I've never had an issue with a Drybar experience until this time. I have fine, 3C curly hair. Twice a year, I visit this Drybar location, and I've never had a problem in the five years I've been going here, except for my experience two weeks ago. When I book an appointment, I always ask for someone experienced with curly hair because I've found that stylists who are not POCs sometimes are scared to work with curly hair, and it can turn into a nightmare even though my hair is really easy to manage and blow out. My stylist washed my hair, and I was immediately concerned because she seemed unsure of how to wash hair properly, but I decided to let it go since my hair felt clean enough and I hadn't come in with super dirty hair. The blow dry wasn't terrible, and the style looked great. However after I washed my hair, I noticed significant heat damage from how she blew out my hair. I've never experienced this in all the years I've been coming here. for clarity purposes: I do not add heat to my hair after I have it done. So I know that the heat damage should not come from anywhere else but this service. I've worked very hard to take care of my hair, and I'm honestly at a loss for words about how much damage I have. Please make sure that if you ask for someone with experience with curly hair, they truly have that experience. I have been to Drybar only one other time years ago and thought I would treat myself today considering I remember have a good experience. I am giving two stars only because my hair doesn't look terrible, but it is definitely not what I requested and to be honest I could've done the. Final result at home. However I am extremely disappointed by the quality of my appointment today. I booked a cosmo hairstyle and the entire appointment seemed haphazard. The shampoo felt lazy but I was willing to give the stylist the benefit of the doubt because I was there for a blowout not a shampoo, and I know sometimes dirty hair holds better; but then the style was also not great. I specifically asked for the cosmo and mentioned I was going to a wedding and wanted it to last all night. Sje used big curlers which felt wrong to me based on pictures but I trusted the professional l. She barely used any hairspray and it didn't even last the subway ride home. My curls were flat before I even walked in the door. Further I suspected that the level of curling wasn't what I had asked for with the cosmo but I trusted the professional. However, when comparing pictures of the cosmo style online with what I got in salon it became clear that even at the salon it was not the number or tightness of curls I anticipated. It was my first time at Drybar and I'm sad to say that I'm really disappointed with the experience I had. I'm writing the review I wish I saw before booking here. I am celebrating an anniversary and this place really fell short of my expectations, as I've gotten many blowouts in the past that far surpassed this one for less money. 1) Note: the website is misleading. I booked a Dry Style as I was on a slight budget which was a little over $40 with tip. The website read "Need a quickie? Pop in for our 30-minute service! Come in with clean, dry hair and we'll add waves, braids, curls or straighten. Starts only at $35!" - I came with hair washed and dry ready to get it blown out with curls like they advertised, and they informed me right away that they could only use heat tools (the curling barrel was very thin as well for my taste and didn't give me the look I was going for) and not a blow dryer which made no sense to me at all. This was incredibly disappointing as I came in looking for a big bouncy curly blowout and was told immediately to essentially lower my expectations even after I informed them it was my anniversary :(. I asked if there was anything that can be done later on and I think she felt bad (I won't reveal names as the woman who styled my hair was very kind) and she blew out my top bangs to give it some volume, but it wasn't what I came to get. 2) The staff was friendly for the most part but seemed to want me in and out of there ASAP which made me feel a little sad as I still paid for the service. An example of this was that instead of straightening my hair first and then curling it or even straightening at the root, she used the thin barrel of the curling iron to get it semi-straight but I still have some baby curls there :/. I appreciated that a staff member offered me something to drink--that was certainly a highlight! But I feel like I paid $40+ for a little bottle of water and some curls. 3) I had no heat protectant in my hair and no product was offered to be put in my hair which can really make or break a style and how long it holds. I had to request that product be put in my hair and even then I only got a heat protectant and a hair spray? I'm not sure as she didn't tell me or show me ://. If you know and love Drybar, I'm glad it works for you! I just couldn't understand how I informed them ahead of time online that I was celebrating a big day and they plopped me in a dim back room where the mirror was so high I couldn't see the full style until the end. This is a very pretty place with all the niceties of an upscale blo dry place. I went to use my app to nook an appt and the app didn't work. I called the main number for the salon and explained it to them. She told me not to worry- there was a special I wanted to get- $10 off for the blowdry and $10 to use in January 2020. When I got to the appt, they told me no it has to have been booked on the app even though I explained my whole story. So then I had to call the main number again- speak to them for over 20 minutes, 4 people later - they made it right. The $10 came off this blow dry and they told me Not to worry about the one in January . We shall see. The blow dry came out very nice and I like the stylists there so it would be a shame if what they sag doesn't come true. read more

Consumers Beware...I am a regular and barfly member, on Friday i had asked for a very experienced stylist for my blow out as my regular stylist was out, the person they gave me did not know how to blow dry, she actually got the brush tangled in my hair and I had to help her get the brush unstuck. My hair came out horrible , i just wanted a simple blow dry with body... Never had a problem before. i had a party to go too that evening hence why i was getting my hair done. I left dry bar, BY THE TIME I GOT home IT WAS WORSE and I redid my hair including adding hot rolllers to get the body i wanted. I called dry bar when i got home left a voice mail asked them to call me back, i never had an issue like that , and it cost me good money. They never returned my message, so today i called and spoke to the mgr,she said my vm was noted in my record, apologize that my message was not returned, she said she needed to get approval from the owner for a do-over, i said i want me hair redone. She said the owner said the policy is to get a re-done it has to be within 24 hours, i said i called and no one called me back, how convenient of them them , she offered me a free add on. I said you tell the owner she just lost a customer , as i was a loyal customer. The owner hires inexperience stylist, we the consumer needs to pay price for their bad hiring decision. As a consumer i expect to get the service I paid for, and i did not, they did not honor my phone call message when i called as soon as i got home. I am also going to cancel it on my credit card, i don't mind paying for service, but if i don't get the service i paid for then i should be able to get a credit or redo. What made it even more disappointing is I trusted Drybar to do my updo as a maid of honor in a wedding I was attending that evening. From the moment I arrived I was not even greeted & rudely asked about my appointment. My stylist barely spoke with me & made me feel like I was inconveniencing her by being there. Yes, yes, yes, and yes. Arrived to NYC on Saturday morning (looking like a scrub who just flew on a 6am flight). The airlines lost my luggage. How is a girl supposed to be NYC chic without her luggage and beauty tools? Easy, Dry Bar hooked me up!! Fortunately there was same-day availability (though very limited). I had a 3pm appointment and they were running a little behind (met with my stylist around 3:25). Was provided with some cucumber and lemon infused water (yum). My stylist gave a fantastic wash (scalp massage included) and the proceeded to blow dry magic into my hair. I came out looking like an effortless mermaid. In all, with long and thick hair, this process (start to finish) took about an hour. This experience really lifted my bad mood. My luggage didn't return in time for my event, so luckily I had some local friends help dress me and do makeup, but Dry Bar really helped keep the focus on my hair, so that all else wasn't noticeable. It is true, when women look good, they feel good, and Dry Bar really gave me the confidence that I was lacking on this day. They are extremely racist, unprofessional and most important of all lack coordination and proper communication skills to deliver the best customer service. I have booked three times with this same Drybar and every single time is an issue and I am never able to make it to their chair. The last straw was that I called to make my appointment THINKING that it was the DB at Brookfield place (because when I googled it they didn't show as closed inside the mall and I called and received an answer) but it seems like they have forward the number to the DB in tribeca and they never had the decency of letting me know through email or even through the phone, I had to get on my flight my hair undone because they have no professionalism and seem to think people's money is tissue for them to wipe their asses. Some MAJOR work needs to be done in dealing with 1. The racism 2. The lack of professionalism 3. Poor communication skills 4. The dismissal of customers. If you don't want to work go be a bum on the street, it's free but if you are working bc you gotta pay your bills because you wouldn't want to be in a situation where you are homeless then you really have to get up every day and choose to go do whatever job you have the best way possible so it benefits you. My first experience here wasn't very good. Had horrible welcome from front desk and a blowout that didn't keep more than 5 min. However, the customer service was very good to honor a complimentary blowout in the future to make up for it. My second visit was night and day different. The welcoming was still not as warm and friendly as I hoped. But then again I moved from LA and it's just the NYC way I guess. My stylist this time was much better. Friendly and really listened to what I wanted. The service started 15 min past the appointment time which was frustrating cuz I was already in a hurry. But once it started, was efficient. I took my wife there today. We arrived 20 minutes early, for a 2:15 appointment. We had our child in the car and I went in just to check in because I know they have a strict 10 minute grace period. They asked me if she's coming in, and I told her we would just wait outside and would come in later. Then she told me about the 10 minute grace . I went out front to talk to my wife and a couple minutes later, one of the staff opened the door quickly and yelled out upset "is she coming in?!!" I walked back in and asked them what the issue was. They reminded me of the 10 minute grace period. So, I told them I was very confused, because our appointment time was for 2:15, and I asked them when does the grace period start, when I walk in the door? She literally walked away, and didn't respond. I asked someone else to clarify, and she just looked at me and said "I didn't know the appointment was for 2:15". And still didn't respond. My wife went in just to be amenable. Once in there, they ignored her until they were done with their conversation...no one looked at her! Or welcomed her. Once they finished talking they said "she'll take care of you". One of the worst blow outs I've ever received. Let me start by saying that my hair is very easy to style. It's fairly healthy, not frizzy, and holds curl very well. I asked for the Cosmo Tai, which is smooth on top with loose waves at the bottom. I met my stylist and told her that my hair holds curl extremely well, so to err on the side of looser curls since they won't fall out very much. Things started off poorly when I noticed her blowing upwards on my hair instead of down, so that all my little hairs were sticking out and creating a bunch of frizz. What the heck? She also styled huge chunks of my hair at a time, which made it so they didn't dry fully before she moved on to the next section. More frizz. Once my hair was dry she used a small barrel curling wand to create tight curls starting at my roots-- the exact opposite of what I had requested. The final result was tight, awkward curls on one side of my head with slightly larger curls on the other. My hair is frizzy on top, and my bangs are flat on one side and wavy on the other. It's a hot mess. I would have asked my stylist to fix it but I wasn't convinced she had the skill to do so, so I just re-did it myself at home. The only reason this review isn't one star is because the mudslide treatment I got seems to have made my hair softer, so that was positive. Overall a waste of money. I was lucky enough to get put in last minute for a blow dry last night after work. Nina did my hair and she was amazing! I don't typically go to chain salons because my original hairstylist is amazing but I needed a blow dry last minute, and I had a gift certificate. The price was a little steep for me but you get what you pay for because the salon is definitely a more high end experience. So why not treat myself? The staff were friendly and cute. Nina was very attentive and asked how I liked my hair washed and how I wanted to blow it out. She also let me mix two different look book styles as well. Been a regular at this location; but the manager (who you have the pleasure of seeing most visits) is an absolute nightmare. She definitely hates her job, but is also the type to talks down to everyone who walks through the door. I generally love the stylists and out of about 20 blowouts this year I have only had two bad blowouts. I did follow up on these (sending photos) and was given a complimentary blowout, through emailing the buttercup address and many, many calls to customer service. However after the legwork and the sub par blowout, the manager will refuse any compensation for cited past terrible experience -regardless of the time spent and evidence sent and treat you like an absolute criminal even when it is in your profile. I asked what further steps I could take to clear this up and she told me I could call the number on the website but that she has her own personal contact and she can only discuss this with her? Interesting. At one point the woman on the phone with me (Drybar number) asked me to pass the phone to the shop manager and said she could clear it up and tell her the notes in my profile but Laura refused to speak to her and said she won't speak to someone through the 1-800 number (which is where I was directed). Outside of this particular experience the manager has always been extremely rude to everyone to walks in, and I'm shocked she's the front of shop. (Not a junk food person), sip on some wine or mimosas (don't drink and allergic to citrus), and watch a movie, live stream, play on your phone, do whatever until your blowout is complete. My favorite is to watch whatever movie is playing since I didn't grow up watching american classics such as Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, Miracle on 34th St, Selena, Pretty Woman, etc. In no time, your blowout and heat styling is complete and you are free to leave! to be honest sometimes I wish it took longer because I am so absorbed in the movie. I visited Drybar at 3:30 pm on the hottest day of the year so far (well into the 90's) and had an event at 8 pm. I went for the cosmo-tai and my curls / blow out stayed for the whole night! My hair felt super soft and clean yet the curls were able to hold up. My stylist was named Rosie and she was so kind and helped me pick the best style for my needs that night. First I waited over a half hour from my original appointment time. The blow out itself was uncomfortable - not sure what brush my stylist was using but my head hurts afterward. Also asked for minimal hairspray and there is so much product in my hair right now I can barely get my fingers to comb through. Going straight home to wash it out. I think it probably depends who you get for service. The person who did my daughter's hair was very rough, pulled a lot, then didn't even walk her up to the front like I saw other stylists do. She had her hair straightened, but had flyaways all over the place. No product used to tame them down, no hair spray. Just dried and did a quick straightening, then shoo'd her away. I watched other stylists offer beverages, but not this one. My daughter said she never even spoke to her beyond asking how she wanted her hair done. The person at the front was not particularly welcoming, so that was a bummer too. I stood there and he did his best to pretend I wasn't there at all. It was an unpleasant experience all around. I'm a big fan of DryBar. I've been to 4 locations all over the city because I know I can usually get a decent blowout when I need one. However, this always depends on the stylist and their skill level. I've had a handful of GREAT blowouts, and a lot of OK ones from this location. Lately, I've been including comments when booking my appointment about my thick, long and very curly hair - and my hope to get a smooth blow out - not volume, not tight curls, just smooth - simple right? Unfortunately, I keep getting seated with stylists that don't really know how to work with my type of hair. 1. You should not have to use a curling iron or a flat iron for a proper "Cosmo". It will last way longer and look way more natural. It is VERY rare to get a stylist that can actually do this. 2. You do not need to use massive amounts of product. I'm usually ok with a little, but my stylist today used 3 different things on my hair before even beginning. Then loaded my hair up with some more at the end. 3. Simply twisting my hair with your hand will not make a curl that will hold. 4. Continually patting down my hair with your greasy palms is not going to make the poofiness that you made from your sub-par blow out go away, OR make that rough texture smooth. Plus you just shortened the lifespan of my blowout by half. I totally understand that it all depends on the individual stylist. And normally I wouldn't care because I would go home and fix it myself. But by no means is this the kind of blow out that I would be comfortable to go out with straight from the salon. I actually tied it into a ponytail when I left, and braided it later. I now have to go straight the airport from work so this will most likely get washed out either tonight or tomorrow. All I would ask is that whoever is deciding which stylists get which clients - please read the comments included with the booking and assign the stylists based on an honest reflection of their skill level. read more

A girl can really get addicted to Drybar! This location is my go to place after a long stressful day at work. The result is silky, bouncy, flowy hair. And might I add it will smell great too! Booking an appointment is super easy: you can do it online or even through their app. They're open late during the week which makes it super convenient to go after work. DryBar is super cute, with white and yellow décor all over, giving you a mellow vibe. The whole staff is extremely courteous. As soon as I arrive, I am instantly greeted by the receptionist. The stylists know what they're doing. The worst thing is when you ask someone to have your hair done a particular way, and they don't. My hair is long, thick, voluminous, and curly and not everyone knows how to blow dry it correctly. I've been here a couple of times and I haven't been disappointed yet. $40 for a blowout for my hair in NYC is almost impossible. And the last time I was at DryBar, the stylist even told me I have that Victoria's Secret hair (wishful thinking)! Anyways, I definitely recommend this location for a fabulous blowout. read more

I'm giving this place in extra star for the environment. it's just overall a very clean, cute place and I actually decorated my kitchen based on the yellow and white theme. They are very nice and accepted four walk ins. I think it's really cute how they named hairstyles after drinks. I think everyone wants curls and waves together for the most part. I love how they offer you a complementary drink as you're waiting which includes alcohol! I personally did not like the way my hair was done and it definitely did not stay either. I don't think my guy really listened to what I wanted and it looked worse than something I could've done. Overall, this is a very nice treat if you need a wash and quick style. I wasn't sure if the stylist would be able to handle my texture and extensions but she did a great job. My stylist Denise washed, blow dried, curled and flat iron my hair all for $40!!!! I've been to plenty of Drybar locations, but this location was my first bad experience. Not only was I taken 25 minutes late, but my stylist talked on her cell phone the entire time requiring her to ask me the same questions over and over again. Most importantly, I asked for my hair to be as curly as possible because my event was later in the evening .. by my pictures (taken less than 1 hour after appt) you can tell I received the complete opposite. She did offer to fix it, but due to the lateness of my appt and overall experience, I would rather do it myself. I recommend trying a different location. read more

Oh my god, I don't know why I haven't come here sooner!!! I have had natural hair for the last 4 years, and have always thought that drybar wouldn't know how to handle my curls. I have a date tonight, and booked an appointment on a whim, just hoping I didn't come out looking like a chia pet. Everything about my experience was amazing, I showed up 10 minutes early and the woman at the desk greeted me with a smile and my stylist Mariella took me back right away! Let me tell you, that woman is AMAZING. She washed my hair twice, and then blew my hair out in 30 minutes. 30 MINUTES!!!!!!! the last 30, she straightened and styled it, and I was out by 10:05. WHAT?!? Words cannot express how happy I am to have found a place that knows how to do my hair, AND that values time and a fun environment... I feel like I've spent YEARS waiting for stylists who run late, are unprofessional and overuse heat on my hair. I can honestly say I'll be traveling from Harlem every Saturday for this amazing treatment! read more

Great blow out, HORRIBLE FRONT DESK SERVICE. The woman who blew out my hair did a great job. My star is for her. Front desk gets ZERO STARS. I kindly asked for a tissue while I was waiting for my appointment and the woman responds with an attitude... FD- "What do you mean a tissue?" Me- "Like for my nose..." FD- "Like toilet tissue??" Me- "Sure! Or maybe a Kleenex!" FD- (side eyes to the thick printed napkins used for cookies.) My stylist had to ask twice to have coffee brought to me , which is fine, I don't mind waiting while busy, but the same front desk woman brings it completely spilling over in a dirty cup. Im not above a messy mug (I drank it!) but it says a lot about the overall costumer service and experience to have a staff willing to serve clients this way. It's sloppy! (I'm not normally a complainer. Check my other reviews.) Good luck! Ps. Go to Brookfield Place! Such better service! read more
