I've been going to the Drybar for awhile now and I've never been compelled to write a review until now! I took the advice of some fellow yelpers and requested Nicholas to style my hair and i was not disappointed!! Nicholas is amazing!! My appt was at 12:15 and my beautiful curls was still there by 10:00 that night and he barely put any hairspray in my hair. I must admit my hair barely hold curls so i was not expecting it to last that long but it did and the next day as well! Its kind of hit and miss with this Drybar (in my opinion) but from now on I will be requesting Nicholas...lets just hope he doesn't leave or become too in demand!! love love love this place! I frequently travel to the US on business/vacation and always find a Drybar to have my hair done - thank goodness NY and California are my typical travel spots! Manhattan Beach location is my favourite so far. The greeting, the snacks, the bubbly, the chick flicks, the friendly staff, the products and of course the style - all top notch! Had an appt last week..I figured I would try this place one more time...This was my second time here within 4 months. As others have stated- the concept is great...sip wine while watching a chick flick etc..but what bothers me is that the "hair styles" really do NOT last more than 1 to 2 HOURS if your lucky! If you have coarse thick hair- then maybe you will have a better experience. My first visit was with a stylist who was very new..you could just tell. I went for the straight look....I sent an email directly to the owner and never heard back. I did not write a yelp review until now...this time- I went for the cosmo look which is a bit of curl and a bit of wave. I have lots of hair and its pretty thin and straight. When I left I liked it but it wasnt anything to totally brag about. It was my anniversary and we were headed to dinner. My appt was at 5:30pm by 7:30-8pm- the curls had come out. I had told the stylist that my first experience was really not the best and I wanted to go for more curl this time. So she applied hair spray which was fine with me bc she said the DryBar products were great and light..etc..etc...She did spray alot and I was bummed when my hair was completely flat and no curl by the time I went to dinner at 8pm. My stylist even said that the look should last until Monday. Now that's funny!! ****My advice for ANYONE who has an event....Go directly to your party, wedding, etc... directly from DRYBAR or what you are really paying for is someone to wash your hair and blow-dry it! At $35.00 plus more than 20%tip- that's alot of money. Being my second time- I will say that they pretty much run on schedule which is great BUT I am not sure the money is worth it. I could done this to my hair myself. Pretty dissappointed. :( They also have a new sign up...."Reads "Suggested Tip". "If you really like your hair- an appropriate tip of $10.00 is appreciated." I did not see that sign a few months ago. You do the math- on a $35.00 bill- that's 29% tip- well above 20%. That is the main reason I had to write a review this time. (Oh and I did tip the $10- I worked in service industry before..) but that's not the real issue here... If you have hair that is pretty thin and needs product- make sure you book your appt just before your event or you will be dissappointed. :( I really really like the concept but I have to be honest and give it 2 stars based on the amount of money and the final end result! The ladies that give it 4 to 5 stars must have great hair! ????!!??! I dont get it??!! If I go a third time- I will ask for curls that are tight- maybe that way- they will last more than 1.5 hours!! :( PS- The water pressure at sink is wayyy too low! I have long hair! Ridiculous. My daughter came in for a blow out before a dance, just like every other girl in the area. She had to wait 45 minutes after her allotted appointment time and then it took another 45 minutes for her to get done. Don't schedule so many appointments if you cannot take them in a timely manner Drybar. She barely made it on time to her event. My mom came in a few weeks ago for a blow out of her curly hair. When I saw her, I said "What did you do to your hair, it looks horrible" and she told me that she had just had it done. Well, if you're not a teenager with long hair which is easy to fix, then don't waste your money on these people. I urged her to complain but she would not even though she had to go to her regular hairdresser to fix the mess that Drybar made of her hair. I've learned from these 2 experiences and won't be spending any more time or money on them. read more

I went to Drybar for an updo (uptini) and the stylist took 45 min for a $80 uptini that did not look like what I wanted at all. I showed her pictures of what I wanted and we discuss what I wanted which I thought would be enough. I do not think $80 for my updo was the appropriate price. I enjoy the Blow outs I get but would absolutely NOT recommend Drybar for an Updo. Would not go back for this. read more

This was the worst experience I have ever had at any establishment ever. I was in from out of town for an event and booked my appointment for 10:45. I received multiple confirmations and reminders of my appointment telling me to please not be late, or they would have to cancel my appointment. When I arrived on-time, the receptionist told me they were running 15 minutes behind schedule. I sat down and waited patiently. Nobody offered me water or any kind of update. I finally left at the salon at 11:35 after waiting for 50 minutes, and there was no way they were going to get to me for at least another 15-20 minutes. I understand that things get crazy and there are bad days, but it is completely inappropriate to tell someone that you are running 15 minutes behind when you know that is no true. Then, I received an email thanking me for cancelling my appointment. read more

For a first time customer I was very impressed. The staff was very professional, genuine, friendly and knowledgeable. I have been to a few different drybars in different areas and this has to b my best experience. They listened to what I wanted and when I left I couldn't be more pleased. Wish I would have gotten the name of the nice gentleman who helped me out, but I got it when I left. Thx a million drybar u did great read more

This was my first time doing this. My friend suggested I get this done for an interview. I was worried because my hair is transitioning to its natural state and even I don't know how to handle the beast at this point. But the stylist was knowledgable and handled my hair with ease. So please with my hair right now. I feel like a normal persona again!! I will be back. read more

Today was my first time being a customer and I must say I enjoyed the experience. Considering the fact that I am African-American and my hair is very thick, I wasn't sure what to expect. I loved the way my scalp was massaged while I was getting my wash, and I love the overall bouncy look and flow of my hair. The products smell super great and I love the fact that I am offered a drink, I can read a magazine, charge my phone and listen to music all in one setting. Christian did a great job and I will be returning monthly. read more

Third time here and seems like the quality of service has deteriorated significantly. First, I arrived on time for my 2pm appointment and there was no one at the reception counter to check me in. Not a huge deal but finally after 4-5 minutes someone took down my name. 15 minutes later still no call or even acknowledgement that they were running late. I finally went to the counter to ask what was going on since I had an appointment right after with my family photographer and could not be late. The woman simply said I was 2nd in line. I found out from another patron that they had overbooked and they were in a middle of a shift change. You would think that they have experience dealing with a shift change and would not overbook at this time. After 25-30 minutes finally a stylist called my name. When I met her I simply stated that I was on a tight schedule and needed to be done in less than an hour. Apparently this must have turned her off because she ended up being somewhat unfriendly, didn't engage in any conversation at all, did her work and was done. I guess this was okay since I wanted to get in and out quickly and wasn't in the mood for small talk. Hair turned out great initially and was done within the time I asked for. However, after an hour my hair was completely flat. I guess I expected more since I had been here 2x before and had great experiences both times. I don't think I'll be returning any time soon. read more

Drybar is awesome! I went today for the first time today and the lady that did the blowout was AMAZING. i have A LOT of hair it is thick and curly but the lady did an Awesome job with it. At the end my hair was straight and manageable. They give you cookies and water/champagne to enjoy while they do magic to your hair. I just wish they had a membership with monthly payment options. This place would have received a FIVE STAR rating but I decided to only give Four Stars due to one incident. See my email response to their inquiry. Thank you for your appointment follow-up email Ms. (Mrs.) Webb. My first time experience overall was fabulous! I plan to write a review on the El Segundo Location. The only complaint that I had was that although I was 5 minutes early for my 4PM appointment, Four other women were seen before me. When I mentioned to the receptionist that I had a 4pm appointment and how much longer was my wait, she said that I was next. But then another woman was seen before me making it Five people that went ahead of my scheduled appointment. I was not seen until about 30 minutes past my appointment which I thought was very rude since I am sure the stylists want their appointment times to be respected just as much as their clients do. When a stylist finally came and introduced themselves to me and escorted me to the back room to wash my hair, I finally realized why I was made to wait for so long. My hair was combed back in a pony tail and I have dark complexion. The hair stylist who came to greet me was Black and was working with a client when I walked in for my appointment. So in my personal observation, I believe that the receptionist assumed that I was Black with Black hair and felt that a Black person would be best to work with my hair. Problem though... I'm not "Black" but "Indian". I came to this conclusion because the 5 people that preceded me, four were Caucasian and one was Asian. I'm not upset or anything... The overall treatment was great with the hair wash, mimosa, hair style and overall ambiance.... It was just made clear to me why I was seen 30 minutes after my scheduled appointment. Resolution If I may offer for the future, ... Just ask the client if they have a preference on stylist or have a few stylist on shift that knows how to work with all hair types including ethnic hair. This is on me as I didn't speak up, so be sure you do! The shampoo was so gentle & so I quick, I felt as if I had cooties and she couldn't wait to be done. "Curly, messy & casual" resulted in a full straight blow out followed by a straight iron - 2/3 of my hair is flattened to my scalp ending with sharp flat edges sticking out. Seriously so far from my request and vision, I was speechless. To her credit, she noticed my dismay and asked. When I responded "it's really not very curly " and she says "I can put in a few more curls" I knew it was too late. The receptionist asked "how was everything" and I didn't respond just handing her my credit card. Seriously great customer service as she made eye contact and asked again. I really felt so disappointed and wanted to be fair - after all, while I mentioned "curly" several times, I never stopped the blow out or the straight iron. So I responded "it's not what I expected, I guess I didn't make myself clear" Professionally, she pushed and asked what she could do. I just wanted out so didn't take her up on her offer. Long story short - don't assume they know what they are doing, ask questions during the process! But do know, if you speak up they will provide good customer service. #LiveAndLearn read more

I never do reviews but I had to because of my experience I had was so terrible. I scheduled a week in advanced to get my hair done here because I had family photos and wanted to not worry about washing and styling my hair because I have a baby and a two year old. I scheduled 7am to be the first client and I showed up at 6:55am to ensure I was on time. I checked in and waited until 7:07 when the receptionist said the ladies car broke down and can't make it. She asked if I wanted to wait an hour or come back later that day. I obviously couldn't because my photos were at 10:30 and I have two kids at home waiting for me. If the car was broke down she would've known before 7am because if your showing up to work it would be before the time you start and it was already almost 10 minutes past the appointment time. I was very irritated to say the least and I'm not stupid, she obviously was lying. Never coming back because that's the worst costumer service I've ever had! It doesn't even deserve one star but sadly it won't let me put nothing. read more

Writing a follow up review two years after the first. This place has gone way downhill. They are clearly hiring some very inexperienced stylists who don't know how to wash hair, let alone blow dry or style it. I think they don't realize that their customers all go to very good stylists for cuts and color, so they know what it looks and feels like when it's done for real. Other friends confirmed to me that they experienced the same tentative and ineffective shampoo job, and their secret is to ask for it to be washed twice. My stylist also seemed clueless as to how to comb out wet hair-- she sort of picked at it with no real intention or goal. I just asked her if I could do it myself, and she quickly agreed. She should have been mortified, but I didn't get the sense she cared. The blow dry was ok, but as usual, I regretted asking for any curls whatsoever. They never look like the "beachy waves" in the brochure, but instead they just look like whatever it is girls in beauty pageants have. Just big ole curling iron curls. Pretty dorky look if you ask me. I'll continue to get blow drys because I love not having to do it myself, but I will (1) ask for a double shampoo, (2) bring my Wet Brush so I can get the tangles out without pulling out all my hair, and (3) tell them not to curl it. read more

The phone service to book was easy and quick. The salon reception staff was very friendly. The stylist was very friendly too. Unfortunately, all that, was canceled by the worst blow dry I've had ever. The wash process was super quick, no biggie. The wet towel on my neck that I had to remove while she was blowing my hair, no biggie. The first ever "ow" during a blowdry for getting my hair caught in the brush, still not an issue. The super hot temps that are now making my scalp flake and itch, still not a problem. The problem is I asked for sexy and voluminous with NO curls for my mid length bob to go with my orange sequined cocktail dress. I got first a stealth bomber wing helmet head, then I asked her to fix it. Then I got a 1950s housewife pouf with curls all in the back. She told me she was using the curler to give lift, no she gave me curls. At this point, I had tears welling in my eyes, it's new years eve and I look like I should be on mad men. I paid and tipped appropriately regardless. The stylist also told me they usually only get long hair clients. So if you hair is anywhere above your shoulder, do not go here! read more

Huge disaster! My sisters and nieces all made appointments for the day of my son's wedding since we were all from out of town. The stylist I was assigned to me had no idea what she was doing. The shampoo was so so at best...no neck massage at all. I showed her the picture of the style I wear my short hair. It is a chunky messy do with long fringe bangs that almost reach my eyelashes. When she finished, I had a smooth, poofy old lady looking do, not even close to what I asked for, in fact the bangs were smoothed over revealing my whole forehead. There was not a mirror in front of me while this went on, but I figured she was going to use some product to get my style going. It did not happen. I showed her my picture again and she began to twist tufts of hair around the top of my head. This ended up looking like a barbed wire halo. The stylist then sent a guy over to fix it. He also started twisting it but used pomade. I had shown him the picture too. After telling him it was all wrong they asked a third stylist to give it a try. I declined as I needed to get to the hotel to dress for the wedding. I ended up doing my own hair which turned out just fine. My sisters an nieces all fared better than I but nothing really great. Just average. I wish I could give a zero star rating. The manager was sympathetic and "comped" my service but I will never trust this place again! read more

I visited Drybar Manhattan Beach for the first time yesterday. I made an appointment over the phone and got in the same afternoon. I was greeted by a friendly receptionist who asked me what I wanted to drink, I ordered champagne, very nice. My stylist, Ariana, greeted me within 5 minutes. She sat me down and we discussed what style I wanted. Since I am an older client, I didn't want big poofy or curly hair, but wanted something fun and attractive. She listened carefully and asked questions to confirm what I wanted. My shampoo was less than I expected, I felt my hair wasn't really clean. She didn't really use much shampoo and didn't clean my scalp thoroughly. Not much conditioner, either. She did ask me if I have oily hair and I said no. She didn't comb out the tangles very well. I told her that I have a lot of natural curl in my hair and do like it smoothly dried. The blowdry was OK but not what I expected for $40 plus tip. I observed that she wasn't really using the round brush to smoothly dry my hair. My style looked great but my hair was frizzy in spots, especially my bangs, which I noticed as soon as I got into my car. I noticed other stylists were spending lots of time to smoothly dry other clients. I really liked the style, though, but the next day it was pretty limp. I asked about their dry shampoo, liked what I saw and asked to buy some. I should have asked the price first---$22 for a small can of dry shampoo is way over priced. I will come back again to give the place another chance, but at this point, if I don't like it better the second time I won't be back. I walked out paying $70 including tip---pretty pricey for a blowdry and one product. read more
