An amazing show full of booze and... more booze. Just maybe don't take your in-laws unless they are REALLY cool!

Went on Saturday night and had a blast. The actors are quite talented and very quick. The audience interaction was fun and spirited and the ability of the actors to switch from Shakespeare to improv is amazing. The interweaving of contemporary humor (including things that were in the news that very day) with impressions and raunchiness was awesome. Go with an open mind and have a few cocktails --it'll be a lot more fun!! read more

I have been trying to watch drunk shakespeare since a while now & decided to take advantage of the 2-for-1 off-broadway week & see this play/stand-off comedy of the bard's works. This is an improv-style, casual and interactive theatre where 5 actors act out a particular play- Macbeth- and it happens with one of the cast drunk on 5 shots of vodka. So, we get to the 43rd street theatre- we are seated with a shot of diluted vodka in a very intimate setting of a library. There are drink menus and we can order drinks which will be delivered to our seats throughout the duration of the play- great service, by the way! Right before the play starts, one of the actors announces a bid whereby, the winner wins 2 seats to be 'king & queen' and enjoy champagne, caviar & some special treatment throughout the act. Last night the king & queen had to shell out $225 for this and it seemed like a lot of fun to be in their shoes! The act was really hilarious with some real shakespearen stuff mixed in with a lot of raunchy humor along with contemporary pop culture references. The actors got almost personal with a lot of people- like looking through people's handbags, taking people's drinks, making funny comments in general. Some people seemed to enjoy it while some not so much. For me as a part of audience seated quite far away, it was ridiculously funny! I love a good play which has improv as it is quite difficult- especially if it is improv with comedy! All-in-all, it was great evening- it was literally something different! Might want to come again, but since they do not disclose what play they might be performing next, it will be a guess game. I definitely do not want to repeat the same play! read more

This is an OUTRAGEOUSLY good time. It takes a pretty special event to get me to the heart of Time Square but this was well worth it. I'm not a particularly huge Shakespeare fan but this show was hilarious and sprinkled with really smart, witty humor along with timely pop culture references. Conversely, my husband is a Shakespeare snob and was literally keeled over laughing the entire show... so it appeals to all audiences. Will definitely be back and will be recommending to visitors! Get thee to Drunk Shakespeare ASAP! It was a fantastic night with lots of laughter. The cast is awesome and the way they weave in and out with the audience participation is great. A great mix of improv, shakespeare and booze. The venue was small and intimate with lots of books, reminded me of an old den. The actors were very talented and I could not be more impressed at how they integrated pop culture into all the aspects of the show. Recommendation: Go to the late show. You get to stay after and hang with everyone. If you go to the early show, you have to close your tab and head out quickly so the late show can start. read more

Irreverent and hysterically funny! We saw the show on our last night of vacation, I wish we had gone earlier because I would've seen it again before our trip ended. The cast was wonderful and the drunken antics both wiithin and outside the actual play's structure was brilliant! 5 stars from both myself (an English major) and my husband who mainly knows Shakespeare from movies and/or me convincing him to attend. Go see Drunk Shakespeare...you'll be glad you did. (Small warning: you will have to go up and down a narrow and somewhat steep set of stairs to got to the performance. I have to use a crutch and cane and was able to get up there, just be prepared) read more

Three, two, one, Shakespeare! My cheeks were sore when I left Drunk Shakespeare because all of the smiling and laughing at this show. This somewhat improvised off-Broadway play performs a modern, pop culture-filled (and, of course, drunk) version of Macbeth. The cast was vibrant and passionate, and they were so much fun to watch. There is also some fun audience participation... basically my husband got a lap dance from a guy referring to himself as Mrs. Featherbottom. (An Arrested Development riff on Mrs. Doubtfire) I bought tickets for this on a whim when we were at the TKTS discount booth at Times Square -- our discount price was $34 each, vs. the $69 advertised face value. A quick Google search before assuaged my nerves. It had very good ratings online, so what the hell, right? The entrance leading up to this place is a little, um, understated. I initially thought we had the wrong address, but the door man who was chatting on the phone said, "Drunk Shakespeare?" and pointed to the rickety looking elevator nearby. However, once we got through the velvet curtains and took our welcome "shot", we took our seats in an intimate library setting. It's small -- the room is probably about 100 person capacity. We got a seat on the lower bookshelves near the performance floor. Getting there early helped with getting floor seats. Drinks were a little pricey, but it is New York and all. I got a Stella Artois for $7 and closed out my tab. All in all, this was a highlight during my brief, two-day visit to New York. I wanted to see a Broadway or off-Broadway show, and I wanted to see an improv show during my stay. With Drunk Shakespeare I got both. read more

My wife and went to see Drunk Shakespeare last night because it was highly recommended by are friends. All I can say is what a great experience. We did not stop laughing throughout the night. All the cast are extremely talented actors. They recite real Shakespeare dialog with incredible comedic improvisation. We highly recommend this show. You will not be disappointed. read more

Super fun show in an intimate space, there truly is not a bad seat in the house! Actors are very talented and make sure plenty of hilarity ensues. One star off because the building the theater is in is kind of decrepit. The theater is wheelchair accessible thanks to a very small and very slow elevator but the bathrooms lack an accessible stall big enough for a chair/has grabs, which they should disclose when they talk about ADA seating as one would assume a theater that had ADA seating also has compliant bathrooms. read more

If you are a fan of Drunk History, or drinking, or laughing - you will enjoy Drunk Shakespeare. We were "initiated" into the Drunk Shakespeare society with sugary sweet shots as we walked into the library. (SIDENOTE: I want this library. There are over 15,000 books in this room and they are sorted by color. My Type A personality was in heaven.) Our seats were down in the heart of the room and I was a little annoyed at first, thinking that all of the action would take place where the thrones were at the end of the room. I was happily surprised to find that the show really takes place all over the room, although a lot of it happened directly in front of me. I described the show as 1/3 Shakespeare, 1/3 pop culture/audience interaction and 1/3 improv. Our drunk cast member had also been the designated alcoholic at the 8pm show so he was definitely having fun by the end (other than falling up the stairs, ouch) but could still wield a puppet like a pro. My only negative remark - and I see it in other reviews - is that a brief summary would be helpful for those of us who don't have all of Shakespeare's plays memorized. We had a few speeches delivered in German and Spanish and it was kind of hard to follow at times. If you're going to go, definitely choose the second showing if you have the chance. It doesn't get out until midnightish but it's so very worth it. I am planning on coming back for a second helping sometime soon. read more

This show is incredible. From start to finish, this is truly an experience. You literally walk in and they hand you a shot, I mean, what's not to like!? The actors were given a huge task, keep a large group of people (half of which probably aren't even huge Shakespeare fans) entertained and laughing, all while drinking AND performing in a "theatre in the round" style but very limited space. SO MUCH FUN. We came to Drunk Shakespeare for Valentine's Day, and we had a fantastic experience. The setting is intimate with lots of character; I can imagine this being a wonderful outing with friends or family (assuming it's the kind of family you don't feel weird hearing raunchy jokes with). You enter to a congenial greeting by a cast member offering you a [very drinkable] shot. Another cast member directed us to our seat. The waitstaff are attentive and friendly; we never waited too long for a drink. Whether you are a die-hard Shakespeare fan or just like the idea of it, I suspect you'll enjoy yourself. The performance mixes the bard's own words with modern-day references, planned jokes, and a healthy dose of improvisation. The actors are all very talented. Amazing and hilarious show. It's so personal and the intimate atmosphere allows you to be part of the show. The actors all do a great job at keeping you entertained and engaged. All of the staff was so friendly and they really help create the atmosphere there. Better than a broadway show because of the personal experience and getting to interact with the actors. We kind of knew what it was we were getting ourselves into but what we actually got absolutely exceeded our expectations! This is the real deal at a fraction of the cost and you can absolutely tell that every actor involved in the play are extremely passionate about what they do! We originally purchased Mezzanine seats but ended up being the highest bidders for the king and queen seats on center stage! While I may have worn a crown, however, I was referred to as the mere Squire to my Queen. All the jokes were spot on and partly improvised, especially when the actors would heckle the audience. If you live in NY and haven't checked out this play, please do yourself the favor and purchase (cheap) tickets to the show! I recommend bidding for the King and Queen seats as well, even if you do spend a bit more than you originally expected. read more

When your tagline is "to beer or not to beer" you know its going to be a great night! Midwestern Gal: we arrived at 7:40 for the 8:00 show and were probably 20th in line. We had balcony seats and I would recommend sitting in the upper seating area or the library section. The balcony railing was a little high and made it a little difficult to see everything. That said, the show is very interactive and the actors/actresses moved around the entire show. It was a great night for anyone who is ready to have fun and enjoy a little Shakespeare! Midwestern Guy: If you're here for a classic Shakespeare, you've come to the wrong place. This is a solid mix of Shakespeare and modern comedy which provides enough detail that anyone can follow the plot. Though the drinks are definitely a focus of the show, the drunk actor isn't the main humor of the performance. The themed cocktails looked delicious, and I would definitely recommend having a drink or two before (or with) the show! read more

Wow, I did not think this was *that* good. The good: The set is beautiful. I loved the library and how intimate the seating was on the stage. There is really not a bad seat in the house. The show was fun enough, I don't feel like it warrented the price tag though. Aubrey Taylor was a BLAST to watch. I would go see anything she is in in a heartbeat. The bad: It's a hike up stairs to get to the theater. The show, while good, is not worth the price of admission. The drinks are woefully overpriced. The bar service wasn't bad - it was god awful. I placed a drink order before the show started and I think it finally came to me some time in the second half. Pair that with that they attempted to double charge me for drinks. I've been to another show called "Drunk Restoration Comedy" that executes this good idea so much better. First of all, the shows are only $7 or so (as opposed to over $30 for DS.) And drinks start at $4 for a tall boy beer as opposed to an $8 PBR at DS. Very disappointed and wouldn't reccomend. read more

Actors getting drunk with you reenacting Shakespeare's greatest plays. Every session is a different as it is interactive with the audience so you won't be getting the same experience twice. To set the scene, it is the last show on a Saturday night and most New Yorker have left town for 4th July weekend. But these talented, funny, close not team who have an obvious passion for Shakespeare's litterateur still give us 100% effort and entertainment well done. Actors/comedians were hilarious! and hit just the right mix of improv and Shakespeare. I was laughing till I cried a few times.
