have to say . read more

WORST BAR IN SAN ANTONIO!!!! The manager Tommy is rude, arrogant and a complete bitch! She boast about how she is ripping the owner off to pay for her broken down car. The drinks are weak! Don't go to this place! It's awful! Try SOHO or SNEAK a few blocks away!!...better crowd and bartenders! read more

This is my favorite place to go. It's relaxed and chill and the prices aren't too bad. The one thing bad I have to stay is sometimes the DJ isn't the best and the drinks aren't made the best but that is just my preference. Otherwise, every time I go out I ended up here for a bit. read more

This is a nice lounge bar tucked away from the Riverwalk. If you're staying downtown or visiting Drink should be on your list. There's a good selection of cocktails and wine to choose from. Compared to where I live (San Francisco) the prices are AMazing. read more
