I love this spot conceptually--it is in a great location, spacious, and with a great concept and vibe--who doesn't love a Biergarten? It is decently executed and I want to also love it in practice. But it is a tad frustrating spot to visit--sure the frisson of a beer in a giant stein in fun, but the selection is limited and the prices kind of insane, even given the size of the pour. The food is also a bit disappointing--fine on its own but, again--given the price and the disappointing size of the platters, a bit disappointing. Service also kind of runs painfully slow at times. I mean, everything here seems up my alley--I love this neighborhood, I love German food and I adore a good Biergarten--and yet I always leave here a tad underwhelmed, feeling as if I had been charged for an extra round of drinks, and just generally wishing a more interesting establishment was in this prime spot.

We've always had a lovely time doing meetups here with different walks of life. Close to major transit lines (C train and the Barclays/Atlantic Ave stops). The Bavarian pretzel is great, the spaetzel mac and cheese sounds better in theory than in reality though. Their strudel is the stuff of dreams, and apparently the ice cream is home made in-house? Score!

This spot & Radegast Beer Hall are my top spots in NYC for traditional German-style "pils". Only - Radegast pretty much always has the same taps, & here & DSK, they are rotating, so you get to try different & obscure ones that are unlikely to be available anywhere else in the city. AND - they are very fresh, & all have their own special glasses. For this alone - an easy 5 stars. If they were open for lunch, I wld be here much more often, but they don't open until 3pm during the week. The food is VERY traditional German style - which means it's not good lol. Brown sauce w no flavor. It really does taste like food in Germany tho - they are nailing it (!). There are tons of good places to eat around here tho, so I wld just enjoy their incredible & amazing rotating traditional German tap selections & maybe a pretzel, & then eat somewhere close by. Very friendly, helpful, & courteous staff. Also - the music cld be better - no one at mid-day wants to hear house music !

DSK is a great go to for Pretzels and Beers. The sister restaurant to our local Hasenstuble, DSK is much bigger. They have a full draft selection, sausages for carnivores and vegans alike. The vibes are good, and it's a great place for groups. The bar is well-lit and there is a foosball table. Seating is mostly picnic tables and some window seats. Our toddler loves it and can slip under the radar as it's pretty lively inside.

1/1 Ambience; 1.5/2 Food; 1/1 Service; 0.5/1 Value The restaurant is nice and spacious and has a fun atmosphere for hanging out with friends and grabbing drinks. The offerings are traditional German foods and beers, although the menu is extensive with many non-alcoholic offerings. The service was very fast and efficient. We were famished and ended up ordering a ton of food: the pretzel with obadza, the spaetzle, the kartoffelsalat, fries, various wurst with cabbage and sauerkraut, and German soft drinks. The pretzel and obadza was the standout, and everything was mostly great. I opted for the vegan smoked apple and sage wurst, but it was a bit bland. My friends got the classic bratwurst and they really enjoyed theirs. Given the portion sizes, some items run on the pricier side. However, we absolutely devoured the food and ended up in a food coma, which probably suggests it's worth returning to.

Food is standard but fun, in a German fusion sense. But there's no getting around the occasionally abysmal service. It seems to depend on who is managing, like tonight. Decor is German beerhall-ish and adds to the atmosphere. Excellent German beer selection, which is a shame because I'm giving up on ever being waited on tonight.

Really solid neighborhood joint. I first heard of this place featured from an episode on Eater with…read moreGeorge Motz saying he loved coming here, funny enough the day I went, which was 1/24/26, George was eating dinner at the bar. It's a cute place, nothing fancy but a place you really can come hang out any day of the week. If I lived in the area I could see my myself ending up here any day of the week. I guess that's why when I went with fellow Yelper Sara L she said she has gone many times and wanted to take me since she knew I would enjoy it. The food: Gebackene Champignons- Fried Mushrooms- OK to preface they are kinda plain and boring the first few pieces. But the more I ate it the more I was like wow, these are actually good and kinda addictive. I enjoyed these and I enjoyed they gave a nice big portion. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA&select=wXMnSOv4x6gNG-gHh3t40Q Potato Latkes- These were on the specials page and they were good, nice crunchy and fried well but these were mixed with something since the taste was a bit different and the color wasn't that nice golden brown color you associate with latkes. Goulash- This was a dish George had and honestly, they were amazing. Highly recommend. I thought the flavor but more importantly the texture was amazing. A lot of times when you have slow cooked beef, they could sometimes get stringy and chewy, no not here. Also the spätzle was a really great pairing. Mussels- These were some fat ass mussels. The flavor of them was good, the night I went they were spicyyyyyyy. This was a well made dish and i appreciate their creativeity but I do prefer a simple garlic shallot butter and white wine where I want to drink the broth afterwards. The broth on this was too spicy too drink. Roasted Boneless Pork Chop- Pork chops are always a gamble and the one here was just OK. The sauce it came in was nice, kind on the heavy side but a delcious cream sauce. The pork was cut super thin and unfortunely they came out dry and chewy. The fries were a nice shoestring fry which were nice and crunchy. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA&select=14_-Katrn9Glu-wA65-CHg

Go here in person, order for take out or delivery, you can't go wrong. They even have brunch on the weekends. Full bar too! Their food is made with love that you can taste in every bite. Portions are generous. Large pretzel with 2 dips is great for sharing. Same with the delicious fried mushrooms, ask for extra sauce since it's that good. The brunch spatzel with scrambled eggs and bacon was large enough that it lasted me for 3 meals. Prices are very reasonable.

I had a group dinner here for my parents and my boyfriend's mother to meet for the first time. This is perhaps not the perfect location for this type of thing, as it was extremely loud in the restaurant. Despite being very busy, the hostess made sure we had a comfortable table to sit at and were not too cramped. As expected, the beer selection is great and I enjoyed my Berliner Weisse very much. I ordered the goulash and kasespaetzle. The goulash was rich, well seasoned and filling. The spaetzle was soft and creamy, covered in lots of flavorful aged cheese with salty bacon bits and sweet onion. A very rich dish. Although I didn't technically order an entree, I still found myself pleasantly full at the end of the meal. The rest of my dining companions ordered either the schnitzel or the wurstplatte. All seemed very pleased with their food, and some even had leftovers to bring home due to large portions. This restaurant is certainly a fun spot to come, reservations recommended. There's a reason they've been open for so long.

I wasn't in the mood to beg for drink service and I was also at "hangry" levels. Left out of there and I walked into Black Forest Brooklyn. Best decision I had made all day. It was cozy and dimly lit inside. The atmosphere was more like a pub than the usual loud, beer garden. They also had The Knicks game showing on the big screen at the bar but this place wasn't spilling over with people. I asked for a menu and decided on a burger of course! Out of pure greed, I requested a double. I did NOT need a double. My burger was sooo good. Patties were perfectly well done and the cheese was smooth and melted nicely. The sautéed onions added extra flavor and I really liked the shoestring fries. I'm more of a steak fries person but these were great! I asked the bartender to suggest a beer that had a Blue Moon quality since they don't actually serve that brand. She gave me a sample of something from the tap that was on point, so I went with a full glass. Whenever I'm craving the perfect burger and beer combo, Black Forest Brooklyn will be at the top of my list from now on.

I'm not vegan, but I like places I can enjoy with vegans. I had the not-for-vegans Cheddar Brat with Carmelized Onions and side of fries. The brat is on the small side but very flavorful and satisfying with the bretzel bun and stone ground mustard. The Carmelized onions were nice, but not neccessary for flavor. If I were to come back, I would just go for two brats on Bretzel buns and skip the side fries. The fries are natural cut, but likely frozen or double fried, which makes them taste more like oily starch than fried potato. The draft cider was cold and did well outside on the wood slat table with the help of the sturdy coaster.
