Just received an Instacart delivery from this location. Delivery was good-- but the cheeseburger was soggy, the chicken orzo soup should have been chicken rice--but what came was orzo with dried out chicken that was thick and gummy. I got no clam chowder, but I did get oyster crackers that were edible. The Sprite Zero was some type of unidentified brown cola with no fizz. The two curly berries were good, barely warm, but edible. I really enjoy this place. I have always found the food delicious no matter what location I have gone to. I have been to a few (Shelton, Monroe, Naugatuck and one more) when I find one of these places I make a mental note because I love their food. I have always found it delicious and affordable. I live in Waterbury CT now so the Naugatuk location is my closest one. I go there about twice a month and still have very much enjoyed it! I came for the hot dogs and left with confusion but let us tour this review all the same, Upon arrival, Duchess was both empty but clean. It is always good to see when the staff is keeping up with appearances of a restaurant for that is pride in the work place. I was greeted at the register and placed an order for 3 hot dogs....1 Plain, 1 with Chili and the 3rd with the works. Now after taking a bite of the plain dog with toasted bun action, this is what is supposed to set the stage for the other 2 but unfortunately, all of the stage hands decided NOT to come into work. If your base dog is questionable in flavor and lacking a full on snap, what am I to think of the other two? At least the toasted bun was soft, yet had a nice crisp to it and it did not taste as if it had been sitting around waiting for someone to show it love but more so, the bun was fresh for it talked back to me and I like that!! On to our chili option and I need to say that the chili was horrible, not just bad but a rancid flare that did not give up the fight at all. It seemed as if I swallowed bad ketchup, stale onions, old beans all mixed in dog food for human consumption and if you add that to an already questionable hot dog, we are left with what anger and breakups taste like if they were flavors but on to our final dog. The Works was your saving grace!! Sauerkraut held its own, with a nice sweet relish and mustard. That combination was the homer your hot dog needed in terms of flavor. Where do I start.. It took 10 minutes before anyone acknowledged us at the register. The wait time was incredibly way too long. Finally received our food 25 minutes after we walked in the door. Grew up on the Duchess restaurants down route 8. Specifically Shelton on Bridgeport Ave. Nothing like a fresh long dog with the works and an onion ring. Brings back memories and even though it does take a while to make, so be patient, it's worth it. Service is ok for the most part, but they do DO IT FRESH. So just remember when you're sitting...bring a book or something to pass the time. read more

Painfully slow. (Empty lot, nobody at drive thru) To their credit, my food was blistering hot once I got it, so at least it wasn't sitting under a heat lamp, so the wait is less annoying when the food is fresh. I was in a rush so coming here was a bad idea. Fast food this is not. For $5 I got a chicken caesar wrap from the drive thru. I was hoping for just something quick and that's not what I got. It took literally 10 minutes for a simple wrap. There was only one car in front of me and they didn't have a huge bag handed to them. To take so long for only one wrap is nuts, and they didn't even include any napkins in the bag. The wrap was poor too and kind of just sat in my stomach. The dressing was piled on and there was so little chicken and lettuce on it, it was basically like eating bread with dressing. I've had their burgers in the past and they're ok and while this place is a step above McDonald's, it's not a big step. The wait in the drive-thru is awful. I understand the food is cooked fresh but I waited over 20 minutes with only 2 cars in front of me before I got around. When I pulled up I still had to wait for my food to finish. I asked for French Vanilla hot coffee light and sweet..I was served some bland coffee, dark with no sugar. I get mistakes happen so I still returned the next day to order the same thing and they still couldn't get my coffee right. The girl at the drive-thru was rushing so much her responses were "here" "yup" "there ya go" and barely looked at me. I love Duchess. Everything is fresh and made to order. Their chicken nuggets are unlike anything you would get from McDonalds or Burger King. Their chicken salad is amazing! After I stopped going to other Duchess restaurant's, because of bad experiences. My boys talked me into stopping here for lunch. We all thought it was pretty good overall. Food has gotten really bad and cheap. Grew up with this restaurant in Bridgeport and loved it. For that reason I have gone back several times in the hopes that it will be better. It's not. The service is fine but the food is really low-quality. I just ordered two standard burgers and they were were ridiculously small about 1/8 of an inch thick maybe 2 to 2 1/2 inches across. Two hamburgers and a drink came to about $10.50. There is no sign of anything getting better with this place I would avoid it completely. read more
