Been a long time ktown attendee living in NYC. From chicken pubs, fruit soju bars, and delicacy eats at the Gopchang Story across the street. Dubu Haus is unique where it's not just another Korean restaurant offering standard eats - but a more elevated and elegant version of their dishes. First starting with the palette cleanser, their house made soy milk shot drink. Refreshing and you can just taste their freshly squeezed soybeans into this beverage. Was already intrigued and it peaked my interest of other unique dishes to come. Garden fried dubu jeon- each tofu was uniformly cut at the same portion but was different colors. Orange, pink and green fried tofu surprised me as I've always been used to regular yellow fried tofu. Kale, beet and pumpkin tofu was interesting and I enjoyed flavors these brought together with the tofu. 12 hour braised beef ribs - the name speaks for itself and it was rich, brimming with gravy, steaming hot and rips off the bones so easily and you can enjoy that lingering sweetness that's part of the braising process extracted from the bone marrow. Came in a stone pot to retain that hearty taste and this was so much fun to eat. Dessert was the injeolmi soft serve ice cream. Taking a rice cake powdered dessert and transforming it into ice cream got my curiosity and if it could retain that taste. Aside from a doughy rice cake, the taste did convert into an ice cream. It wasn't a vanilla soft serve powdered with the injeolmi sprinkling but the soft serve had a taste of the rice cake too blended in. Carefully the taste inspection on this was thorough and it was accomplished well by the restaurant. A very popular place and higher end Korean style cuisine. Service was prompt and attentive down to making sure we were aware of our reserved time. Strictly we followed our reservation time because the restaurant had more guests coming in, even for a Monday. Came here for restaurant week and I'm glad I did! For the prix fixe menu, I got the spicy marinated pork with white rice, dwenjang tofu soup, and dubu ice cream (not pictured). The ice cream might've been my favorite part of the meal. With everything included, the portion was large for $30 and I was able to take some home. My friend had the galbi and that was also good. Came here on a Saturday evening with a group, and we all thoroughly enjoyed the experience, ambiance, and food! The staff starts all of us off with complimentary house made soy milk & banchan. The food is really good, however, the service is not. Additionally, if you are vegetarian, avoid this restaurant. To bring up the biggest issue, we had a vegetarian in our party who ordered the veggie soondubu (stew). It even has the symbol next to it on the menu stating that it is vegetarian. Two hour horror, halfway through the meal, the vegetarian found an entire squid in their pot. This is absolutely abhorrent, and the restaurant has not wanted to provide a refund for such a major mistake. The other really bad part is that weight staff expect you to clean up as you are eating. They had bus boys coming to our table and making us pass them all of our empty plates throughout our meal. Even as we were trying to enjoy ice cream at the end, they came by and just stared at us and kept telling us to hand them plates. I understand this restaurant wants to have a lot of turnover, but this makes the experience sour. On a positive note, the brisket stew is really tasty, I appreciate all the banchan they also give (kimchi is excellent but made with shrimp paste so be aware). I also really enjoy the ice cream that they give at the end. Sister restaurant to the amazing Howoo (a KBBQ spot), Dubu Haus offers some amazing Korean tofu dishes. While they do highlight their in-house made tofu by incorporating many soy ingredients throughout your dining experience (ie. their complimentary soy milk at the beginning and soy powder soft serve at the end), they also have some other amazing Korean dishes to offer. I thought the food was good, but there was nothing to call out for me. We got a dubu dish which was tasty, the potato pancake was okay and kind of bland, and the mandu was great. It is a big space though many of the tables are extremely close together, which kind of took away from the dining experience. Additionally, the service was standard at best. My friend and I got dinner here on a Tuesday night. We made a reservation but you can probably walk in and still get a table. Even though all the tables were packed, they turn them around very quickly. As soon as we sat down, they gave us shots of their signature soy milk. I love traditional soy milk and this was some of the best I ever had. It's not the Silk soy milk you add to your coffee; it's rich and thick and creamy and gritty. You really taste the soy beans in it. We ordered two of their tofu stews and they were surprisingly very different. The mushroom one was very thick (real stew-like) whereas the oyster one was more like a traditional seaweed soup with oyster and tofu. Both were delicious and I'm glad we tried both. We also got the Garden Fresh Dubu Jeon, which was pretty underwhelming because we expected the kale and beet flavors to be more prominent. Instead, this just tasted like pan-fried tofu. I wouldn't get this again. Lastly, another highlight of our meal was the free soft serve to finish everything off. It tasted more like vanilla soft serve with soybean powder than soy milk soft serve, but was so good. I wish I could've had more! I just found my new favorite tofu house in Ktown! Dubu Haus specializes in dishes made from housemade tofu which they make fresh every day at the restaurant. After being seated, we were served complimentary soymilk freshly made and was thicker than I expected. I loved this concept since soymilk is the beginning stage of tofu making. We were served a nice assortment of banchans which they rotate so each time you come here, they will different. This was my first time seeing mushroom jelly. I asked for their most popular soondubu and it was the Prime Short Rib Soondubu and it did not disappoint. I also highly recommend ordering their 12-hour spicy braised prime short rib was so tender and flavorful. Don't let the size of the pot fool you, there was so much meat in here. For something light and refreshing, I also recommend trying their Perilla Oil Buckwheat Noodle with Bossam. We also had bossam as an appetizer. The pork belly is braised for 8 hours, thinly sliced and served with Napa cabbage, handmade Dubu, radish kimchi and are meant to all be wrapped together. At the end of the meal, everyone gets Dubu soft serve made of tofu, vanilla ice cream and bean powder and it was soo good! Not one for hyperbole, but Dubu Haus made one heck of a first impression where ever dish was a hit. The soft tofu stews are unique and distinct - with the Perilla Seed Mushroom option hitting the spot. Hearty and delicious, yet never making you feel too stuffed! The Meat Patty Jeon was flavorful and airy, complemented perfectly by the chives. The only thing that was a bit excessive was the sweetness from the bulgogi and mushroom hotpot. The soup was almost undrinkable because of how sweet it was when compared to the perfectly flavored dishes, fresh bibimbap, and and tofu soups. But that one glitch did not mar the overall experience. This is for two different visits both lunch during the week. I was able to sit immediately and the service was good. The food was really amazing well seasoned with nice portions. Definitely my favorite tofu soup and the peach Makgeolli was delicious. Theres lots of seats and the dining area is very pretty. Theres a hallway of bathroom that are clean and have lovely smelling lotion and soap. When your sat they give a shot of soy milk which is smooth and lovely way to start the meal at the end they give you soy milk ice cream with misgaru powder and its nutty and sweet. The banchan you get is a nicr variety the dried seaweed is top notch I want to buy a container and eat it with rice. Both visits were wonderful and worth it. I had a delicious Korean delivery lunch from this fine restaurant. I ordered Seafood Soondubu, and the Marinated Short Rib Combo which came with Soybean Soondubu. Of course, it came with four nicely prepared types of banchan including bean sprouts, pumpkin, broccoli and another green vegetable something like kale or spinach. Also, included were two mildly spicy types of kimchi...cabbage and a root vegetable. Steak does not carry very well on a delivery order especially when it is arrives at room temperature but the meat was very tasty and soft...still quite delicious. As someone who really likes galbijjim, this is the dish I was most excited for, and I definitely enjoyed it! I also got the seafood soondubu as well and I was definitely able to taste the quality of the dish! Both entrees comes rice. I got both the white rice and the nutritious kettle pot rice. I've been wanting to try this place because they make their own tofu in house. The food portions are pretty big so I would recommend sharing a few things. The prime rib soondubu and the perilla mushroom soondubu were really rich and good. My favorite dish of the night was the spicy pork and Dubu kimchi! It has a nice charred taste. For an appetizer it was super filling. We also got the potato and ma jeon and it wasn't bad but it wasn't anything special either. The staff was really nice with a variety of people who checked in on us. The food came out really quickly too that we didn't have enough room on our table for two. The decor is really clean and bright and there were also sections for larger groups! They also give you ice cream at the end of the meal which was really nice and a good way to end the dining experience! read more

Located in the space that used to be the rather terrible Japanese-Korean buffet IchiUmi, Dubu Haus is, as the word dubu/두부 suggests, a place specializing in tofu. They have done a good job transforming that old giant buffet, doing such things as adding larger booths, putting in much brighter lights, and separating the downstairs into a place for fancy cocktails/Korean seafood called MUSAEK (would recommend their Jeju Fluke Hwe and Cantalope/Boricha drink.) This staff was friendly, though a bit slow occasionally, and the food quality was good, with it feeling in general like a healthier meal compared to many of the other Korean places. They gave us a shot of fresh soy milk/두유 to begin with, which was a fun touch with the drink being mildly creamy and quite healthy tasting. The banchan at the beginning was a bit more varied than the typical spot included yeolmu kimchi/열무김치/summer radish kimchi, seasoned peppers, diced radish/kkakdugi/깍두기, burdock with sesame, bean sprouts/namul, and a pancake/jeon, which I had some mixed vegetables and possibly tofu or potato as the base. They refilled the banchan when needed, with all of them having mild flavors with various textures such as crunchy and otherwise. We started with the Grilled Short Rib Patty, or Tteok-Galbi/떡갈비, for $26 with prime short rib, rice cake, soy, and garlic, which came with three large pieces. Adding said rice cakes was a fun spin and is a bit cheeky, as the name translates to rice cake ribs, with the dish normally not having any actual tteok inside. The rice cakes added a unique extra chew and texture, but didn't take away from the meatiness, with the dish otherwise being a little sweet and slightly salty. This was a good appetizer, and I would recommend this to share. As per most tables, most of our orders were the various Soondubu (or sundubu) Jjigae/순두부찌개/Tofu Stews, which were all piping hot and comforting, with all the stews coming with a pot of white rice (with it also being possible to upgrade to their nutritious rice for $3 more, which I would do next time, with the quality in general being better than BCD or Five Senses. The closest in flavor to BCD Tofu was the Kimchi & Pork Kongbiji/김치 돼지비지찌개 for $20 with soybean curd, pork belly, and kimchi. The pork inside was good, while the kimchi added a pleasant funk. The tofu inside had a wonderful texture, making this, in most ways, better than BCD's version. Somewhat similar was the Prime Short Rib Soondubu/갈비살 순두부찌개, priced at $21, which featured the short rib along with zucchini and onion. The dish had a good bit of heat to it, and the meat inside was quite tender, being more flavorful than the pork and more tender. The only thing missing, by comparison to the other dish, was the funk due to the lack of kimchi. I preferred this a bit, and this would have been my favorite if there had been kimchi in this, as the short rib was that much better. More on the comforting side was the Perilla Seed Mushroom Soondubu/들깨 버섯 순두부찌개 for $23 with various mushrooms (king oyster, wood ear, beech, and shiitake,) along with zucchini and napa. The perilla added both a nice flavor as well as a bit of fragrance, while the various mushrooms had a good mix of textures. This was also very tasty. They were out of the Maesangi Oyster Soondubu, so instead we got the Dried Pollock Soondubu/황태 순두부찌개 for $22, which also had radish and bean sprout along with the aforementioned fish. The soup was mild, by comparison to the others, making it taste a bit healthier, with only the slightly rehydrated pollack having a light fishiness and a unique texture. I would probably order this again on a day I'm not feeling as good, but otherwise, I preferred the other soups a bit more. They gave us some homemade soy ice cream at the end, which was a nice and tasty ending note. This was one of the more comforting meals I had in recent memory, and I would go back here to try more of the soondubu or order again some of my favorites. read more
