Just got my hair washed, blown out and curled for an event tonight. Worth every penny. I have long thick hair that absolutely dread blow drying. I scheduled my appointment online. I think the scheduling could be better. It would be easier to see all available and unavailable appointments at the particular location because you just have to keep entering times in hopes they have it available. Just got my hair done at the Dry Bar in El Segundo. Myra (my stylist) was amazing. I initially called and requested a stylist who is experienced with African American/ethnic hair, I was also able to book 2 hours for my appointment just in case it went over (I wasn't charged extra). I have to say I'm so impressed and happy with the experience and how awesome Myra was. She took her time to make sure I loved the style. It was such a great experience, I plan on booking with her again. If you have ethnic/course hair and on the fence with Dry Bar, don't be they are great. Myra is amazing. read more

I get my hair blown a minimum of once a week for over a year now, I do not miss. Sometimes twice a week. Thus, I'm no stranger to salons or a blow out service. I went to Dry Bar El Segundo and Riley at the front desk didn't acknowledge me and let me stand at the cash register while she looked down doing nothing the entire time just ignored me. Awkward. In fact I gave up and sat on the bench until my hair dresser came and got me and Riley didn't acknowledge or greet me once in the salon. Valerie on the other hand, when I checked out was kind and helpful however I have to give a 1 star to Riley for being the first impression of salon. Terrible I have to say. I wanted to pamper myself and see what this place was all about! I went to the newest one in El Segundo. I set my appointment for a Sunday morning, and once I got there it was already busy. The space was bright; vibrant white with pops of yellow all over. It was very clean and tidy too! I was offered cookies and a beverage, which I took water over champagne (what's wrong with me?!). I waited maybe 5 minutes and I was greeted by a very nice lady named Stephanie. She asked me if I had any big plans or events that day, and what style I would like. I asked her opinions on favorite styles, and we went back and forth on choices. I decided to do the "Mai-Tai" but with more all around curl. Stephanie brought me to the back area to get my hair shampooed, including a nice scalp massage! However, I was closest to the back office door, where a lot of traffic was, which made it difficult to relax. I tried to initiate small talk, but I had another lady next to me that was silent so I shut up. We walked to her styling station, and she was very polite to always ask if she could use product in my hair. Moroccan Oil and L'Oreal products were at hand, and smelled divine! I sipped my water while she dried my hair, and I was watching a chick flick on the massive flat screens that were mounted on the mirrors. They had little candy snack bags that you could purchase, but it was too early in the morning for that. Stephanie and I made fun of the movie together and all around had a light-hearted conversation as she curled my hair. After she spun me around to see the locks, I was so pleased with how shiny and soft my hair was! I was happy to tip her well and I bought some product too. Thank you Drybar! read more

Addicted to this place. I just moved here and have gone twice for two different occasions. I had two different stylists, both did different things and were amazing. My hair is absurdly thick and normally frizzes and gets crazy but my styles lasted for days. I will definitely be coming back....often!! Came by on a Monday during lunch - surprised that it took less than an hour to do all of my hair! Looking at previous posts, the location seemed to listen to the reviews bringing back fresh flowers and reupholstered the washing chairs. The staff was really friendly...but sometimes rather forgetful! They took my drink order twice, and never brought anything. I even asked for just water once!! Alcohol I understand..but water?! I got the cosmo-tai. Ended up with more wavy than curled hair, which wasn't the end of the world...but the hair wasn't beachy at all! Just looked like day old curls that were more deflated than anything. The wash was okay. Felt like there wasn't any shampoo and conditioner used - not sure if the product is truly that light or if they were being skimpy. The girl got water/residue splash in my eyes without knowing/acknowledging it. After my hair was soaking wet at the chair, she removed the towel and let it soak into my dress as she prepped the hair dryer! Sitting at the front near the door ended up being WAY too cold!! Had dinner plans with my office...about five hours later and the hair style didn't even last!! BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT! How could one spend that much money and not even make it to the next day?! Also the phone number never routed to the store. They go to someone in India who doesn't speak English. Just be aware you're not going to get much help! read more

Dearest Drybar, If you look at my history I came to Drybar when you first built it- I am a devotee...my first blowout I dragged groups of friends, I tweeted, I face booked, I birthday'ed partied it. This was when your prices were $32 with tip- it cost $40. Fresh flowers waited- little cookies, a new building with chairs not ripping- girls in bright yellow (proudly), my wine glass over flowing... the water had cucumbers- the movies seemed novel because, well- I hadn't seen the same film over & over being played everytime I came in... before my hair was done the stylist seemed giddy to reveal the new "me" when that chair spun around it was I swear-to-god magical...but, still the stylist stayed longer making sure when I left my hair was just right. One time two years ago- I liked my stylist so much we went and had a drink after - Crystal? we made friends. But, that was old Drybar- I get it prices have to go up- but, everything else has gone down- I'm so damn sad about it. I can get behind dropping $50 for a luxury but, what's luxurious about Drybar now? It doesn't feel special. And damn it I LOVED you. Here's some ideas because I LOVE YOU. Those flowers at the front? Bring em back. Because, girls like flowers- we notice those things. Change your movies- it's been the same movies for years- maybe have theme months- and have special cocktails to go with them... like black & white movies etc... Breakfast at Tiffanys- Champagne & croissants. Or better still music videos- make it fun to go to Drybar. Stop hiring people who don't love working there. Bring back the yellow. This dry bar used to be good but I'm assuming all the Good people left because it sucks now. This is the second time I've gone and they've done a terrible job. Within hours my hair was a mess! I had commitments so I put it in a bun and kept going through my Day. This was Sunday. I haven't hit the gym or nothing but I called today Tuesday and asked if they could just touch it up- and get this... they only touch up the same day! Is that crazy to you? Because it's insane to me. So after you get your hair done on a given day and it frizzes puffs up which it definitely will, especially if you go this dry bar, than on the same day you can get a touch up! You have til closing time ladies because they won't do your hair well for the life you! $60 dollars, your hair pull and tugged every direction... make sure you book your touch up for the same day, you'll need it. I'm so disappointed after my appointment yesterday at this location. As soon as I sat on the chair and the stylist asked what I would like done, I showed her a picture WHICH WAS POSTED ON THE DRYBAR INSTAGRAM PAGE of the style I wanted. Pictured were loose curls with two fishtail braids neatly tucked into each other at the end and seamlessly pinned into the rest of the hair. I was going to a semi-formal event, so I thought this style was perfect - put together but still fun. The stylist let me know that each braid would be an additional $10, which I was aware of, and definitely thought the pictured fishtail braids were worth the extra cost - I can do fishtail braids, just not on the back of my own head. Just to be sure the stylist and I were on the same page as to what I wanted, I specifically asked her if the braids on the photo I showed her were fishtail braids, and she said yup, those are fishtail braids. I wanted to ask her if she had experience doing this type of braid well, but I thought that'd be overkill and maybe rub her the wrong way if it seemed like I was questioning her skill, and decided I'd made my expectations clear enough with the picture and the confirmation that she knew the type of braid I wanted. She got started and was very friendly and talkative. She finished one of the braids, did the second, and then went back to redo the first one because she didn't like the way it settled, which I appreciated. Once she was done she asked if she could take a picture, which she then showed me. I could see the overall hairstyle but not the details. It looked good to me! So I went on to pay $25 for my dry style and $20 extra for my braids, and got going to make it to my makeup appointment down the street. Once I got to my next appointment I decided to take my own photo of the back of my head to check out the fishtail braids and what do I come to find? BASIC BRAIDS. You know, the type with 3 pieces of hair weaved through each other that EVERYONE AND THEIR MOM can do. I could have EASILY done these myself at home, on my own head! And they weren't even pinned! They were just tied together with a regular black rubber elastic which she made absolutely NO effort to conceal within the rest of my hair. I had no time to return before my makeup appointment so I figured I'd go back to the Drybar after, and then my makeup appointment went longer than expected and I needed to rush home to get dressed for my event, mortified that this style was what I was stuck with to pair with my formal gown. On my way home I tried calling this Drybar location through the phone number listed here on their Yelp page to let them know of the issue, but it connected me to customer service instead. Since I had no time at all to go back to get my hair done the way I requested, I requested a refund for the braids. I hope Drybar will reach back to me to make this right, and train their stylists to be upfront about their skills. read more

My appointment was originally at 10:45a and while shopping near by I got a notification that my 10:30a appointment was approaching. Weird? So I make my way there to arrive at 10:30am check in and get a brief sorry from the front deskMy drink order was taken and after seeing 5 people come in after me and get taken in I decided at 11:15a it was time to go. I have to give this location 3 stars because of two very different experiences. Recently for my birthday I decided to treat myself and make an appointment at this Drybar location in El Segundo. I had only been once before in Vegas and had a good experience so I figured I'd give it another go. The stylist was so sweet and friendly, and not to mention she did an AMAZING job. I wish I remembered her name, but she had orange/yellow so if going back I would be to point her out My hair lasted from Sunday - Thursday and received so many compliments. Happy with my first visit to this location, I made another appointment 2 weeks later for another event. I had an 8:15pm appointment which is one of the last times of the night. My visit felt very rushed and not very relaxing. The most disappointing thing was that my hair didn't even last over night, but I'm just happy I didn't have anywhere to be until the next afternoon so it gave me time to fix it. I wish I could have saved the money that second time but went in with high hopes because of my other experiences I'm hesitant to go back, it just all depends on the stylist you get! First time at this location. I could not enjoy myself and could not wait for it to be done all because of the chairs. I literally kept sliding down the seat sinking lower and lower to the floor. My tailbone was killing me. The lady who done my hair said everyone complains. I could see others sliding and frequently repositioning themselves as well. When I went to check out I asked the receptionist if they were getting new chairs. She said she "wished" and that corporate comes around often and can see customers sliding down in their seats but they are yet to get new chairs. I will NOT be back. So I was a little nervous going into my appointment because I'm a natural haired girl with fairly thick hair, so before scheduling my appointment I wanted to call to make sure that they would have someone on hand that could handle my hair. I called the 310 number but instead of reaching the actual salon it was a help desk. I was able to schedule an appointment and the rep I spoke with said she would place a note with my appointment letting them know they needed a "ethnic hair" specialist. I arrived about 15 mins ahead of my appointment and at first there was no one available to check me in. For a moment I wasn't even acknowledged and so I felt slightly awkward just standing at the front desk. One of the stylists let me know that someone would be with me shortly and then I waited some more. When I was checked in I was asked if I wanted something to drink and the lady said I could get water ( like I should have known).... uh ok The day of my appointment was very busy but when my stylist came out to assist me she was so nice. I believe her name was Sydney(sp?). Sydney again asked what I would like to drink and brought me out some water. While having my hair washed I saw that other patrons were offered a variety of beverages that I wasn't aware were available. Sydney handled my hair like a pro and I felt totally comfortable in her very capable hands. My hair turned out very very nice. Overall my experience at the dry bar was very pleasant, minus the not being greeted or blah attitude from the lady who checked me in. read more

I had an updo for an event tonight and my hair fell within 30 minutes of leaving Dry Bar. The entire bun came down because the pins were not secured correctly, so I had to redo my hair myself. After spending $90, I expected my hair to stay in place for more than 30 minutes. The girl who did my hair was very nice which is why I gave them two stars as opposed to one. read more

This was my first time visiting any Drybar location. While the experience itself was enjoyable and relaxing, the results were not great. With naturally curly hair, my hair holds curl without hairspray or products with no problem. If I curl it, it typically can last 2-3 days without needing any touchups. With that said, it was a little disappointing that within 15 minutes of getting home, my hair was completely flat. I really wanted to love the experience and was so excited to get my hair done for my engagement pictures a few hours later, but I ended up having to do my own hair anyways. Short version: I'm Black and they cannot do Black hair. I called to ask if they know how to work with Black hair about a week before and was given the generic "all staff can handle African American hair". You also cannot talk to location directly you're sent to some weird call center. The wash was fine staff was polite but they spent 1.5 hours blow drying my hair trying to get it straight. They utilized methods to blow dry that only work for non "kinky" hair, hence my hair not getting straight. They had to search for the tools that would work for my hair even though I stated I was coming and and that I am Black aka be ready. The stylist kept brushing my hair silently praying that it would suddenly go straight. I think you guys need to be honest and just say you can't do Black hair. Would've saved me the damage and money. I came here because I thought there would be LESS heat used since they're mainly a blow dry spot vs a press and curl. I was wrong. Whole process took 3 hours my ends feel and look fried. I've been coming to this location for about a year mostly every 2 weeks but lately the customer service has declined. I contacted customer support and was told I would get a follow up call from management within 48 hours and no one contacted me. Beware: CHECK YOUR CREDIT CARD STATEMENTS!! Overall, I have very mixed feelings about my experience here. The place was nice and clean, with elegant decor and comfortable chairs. However, I had a few concerns. 1) I was seated in the first chair by the cashier, so there wasn't a mirror in front of me. I could not see my hair and how it was being handled until the very end. 2) As my hair was being washed, my stylist got some soapy water in my eye and I had to ask her for a tissue to dab it off since I was in full makeup for a special event. She came back with a wad of TOILET PAPER And last but not least.... 3) When everything was finished and I was paying, the cashier asked me how much I wanted to tip and I said 15%. At first, I was surprised that I didn't get a physical or email receipt. (Keep in mind, the price for a blowout is $45 and with a 15% tip the total should be about $52). Almost two weeks later after checking my credit card statement, I realized that he had charged me $60!! (Which is a $15 tip, NOT a 15% tip) I understand that mistakes happen but as a weary shopper, I purposely REPEATED the amount that I wanted to tip, clearly saying 15 PERCENT. I feel very uncomfortable about this situation because I know that a lot of people out there don't necessarily check their statements all that often. About 5 of us came here before our office holiday as a treat to our selves. Very mixed feelings about this place, but overall I will not be back. The good: they used their purple shampoo at no extra cost for those blonde gals and you can bring in your own wine and snacks. The bad: my lady was VERY impersonal. The only things she asked me was what I wanted to do with my hair, I showed her a picture so she knew exactly what I wanted and it looked nothing similar. I showed a picture of small beach my curls and she gave me large curls, I was very confused as it wasn't even close to being similar. I also was in a chair that didn't have a mirror in front of me so I could even see that she wasn't doing what I had asked for. I could only see at the very end when I could go stand in front of a mirror. It was clear she didn't care about my experience there. Find alternative! I have been here 10+ times and the best I can say is that the service is inconsistent. I would grade the blowout as a "c" but in most cases my hair falls within an hour. Didn't offer me anything to drink, the blow dryer setting was way too hot, not sure if you're happy with your life or job but throwing brushes etc. Just careless. Yesterday was my first time at the Dry Bar and it was wonderful! I was very curious when they were constructing Dry Bar and when I googled them, I couldn't believe it......the south bay has been long-overdue for a place like this!! My stylist was Katherine, she was very sweet and she went over some of the styles with me. I told her that I was in her hands and took her advice on the Mai-Tai style. I was treated to a nice glass of Pinot. Everyone there is so nice and welcoming, and I'm going to treat myself to a membership because: 1)I looked like a bombshell when I left 2)I deserve it 3) My husband couldn't take his eyes off me/my hair....no more "Mom-do/ponytail" 4)There's no way I could ever get my hair to look like this.....it's the next day and my hair still looks great. 5)I REALLY deserve it! and so do YOU! Although I'm going to ask for Katherine again, I could tell by watching the other stylists that they're all really great too, you can't lose with any of them. The atmosphere was very comfortable and there was a mix of ages as clientele. One bonus I didn't know(DUH!): They wash/condition your hair for you! I wasn't aware of this and showed up fresh out of the shower with my wet mop piled high on my head. Now, I know better for next time, one less thing for me to worry about. My friend raved about this place. I really wanted to like DryBar. I sure wished my first experience was a pleasant one. I loved my hair but wasn't too happy with the experience. Here is what happened: I made an online appointment a week in advance. After a couple of days, I've changed my mind to get an UpTini. A couple of days after I made an online reservation, I was in the neighborhood so I walked in the store to change my menu from Mai Tai to UpTini. The day of the appointment, I show up about 10 min early. Promptly, at my scheduled time, I get seated. Then I find out that somehow they never updated the menu, so I was still booked with Mai Tai. The stylist told me that she can't do it and needs to get someone else. No problem, I thought. So I wait some more. A new stylist comes with a smile. She checks out my hair and asks me if we can skip hair washing. I felt like maybe she was in a hurry due to the menu mix up, so I said sure, since I had just taken a shower 2 hours earlier. Overall, I think she did a great job with the up do. However, I was a little annoyed the fact that they still charged me a full $70 with no wash and she didn't even offer me a drink. I started coughing from all the hair spray and had to ask for a glass of water. So I make an appointment online a week in advance, I walk in to change my menu and they mess up my appointment. I ask the lady at the counter, what I should do next time to avoid the mix up. She tells me I should call, even though I might get connected to a call center. I'm thinking, how difficult is it to change the appointment when a client WALKS INTO THE ACTUAL STORE to make appointment changes?? No apologies. No shampoo. Not even offer me a drink when everyone around me was sipping a glass of wine or mimosa and they still charge me for full $70. Not the most pleasant first experience. read more

This place wasn't bad, but it wasn't the 5 star treatment I was hoping for. There were a few pros: -champagne -prompt service -good-enough looking hair (while it lasted). Now on to the cons... -My stylist was totally rude. I am not the kind of person who likes to completely talk your ear off, but I expect to at least be treated to a simple "oh are you going to an event tonight?" or something... instead I sat in complete silence. -My hair looked nice, but it was not at all what I had asked for. I asked for a lot of volume, and it was even flatter than when I let my hair air-dry. It looked pretty good though, so I was overall happy... until I got home. Just in the short 20 minute car ride home my hair was about as straight as it could be and it didn't even look like I had it done. And that's saying something because I always joke that my hair looks BETTER the day after because it stays so long. Now I don't want to completely deter you from going here because it has potential, it has a nice vibe with champagne and cookies, and from what I could tell other people looked great. I did not have the experience I was expecting, but maybe I just have high-expectations. Oh well. If I went back I would ask for a better stylist, and would ask her to LOAD on the hair spray, and maybe it would be the 5-star service that everyone else is commenting on. read more

I love the efficiency of Drybar- they shampoo and condition your hair, and you sit in the chair for about 45 minutes while they blowdry, tease, and curl away. Then you walk out smelling great and looking awesome! Cons? I hate their automated calling system. You can't just call the branch you want to make an appointment, you have to call a general line and speak to a person who then sets the appointment for you on some like huge general calendar for all branches or something. And if you have to cancel or change your appointment, you again have to call this same number. I feel like it'd be easier to just call the branch you want and speak to someone there. Needless to say, I always walk out of here feeling fabulous and the hair lasts for a while. I have some thick, long asian hair and usually when I curl it, it tends to only last for a few hours. This place is girl heaven. Cookies, mimosas, the latest magazines and chick flicks playing on the big screens. The salon is beautiful. The staff is genuinely nice - no snobby front desk girls here. Not a fan of writing bad reviews, but I could not help notice the decline in the service of this Drybar location since I first started going there 4 yrs ago. They used to be on it. Greeted their customers, wait time was no more than 3 minutes, they offered drinks, etc. the last few times I have been there this year was disappointing to say the least. I waited 10 minutes each time and the people at the front barely noticed I was there (EACH TIME). This last time just did it for me. No acknowledgement, the gentleman who washed my hair did such a bad job in that he left the back of my hair practically dry. They did not offer even a glass of water. I see that there are plenty of places in Hermosa Beach closer to my resident that offer $35 blow dries. I also thought it was weird that they were not as busy as they used to be. I used to frequent this place. It's very sad to see the service decline because that was the only reason why I did not mind paying the higher price as opposed to the other blow dry places. Was skeptical to try this spot since it seems like the ratings for Drybar in general seem to be just okay. I ended up receiving a gift card for a blow out and decided to chance it and use it for a friend's wedding. The place was very busy when I arrived for my 2pm Sat apt. I only waited 5 min before getting taken back to get the wash, which felt amazing and smelled great. My stylist was sweet and easy to talk to. The three stars are for the great customer service. Everyone there was really nice and accommodating whether it be getting me some champagne, magazines or making sure I was comfortable. The rom-com movies that were on the big screens made for a fun and girly atmosphere too. So for the downside... The blowout! I asked for the Cosmo and made sure to let her know that I wanted VOLUME. The second my stylist started to blow dry my hair, I began to have a bad feeling about where it was going. The way she was blow drying my hair was by firmly pulling it down and straight with a roller, thus removing all volume and all potential volume from my hair. After it was dry, she began to curl it by using a curling iron and also some curlers on top. Despite all of her effort, the finished product was baby doll ringlets and no volume. Yikes. I am actually happy the products and hair spray she used did not hold long (a common problem I've read in many of these reviews). Thirty minutes after getting home my hair was loose and wavy and flat. I ended up using my $15 wand to create some curls and get to my friends wedding in time. So moral of the story, Drybar is a risk! Choose the event you are getting a blowout for.. carefully! read more

My first time going to a Dry bar and probably also my last. Wash: The hair washing was not good at all - probably one of the worse I've ever had at any hair salon. I always look forward to getting my hair washed because it feel soo good and is so relaxing, but it was done so half assed here that I don't even know why they bother. I could have done a better job at home and then come in. Blow: I got the Mai Tai with some extra body, which I thought was okay. It didn't look amazing, but not bad. I have very thin and fine hair, so the entire wash and blow only took 35 mins. To be honest, I had hoped it would have taken a bit longer, since it's nice to just be pampered - and because I was paying $40! I definitely didn't think it was worth the $40 and most likely will not be coming back again. read more
