Since I had visited this location a few times over the years, I decided to stop in. I'm so glad I did. Kevin was standing near the front and greeted me right away with a big smile. He was incredibly helpful in helping me find exactly the type of shoes I had in mind. What I really appreciated was how friendly and professional he was. There was absolutely no pressure, just genuine help. My time is very limited, so great service like that really makes a difference. The lady who was working the evening of Dec 12, 2025 was so rude. And the worst part is she was rude when I was last in the store maybe 1-2 years ago! Your website is offering 25% off and when I mentioned it to her she misrepresented your company and said I had to be a VIP member. I was holding my phone up so she could see the QR code related to the offer and she was still saying I had to sign up to be a VIP member. I asked her where did she see that and she says "You don't see that big ole circle that says VIP?" I corrected her to let her know that was related to a free shipping offer on the DSW website. Hesitantly, she rang up my shoes and asked to see the QR code so she could finally scan it. Sure enough the shoes were an extra 25% off. The transaction is now complete and she just slides the shoes across the counter towards me. I had to ask her for a bag. I don't know if that is your store's protocol but it is rude! A customer shouldn't have to ask for a bag when buying an item like a pair of shoes. I can't believe that rude woman still works there and even more, I can't believe she's still rude! Going to the store felt like we wasted our time. There is lots of stock from different brands, but prices were high and online could buy cheaper than what you find. Maybe we went wrong time of the year which happens to be Thanksgiving week. They don't do any price match, they only match with their own website which is a joke. The store was clean and well organized. Certain sizes, like women's Size 7 and 7 1/2, seemed in short supply for a number of styles. What is notably missing are benches to sit down to try on shoes. I saw a number of older women struggling. Management needs to fix that. read more

DSW is the only place for a big selection of the women shoes. also hard to get sizes available,so for all this reasons - we made it to La Jolla. The service was Ok, not a lot of help on the floor, and the line to check out was a long one (with only one assosiate to ring it out). Another thing - not a lot of places to seat to try, for an older clientele - it's a problem. As far as value - it's a wide range of prices, currently not a lot was in white or beige color shoes, which what my boss was looking for. This DSW location has a decent selection and I can often find some good deals in their clearance section. I recently browsed with a friend in store and when I went online to look for Nikes, I found it really interesting that none of the in store stock was actually showing up online. The rest of the inventory is accurate online though. I recently ordered online for in store pickup and I was notified very quickly that my order was ready, however, when I actually went to pick it up, they had the shoes put aside, but didn't have my name on them or the order number. I had to describe the shoes and then they took my order number down. If I had done curbside pickup, I doubt they would have been able to find it. The person helping me was nice though (as is the rest of the staff). Returns are typically pretty easy here as well once you get to the front of the line. I will say that the line can be long as they usually just have one person working the register. Overall, this is a good location if you want to browse and try shoes on in person. This was the first and maybe only time I'll shop at dsw. I was looking for sneakers in a certain nude shade and google searches kept showing me options here. So I made the drive out. I liked the clean large well organized store. There were many options. I agree the store is dark and not enough benches. However I don't agree that the area is sketch. It's freaking La Jolla. Serious? I don't think they even have crime here lol. Customer service was top notch and I liked that they have a few other items besides shoes. Be prepared. I do not recommend this store and had a bad experience here. because of the customer service from a manager named Diana who was very rude and unhelpful, she damaged a pair of shoes with her nails after I paid for them. she actually ripped off half of one of the soles of the shoes. completely ripping the sole off half of the right boot. I will be returning the damaged shoes that Diana decided to rip up with her fingernails, after she was rude to me, because I didn't sign up for their rewards system. I went to pick up some shoes I ordered online. I have had a very mentally challenging few weeks after losing a friend and just wanted to pick up my shoes to bring to my work trip. I asked if it would be possible to try a half size bigger than what I ordered just to be sure I'd get the right size. She made it seem like I was completely inconveniencing her and she went on to say she would have to cancel my order and I would have to re-purchase the shoe. All I wanted to do was be sure I got the right size. What if the first shoe ended up being the right fit - why would she cancel it when I haven't even tried on the bigger comparison? I was so shocked w her attitude I just said "Forget it" and left. She clearly hates her job and had the worst attitude. Probably the worst dsw in the area... who had the bright idea of locking the back door? Well parking is a mess with plenty wasted in the back, and what about fire department regulations? It is a disaster waiting to happen. Employees are overly annoying, I had my service dog with me, probably had 3 employees approach and disturb the dog and me, even when I walked away, one of them raised her voice to try and get my attention, don't you guys realize maybe some of us just want to browse in peace and if I have questions I will ask? I was able to find 4 pairs of shoes of different styles that I loved. I only left with two. (Pats self on back for self-control.) Pros: ANDI. She was the fun, attentive customer-first cashier. Shoes. Why else are you here?! The variety is good, you have to be willing to look. (This is specific to women's shoes, I have rarely found anything great for men.) Price points are reasonable, especially in the clearance selection. Cons: Why is this store so dark?! Where are the benches? Where are the "peds" so I can try on sandals in a sanitary manner? It had been so long since I have been to DSW and I did not expect to find so many pairs of shoes that I love!! The pair that I purchased were black pumps that are actually the DSW Brand (Kelly & Katy). It's a little deceiving in my option, I think they should say something or have some logo or something but either way, they were very comfy. There were things that happened that would make me question coming back: It was pretty warm in the store. I was there about an hour before closing so they may have turned off the air knowing they would be closing up soon but I was literally sweating in there. The price of my sister's shoes rang up higher at the register than what we saw on the sign. We told her the big sign had a different price and for a minute the girl pushed back and then sort of scoffed because she had to walk over there to look at the sign as if it was an inconvenience. My sister was correct and they gave her the price listed but were sure to tell us that was the wrong price. They were trying to close up, so it seemed to me that the lady felt inconvenienced by having to leave the station or ring you up. It was a little uncomfortable for us but I am glad my sister stuck to her guns and made her go verify. She lightened up towards us at the end of the transaction. As we were leaving with my sister's purchase, I decided to run back and get the pumps. It was just minutes after she helped my sister. There was no one else in line, and she had a big pile of stuff behind the counter that she was working on (I assume for close prep). She let me stand there for 2-3 minutes without any acknowledgment at all, her eyes were just down at what she was working on. Then she very slowly came to the register to check me out still not looking me in the eye. I tried to be extra pleasant since she seemed so miserable and she did light up a little from our bubbly energy. We had an associate ring us up that was pretty rude.. or had very crude humor. We had an issue where the advertised price and registered price was different. Her body language and tone were extremely off putting. When we told her it was a different price she said "well you got to show me where that is" with a very annoyed face. It just made it seemed like not only she did not trust us, but as if we were trying to scam the store or something. So we walked to where it was advertised and was about to bring the price marker when she yelled at us to leave it as it is. She walks over and says "well damn, it is the wrong price!"
