I have a 2008 VW Eos - lots of miles and regular maintenance. I'd been using a general family mechanic for years, but felt it was time to give the car the service and attention deserved. I had a number of options in Albuquerque and I chose Dub Motorworks. My little car had a number of problems - lots of leaks - coolant leaks, oil leaks - the list was long. I loved how Tom and the team were able to prioritize what had to be done. The biggest challenge was securing the right parts, which they were able to do. Under the current challenges in trade with other countries, it was no wonder. After getting the car back, there was an oil leak, due to a faulty part. The team hussled and was able to get me back in great shape in no time. What I like about Dub - the team. They work well together. They're excellent communicators. Steven last worked on replacing the faulty part and he was great. Kudos to Gary for having a well qualified team that understands customer service. I have a tuned 2017 VW Golf with IS20 turbo. My turbo stopped building boost. I had a suspicion that the wastegate actuator needed to be replaced. I had a spare and called around to a few different places. Dub was the only place that would work with owner supplied parts or aftermarket parts. They quickly diagnosed the problem (which indeed was a failed wastegate actuator) and replaced with the one I provided. I also had Dub install an aftermarket intercooler and charge pipes while my car was there. Overall I was very happy with my experience despite what others on Yelp have said. Gary, who was my point of contact was very nice and very knowledgeable. Hours of labor was on par of what I was expecting. 4.5 hours for intercooler and charge pipe install. 2 hours for diagnosing turbo issue, install of wastegate, and adaptation. Labor prices was reasonable. I dropped off my car first thing Monday morning and had it back by noon on Wednesday despite them not having any power to the shop on Monday when I dropped off my car. I would go back again if my Golf ever needed more work done. read more

Absolutely wonderful maintenance shop. These are true car people who care about the functionality of your car 100%. Great service for a very reasonable price considering their quality and care. Their shop is cleaner than a majority of mechanic bays I've been in, that should tell you a lot. Gary is very trustworthy and has never given me any reason to question this. I had a full exhaust kit installed here and it was installed very nicely without any problems stemming from laziness, complacency, or neglect. Again, they really do care. I have too many issues to list after many problems and the flat out refusal by the owner to fix or replace items that broke or almost fell off due to improper installation. If it wasn't because I wanted to keep the tuning software only found here unfortunately I would have stopped coming here along time ago. We Brought in our tiguan and one question was should we fix it or sell it? It needed a lot of work. New quieter muffler, one coilover failed at the sway bar end link. The coilovers lowered the car to where the tires rubbed the wheel wells and the front tires lasted 6 months. It had an oil and antifreeze leak. The AC is not operating. Gary diagnosed the need for an intake manifold by a code on his computer. He said all the warning lights would be off. Gary was very confident he could repair it, gave us a price and it would be ready in a week. We live 3 hours away and having a pickup time was important. Gary proclaimed it would be ready after 5 days after the initial date. We drove 3 hours and had to wait two additional days. The new muffler was not quiet at all. The entire tail pipe fell off the car a month later. His response was all they did was replace the muffler and did not touch anything else. It was not attached with a v clamp which should have been obvious since it was next to the muffler. The warning lights were still on and he was puzzled that the manifold replacement had not taken care of it. He said it may be the tune. The oil still leaked. The drain plug gasket had not been replaced. The AC was not fixed. We thought he was replacing the splash guard because he talked up the one that he uses. When picking up the car he said he thought we needed a new engine soon. A bit late. My summary is Gary is charismatic and can communicate his knowledge about vehicles. He talks a lot describes that needs to be done but does not do it. He falls short on quality work and estimating the time it takes. He did not stand behind any of the repairs he made. He did not even offer to look at it. He offers many reasons for not getting work done. read more

Worst place to ever go to in Albuquerque. the owner Matt agreed to work payment options with me to service a forward arm control repair. He quoted me 3 different prices everytime and when it came to a down payment for a part he stated it would be $400. I brought $400 into the shop in September for the part to be ordered and was told a call would be made to me when the part arrived. However no call was never made to me to service my vehicle. Mind you the total amount for the service came out to $1400. I went in early November to give the remaining amount of $1000 and to set an appointment he was suppose to contact me about, which never happened and had a gut feeling something was off due to the miscommunication. So I got my $1000 back and asked for my $400 cash I took in September and he than told me he would contact me when he has the $400. The owner Matt never called me and this has been 4 months and still no answer. As a business owner you would think he would accommodate his customers needs. Don't waste your time on this place lol he ripped me off. 0 stars for this place. read more

Please read fully. I took my TDI here for warranty work back in November after my water pump started leaking after they installed it. I got a call to pick it up and when I got there it would not start in their parking lot. Had to leave it there and wait for them to "fix it". Finally got it running and went to pick it up. It then had issues with cold starts. Took it back to them and they said glow plugs. I replaced them and had no improvement. Took my car back to them again and they then said the issue was either the injection pump or lift pump (which my car does not have from the factory). I knew neither one of these was a correct diagnosis nor would they properly diagnose it without me paying them more. I smartened up and finally took my very rough running car too University VW. VW was able to diagnosis it and fix it within 3 hours, unlike the weeks I was without my car since it was sitting at dubs. Sure enough it was timing related and crossed vacuum hoses, both of which dubs touched when working on my car. VW charged me $445. I went to Gary believing I should be reimbursed for this. He then goes on explaining to me how VW will put things down they didn't do and only wanted to cover $275 of it, a little over 60%. Mind you my car sat at his shop for WEEKS and they could not figure it out. He then goes on to explain to me how I should have told him I was taking my car elsewhere, but why would I take his advice when his shop couldn't properly work on my car. Overall, I am still out the full $445 since I would not sign Gary's handwritten attempt of a non-disclosure and keeping me from pursuing this further along with his insulting offer of only $275. I wish I would have paid more attention to the bad reviews this shop has. I just got my car back running correct on February 17th. read more

AWESOME GUYS! Was driving cross country had a power steering light come on and lost power steering. Every dealer and mechanic in town was booked till the following week. I had to get on the road. Gary the owner when we pulled up didn't even hesitate to offer help and get the car on his scanner. WHILE HAVING A PACKED GARAGE AND PLENTY OF WORK AHEAD OF ME! You can tell he is in demand and a secret by the many customers who came by. He checked the codes and even jacked up the car to get under it and check the steering. He noticed a exhaust bracket broken and fixed while he was under there. Thankfully it was just an overheated power steering system from the hot outside temps and the long trip. He took the time with his team mate in the shop to point out some things to look into for improved performance and fuel efficiency. I would highly recommend these guys for other VW owners. read more

This may be long but you should read in my opinion a fair review. For a quick recommendation try anytime auto. Brought my 2016 Audi A3 to dub, the pricing was attractive compared to the competiton and dub is one of the few reputable shops that 'specialize' in German cars. But eventually you will be paying what you save if you trust Gary to treat you fairly on your vehicle. First service done was front control arms and strut mounts, my naive self did not know any better and took his word for it. In reality maybe only needed strut mounts however he profits not only on labor but also parts. I say strut mounts may only be needed because a month or so after said labor was done I heard the same clunking noise that I paid to be fixed return. Head back to dub for a warranty and the owner Gary along with one of his Mechanic's Matt tell me it's a bushing. A sway bar bushing, again naive me was put to rest when the professionals told me I was wrong. Took it to another shop as it was more and more apparent the issue wasn't going away after they told me it was the strut mount (the part dub replaced). I go in for a warranty and it takes one of his workers (only guy I trust at his shop) to point it out directly, to Gary to warranty after several weeks of back and forth visits. He also inserted a 'torque arm insert' that resolved one issue but brought increased NVH (Noise/Vibration/Harshness) to my car. A couple months later I buy a turbo that was unfortunately stolen and the shop attempts to help me get it back... This is the one act I am grateful for from them and the reason I gave them the second chance after being lied to by Gary and Matt about the strut mount's premature failure being a sway bar bushing. In retrospect it was another shop where I took my car too first that contacted me about my stolen turbo and if I recall correctly dub did not contact me but was also aware... I could be wrong about this. Dub however was the shop that helped me set up operation turbo redemption however, was it because I made contact and knew the sellers were trying to flip the turbo and dub couldn't buy at a discount or take the turbo back do the same or worse uncharge me because I knew now? Or was it because they actually wanted to go above and beyond to help their customers as Gary says he like to treat people like family. Operation Turbo redemption was a fail but I felt like people were wrong about dub. Fast forward a couple months and my cylinder head needs to be replaced. I put a $700+ deposit for parts, the parts get delayed Gary informs me for various reasons but he miraculously finds me another head with less miles salvaged from an accident of a similar Audi he says. Come to note the part arrived a day early and I receive the part as if it were delivered to me receipt and all... Receipt reads less than $400 for this head he claimed to have talked down to match my deposit. I Called him out in the future. I showed him the receipt without saying anything else and he starts one of his never ending babbles. The cat is out of the bag he flipped $200+ on me and wasted my time (work was pushed back several weeks) I am furious cuz I still owe him labor. Labor gets started later than he claimed from the beginning due to the parts fiasco. After having the part inspected by a machine shop which should be done for this job but I was not informed by dub to do so, instead anytime auto and various shops told me that is the best way to save yourself future headaches. Matt did however help me prepare the head for inspection. Dub gets the cylinder head work done later than expected as the timing was done wrong by 'one tooth' Gary claimed. A deadline pushed back a week and the car is still broken. Gary miraculously missed issues as he was either 1) greedy to upsell me parts and labor replacing parts that won't fix my car until the list is complete 2) incompetent in his ability to properly diagnose a car or 3) a combination of both. Car entered with codes regarding cylinder 4 misfire and leaves with cylinder 4 still misfiring, transmission issue, and "a bad injector" Gary replaces and tries to charge me for although I did not authorize for him to do so.I tell him he can have his injector back but he didn't want it. My right rocker panel had been bent and the adhesive to the car peeled and the rocker panel was hanging partially off. I ask him to fix it as his lift caused the issue which I noted a few days earlier in which he ensured me it would go back to normal. He tries one day towards closing but was unsuccessful and may have scratched my paint doing so. Next day he tries again and calls me a dumb@$$ as he is unaware I am in the shop whilst he was on the phone with his wife. I am sure of this as he had a deer in headlights look. Also he did try blaming this panel's deformity on his tow 'hookup'. If your car is left out back behind his shop, it is not protected by his shop insurance it falls on you the customer for responsibility read more

Gary is not trustworthy. The mechanic work on my vehicle was terrible, I am going to have to take my vehicle to another mechanic to address the original problems and additional problems caused by the mechanics at DUB. Gary charged me for clutch parts that were subpar and were not the right application for my vehicle. I went ahead and paid for the right parts from a reputable parts supplier and gave them to Gary to have installed so they could warranty their work. I asked for the clutch parts that they originally installed, but they said that they threw them away. I told Gary expressly that I wanted those parts that he charged me for. They denied me that. I also made sure that Gary knew that they needed to do the warranty work at no charge to me. When I picked up the vehicle the manager (Matt) tried to charge me for the work. I let him know that I spoke with Gary and that this work was warranty service work that was guaranteed. I had to explain this to the manager. All this occurred in addition to many nuts and bolts missing and parts not fastened correctly or securely. I had to go over the work with a fine-tooth comb replacing nuts and bolts, namely the main transmission bolts that attach the tranny to the frame. read more

Here is my review of Dub Motorwerks located In Albuquerque, NM. I own an Audi S3 and based on others in the car community, in good faith I decided to take my car to them. Gary the owner appeared charismatic and seemed to want "what's best" for the vehicle owners. However, based on my experience it's far from that. He wants what's best that lines his pockets and it's far from what's in the best interest of the customer.In December, I had them warranty an issue with the turbo. They installed a new down pipe and dropped the subframe. In the process they broke a connector that engages the Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) or Magnetic Ride. Also in this same instant had to return back to the shop three times because the mechanic Matt decided doing the job completely was too much by not tightening the sway bar. On another occasion Matt didn't tighten a clamp that went on the the intercooler and ended up popping off causing all boost loss. There were other half ass tuning issues as well. Then came to having my transfer case warrantied. Again, I gave Gary and Dub the benefit of the doubt. Due to having aftermarket parts that were pointed out to the inspector, the warranty was voided. $2,400 dollars was spent on a newer transfer case and at the same time Gary claimed he had a quality painter to fix an issue with my bumper from a lady rear ending me. First the bumper: the insurance paid out to have it removed from the car and fixed properly. That was not the case. The bumper was repaired but was never removed from the car, and there are blemishes and runs in the paint. At the same time Gary was paid to have a turbo blanket put on my car. Turbo blanket was installed upside down and a new one was ordered afterwards due to ripping from improperly installed. Gary was asked about this several times, in-person, via text, and phone calls. I was not happy with the job at all. I was then texted and threatened with going to the National Guard and also having a mechanic lien placed on my car if I did not pay. So out of fear of this I paid Gary the amount agreed for the poorly fixed bumper. Three days later after being extorted for $400 dollars, I took my car to a more reputable shop to have an A/C compressor installed. I was called by the shop and informed that Dub Motorwerks installed a faulty (cracked) transfer case. Based on the messages that were exchanged by Gary, they knew it was damaged and still installed it. The transfer case either had JB WELD or RTV to cover up the crack or issue in general. I wanted the shop my car was at to warranty it, but due to Gary being the manipulative person he is, made it to where I was forced to take it back to Dub. The parts place that has the warranty couldn't honor the warranty if it was found out the damage occurred after receiving it from them. It took threatening legal action to remedy the situation. Based on my experience with Dub Motorwerks, I would strongly recommend going else where or double checking their work to ensure it was done correctly. read more

I had Dubmotorwerks completely re-condition my VW rabbit after the diesel engine quit running. I sourced a VW Jetta for the gasoline engine. Gary helped me formulate a plan and parts list to build my rabbit into a fun fast street machine. He removed the gas engine and completely rebuilt it. His attention to detail is amazing and he coordinated with the machine shop to have all reused parts refurbished. He is very knowledgeable about VW and Audi and knows their little nuances and quirks. He installed the engine in my truck and completely set everything up for the new engine and converted it from diesel to gasoline. This is the only place I will take my VW and Audi. From oil changes to full engine rebuilds this is definitely a one stop shop! read more
