I love Las Vetas! It is the best coffee spot in Fairfield, no question. The vibe of this spot is so cool, with various music and other 60s/70s memorabilia and tchotchkes decorating the interior. It feels old school and classic in such a fun way. There's even a piano near the back. It's not just the ambiance, the food is great too. Frothy, delicious lattes are served in mugs, if you stay for your meal. They also make really tasty breakfast sandwiches, probably one of the best I've had in the area. And the employees are great too. Always super nice, greeting you with a smile and a brief conversation. I really can't recommend Las Vetas enough. I'm now a regular! read more

The ambience when you walk in to this Café is stellar! Such cool vintage charm with something to catch your eye on every wall and surface. The staff are friendly and talented. Service was quick and high quality. They even brought our drinks to us. There is a shelf of games to choose from along with some tables that have chess/checkerboards painted on them. There's also a piano in the middle of the seating area you can try out. I'm not sure what I liked more: the coconut and caramel latte or the wall of vintage records to browse through! Quirky, cozy, nostalgic place to get simple eats and warm drinks! The atmosphere of this cafe cant be explained by words it truly feels special when you walk in. The staff was super friendly. There is board games and books all over for your enjoyment. The hot chocolate was yummy. I just got a bagel which was good want to go back for a milkshake and some pancakes another day. The various hanging mugs and eclectic pieces of art, accompanied by knickknacks scattered around the lounge create a comfortable and inviting environment, perfect for hanging out with friends or studying. While the coffee seems to be a hit or miss, the cinnamon coffee cake and bacon egg and cheese sandwiches are consistently delicious. Occasionally in the morning-afternoon it is very busy which will leave you standing until a table opens up, but that doesn't stop me from coming whenever I'm in the area. read more

I've been a regular customer here for many years. I also enjoy another coffee spot around the corner, whose overall ambiance is a stark contrast from Las Vetas. It depends on what you like. So, what continues to lure ME here? Well, I love the atmosphere and the antique-like and eclectic vibe. It's just fun and creative. Granted, it's smaller than other places I've visited. Occasionally I can't find the seats I like because it's busy, and parking can be difficult. Still, I prefer to come here. It's cozy, artistic, and has a totally unique character about it. I believe that's what makes it so special. If you've lived in Westport for many years, like I did, you may remember The Remarkable Book Store and, if you've ever been to Sanibel Island, you may have checked out the Bubble Room. Las Vetas reminds me of both. It's a gem amongst all of the commercialized shops here now. It gives me a sense of home and the warm and fuzzy childhood memories I have when local shops grew roots before they were sadly closed. This place differentiates itself from the more prominent chain brands. I know the owner well and, in my own experience, find him to be friendly and never rude or unwelcoming to other people when I'm there. They've got lots of food choices, I've always enjoyed the coffees, and better yet, I get an actual coffee mug if I'm staying there instead of a regular white cup with a plastic top. Those cups feel so stale, whereas Las Vetas makes you feel so welcomed. Lastly, I love cappuccinos and lattes, and I've found they make the BEST over any other independent coffee shop around. I love this place, but that's because I enjoy the feel and how they make my favorite drinks. Las Vetas caters to some and not to others. We all like different things. This was a tough call and I feel for a four star review I'm about to be pretty harsh but you'll see what I mean in a moment. At the end of the day, it's still a firm recommend. Just with a little caveat. First-- The place has sentimental value. When I first resigned myself to move to the area, this was the fiest local coffee shop I found to ponder the thought in. On a gray, rainy autumn day, walking in the eclectic and dusty antique shop vibe may very well have informed my view on my current home town. It's romantic and deeply charming. A great place to feel centered. Unfortunately, as I would swiftly learn and repeatedly affirm, it is a terrible place to get a cup of coffee. The ambiance and sentimentality, which may not click with everyone, are what saved this from a three star review-- as the coffee is that consistently bad. Though I've worked with coffee, some serious coffee guys and gals and drink enough to kill an elephant, I'll admit I'm ignorant as to just what makes me feel this way about Las Vetas' coffee in particular. Perhaps its their equipment, their choice of beans or the operators and their training. I sadly suspect it to be all of the above. And over dozens of tries with a variety of baristas, I am always disappointed. Or rather, I'm never disappointed as I've come to anticipate the thin, watery, flavorless, almost mildew or wet newspaper like profile I get every time I have a pulled espresso. I admit over the last year my visits here have become extremely infrequent. With Shearwater across the street, I can't always justify choking down Las Vetas inferior brew just so I can revel in their much cozier quarters. There are half a dozen places in town for excellent coffee now and loads more for a decent, acceptable cup. This pushes Las Vetas out of the very bottom and it saddens me. To be clear I love this place. I always have. And I dearly wish they would perk up, pun intended, and put a serious investment of time, energy and quality control into their coffee program. As it stands, this otherwise classic downtown hangout is just a three legged dog. read more

I've been going to Las Vetas for at least 8 years, and to this day it is my absolute favorite place to go to meet with a friend, take some time to read a book, or study. They have an extensive list of specialty coffees, tea, and smoothies, as well as food that always smells so good. Even their hot coffee typically has six or so options. Staff are friendly, and the clientele is a refreshing mixture of people. For non-coffee drinkers, the Jackie's Jungle Juice and Chaider are some favorites. I typically enjoy a soy latte - it's beautiful and so tasty. One of my favorite things about Las Vetas is that each coffee 'to stay' is served in a unique mug. In the same way, the decor is unlike anywhere I've been - each table is painted differently, and on each wall is an array of miscellaneous posters and items. There are large windows making for a beautiful naturally light interior, and a grand piano sitting in the middle of the floor. Las Vetas begs its customers to interact with it. There's a community board hanging inside with flyers for local events hung across it; a box marked "love notes" for people to contribute to; a full bookshelf; games like Connect Four and checkers; and drawings hanging on the walls left by previous customers. Las Vetas during the day is light and beautiful, but at nighttime the colored string lights and low lights make for a really magical environment. Every time I go in, I find new art installations, or a note left in a drawer. Thank you Las Vetas for giving downtown Fairfield its own special hole in the wall. read more

I love this place. Coffee shops are my favorite place to do non-work writing and this one reminds me of the kinds I used to go to as a kid, the kind that's unfortunately been replaced by minimalist-decor'd, pourover-obsessed places filled with the sound of Macbook key-tapping. Las Vetas, by contrast, has an ambience that's at once anachronistic--Beatles records, Quark Xpress(!!) manual on the library shelf, a board game or two from the 50s--and unmistakably 1990s. It's warm, somewhat dark, and cluttered, which I absolutely prefer to the open seating and bright lighting of more modern shops. The coffee's fine, the tea and sandwiches are great. The only thing I'd change are the hours; would be great to have a place to write late, but I realize that's not where the money comes from. Love this place, and thrilled that it seems to have thrived even during lockdown. read more

We were in search of a place to stop by for breakfast before taking the train to New Haven on a rainy day and we were so happy to have found Las Vetas! Loved the mismatchyness of the decor and the unique collection of mugs. You sit and just can't help but look around and notice something different - the chandeliers, the tables, the hidden cabinets of candy... such a great vibe. I would minus a half star for food. I got the chicken cutlet sandwich which was nice but underwhelming - it was basically McDonalds McChicken. However, boyfriend got the tuna sandwich and it was great. I also got a coconut almond chai. Was definitely very sweet but I liked it like that. It's a nice touch to sit down with a real mug and not a disposable cup. Overall definitely recommend and would just like to try the other items on the menu! read more

Okay, long story/amazing recommendation, so BEAR with me. A couple of weekends ago I took my kiddos to Connecticut for a family reunion. One morning I needed to get some breakfast and my cousin recommended Las Vetas Lounge in Fairfield, CT. It was the cutest place; so many eclectic things decorated the entire store and the kids asked me to take pictures of too many things, including a mug with a pup that looks just like our own pup. The girls at the counter were patient and sweet, the food was delicious, coffee strong, and it was a great experience. Queue about 8 hours later... we're on the road home to NH and Weston wants his favorite stuffed bear, Taggy. I panic: the hotel, my aunt and uncles house, the breakfast cafe... where in CT could it be? My parents went back to look all over my uncle's. Nothing. I called the hotel. Nothing. I called Las Vetas. Nothing. But they asked me to call the next day just to check in. So I called the following day and they apologized and said they didn't find it, and I honestly just assumed West dropped Taggy in a parking lot and it was a lost cause. I didn't even leave my name and number. A whole entire week later, my phone rings early one Sunday morning and the voice on the other asks me if I had lost a teddy bear The owner, Andrew, seems shocked that he found me - I'm assuming he went through the caller ID or something because I honestly never gave them my contact info. He said he was cleaning the lounge and found Taggy tucked onto a small shelf (this does not surprise me with Weston.. always putting things in little places). I was so shocked and thankful, and Weston was over the moon - Taggy found, and he'd be traveling through the mail to get home. Not only did Las Vetas deliver Taggy home, but to West's surprise when he opened the package, the owner, Andrew, had HANDMADE Taggy his very own throne to sit on. He hasn't stopped carrying it around and can't stop talking about it. I was completely blown away at the thought that went into returning Taggy - to even have him home was a gift enough, but to have a special gift given with his return was even greater. There are still good people out there - and I'm thankful I was on this end of it. Also, in owning a business with Tyler, I know how important good word is and how reviews can impact a company, its employees, their families, and their community. I'm sharing this here and everywhere else I can. If you are going to Fairfield, or just going through or near there while in Connecticut, make sure you stop in and experience this wonderful cafe. read more

I loved this place! A friend and I stopped in for an afternoon snack. I love the quirky interior and mismatching tables and chairs. The to-stay mugs are all different and really fun. We both got hot apple cider and I got a slice of chocolate cake with brownies and whipped cream on it that was honestly perfect. Great local coffee and tea shop! I've been coming to this place for over ten years (loyal customer since before their current location) and love having a nice cup of tea to stay or to go. The staff are young and high schoolers for the most part but really care about their work. They have open mic nights once in a while. Funky, hipster, laid back w ample seating set up for friends 2 meet up & dish, Metro N commuter crowd, some alone time on the laptop, Pilates mom, Fairfield U students etc- all kinds, all day. It's cool that it's a local joint & has held it's own amid the chain coffee places. Bagel King bagels, eclectic mix of pastries, breads, muffins etc. They just have toaster ovens & hot plate set up so don't expect anything too elaborate. Hot or iced coffee/combinations, teas, etc. Not my fave service or Latte or Cappuccinos but its all pretty decent. Lots o reading material & news papers for purchase. Retail like mugs, granola bars, candy etc. Free WiFi Info board w local "happenings" posted which is a good reference point. Today, I was getting organized with my computer/ on a work call and had my water bottle and an empty coffee cup in my bag, which I put on the counter. As I went to the counter to order something to eat and drink the store manager yelled at me shooting off f-bombs that I was disrespectful and told me to get the f out of his store. I said I don't understand, Im a paying customer and he told the ladies behind the counter not to serve me and pointed in my face and yelled get the f out! I've been to Las Vetas a handful of times. I really wanted to like I it, with its old-school interior and comfy furniture. But the food quality varies considerably, depending upon what you order. I've tried their peppermint mocha three times, each time hoping it will be better... and each time it has tasted like milk with no other discernible flavor. The breakfast offerings are tasty, so today I thought I'd be safe with a black coffee and egg sandwich. The restaurant was full but not packed... and I waited 40 minutes for the sandwich. (Literally. I timed it.). It was yummy, but I would have eaten pretty much anything at that point. Sorry, Las Vetas. I don't think I'll be back. read more

I needed a coffee & had some time to kill, but wanted to avoid a chain coffee shop when I found this place today. I was impressed by the funky decor, the bohemian feel, and the young woman behind the counter was very sweet. I got a "I think that's cranberry" since (that's what she said when I asked what kind of scone was in the case, and a large coffee. (The large cup is tricky to fit under their awkward coffee urn set up). A gallon of milk & quart carton of half & half are kept in their original packaging in a mini fridge across from the coffee bar. I sat down at a roomy round table. The scone barely had any flavor, and the coffee was just okay. I got my work done, decided to use the bathroom before leaving. Okay, now my generous overlooking of some of the quirks was done! A long-term ring in the toilet bowl & lots of urine on the seat & on the floor. The room was just generally gross & clearly had not been cleaned in who knows how long. I basically high-tailed it out of there & probably won't be back. Except for the decor, sadly, this place really can't cut it. read more

It is a rare thing in today's age where a coffee shop feels unique. The mediocrity that is Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts often leaves me feeling like Ronald McDonald probably does now. I found this place, and well, wow. What a difference a little (actually a lot) of character makes. This is a good example of a cute local coffee house. The decor is quirky, the staff friendly, and they have a variety of coffees. I had the Costa Rica with a splash of French Roast for reinforcement. I had to deduct one star because of the creamer situation. They have a cooler with jugs of milk, and it's messy.
