I am very impressed. I didn't think they could deal with my hair. My boss booked an appointment for the ladies of the office and I was nervous about being the only one with African-Filipino hair. I even called ahead and asked if I should request someone who knows how to work with my hair type. The person on the phone assured me that they're all trained. Well, I can only speak for the woman who did my hair and she was indeed skilled. 1. She shampooed and conditioned my hair nicely 2. She combed and blow-dried my hair with very little issues with my brushing through my wild hair. 3. When she used the flat iron/straightener, she actually began at the roots! This is a rare find. 4. She styled and curled my hair in under 1 hour. That's a record. I have 1 critique but it isn't a deal breaker 1. Their hairspray doesn't hold. I appreciate that it acted as a humidity protector - yay. But, I think the curls from past reviews didn't hold because the hair spray wasn't good for that. My suggestion? Bring your own solid hairspray to use after. It's been about 3 hours and my "cosmo" hairstyle has fallen. I now have silky straight hair. read more

First time at a DryBar and definitely not coming back. The only thing that was good was the ease of making an appointment. The staff seems so disinterested and unwelcoming. I had a dry style appointment and had a new client coupon and had mentioned it on my booking, however upon checkout I was told that couldnt be used on dry style. False advertising! I would have been ok with that if the service was good. I had asked for volume and definitely didnt get that. When I asked the stylist why my hair was so flat she said because it needed a wash. So why in the world did she not say that BEFORE she started. I would have happily paid extra for a wash if that were the case. She was so not interested in her work and was done in 15 mins. Mind you I have waist length hair which if done properly can take up to an hour. Save your money and skip this salon. read more

Absolutely worst dry bar location that I visited so far (I've been to more than 10 different locations ) I've been going to dry bar since they opened the first one at Brentwood and never had such a poor experience. First of all, at this location, they are consistently running late (20-25 min). Last Friday, I ended up waiting for 40 min and missed my dinner reservation. What was shocking was that their staff were so rude and unapologetic about the delay. After I waited for 35 min, I went to the front staff (turned out the person was the assistant manager) and asked about what happened. She said with a condescending attitude you can call the customer service line. I will never go back to this location or any other dry bar. Finally when they sat me down after 40 min, the stylist blamed the delay in getting "too many ethic people" on that day. I don't even understand how that was related to them being late. The only information that I got from her comments was that great they are unprofessional and racist! I used to love dry bar and now i have to look for another place. read more

This was seriously the worst blow out i have ever had. I specifically called and asked for someone who knows how to handle curly hair and that is not at all what i got. First of all the girl who did my hair washed my hair like in a scratching motion. She was literally throwing alittle water and then scratching my scalp. It was insane. Then continues to dry my hair when its wet for some reason n if you work with curly hair you know it has to be more wet than dry. She was drying jt and then continued to try to blow dry my hair and was yanking my hair literally i just wanted to get out of there. my hair looks like trash. they offered to give me the blow out for $39 instead of 50 and to have someone fix it but im sure everyone else is just as bad especially after reading these reviews!! which i did not do to begin with. Very disappointed. I scheduled my 7:15am appointment ahead of time (about two weeks ahead of time). I was called 30 min before my appointment time to tell me they had canceled my appointment. I was on my way already and decided to show up; hoping they would give me a later appointment 1-2 hour later even 3 hour later. That day was my drive by baby shower and just wanted to pamper myself. When I showed up at 7:05am they told me they were short staff and would be able to reschedule my appointment at 5:30pm (10hours later! Than my original appointment time) or the next day! I've been customers for years, stylist are ok, but last week, I called the "bartender" to reschedule my appointment and he kindly changed the date. Have been coming here for years! I always feel great when I leave! The stylists listen to my requests which can be sort of confusing, but I always leave feeling like they knew what I was envisioning. I have the barfly membership which allows me to come in twice a month. If I don't use them they just get saved up. Now that I have been coming in more regularly I still haven't used them up. Love it!!! It is such a treat especially for this mama! It is rare that I get to spoil myself!! I have the app which after you create an account is easy to book, edit, cancel appointments straight from your phone. On top of that, I believe you can put a credit card on file (not sure if that is through the app) so paying is easy breezy. Just walk in, check in, get pampered, check out and your on your way! Love the shampooing part because they massage your head...heaven!!! Once I am done with my blow out, my hair feels amazingly soft AND it stays for a long time! They are consistently out of product (how are you out of product when all other locations including other states have plenty), they cancel appts day off with no course for resolution not to mention randomly closing other days due to lack of staff. This review is for my sister who had an appointment with Drybar a few months ago with Myra (?). She had a reservation with 2 of her friends to have their hair done. Myra, her stylist, was taking care of my sister. According to her, Myra was polite and spoke very little, something that my sister did not mind. After my sister had her hair blow dried and curled, the last piece of hair was her bangs. With a hot iron straightener, the stylist burned a large part of her forehead. Although the initial burn did not appear to be serious, but this morning she awoke to find her forehead with a LARGE BLACK SCAR!! RIDICULOUS!! Myra apologized after the fact that my sister said, "Ow," and that was it. No ice, no "is there anything I can do to help", etc. My sister did not try to argue with the employees for a free session and even tipped Myra (although it was not the suggested tip that Drybar asks for). This is a huge burn mark. I uploaded a picture of the burn next to a penny to show how large it truly is. This will definitely leave an unpleasant scar. This is her first time getting her hair styled at Drybar and although she was happy with how her hair looked, the scar left behind will be an ugly reminder. Not to mention Drybar did not give her, or her two friends, a receipt. She paid in cash but I'm pretty sure it is customary for businesses to provide receipts. Again, I did not go to Drybar with my sister and she thought the experience was great up until she was burned. We had a very lovely time at our first Drybar experience. Service was excellent and we were seen right on time. Another plus was that it only took an hour and 10 minutes for the wash, dry and styling. I had the mai tai (beachy messy waves) and my friend had the cosmo (loose curls) and we looked great when we left the salon. Unfortunately, our styles only held for about 90 minutes. I attributed this to the humidity mainly. It was a real let down as I was hoping that our hair was going to last at least for the first hour of our party which started at 6 (our appointment was at 2:30) Despite all this I would go back again. The scalp massage was great and the added treat of a mimosa or wine while your hair is styled really enhances the amount of pampering you feel. I wish they had a policy like car washes do- if you keep your receipt and your car gets rained on you get a free wash. Id love to have my hair done again! read more

The lady on the phone said it was fine, that she let the shop know. I was exactly 8min late and when I checked In with the receptionist, she told me they had a ZERO GRACE PERIOD POLICY!! And she said it in a way that it was "my loss" and deal with it. I told her that I called ahead of time, realizing that I wanted to respect the appointment time, she said that there was NO NOTICE UNDER MY NAME that I called in to say I was running late. She then said she would try to get me In if someone else was running late. So I waited. I waited 15 min and I noticed two other girls running late and the let them In. That's when the receptionist said that she can see me at 945am. My appointment was for 8am!! I had to be at work by 930am!!! I had no time to go home, fix my hair and get to work on time. I left that shop with my hair in a complete HOT MESS! And I have CURLY hair so it is not easy styling my hair. I had to go to work, where I deal with customers in a business environment, with my hot mess curly hair. :( I called the number for the shop again (which is the call center for dry bar in general) and complained and they said someone will call me to apologize and make it up to me. Four days has gone by and I haven't received a call or email. If the lady who I called first would of told me about their so called zero grace period policy, I would of just canceled my appointment all together and reschedule for another day!!! I have the prepaid deal because I do like going there. The stylists are friendly, and they don't talk much (which I kinda like) and they fix my hair how I want it. Not only did they lost my business, but I told all my girlfriends and my female coworkers (who go there often) to not go there anymore. However, with this specific location, I think its poorly managed in the employee department. When I first arrived, my stylist just seemed to be on autopilot, just here to do the job, ho-hum. I explained that I was after some big bouncy waves that would hold well into the night. I was then brought back to have my hair washed when I realized that I had booked an additional treatment, but nothing was said by the stylist, in fact, she had no clue that I had booked it. How do they not know? Strike Two! As far as the styling goes, it again, comes down the middle field. It wasn't terrible, but it was amazing either. Just half-assed. If you're feeling lazy and don't wanna curl or blow out your hair yourself or if you're a noob like me and can't curl your own hair well, this is THE place to go! For $35, they can do pretty much any kind of blowout. Perfect if you wanna look nice for a special occasion, date, etc. I got the Cosmopolitan which is lots of loose curls. The girl who did it also gave my hair more volume at the top which I requested! Loved it! :) I also love how they wash your hair and everything before the blowout, AND they offer you free drinks while you get your hair did! :) The whole process only took about 45 min. Definitelyyyy make an appointment before you go! You can do a walk-in too but you might have to wait for hours because they can only squeeze you in if there's a no-show or someone is finished early. read more

I went to the dry bar to get my hair blown out and styled. I tend to not get my hair styled if it's freshly washed because my hair absorbs too much moisture. This time, I don't know what came over me but I agreed to let Jessa wash my hair before she blow dried it and styled it. Literally within minutes of leaving the dry bar my hairstyle 'fell' and became very bush-like! I immediately called the dry bar helpline and they agreed to fix up my hair for free(I went back two hours later when my hair was less icky!) The end results were AMAZING. Stephanie is a true God send! Even though they fixed my hair for free I left Stephanie a ten dollar tip because I was so relieved to have the PERFECT hairstyle. I walked in and my appointment was on time. My stylist was Summer, and I described my event and showed her a pic of an updo I thought might work. Summer was friendly, professional, and worked very quickly. My updo was finished in about 30 minutes. When I worried about whether the updo would hold, she assured me it would stay put with all the pins, and it stayed perfect for about 11 hours! (Only 11 hours b/c I went to bed.) I would have given 5 stars just to Summer, but 4 stars b/c the uptini is $99 (double the cost of a blowout) and the seats, though new, didn't give me good back support. read more

The first time I've seen a Drybar was @ Fashion Island in Newport Beach and I thought it was such a great concept... I used to get blowouts all the time before I went out because nothing feels more amazing than Beautiful Blown Out Hair! I was super excited to see one open in El Segundo "my second home"... I made a reservation for Valentine's Day only a few days prior and was really surprised an appointment was available. My girlfriend (who comes here all the time) met me here and explained to me how it worked: there's a cute little menu with the hairstyles named after cocktails. For example, Manhattan (straight & sleek), Hot Toddy (short& curly), etc., etc. Since my hair is typically straight, I got the Cosmo (lot's of waves)... They play girl movies nonstop. While I was their "The Vow" was on... You can also order a snack box, water, tea, coffee, or alcohol and they serve little cookies in the front. They give you a very nice shampoo and use really nice products, Loreal Professional line and Moroccan Oil... It was really fun and pampering and when I was done the cashier/host offered me a full size bottle of dry shampoo, mousse, or hairspray. I chose the hairspray called "Moneymaker" and I love the way it smells! Everyone who saw me that day complimented my hair. I was a little skeptical about coming to a drybar because I am African-American and wasn't sure if a blow-dry and flatiron by someone other than my regular stylist could get my hair straight like I like it. Boy, was I wrong. Audrina did a fabulous job on my hair. I enjoyed the massaging of my scalp when she washed my hair and how she let me know everything she was using on it. And when she used the flatiron, she did an amazing job. My "ethic" hair ended up straight like a pressing comb had been used in it. Plus, my hair smelled fresh, was shiny and had body. I got my hair done today - there is a film on scalp (even though I advised the stylist that I had oils in hair and to please wash good) and I had to flatiron the frizzy mess that was left when I got home. What a waste of time and money! I specifically requested a stylist that was familiar with black hair - both times - and apparently the store doesn't check their customer requests. 7/2018 update - A representative from the region (I believe) called me in effort to rectify the disappointment I felt with last appt. She was very nice, offered a free blowout and is going to make sure I'm set up with a senior stylist for future appts. I've always wanted to try Dry Bar and what better time to treat myself than before a night out?? I made my reservation online 5 days prior to my Saturday appointment time with ease. Drybar is located in Plaza El Segundo next to Sur La Table and Starbucks. The inside of the salon is very clean and bright. There are small cookies at the reception area to munch on if you're hungry. I was given a glass of champagne while I waited. I believe you can choose from white wine, champagne and water. No refills though- or maybe there are but no one ever offered. My stylist was Lilly and was pretty quiet. Not rude or anything, but no conversation or even a smile. Maybe she was tired. I requested the cosmo tai. I enjoyed having my hair washed so this was a nice treat. The appointment lasted 45 minutes and I was satisfied with the results, but not too excited about it. What gets me is that my "blowout" didn't even last until the end of the night. Not even 6 hours. What a bummer. Will I return? Not sure. read more

I love this place! I had been to the Brentwood location before and I was so excited when I found out they were opening nearby. Everything is decorated so cute inside. They give you water or a drink, they have iPhone chargers at each station and purse holders. My hairdresser did a straight blow out for me. I have a TON of hair and it is very thick. I never do anything with it because it stresses me out. All of the other girls were getting curls and I was the only one getting it straight. It's funny how we want what we don't have. :) Dry Bar is great for special occasions or for treating yourself to a beauty day. My stylist was so friendly and even gave me some tips on how to manage my hair. My blow out kept my hair straight for 4 days. I came on a Saturday and had an 11:00am appointment but I didn't get a stylist until 11:15am. In the future if I book on a Saturday I'll make sure I don't have plans immediately after. My hair takes a long time to get straight so I should have known better. I love the Dry Bar and I highly recommend that you try it! read more

Let me start by saying that the cookies and drinks offered by drybar upon arrival make the whole experience seem a bit more elegant and yet at the same time makes you feel more comfortable. The hard decision is deciding between the mimosa, wine or orange juice. My stylist was very friendly and personable. I struggled with which style to choose from the style book. I had a wedding the next day and because of timing needed my hair done the day before. She helped me choose the mai tai. And assured me that it would look nice the next day. She then washed and started blow Drying my hair. I loved how gentle she was with me. I left a little unsure about my style but my husband and friends loved it. My hair also smelled great! I was disappointed that my style did not last through the next day. I can see drybar being great for right before a special event or a girl's day out. I couldn't see spending the cash on a weekly basis for styles that don't last multiple days. read more

I came here with a gift card on a whim for a birthday dinner I was getting ready for. This is not something I would normally do as I feel pretty confident in being able to do my hair. However, why not go if its free and your birthday? I originally requested to have the old fashioned done which I saw on the website. However I was told that this style would take a long time to create and require lots of gel and hairspray. The stylist informed me this is a hairstyle you only want to use for the day of and that's it. Mmm, alright well I guess I will do the southern comfort which features big curls and teasing. The overall experience wasn't bad. I enjoyed reading trashy magazines and drinking a glass of wine. However, the end product was much more Farrah then June Cleaver. I had total 70s hair! It looked good, but not at all what I was going for. The stylist informed me my hair doesn't need to be teased because it already had so much volume and then asked if anything needed to be changed. Since the style wasn't even close to the southern comfort look I decided to just go with it. Within a few hours my curls were already falling out and my hair holds curl really well since its thick and has texture. I would not recommend coming here if you have thing hair or hair that struggles to be styled. I ended up with a very loose curl look by the time I went to my dinner and by the next day I had only a slight wave. I have only ever had a few blowouts but they're usually done by my regular hair girl in Sacramento. I don't ever let anyone touch my hair for cuts or colors (and she has cautioned me about getting blowouts from people who knew how to handle my hair, because I have mixed hair). I came in spur of the moment and she was available and very patient as I explained my situation. She offered me the complimentary drink (pinot grigio, yum), and got my hair looking gorgeous in a timely fashion! I slept in my hair and the curls from the Cosmo-Tai fell nicely overnight. Details below: Pro- I arrived a little early and they accommodated me early! That was really nice, since I had to go directly back to work. Mediocre at best blowout. I could have gone to a beauty school for a better job, but still was nice not having to do it myself. Cons- Stylist/ Receptionists seemed very inexperienced, almost like day out of beauty school. (My gripe here is for $49 plus tip for a blowout I would think there would be much more professionalism and training.) For example, upon arrival refreshment was offered, I accepted, and then none was delivered. The shampoo was quite honestly the most lackluster I have ever had. It is usually my favorite part and it was so blah I wish it would have ended sooner than it did. Water pressure was next to none, temperature fluctuation was constant, and I don't even think she fully saturated my hair with water before trying to shampoo. I was basically scrubbed with her acrylic nails the entire time before I mentioned that I'd prefer her to use her finger tips rather than straight nails. There was no lather, and frankly, I don't feel like my hair was clean after. I decided to brush my own hair out because at the rate she was brushing (on dripping wet hair.. which is a no no) would have taken an hour. Blow-dry/ style was 3/5. OK but not great. Lastly, upon leaving I waited 5 minutes for a receptionist to arrive to check me out. Normally this would not be a big deal but I was already irritated to it felt like an eternity. Overall I'd like to say this was not an enjoyable experience, and I would not pay $49 plus tip to come here again. It really feels like Drybar has lost the magic that it once had, and feels dingy, disorganized, and untrained. Also, the staff seemed nice, but very off brand. Ie. They looked disheveled and not put together. In a salon environment, especially Drybar, I'd expect there to be a level of professionalism and style. Overall, I'd recommend going to a traditional salon for a blowout for the same price or less, to get a better experience and style. read more
