I came for a walk in and the girl gave me an estimated 20-30 minutes and gave me an 11:30 appointment and I ended up waiting 50 minutes! Ridiculous never come here!!!!! My first experience was amazing. A guy who normally works in west Hollywood was helping the studio city location. He really listened to me and did a beautiful job. Sadly, my experience was quite different the 2nd time. As soon as I walked in I was informed the internet was down and they can only take cash. Luckily I had cash. Next, the woman that came out to do my hair didn't speak English very well. She also was quite rough and burned my scalp several times with the dryer. I tried to politely tell her and at the same time I showed discomfort so that perhaps she would stop, although it continued. 40 minutes of agonizing pain. People have different hair. I have thin blonde hair and my hair doesn't require as much tugging to get it to do what u want. Never again. read more

My appointment was at 3:30, I left about 3 hours later. Before booking the appointment I made them aware I had African American hair. Anyways I come in and the first stylist doesn't even bother to brush / comb my hair in the sink and instead painfully runs her long nails through my head. During the blow dry she didn't even put heat protectant and just put this spray. I stopped her and asked her if she could stop and just wash my hair so i could leave. The receptionist insisted they had a stylist who is "very experienced" with African American hair. . Anyways I get my hair washed and come back and the "experienced" girl begins to work on my hair. Before blow drying she tells me she's just drying my hair but it won't be straight till she straightens it. (Which should have been a red flag as the girls at the Burbank location get it as straight as possible through blowdrying so they can 1) get it as straight as possible and 2) so they don't have to do so many passes) She blow dries my hair and when done doesn't even ask me if i like it. She just asks me if i want hairspray then directs me to the receptionist. My hair looked like an Afro with straight ends. I really think this place should go through training on how to deal with African American hair or simply deny my appointment. I'd rather that then be given this horrible quality service. Anyways I call customer service who says they will escalate it to whoever but I would still have to pay. Told them they were out of their mind and let the receptionist know while customer service was still on the phone that I would be leaving and would not be giving them my card information and if they still charged me without authorization then that would be their business. They need to diversify their stylist. Not everyone has straight hair that is deemed "easy" to do. I've had better and not just by African-American hairdressers. Although they should have staff of different ethnicities and since they have a "school" that they have to attend why not have them do ALL kinds of hair. I want to save money too. I get my hair done once a week. If you go early there is no problem with parking. They have always been on time. I have long curly hair and it's never taken over 50 minutes from start to finish. Whereas if I do it it's more like an hour and a half with me sweating like I went out for a jog. They have even taken me last minute as a walk-in. Place is clean. Staff is friendly. I always come out looking great. These are the things I like. **********Things I dont like******* And maybe no one cares but here they go. I have never seen anyone of the stylists clean a brush. They usually take it out of a drawer and use it. Considering how busy they are I really hope they do this between every client. They dont wear a uniform. In certain settings I dont like individuality. It looks sloppy. Last but not least I know blowouts are a luxury but prices keep going up. It's now $45. For $45 I can pretty much go anywhere else. The worst Dry Bar I've ever been to. It's the shabbiest looking by far (the bathrooms are essentially being used as storage) and the stylists were the worst in my opinion. I asked for a very simple style, blow dried straight with Kate Middleton esque bottom curls and I came out looking like a Southern Pageant girl (not that there's anything wrong with that) the WeHo and Santa Monica locations are the best in my opinion followed by Brentwood. read more

I will never return to the Drybar-Studio City. I arrived Sunday evening at 6pm for my appointment and Rebecca called me back promptly. She washed my hair and escorted me back to the styling chair. After she asked me how I wanted my hair styled, she began working. She was pulling my hair with an excessive amount of force with the styling brush to dry it She continued until she finished and said go look into the big mirror behind you. I got up from my chair and felt may hair and said "Rebecca my hair is still wet"!!! She said okay, come back to the chair and I'll dry it some more. I was appalled. I walked back to the chair, sat down and she continued to dry my hair. She then said "you're done and escorted me to the front of the establishment. I paid and left. That evening I was sent a survey which I didn't complete until I arrived at my office the following day. I rated my experience a one star. On Friday, December 13th the following week I attempted to schedule an appointment for Saturday, December 14th, knowing I would request another stylist. I was blocked from booking online. Every appointment, beginning at 7:00 a.m. was taken until 7:00 p.m. at the Sherman Oaks Salon. I was referred to West Hollywood or Burbank. read more

I was excited to go to Drybar but maybe my expectations were a little too high. When I arrived the receptionist asked if I wanted anything to drink. When I asked what my options were, I was told 'strawberry water or cucumber/lemon water.' (no Mimosa or champagne like some other reviewers said they were offered). I told the receptionist I would love some cucumber/lemon water. She got up from her chair, went somewhere, and I never saw her again. I stood there for a couple of minutes, wondering what happened to her, then my stylist came to get me and even though the receptionist walked by me no less than 2 times, she never remembered that she had left to get me water and then totally forgot about me. My stylist was a very nice person. However, this is the first time I've ever, EVER had my hair shampooed where the person shampooing my hair never once asked me if the water was too hot, or whatever. And more than once, the water started running down my face. I had to quickly grab the towel to prevent it from running all the way down. And then sitting in the styling chair, to read that a suggested tip on a $35 blowout is $10... wow, that's almost a 30% gratuity. Really? read more

Sometimes it's just nice to be pampered. To have your hair blown dry for you in an efficient 30 minutes. Sometimes it's nice to be able to make appointments online at your convenience. Sometimes it's nice to drink some wine or champagne, some cucumber lemon water or orange juice and watch a chick flick like Devil Wears Prada or Bride Wars while your hair magically become beautifully styled. This place does a stellar job of bringing the idea of weekly blow dries to generations Y and below. This isn't your nana's salon with its cute white and yellow decor, piped in classic rock and iphone chargers at every station. I also love how social they make it with the ability to book in groups together online, now I just gotta to convince my girls to become Drybar addicts with me. read more

This was my first experience at Drybar, and I was really excited, as I had an important meeting I wanted to look my best for. My appointment was for 10:15 and I know how important it is to arrive early, as I respect my time as well as my stylists time. I check in at 10:10 and I told by the receptionist that I was be seated "right away." So I stand around and realize it was exactly "right away." so I move over to sit at one of the open chairs. A few minutes after, a girl walks in and says she had a later appointment, but changed it to 10:15 at the last minute. The receptionist tells the girl that's fine, and she takes a seat as well. Not too long after, she gets called to start her service. I am thinking, I have to be next. Not only did I arrive before her, I was told I would be seated right away. I still wait. It's now 10:22 am. The receptions turns to me, and asks me, with a blank look as if she has never seen me before, "are you waiting to be seated?" I am thinking, "You have got to be kidding me!" After she figures it out and I wait some more, I am seated. My stylist was very friendly and did a good job, but the whole experience was lost and not cool. I can't decide if I will come back or if I need to try a new location. This one is less than 10 minutes from me. read more

I have been wanting to try drybar for so long & was so excited to finally go yesterday in preparation for a wedding. Since it was my first time, I didn't know exactly what a floater was but she definitely did not provide that service- but luckily they didn't charge me for it after all. The girl who did my hair was polite & friendly- no issues there. But I warned her my hair doesn't hold curls as good as it used to so maybe the tighter the curls the better and I can always run my fingers through it later. Well she decided my hair was holding it just fine and she preferred to brush it out & not have the curls be so obvious & tight. I drove to the Sherman oaks mall and literally 30 min later when I sat in the chair at Bloomingdales to get my makeup done, my hair had gone flat. I was so sad & frustrated. Had to rush home so I could curl my own hair with a wand before heading out to the wedding . Wanted to love this service but I'm only incredibly disappointed! read more

I love Dry Bar. I go two days a week, in between blowouts I simply put my hair in a bun at night and I'm good to go the following day. Nicole and Erica are in my opinion, the most talented of the group. Make sure and download the dry bar "app" that way you can simply book your appointment online anytime day or night. $35 for being treated like a queen for 45 mintues? Sign me up! I arrived for my noon appointment and was greeted by a very nice hostess that asked if I wanted anything to drink. I stopped to think, and she ran down my options...Mimosa? Champagne? Wine? Orange Juice? Water? She had me at Champagne! With my mimosa in hand I ran down their menu and opted for the Southern Comfort, which was essentially Steel Magnolias hair. I was then met by my stylist "Sammi" who took me (& my mimosa) back to their wash room. We chatted and she gave me a great scalp massage while she lathered me up with some yummy smelling goodness. We discussed what I wanted and she gave me her suggestions. I was brought back to her station, asked if I wanted anything else, and she got to work on a fabulous, bouncy, voluminous blowdry. Why 4 stars you ask? Parking was a slight pain on a Saturday...and there was a bit of an error upon check out. I used a Groupon, but that gal charged my card the full amount anyway. I didn't even realize it, but I got a call from them later that afternoon alerting me of the mistake and offering a huge apology. Will be back! read more

My appointment began a little past the start time, which was fine with me. I did not get the water I asked for, and waited until half my blowout was over to ask again. I had been to this location, and did not like it, but decided to give it a try again. Once again, I was disappointed. It does not compare to the West Hollywood location. I don't understand why my hair becomes flat and unattractive everytime I get a blowout at Drybar. It was a Monday, and most salons are closed Mondays, including my regular stylist, so I didn't have another choice. I don't know if its the product they use, or the blowdryer or just the fact that half my hair ends up in little strands and pulled off due to the proximity of heat to my scalp, but I was disappointed with my blowout. There was no volume, even though I did the cosmo/mai-tai. I did ask to not use a curling iron, because I believe real hair stylist can create waves without one. My hair is naturally wavy anyway. Of course within an hour of the blowout, my hair was 100% flat and unmanageable. It was my 8th anniversary with my boyfriend, and we went out to a fancy dinner. I wish I didn't end up spending the $ and used it towards something else instead. Drybar needs to hire more professionals or use better equipment. Hiring professionals is not enough, there needs to be some sort of training to make sure people are given what they ask for and follow certain standards. A flat look is not a standard drybar should be proud of. My blowout was painful and burned my scalp. I don't know why people keep tugging instead of combing it out then using the brush again. all my hairs on the top of my head had an electrecuted look and I ended up having to part my hair from a different place so that they would not show or frizz up. My regular stylist uses a brush only, and that never happens with her, everything miraculously stays in its spot. The only thing that disappoints me more is the obnoxious "tipping rules" they place all over the front counter and blowdry bar area. It is extremely rude. I understand tipping people when your service is over the top and you look wonderful. But, $10, on top the the $35? That's ridiculous. It's also rude how you have to say your tip to the person ringing you up. Why is there not an option to write it down when you sign the receipt??? The signs placed in frames are just wrong, pretentious, and pressure people. Also, the brown haired girl at the front desk is pretty rude. She's the one who asked me if I wanted water, which I eventually did due to all the heat in the room, and she never brought it. She kept giving looks while passing by or restocking some stuff on the mirror wall. She was also very cold and unwelcoming, during the checkout process as well. read more

I have had about 5 blowouts here...none spectacular, several lackluster. Its a great concept but the execution is poor. The blowouts are done in big sections to save time and get you out of the chair and at the register as fast as possible. But that leaves the hair unfinished and cuts the life of the blowout significantly. I also bought a "monthly membership" which i miscalculated by one day and tried to use but they would not accomodate me, even though they dont send you any reminders or give you a card that states the exact dates of use. So i cancelled it and had to call for weeks trying to get a refund. SO, i lost the service i paid for by 1 day but it wasnt a problem for them that i had to wait almost a month before they could do a simple refund. And not one manager offered any consolation. Do not come here unless you have an appointment! NEVER, EVER, EVER!!!!! Don't believe the sign 'Pop-ins Welcome!', it's a total lie. First thing I asked when I walked in the door was how long the wait was, and the 'assistant manager' said it could be anywhere from 5 to 45 mins. I thought I could wait 45 mins, no biggie. An hour and a half later, I was still waiting with not even an offer for coffee or water! After complaining to the manager, he ended up doing my hair. He did a pretty good job, considering it was done in a rush. What was most upsetting was the lack of honesty. If you have 25 people with appointments, be realistic about the wait time. That's what good customer service us all about! I know is not going to be 5 mins or 10, so don't make me waste my time when I could have gone somewhere else. read more

Tasha, with corporate, spoke to me about my experience and made sure she took care of me the next time I went. Well, they sure delivered! I refuse to patronize any retail establishment that has really crappy, scratchy sounding outdoor speakers blasting really bad music choices as you walk by. I always request Azzie, she does an amazing job time and time again. Their conditioner (I think they call it Bay Breeze) worked wonders on my hair. I would def recommend it. I book appointments with the app, I'm seated with my stylist right away and the whole staff is great. Azzie makes sure everything is perfect before I leave and is just a fun person to be around. I've been coming here for years, but yesterday was an awful experience. I showed up at 5:55pm for my 6:00pm appointment...they didn't get to me until 6:50pm. There were other ladies that had been waiting since 5pm and some people who showed up after me even just walked out when they saw the ridiculous wait. What made it worse was nobody acknowledged the wait, we had to keep asking what was going on. Nobody offered a reason, a coupon, or even water or something while we all waited. The only reason I didn't leave was because it was my birthday and I wanted to look nice. By the time I got my blowout, the stylist was clearly overwhelmed and the end result wasn't good. I don't even think ky roots were fully dry and I asked for some shine spray or serum and hair spray and she put in the smallest amount. I had to leave because I was already late (had to push back my dinner reservation twice) and by the time I got home 10 minutes later my hair was already flat and frizzy so I just put it in a bun. Blowout was good but HORRIBLE customer service. Purchased a "coaster" which is their version of a voucher for a blow out that never expires, a while back and when I came to pay, receptionist had no clue and took down my credit card info, fine. She assured me I would not be charged and corporate would reach out but she had no way of overriding the system. I was charged and even though I have now reached out to corporate 5 times, they have yet to resolve the issue and I have double paid for a blowout. This is so unfortunate as I have been a loyal client since they first opened in Brentwood and have met Ali and her brother and have supported them along their journey. Not to mention that I purchased a few of these and am not sure now what to do with them since no one has bothered to reach out. Their customer service is obviously routed to overseas and their English is awful. I would expect more from a premium brand and have even asked to speak to a manager and just get the run around. read more

It's been about 3 years since I left my initial review. I'm more satisfied as a customer with the Studio City location. I like most everyone that works there. The app FINALLY has been re-worked and no longer creates duplicate profiles. It got the upgrade to 4 stars instead of 5 is simply because of the extension policy. My personal issue was resolved and I greatly appreciate how their corporate office handled it, but overall I think the policy itself needs to be rethought. Only Full Sew-Ins and Clip-Ins have to pay the extra $20 for their service (I already tip $20 minimum so that'd be $80 out the door!! I think NOT.. May as well go to my normal salon for that price). I understand the time factor but women with full sew-ins shouldn't be penalized because it's no different than washing/blowing out a full head of natural hair. In fact, because of the amount of hair I have and the length, it takes longer to blowout my natural hair than it does when I wear extensions. What I've discovered is that it boils down to the stylist you're paired with. There are two stylist that can do my hair with the extensions and get me in and out in under an hour... BUT there are a few stylist that aren't familiar with extensions and they take a really long time (one even taking almost 2 hours). For that, I understand the extra fee IF it were solely because of me having extensions. The last stylist I went to earlier this week got me in and out in 40 minutes flat and I LOOOOOVED my hair!! Too bad she only works on Sunday's. Anywho.... Give it a whirl and find the right girl (or guy) and you'll be a happy camper. read more

Honestly, this last time really was my final time going back, i made an appointment because i was going to the Drake concert, i have relatively straight smooth hair, holds curl and has been bleached so it handles product well. I wanted a Messy Miati type style. Something Sexy!. i walked out with smooth southern curls and alot of volume(i looked like a southern charm mom). NOT at all what I had asked for. and I was in such a rush and so disappointed i paid for her services and left. stopped at the drug store grabbed a bunch of moose and dry shampoo to try and had to fix it myself. I have A LOT of hair and its long but ladies Josh is a PRO and I don't trust my hair in any one else's hands. The environment and decor is so refreshing and did I mention the complementary beverages. The receptionist Tish took very long to check me in cause she was running back and fort taking and bringing champagne as if that was their priority than talking to customers standing by the check in line looking stupid. Finaly after checking in there was no sits so had to wait by the washing area, after 30 minuets I went back to the cashiers to let them know I'm leaving, that's when she said someone is coming to take me. When I asked her "are you always half hour behind" she replied "I don't know, I'm just handed the tickets and do my work" . Make a story short She spent only 24 minutes on my blow dry and style and as I was checking out I told Tish I wasn't happy about this and that I was gonna write this review and she just said have a nice day. Drove all the way to the appointment to be told they couldn't find it and that their system has been having issues. That is extremely poor customer service. If you know your system has been having issues why would you not take the appointment. In addition, prior to my arrival I called and spoke to a representative who informed me that the appointment was set for 8:15pm and that he was calling to make the salon aware ( this was my first time so I wanted to be sure they received all of the info which is why I called). I was super hesitant to give this place a try from the beginning so once she said that I didn't push the issue, I'm not begging for an appointment that I already scheduled. I had a great experience. I let the woman know exactly what to do and she was able to. The price is cheap in comparison to other salons in the area. Not sure where the low starred reviews are coming from, but I didn't find any issues. Just let the stylists know what you want and they will do it. Most people just look down on their phones the whole time and do not check what's going on with their hair.
