Got both the hazelnut and maple latte. I was curious about the real hazelnut flavoring that they make in house. It was pretty good but light (would recommend to enjoy it alone-the cookie I got sadly drowned out the flavor). The maple latte was also great and perfect for a chilly morning. The bagel sandwich was tasty but on the pricier end. There is plenty of seating inside and the cafe looks like a great study spot. read more

I absolutely love this place. I live in Lake Grove and there aren't any locally owned coffee shops. We have Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks and bagel joints and delis. That's all well and good, but it is such a pleasure to have a true coffee shop nearby. It's near the college campus, yet not on it which gives it a more locals vibe. The seating is unique with a family style table in the center, bar and stools, then small tables alongside a room length bench. The staff are super friendly, chill, and have vibes that are always corteous yet efficient. I'm never waiting too long for my order and I've liked everything that I've ordered on their menu. My ONLY criticism is they only have one wall outlet, so if you're wanting to use your laptop or charge a device your on sheer luck to get the 1 wall outlet. Part of me appreciates that there isn't more, so that people engage instead of going there only to get work done on a device. Otherwise this place is great! read more

Had stopped with a friend while out on the motorcycles and was delighted to have found this family owned coffee shop. Overall the place had a very clean and welcoming vibe and the coffee was excellent. Heard that they do breakfast and also even host events but can't comment yet if you are on L.I. and motorcycle the north shore this is a great waypoint / meetup / rest stop where you can enjoy a great cup of coffee in a proper mug ( better than Dunkin's watery coffee and no burnt taste like Starbucks ) Will definitely be favoring this spot as a place to relax with a good cup in the future read more

I'm so glad there's finally a decent coffee shop around Stony Brook! It was a nice place to study with lots of natural lighting. Even though there was quite the line to order, they moved quickly. Definitely a bit on the pricier side for drinks, but I thought it was worth it for the study environment. read more

Music is way too loud here! ...Can't hear myself think over this 80s pop music. Is this a cafe for students/faculty & locals to work/study ‍‍...‍ at near SUNY Stony Brook? Seems like a completely social atmosphere. I like that SOMETIMES... but the *WiFi doesn't reach the outdoor patio*, if you want to work by the roadside where loud trucks, AMBULANCES, traffic and LIRR trains pass by FREQUENTLY! And there's not enough shading from the awning to keep the sun from making laptops glaringly unviewable. Even still, you'd have to nearly shout over the music to talk across a table. Ridiculous policies here. Coffee was OKAY. The barista tried to short change me with a SMALL 5 seconds after I paid for a LARGE coffee though... Very UNPLEASANT experience. I LOVE Druthers. The owners/managers are so friendly and welcoming. To a semi-frequent but not "regular status" customer like myself, I feel like they are really invested in making sure I am getting the help I need to order something I like and then follow up to see how I am enjoying my beverage and food. I love their house-made sodas and their mocha lattes are sublime. All of their teas (iced and hot) are delicious as well. Delicious grilled cheese and pastries as well. If you get any latte, their baristas' latte art is so much fun to see. Their cafe areas (both indoor and outdoor) are lovely and comfortable. It's always a clean and friendly atomophere. If you WFH like I do and come here for a change of pace to work or to study, I definitely recommend bringing some airpods. It's never super loud in here but there's usually a moderate sized crowd of people chatting and enjoying their food/coffee and music playing. Wifi works really well, too! read more

The people here are so nice. The place very clean with good service. I had a caramel macchiato although it was not on the menu the barista (used to work at Starbucks) was able to make it for me and did a wonderful job! I also ordered a lemon blueberry scone which was not dry and boring but moist enough with two of my favorite flavor combinations. I sat outside , perfect day for it, and noticed that they are very busy. People kept coming and going holding some refreshing looking drinks. I'll have to go back for an iced tea. First time visiting and I didn't even know this place existed but super glad I found it. The staff is really friendly and there's plenty of seating both inside and out. Being that it was my first time, I had the staff member assisting me choose my drink with my own specification being "strong with oat milk". She selected something with "burnt caramel" and it was true to the flavor (definitely tasted burnt) but since it was advertised that way, I'm not complaining. There was an overwhelming amount of customers to the two baristas working, but somehow some way they were pushing out orders like it was nothing. We ordered ahead on their website to get in and out quick as we didn't have the time to stay and hang out. I got a burnt caramel cold brew w/ oak milk & my boyfriend got a mocha latte. I automatically get good vibes whenever I walk into this fairly new coffee shop! Everything is very clean and new and trendy. My go to drink for this place is the burnt caramel latte which I enjoy in both hot and iced. I always go for the largest size because the small is too small for me to truly enjoy this drink! I know that they recently added food items to the menu and I am looking forward to trying some of it out for sure. Also, the staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable which of course makes this an even better experience every time I visit. The service is always efficient and accurate. My only recommendation is that they definitely try to get some good matcha on the menu as it is my favorite and I think would further enhance the wonderful coffee shop that they have. read more

I am completely obsessed with Druthers! Beautiful large, bright space, with delicious coffee, and an amazing menu- loveeee! But what also really brings me back here a lot is the vibe- it's a calming space and the staff here are incredibly friendly and welcoming. Their breakfast sandwich is my current obsession- egg,cheese, delicious sauce and crispy little bits of shallot on an everything bagel- insert chefs kiss here! They also have after hours for drinks and cheese boards- coffee + cheese boards, this place very much understands my love languages. I hope this place continues to thrive because I haven't found a space on LI like this and it has become my new go-to spot for getting work done or meeting up with a friend to catch up, or to just sit back and enjoy a good book and coffee. This place is a great way to do some work and/or study! It's full of Stony Brook students but there's plenty of seating with an extensive menu of both food and drinks. I have yet to try the coffee as I've only been here in the afternoons but the atmosphere is great! Def worth a stop in if you need somewhere to chill for a bit! read more

Their iced americano is more like coffee flavored water. The price of the drink itself is not very high as a cup of coffee, but when you feel like you're just drinking water then the price just becomes less acceptable. They present coffee in unique and fresh ways ("Spronade"... did you ever imagine the richness and acidity of espresso would go so nicely with the tart sweetness of lemonade?! well, it does!!) while also staying true to the beauty and integrity of the art of really, really good coffee. They execute the classics perfectly, which is difficult to do for the discerning coffee enthusiast. By far my favorite coffee shop in Suffolk! Very nice vibe inside, the staff is friendly and kind, the coffee and food are always great (and they regularly introduce new stuff to the menu). Druthers is *almost* a perfect coffee shop -- delicious baked goods, solid coffee, and indoor/outdoor seating. Their food options are mostly great -- with exception of their new breakfast burrito which was extremely salty and lacked flavor, and the chickpea salad which also doesn't have a ton of flavor. The big con here is the service. Every time I come here -- and I mean EVERY time -- the folks up front seem bored and annoyed to be helping you. It doesn't matter if you have a question about an item, ask "is this my order?" If there are a ton of drinks on the counter without names, or if you ask for a recommendation, it's all the same attitude. Considering the relatively high prices, it's surprising. In full transparency, I had a terrible experience with a staff member once and the owner was really responsive and kind. So I give them credit for that, but definitely wish I could say the same for the rest of the staff. read more

This is the kind of cute, high-end cafe you'd see in NYC but it feels homey and fresh and the baristas will remember you if you go enough which elevates it. I love their Rose Cocoa which is on their spring menu (and I hope they make it a forever drink) and now I'm obsessed with oat milk. Their bakery offerings aren't to my taste but the egg sandwich is at a whole other level. It smells magnificent and tastes even better though it does take a minute to make (don't be like me and order it if you're in a rush). I've heard people complain about the prices but for the atmosphere and aesthetic, as well as how fresh the products are, I think it's worth it. By far the best coffee shop within an hour of Stony Brook! I moved here from Nashville and was used to multiple high quality coffee spots in town. Before Druthers, I just had to deal with not having a nice spot without having to drive a long way towards the city. This is NOT a place for sugary drinks with a splash of mediocre espresso. The folks here use high quality beans and really care about bringing out the flavors of the coffee. Highlights for me are the simple drinks like a flat white and cold brew. Seasonal lattes are lovely and not overly sweetened. The tonic drinks are delightful as well! Want tea? They've got some beautiful tea-based drink as well. Hungry? The baked goods are insanely delicious too. Chocolate chip cookie and olive oil muffin and irresistible. Their new food menu features one of the best bagel sandwiches I've ever had too. Once Covid is over, I can't wait to sit in and do some work while I sip and enjoy the abundance of natural light and just-right modern atmosphere. The best part of all?
