Drusilla Seafood is a Baton Rouge institution! I think it's been a part of the Drusilla Shopping Center as long as there's been one. I know it's been there at least 35 years. Drusilla is many things for the community. It's a nice place, with white tablecloths and servers dressed all in black, but not too fancy as to be off-putting. You could come in and eat dressed casually. It's also a place where you could have a fancier more formal dinner in one of their rooms which open off the main dining area, or are located in the front. It can clearly help you host a special event! Or, it's nice enough to have a more intimate dinner with someone special. Let's talk about the food! Seafood is the main event, but they have a couple of nice steaks, and some chicken dishes. The seafood ranges from simple grilled fish of the day (one of my favorites), stuffed flounder, fried seafood, gumbos, and much more! One of the most popular items is the hushpuppies, and they bring you a bowl of them to enjoy while you order and wait for your main dishes. Most entrees include a salad or coleslaw first course, the latter if which is my favorite. It includes an oil & vinegar based dressing and is sprinkled with sunflower seeds. Then onto the various entrees. For me, I think with seafood, simpler is better. Therefore, I tend to like grilled, broiled, and blackened. However, suit yourself! What a nice spot for a ladies lunch and safe for my celiac needs! Our server was amazing and made sure my meal was gluten free and safe for this celiac gal. The drum was sooo good. This is why I miss living in Louisiana!! You just can't get seafood this fresh and so well seasoned. What a beautiful restaurant! Our waitress Tracy was amazing - very attentive and kind! The food is stellar! We came to eat based the recommendation of a local and we were not disappointed. The complimentary hush puppies were yummy. We ordered the Drusilla's Sampler for an appetizer and we enjoyed everything on it! My husband and I eat out at least 4 times a week. Drusilla food has a delicious flavor --I ordered the grilled fish and it was great with a very nice house salad that was not saturated in dressing. The appetizer of the firecracker shrimp was awesome and the presentation was fantastic - The serving proportions are substantial - The service was great --They have recently redecorated the facility and it has an upbeat look with lighter colors and cool contemporary art. The restaurant has easy access from any direction you come from in town. If you have not been there lately it is definitely worth it- wait till you see there specials for restaurant week. My experience last night. Valentines Day weekend, so I called first. When I showed up the table was ready, but my boyfriend was in the car on the phone with my grandma as my grandfather is in hospice so I went in & sat alone just to hold our table. It's been a rough week, wanted to get out. As I sat the waiter looked very worried considering I was just sitting there with tears in my eyes. I ordered a wine and never drank it. 15 minutes later, my boyfriend walks in and at this time he asks me am I ok while receiving the call that my grandfather had passed away so he rushed out. Me in shock I just sat there. Then it hit me to leave out of the restaurant because I wanted to scream. I didn't even pay for the wine cause I was so startled that I told the host that my boyfriend would be back to pay. I'm not sure how that went. In the mean time he took me for a ride and I cried and things calmed down and he talked me into going back cause honestly I been so stressed that I needed the outing. Upon return, the hostess wanted to sit us somewhere else but we requested the same table. She said sure and sat us there. It took 8 minutes for someone to greet us the second time. As we look around it seems they were having a discussion about who would help us and as I looked up, I see the first waiter visibly not wanting to be our waiter. Eventually they send two girls, one was training. That's the only reason that this review gets stars. She was a breath of fresh air and I'm upset cause I don't remember her name. She was tall, light skinned, pretty dark hair and an amazing smile. She was funny, dedicated, and she even messed up but kept great spirits. As we wait on food and drinks the staff of like 7 were huddled in a circle talking and looking at my boyfriend and I. They didn't care as I stared because I was genuinely confused until I heard one of the waiters telling another waiter that my boyfriend and I had an argument and he probably hits me. Which is absolutely not true. If there was concern, someone could've asked me. No one said a thing to me. They didn't ask if I was ok, or if we needed anything cause obviously you guys seen something was happening but instead of asking an assumption was made. All night I watched them point fingers, laugh, and speak amongst themselves about what they thought was happening. It was embarrassing, it was disrespectful, and customer service was at its worst. I even attempted to ask our waiter what was going on and she was really nice and advised me that I shouldn't worry, and she told me I was beautiful. The night went on, food was good, drinks were better and I began to lighten up. As we were leaving out of the main entrance, a manager was at the door and I happened to be in front of my boyfriend and he was holding the Togo box. As I approached the door, the manager looked in my face and shuffled out my way like I was a problem. He didn't say thank you, have a nice night, he didn't open and hold the door. He too, I seen one of the girls go and talk to so just maybe he made his own assumptions as well. And as I write this in tears, they were totally wrong about me. I lost the man who raised me when I didn't have parents. He was my life, he did everything for me. It was the most upsetting day of my life. I've never been in public and found out a love one had died. It was strange, it was deep, it was an experience that we didn't understand how to handle. And on top of that, I was watched and laughed at half of my dinner. Which is the reason that I didn't want to return but we had agreed we wanted to try you guys so we returned anyways and that is not the second welcome I was expecting. Everyone one was nonchalant and distant as if we were problem makers in the restaurant. I said all that to say, that it pays to be kind. You never know what a person is dealing with. It's also not good to make assumptions. As much as I liked the food and drinks I don't know if I'll be back. OMG....do better!!!! Druscilla used to be the place to go. What happened? I hate writing negative reviews but we have been here the past few years. It has been disappointing every single time within the last few years. Service....slow and horrible...but the restaurant was empty every time we go. They have wait staff standing around and not waiting on anybody. Food.... OMG....charboiled oysters. Shells were not even hot. There were two oysters on some shells, so I think they used already shucked oysters for these. The garlic butter sauces seem like it was melted in a sauce pan and dumped over it because there was a lot of garlic buyyer sauce but nothing was hot. Sensation salad....not so sensation..... Seems like the mixed in a huge bowl for their catering service the day and serve it all day cause it was all wilted and a lot of cheese and soaked in dressing....super soggy and salty. Baked potatoes don't come loaded. Everything is the side so potato came out room temperature and all the toppings were in separate containers. Thus butter and cheese don't melt on potatoes. Everything was very salty. Fried shrimp was super salty. Grilled fish were salty too. Blueberry lemon cake..... No lemon taste. Cake tasted dried and OLD. Like has been sitting there all day. Dried out and poured a bunch of blueberries sauce. Please do better. Sad to see this place like this. And yeah....over price what this read more

I recently moved to Baton Rouge and I was eager to try some of the local restaurants. This place in particular received high praise from several friends. They would rave about how they used to love certain dishes and it used to be their favorite place to eat. "Used to" being the crucial phrase here. The establishment I visited with my friends failed to meet even our reserved expectations. The circumstances for our outing had already soured things; without going into too much detail, my friend was forced to accept restaurant credit in lieu of a refund on his deposit when he had to cancel an event months in advance. So we were dining to use up that credit balance. Good luck trying to explain that to the staff. We were seated and received hush puppies and packets of butter. The butter is packaged in a way that ensures it will survive an atomic bomb. Lucky, the hush puppies were wonderful on their own. Freshly fried and delicious. This is a deception. This is an attempt to set the tone for your dining experience. These little fried balls of lies will make you think that everything else offered at this restaurant is of comparable quality. Our server, to be fair, did her best. I truly believe that. But there was some confusion with the ordering when appetizers were ordered. We were given (and charged for) an additional order of "charbroiled" oysters and I'm not sure how the miscommunication happened. But it was sorted out easily enough. Why is charbroiled in quotes? Well, that didn't really seem to be the case here. These oysters were simply put into recycled shells and covered in butter sauce. "Butter covers all sins." ~ Probably Paula Deen Next came the Sensation salad, which was a plate of dressing and Parmesan cheese complimented by a few sad, dying lettuce leaves. In her youth, this salad was likely as vibrant and enchanting as her name implies. But now she is well past her prime and trying desperately to cling to her former glory. Much like this restaurant. It's worth noting that there is an option to get a fresh tossed salad, for a perfectly reasonable and not at all insane $4 fee. This was on a Friday night, by the way. The dining room was rather sparsely populated and nearly empty by the end of our meal. I guess we got the news about this place a little late. For my entree, I ordered On the Bayou. A lot of things on the menu appealed to me, so I figured a sampler was the way to go. Right off the bat, I'll give credit where credit is due. The seafood casserole was excellent and worth the hype. Definitely the highlight of my meal. The rest, however....left a lot to be desired. The seafood gumbo did have a good flavor, but was served cold enough to have an icky soup skin form on the surface. The shrimp gratin was ok, but also suffered because it was cold. Halfway into it, I noticed the telltale "vein" in one of the shrimp....not a lot care taken in washing them. Rounding out the platter was fried fish and shrimp. All were cold and tough and overly salty. Apart from the casserole, this should have stayed in the bayou. At this point, one of my friends was concerned that this whole experience was going to make me regret moving to Baton Rouge in the first place. The rest of our dining party had issues with their meals, too. One person was given only half of a baked potato with her order, with a solidified chunk of fossilized cinnamon to put on it. Another friend tried repeatedly (and failed) to get a water refill. We finished up the meals with a slice of lemon blueberry cake to share. They dug it out of the back of the fridge from someone's birthday a couple of months ago, as far as we could tell. This was a depressing experience. I know in its heyday, Drusilla Seafood was fantastic. Now, the restaurant seems to be coasting on its former glory while the quality of the food and service have taken a nosedive. I've been told that a change in management is to blame. Such a shame. read more

What can I say? Did I just walk into the twilight zone? Where do I even begin to describe the unbelievable experience that just unfolded. First of all, if you're expecting top notch service, don't set yourself up for failure. The restaurant is dead, and it's obvious why. Some of the staff don't even know the first thing about customer service. One of my guests was told "are you gonna need that knife?" as the employee yanked the knife from her plate. Guess she won't be needing that knife. WOW. Let's talk about the sensation salad. If by sensation you mean the sensation of dying of thirst from consuming an entire bottle of salty dressing drenched over the soggy lettuce, then it certainly lives up to its name. If you put a deposit down for a party, make sure that you get it in writing that it's non-refundable. They do not disclose this information, and let's just say things get a bit weird when you try to get your money back, even after cancelling your party almost a month ahead of time. I can only laugh because as this was likely the last time I ever set foot in this restaurant, my guests and I were cracking ourselves up during the bizarre experience we had. Baked potatoes that were likely cooked in a microwave oven, lemon blueberry cake that was in a fridge for a week, and my poor guest had a baked sweet potato that looked like it had already been halved with a knife. Guess we know what happened with that knife that was picked up LOL I never came to Drusilla Seafood back in the 2000s and before when apparently it was an amazing restaurant. It is sad to hear that a place that was once the place to go is now known as a place to avoid at all costs. What happened?!? read more

Drusilla is always a good call. You can dress up or dress casual and feel comfortable. The hush puppies are the best I've had since Don's on Airline closed. My wife likes the Fish Louisiana which is a baked filet stuffed with eggplant casserole. The fried seafood is all great as well. The sensation salad dressing is out of this world. read more

Drusilla Seafood is an old mainstay of Baton Rouge fried seafood. Can't explain why, but felt like I was back in the 1980's when we were there. They start one off with complimentary hush puppies that they generously replace during the meal. Our waiter was awesome. The sensation salad has their signature dressing which is loaded with garlic and cheese. It's one of those tastes that's good, but lingers. The crab claws were exactly what one would expect - so, not disappointed. The flounder with crabmeat was good, not remarkable. This isn't a bad place or a great place. An out-of-towner, I've been to Drusilla a few times over the decades. I stopped for lunch last Tuesday, because it's been a long time since I had the seafood eggplant, and I was craving that. I was also happy to see calimari on the menu. I was given a crappy seat, but no matter, I was hungry and it was of no consequence as I planned to eat quickly. There were, at most, 5 tables seated in the main dining area. I got a complementary plate of hush puppies, which I rarely ever eat. I snacked on one while I waited for the waitress to arrive. A few minutes later, I checked the time and had another hush puppy, as at least 10 minutes had passed since being seated. Another five minutes in, another hush puppy. A table was seated 2 tables away at 20 minutes, and within two minutes, a waitress took their order. The menu remained on my table, in plain sight. Floor staff walked by, smiling. No one seemed to grasp that my order hadn't been taken. I got up and walked out after 25 minutes. Did the floor manager neglect to assign wait staff to a table during a slow lunch shift? Was a waitress pulled into the kitchen to help clean up a spill and forgot about my table? Who knows? They lost out on a decent piece of profit, the wait staff lost out on a good tip, and I lost out on lunch. Sadly, my last time visiting Drusilla. Next time, I'll make my own seafood eggplant, I guess. read more

Overall it was a good meal but not what I contacted for. First I go in and have to wait 5 minutes to get waited on our acknowledged or seated. I honestly have to call them to get seated. If I hadn't been staaaarving I would have left. Then I order a glass of wine. Try couldn't find the bottle of what I ordered so that too took forever. Then they brought me my order. The appetizer sampler (e.g. Drusilla Sampler" has "stuffed mushroom, charbroiled oyster, Shrimp Nelson, blackened fish, crab fingers and onion rings." They were out of the crab fingers and arbitrarily subbed two of the Shrimp Nelson without confirming this with me. I loved the blackened fish and the onion rings. The Shrimp Nelson had the cocktail sauce on top and it was way too catsup-y for me. The stuffed mushroom was a deep fried mushroom ball. That's all I can comment on that. I have been here a few times for restaurant week and ended up going here this time again with a friend. I made reservations but it was for an early dinner and am unsure if one would be needed for later. We usually sit in the bar and we did so again this time. I cannot remember the male bartender's name who helped us but he has served us before and he always provides exceptional customer service. Very helpful with suggestions, any accommodations we asked for and checking on us throughout the meal. I ended up going with the seafood gumbo as an appetizer. I found this lacking because I think I had two maybe three pieces of shrimp and that was it besides rice. Oh hush puppies are served at the beginning of the meal and I like how they are made. The meal came with a salad that was nice and refreshing. Maybe a little too much salad dressing for me but otherwise I enjoyed it. My main was the fried seafood platter. It was mediocre at best. I would have liked more seasoning on the fried catfish and shrimp. I couldn't eat everything and ended up taking some home. I got dessert to go because I was too full. If there is anything to be said for Drusilla over the past 30 years, they are consistently "Meh." I have come to the restaurant many times over the years for various family and friend gatherings, retirement parties, dinners, lunches, etc, and I have left underwhelmed each time. It's good enough, and if you are just passing through town or have company who aren't horribly familiar with seafood or Southern food, it's fine. The location is extremely convenient if you're on I-12 heading East or West, and again, it alright. If you're just passing through town, it's worth a shot. Don't jump straight for the fried stuff - try something that may absorb some flavor and spices. My most recent trip was to meet up with a friend who was passing through town, as well as a couple of other friends. We were trying to find somewhere with decent cocktails and seafood. Central to all, we chose Drusilla. First, the hostess or whomever answered the phone seemed extremely confused to answer questions about any happy hour specials. She didn't quite get the information correct, but it was...close enough. When we arrived, it seemed a bit chaotic at the hostess stand, though no one was even trying to get a table. I forgot that the seating is essentially metal chairs and a folding table with a table cloth. They're a reception hall, too, so that's where that comes from. Not extremely comfortable if you're thinking of settling in. We had a very friendly server who quickly told us she was new and still learning. That information was appreciated. I feel like she could have been better supported by management, or if they knew she was newer, they would have stayed closer to her to assist her with some questions rather than leaving her to have to hunt out someone to answer questions. She was very friendly and eager, and she made the experience a bit nicer. Somehow, Drusilla always hires extremely talented bartenders, and our cocktails were all superb. Everyone seemed to be okay with their food, though the seasoning was a bit off (however, I am very aware seasoning is a personal experience, not everyone will have the same likes). Prices are reasonable. Our friends split the crawfish and a seafood plate. Everything seemed a bit over-fried and salted. The decor is a bit tired. I know they've redone it a few times over the years, and I know there's no way to add windows to the outside world, but an overhaul is much needed. All in all, it's not a bad experience there, but like the rating says... Meh. Nothing stands out there for me. I'm sure eventually I'll be back, but it'll never be the first on my list. read more

I'm giving Drusilla Seafood a three because our server, Stephanie, struggled to remain professional. It was apparent that she was not happy to be scheduled for our private dining party. I requested the manager's assistance, but he never showed up. I was blown away but refused to let it ruin our experience, as it was my birthday dinner. It's a very affordable private dining option, but not at the expense of poor service. I have never been to a private dining party where they yell the drink orders across the room like popcorn and hot dogs are being sold at a baseball game. It was so tacky. The server normally memorizes the order. At some point, Stephanie adjusted her attitude, most likely because she saw me ask Martha to speak with the manager. If I were to choose this restaurant in the future, I would request that Stephanie not serve my table. She did not earn the required gratuity. Despite her poor service, we had a great time.
